    If you think for one second your experience with that company was anywhere near ordinary you’re kidding yourself. They reached out to you. That’s the first thing regular people will never experience. They knew you had a channel that reaches thousands of people so they went to great lengths to make sure you were happy. Good for you. The rest of the world may not be so lucky.

      When a video gets thousands of views (it doesn't matter who posts it) it will get a companies attention. Even smaller videos are seen by a smaller company like Skydio. They are watching and listening, they would be foolish not to keep an ear to all of the popular social media sites.

      Hey James, we did reach out to billy because he tagged us and we noticed the abnormal behavior. We would do the same for other customers, no matter their subscriber count if we saw an abnormal crash on their social media. Everything after we got Billy’s info to our support team was handled just like any other warranty claim. Hope this clears things up!

      Id be willing to bet mid day it would work fine. Lowish light plus the way the water was reflecting the sky probably had something to do with it.

    The warranty states that they will not replace the drone if submerged regardless of cause ( can be read from 1:17-1:32) - yet they replaced yours. Is that not RUclips favoritism?

      Your right, but it was fucked-up the way the drone was behind him , and then it suddenly veered to the right, and went down. Unless your flying it with the controller, you cannot trust this drone. You never know if you let it fly itself, when the damn thing might go crazy.

    I was/am in the first batch and Skydio emailed me 1/27 to say my order was ready. I replied and placed the order 2/5. My credit card was charged immediately. It is 2/10 and no word on when the order will/has shipped. I chatted with customer support on Friday and they had no news. One would expect (at least this one) that my credit card would not be charged until the shipment was made. No news is no news but geez... Billy - don't fool yourself. You are special, I am just another early order (10/2)/slow delivery soul.

      Its' very possible, since Skydio mentions in its Safety and Operating Guide, "Do not fly over bodies of water more than 30 ft. across if Skydio 2 indicates a GPS quality warning" and "Do not fly around transparent surfaces like windows or reflective surfaces like mirrors greater than 60cm wide".

      It really does look like a GPS snafoo - and I think the glassy water may have helped cause the confusion.... I think the drone was getting a stronger GPS signal reflected off the lake and suddenly thought it was X feet higher than it should be. Optical sensors couldn't tell any better because they too were seeing a reflection... so the algorithm in the drone said - You need to lower yourself by X feet (or whatever unit you want to use) now, causing it to "go where many cranberries have before..." ;) Still, Kudos to Skydio for you Billy - even if we all know you're privileged. Can't wait to see more video, but maybe stay away from large, glassy ponds, eh?

      Sean , 1500$, might not seem like alot to them, but where I come from that's alot. They charge 129$ for a 60$ dollar charging hub. Sorry you haven't got your drone yet, pretty ridiculous

      @@MichaelDaviesMusic Even if Skydio drone made a mistake with mirrored tree and wrong telemetry, Skydio have/will have this drone, analize what happend and I'm sure they will take in into consideration in future upadets, if this was a case...

    Hi Billy, this is great news that Skydio is so responsive. I also have emailed them and purchased extra batteries etc and their response and support is excellent. For a smaller company than DJI, I really hope Skydio exceeds in the future. Really love the drone...

    It does seem the blue bird does not do well over water in lower light. Skydio is still a path-breaking quad-prop. I’m still sold on it. My goal is beautiful footage, not to put it through paces (that is the work of reviewers!) Great video again, Billy. 💛😎

      Brian Kushner Yes, all customers who have a crash within warranty will not be put at the end of the line, they will receive advanced replacement. We want to make sure all our customers are happy.

      Skydio well it sounds as if some of your customers are unhappy they ordered first batch and didn’t receive their drone yet. I also think that people shouldn’t put something on sale without sufficient stock using deposits.

    That's great for you. Meanwhile, I was supposed to be in the first batch, but still have NOT received my Skydio 2. My order number is #61744363. I'm disappointed in Skydio. I think they've forgotten about me at this point.

      @@SeanOzz I ordered mine on October 2nd. It's very disappointing that Skydio lacks the ability to communicate with us. Last update I received was October 30th, where they emailed me the following "The crew is prepping the cabin (among other things) for takeoff and we look forward to getting you in the air. Manufacturing lines at HQ have transitioned into final production. We expect to start shipping in late November in the order that reservations were placed, and production batch 1 shipments will continue into December." With that in mind... it's now February. No other communication from Skydio on my order.

      Yep, this is our policy if we determine the vehicle is going to be replaced as it makes shipping/receiving easier for the customer when they receive a box and shipping label to return the drone in. Hope this answers your questions.

    lucky you my friend, I had a super similar, problem with mine, It has been almost a month coming back and forth with Andrew at Skydio Support asking me flying logs, videos the more logs and photos, of course, I did upload videos, photos, and logs for them, exactly when and how the crash happened, pretty much the beacon stopped been able to control the drone, it got to a point that the battery ran out of power and it just crashed into a tree, true I do not have so many followers like you and that made a huge huge difference in my replacement process, long story short after coming back and forth with them giving them whatever they asked and requested I still having a malfunctioned drone and I can not fly because Skydio said it is not safe to fly as is :(, I guess it is amazing technology but support is not the best and replacement for the rest of us, not the best neither.

