Shimano wide isn´t wider, its just have more room on top. I had the same problem, with the ordinary 903 and bought the wide 903. I have meassured them and the sole and insole are exactly the same. I guess its for people with high wrist. I think its for saving money, they use the same sole, just add some to the fabric.
Sounds a bit strange that they can sell the Wide at the same width as the normal one, but I'll take your word for it! I don't have a non-wide to compare.
@@CyclespeedTours I dobbel-checked my shoes now, they are in 46. Both the regular and the wide meassured 89,9mm on the widest on the carbon sole. However the fabric protrude outside the carbon sole. For the regular I meassured 97mm for theregular and 99 mm for the wide. I will give them 2mm wider in the fabric for 46 wide, but that is kind of unsuported for your foot. Edit: My Specialized 8 in 45.5 meassure 94 mm on the carbon sole at the widest while 100.5 mm at the fabric, thats the regular one. But they have another shape in the toe-box.
Yes. Cost saving measure. Lake makes a wide shoe with a wide sole plate. If you have a E or EE foot it makes a big difference when you are climbing out of the saddle.
The Shimano road shoes I'd used for around 15 seasons finally gave out recently with the full carbon soles separating from the upper so I had to buy a new pair. I tried on several models at an LBS and really liked the Giro Regime so I bought it, but ended up returning it unused because the front was just too narrow and hurt my big metatarsal. I tried the next half size up but there was too much room in the toe box so this model just wasn't going to work for me, and they don't come in wide versions. I then tried several pairs of Shimano RC702s, a step down from the RC903/2 but quite similar. The 42 regular, which was what my previous Shimano's were, was just too tight all over, and the 42.5 regular was just a tad too loose, especially in the heel as I have wide forefeet and narrow heels. I then tried the 42 wide, and that finally fit nearly perfectly. I haven't yet ridden in them (I have yet another pair of road shoes that are just fine just not higher-end for use in the interim), but I think they're the ones. So, basically, I found that Shimano wide was definitely wider in the same size, at least for me in the RC702. Not a lot, but definitely noticeable. They're actually just a tiny bit too tight in certain places, but better that than too loose and I'm never going to find the perfect shoe at my budget.
hello yo use a wide shoes o normal shoes, i have a dude, I use the RC7 on the road, the version that does not have the shiny tip. But I have a question about buying the sphyre 903, these are the same width as the RC7 or are they narrower at the end of the foot (at the tip of the shoe more or less in the area of the metatarsals, where the foot is wider) It's because it's a more professional shoe, not if they are a little narrower (tighter than my RC7) and I should buy wide or if I buy normal ones like the RC7 that I have. I have never needed wide shoes
I have that same shoe after about 12 miles my right mid foot would go numb that went on for a while until I changed out the insoles with solestar ones like you said it’s a wide shoe not like they were snug like sidi shot ones
@@HULKBIGHEAD I checked out their website...expensive! Seems strange that their is no individual customisation given that everyone has a slightly different foot shape. Hard to believe that these are game changers, but happy to try!!

Not sure about RC7, but I didn't think I needed wide shoes either, but seems I do. I say go wide, because you can always tighten them with BOAs anyway. You cannot widen a narrow shoe though....
After i watch your review the rc903 seems pretty good for my riding style, Just wanna ask do i take the size 40 or size 41 wide? I have a 25 cm foot which in the shimano chart recommended the size 40 for 25.2cm but i don't know if they are very snug which can cause any hotspots. Or do i take the size 41 but been thinking if they have more space that makes my foot slide back and fort from pedaling. Thanks
Hey.great review.i wear almost exactly the same size with you. Could you do me a huge favor?measure the inner length of the rc903...i think i need a 41wide or the 41.5 regular and cant try them on.no store has these available around here. I would be grateful. Thanks in advance. Ps:the shimano size chart is way off.
@CyclespeedTours 26cm is the 42 on sidis. Shimano says their 42 is 26.5 (27.5 actually, measured by an expert)...so 24 I'd say is very unlikely.... I ll order anyway.
You clearly need wider shoes so why not go for something like the Lake cx332. They come in wide and extra wide and and have a last that is effectively wider instead of just more upoer.
@@user-cx2bk6pm2f ok, so typed too fast, I am well aware of how pedantic sounds and is written. But you prove my point because these shoes are quite clearly nothing to do with MTB. My channel is for road bikes and this is clearly a road shoe, that is immediately obvious.

Interesting that the insoles make so much difference. But the original ones are quite thick and have a big (changeable) arch support too.

My foot is 24.5cm long and I am good in the 41 wide, so I think 41 would be fine for you.
I was planning on getting the Shimano RC 903’s but now I’ve seen your review I’m wondering it if it’s wide enough for me
Thanks for the review
Possibly in larger sizes it's proportionally larger?
Why did You rig Ares? Probably more comfy shoes and offering best power transfer
Maybe I didn't give them long enough, but they gave me hot spots on the side of the foot.

Probably cause your cleats are too forward. This will make you push more on your toes.
This could be a factor. I have tried moving the cleats back a bit, but it feels quite strange to me.
There is an S works 8???
they don't call it that, but essentially that's what it is

I did have some Lakes a long time ago and they are comfy. Bu they have always been quite heavy shoes, so I would need to get my head around that.....!
Try Bonts or Nimbl. Shimano and Specialized run very narrow.
I have different experience, I buy Shimano by default now because with other brands I get cramp in foot.
"903" is not a model, it's nonsense. These are RC903.
