- Male city is the capital of the Maldives, it is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Worth a visit to see the other side of the Maldives that is not just white sand and blue water. Great cafe's tours and only 10 minutes from the airport.

It’s not that small, I mean it’s pretty small, but It will take about 20 minutes to walk to the other side of the island, and that’s kinda long for some people who have to get to work quick.
But why don't they use bicycles, I only saw a handfull of them. I can't grasp their love for scooters, fuel costs, and in such a crowded space, the scooters use a lot of it.
Male could be a great city if all residents have commitment to use bicycle. no more fossil vehicles!
Agreed, the place is so small make it easier to execute such policy. But they need a better government.

I have been there since 2007 last 11 years ago.Living at Villingli island about over the 1 years.Long live Maldive.
It' is super claustrophobic. You can walk from one end to the other in 40min, it's just 2,9km long and 1,3 wide

Such a difference from the amazing resorts visitors go to the Maldives for. Most visitors to the Maldives dont even go to Male. They land at the airport and then join speedboat or seaplane transfers straight to their resorts. There are resorts in and around Male but I dont think I would like to stay there. Many large ships arriving and departing Male on a daily basis.
Really I don't know how people spend there life such a small area

@Francis Lim I think he's talking about the country, like it's super small and shit, I mean for me I don't care since I have my social life and academic life to keep myself busy, if I get bored I'll play some games or something, no one here really cares we don't have forests or any terrain to go adventure on, it's just a fairly normal city, excluding the use of motorcycles and lower wage than most Europeans and Americans, our lives are normal, I live in a pretty big house compared to other Maldivians, I had suicidal thoughts before but not because of loneliness, it was due to other reasons.

Nice to see it, I was there in ‘88 and it was sparse, low level buildings and pretty basic. It looks like any Asian city now.

As a Maldivian I think male’ is the most cramped and the most claustrophobic island I ever been to in my life ( Hulhumale and the other islands are way better) you could little walk from one side to another in like an hour. No need to use motorcycles and cars to pump out gas that can harm the sky. We can just walk and use bicycles. ( ok maybe have a few cars so that they can go to the airport) and other than that Hulhumale is way better than male’ Hulhumale has more trees and more area than at least male’ and mostly my last point male’ is mostly full of garbage and everyone cramps in to go anywhere mostly the strangers I met half of the are really impatient. THIS IS WHY I LIVE IN CANADA 🇨🇦 way better

Out of the 1000+ islands in our country im ashamed that this happens to be the face of it all. People from other countries don't realize that due to the crappy government centralizing the country to the capital people are forced to reallocate for medicine, education etc. Check some of the other islands in Maldives they don't have as much trash and over crowding but the facilities available are that of medieval times.

Was there 6 weeks ago. Have to say, I've never ever seen so many motorbikes. 99.9% ridden by men. Seems like the place is not utilizing the other 50% of its population, except for youknowwhat.

Interesting video. I would personally find spending a lot of time here claustrophobic with the amount of people in such a small area. I have been to Veligandu island (20 mins sea plane from Male) twice though many years ago. Absolute paradise. Wonderful, friendly staff, great food, and the Indian Ocean which is like a warm bath in the lagoon surrounding the island. One day maybe I'll get back there but it's very expensive from the UK.

Beautiful city with a gifted natural environment. Maldives should weed out its fuel-based scooters for electric two wheelers from China, Japan and other countries. EVs would reduce your long-term dependence on petrol costs. Since you have such a small distance to travel, EVs would be a major success in your country.

i think Male is small city , everywhere have a lot cars and people, is a dirty , i see a lot of garbage, big like Venice, to hot,and a lot expencive if u compare with ibiza, Venice, Kan... but yes is a pretty , a great beach's, hot wather, but also no nightlife, its a conservative muslim city, generally for holiday is great, even i prefer Ibiza, my favorite place (Formentera)