      I feel you man....I cancelled mine two days ago (batch 2)...I have seen at least 4 RUclipsrs crash theirs...But hey it's good that those of us who didn't get theirs got to see all the problems that people are having..crashes, Telemetry, Controller, losing tracking, app... etc etc....Not worth the money or the wait....Thanks Billy Kyle!

      Finally on the 1st of feb my order came up and paid the 1500. A week later no updates on shipping. From what I hear this seems to be the norm.
      It would be nice if they responded on twitter or email or anything with an update. 1500 is a pretty penny to just wonder and wait.

    Yeah, for those of us that don’t have a UTube channel what would happen? I’m glad you were taken care of and you can continue to advertising for them. But every thing about this drone, i.e. not being able to fly in a house for my real estate business etc. has proven that the nay sayers were right!!!!!!!! This is just an expensive toy, not a tool and and the guy’s in California were just selling a Made in America piece of stuff without thinking of Drone Pilots. Sorry to be so negative, but I’m disappointed.

    I had the complete opposite experience. Mine decided to come to a stop and conduct an emergency landing into the water. You apparently need 20 satellites to fly over water now. It was my fault and they said it was not a bug. It would have been nice if I wasn’t locked out of controlling it, I was 40-50 up and had no risk of myself crashing it.

    The Skydio 2 user manual states: "Do not fly over bodies of water more than 30 ft. across if Skydio 2 indicates a GPS quality warning." And: "Do not fly around transparent surfaces like windows or reflective surfaces like mirrors greater than 60cm wide." The lake was a body of water more than 30 feet across and its smooth surface was highly reflective, essentially a mirror of everything above or around it. Thus, the crash was not purely random or impossible to predict. You did not direct it to fly over the lake, but the effort to skirt the trees and track you caused it to go where the water happened to be. This caused the underside cameras to go awry. The event might be easy to reproduce, provided the water were as still and the sky as gray as the on the day of the original mishap. But I also suspect that the drone has a general problem when a short distance above water.

    I just received my "new" Skydio 2 with dust, fingerprints, and a scratch on one of the camera lenses. Seven days later and still no response from 3 phone calls and 3 emails! Phone calls go straight to voicemail explaining that they are busy... Absolutely no response from emails. The scratches on the lens are not very big. However, I have heard that this could be an issue. Anyone out there have a small scratch? Are the obstacle avoidance cameras VERY sensitive to mud, dirt, scratch etc. on lenses? Or, are they more resilient?

    Great that they did that! I'm still waiting on mine to arrive, think I'm in the 3rd batch so it will be a while before I get to see if mine will fly! My 3DR Solo is still flying, but I haven't used it but a few times and am reluctant to do much with it since they stopped building them. I have never had a problem with it.....

    I don’t understand why there are so many negative comments about Skydio and Billy new drone. The company has stated several times that what was done with Billy will be repeated for anyone else who is getting a approved replacement. It’s not hard to believe, several companies do this same warranty/replacement. I have received my Skydio 2 as I was part of 1st batch, try not to bash them because they take great care of their customers. After dealing with DJI for several years I know what happened to Billy seems unbelievable. This would never happen with them. Great video Billy thanks for sharing how a great company treats its customers.

    I didn't think Skydio would do it but I guess they felt it would be better be better to keep Billy K. happy rather then anxious and frustrated. I would have preferred to watch the video of Billy crying and stammering because they wouldn't replace his drone. That would make me happy!

    Great job and congratulations. The timeline here is interesting because you put out your video and tagged them in some posts on social media, which then prompted them to contact you. An owner who crashes their drone with no RUclips channel, social media following, etc. is not likely to be treated as well as you were. Maybe this company is different but you know DJI would only replace it if you had the Care Refresh plan already bought. Also, I wonder what they would have done if you had not been able to recover the drone? DJI requires the crashed drone or they won't replace/refund at all. Unrelated to drones, but RODE (microphones) will not replace their microphone units if the transmitter falls into water and can't be recovered. It just happened to me and the Wireless Go microphone clip just popped off and the piece went into deep water and couldn't be recovered. I hope Skydio really is this good of a company because that is how it should be when you pay good money for a product like this. Cheers!

    It looks to me as the drone may have been confused by the calm clear reflection of the water and increased its speed to get into the airspace that was actually the reflection underneath the surface. Also, was the subject recognition reset to track you or was it looking for the car? I’m not sure if anyone thought of this as well but would that be a possibility? Glad you received a new one and the warranty process was flawless.

    This exact thing just happened to my bf SHREDDIE MCSKATE- we live at the beach and he literally took it out for the first time and it turned and sped up abd went around our house and dive bombed into the pond behind our house! They are replacing it, but we’re afraid it’s going to happen again!? Did you take your new one by water again and was it okay??

    My Thoughts.
    If the service you received was normal, Kudos to Skydio.
    Skydio replacing the drone was only half the solution (i.e.damage control) WIll Skydio notify the community what went wrong and how they fixed the problem?

    I bought a DJI mavic 2 from the first batch and get a lot of issues with it. The camera was shaking each time I went sideways. They send me a new one (refurbished ?) and now my 3 batteries are swollen after less than 20 charges. They told me that the warranty time is out then I have to buy new ones . My experience with the DJI support is awfull , they manage as a monopole brand (as Apple) their customer support is only there to make him give up
    Big up if a new brand does not consider the customer only as a wallet ready to spend 420 boks to buy again for defective products (the price of 3 DJI batteries)

    Billy, as I reviewed the video again I noticed right after the drone cleared the tree, the image tilted a little bit facing down and I paused the video, what I saw was a perfect sky reflection on that calm water, as clear as if the drone camera was pointing upwards, focusing the sky??? Is it possible the drone got confused and took the sky reflection and flew towards the water instead of upwards? Think about it?

      This just happened to my bfs skydio too, it went around our home full speed and dove into a pond in the back of our house which had a fountain on in it.

    I know it's not even fair between the mavic 2 and the skydio in terms of the ability for it to track you if you are trying to film yourself, but other than self filming, is there any reason you would go skydio over mavic 2??

    Dang, I paid for my drone like a week ago(batch1), got the beacon and extra props, still haven't shipped drone, hopefully soon! glad they taking care of downed drones, and hopefully working out the kinks for the rest of us. Wish they wouldn't of taken the money if they weren't ready to ship though.

    Great video! Piecing things together from others, it appears that the drone can't fly when it's dark. Others are wanting a software update to inform us it's too dark, and perhaps RTH when it's too dark. They need to update the software when it's too dark. A few seconds before your crash you said "...it's very dark, especially where it got stuck back there..." confirming the drone can't fly when it's dark. Let's hope for a software update soon to address the lighting issue.

    yup...this was not standard protocol as multiple comments and commenters already attest to. Sorry Billy, but what they just did was marketing and business 101; go for nunbers and meet quotas based on utilitarian demand, not invest time to the majority of people STILL obviously waiting on their drone or those who already cancelled. I have yet to see any company actually do this, so maybe this incident is no different...save that they made you happy whereas DJI did not, but DJI is bigger and has more reputation and resources they can pad themselves with as insurance policy.

      what does sound commendable is that they want the drone back asap to make sure they can accurately figure out why it tanked...Another company (Breakthrough Photography) just did something similar with a product I bought from them...sent me a replacement even before I shipped out defective camera part. Companies that really like to make things and make things work really invest in this mentality.

    Billy, ask Skydio permission if you can go back to the same location and simulate the crash site with the new drone. as some of the folks here are speculating, it could be the reflection of the water that confused the drone into crashing.

    I am assuming you are in the US so this question is just a curiousity for me but what's the legal situation there with a drone flying on active track, e.g.
    Who is the person in command etc.?
    Line of sight rules etc.?
    The above said this is a pretty impressive drone and yes I have looked at crash videos as well as successful flights.

    I had a similar experience except one of my batteries wouldn’t fully charge ever. Within four emails they overnight shipped a replacement. Great service!

    Sure - it can be argued he got noticed. A lot of bigger companies might not have even noticed this opportunity to make amends and gain some free pub. It speaks to competency that they recognized a situation and took initiative. If anyone was mistreated by skydio cs - that's another story but lets not get testy because they did the right thing in their own interest.

    I do think you deserve a replacement, but apparently Skydio treated your case so quickly and well is because you are a big drone influencer. And if you were just an average guy, Skydio might use its Safety and Operating Guide, "Do not fly over bodies of water more than 30 ft. across if Skydio 2 indicates a GPS quality warning" or "Do not fly around transparent surfaces like windows or reflective surfaces like mirrors greater than 60cm wide", to void your warranty.

    Sure looked like low light conditions to me, but hey, we all know that isn't in their fine print of what NOT to do with their drone. It most likely started tracking itself over the mirror of water it went over to go around the tree. I'd be interested to see the position in relation to you that you had it in at the time.

    Truth is it was neither the drones nor your fault. it was strictly bad GPS data the drone was relying on. Be it a spike in information or possibly even a solar flare. But seeing the telemetry not change as the drone clearly was losing altitude means it thought it was in the same place. Bad GPS data....

    You consider their support team one of the best, can you name any other that comes close? DJI isn't. Reading Autelpilots comments aren't great. I have no bias, but why in your opinion isn't it the best with that royal treatment?
