The Maldives sure has changed a lot since we visited in 1992. All we knew before we arrived was what we read in an outdated lonely planet guide, so we did have a bit of culture shock on our arrival. Tourists were not encouraged in Male at that time, and the resort we stayed at was far away and extremely basic. One of our best travel experiences ever, including some scary and very funny moments. Thanks for this lovely video of your Maldives experience - it truly is a beautiful place.

@@ZalNRed Ok, now remember this was 31 years ago - pre google and availability of up-to-date information, no smart phones. Also, none of these things would happen today - the Maldives and travelling there have come a long way.
Scary moment 1 - arriving in Male at 1.30am into an airport looking like a huge shed, we were greeted by military style border personnel with very large guns strapped over their shoulders. Everyone's suitcase was opened and completely searched. 😳 We didn't know that would happen.
Scary moment 2 - our arranged boat transfer to an island resort did not arrive at the time we had been advised and very few people spoke English, so it was hard to find out any information - mobile phones were not common and we didn't have one. Also, when we went out of the hotel to look for our boat driver (maybe he was waiting outside..?), the locals clearly did not like us being out there on the street - tourists in Male were discouraged back then. 😟 We weren't aware of 'Maldivian time'..
Scary moment 3 - Once we finally met up with our transfer, the small boat broke down in the middle of a very large lagoon. We were completely alone, islands all around but too far to swim to. So we had to wait, in the sun, for our driver to check engine parts and clean out the fuel filter to fix it. Glad he knew what to do! What should have taken 45mins took 2 and half hrs. The island staff were so relieved to see us on our arrival!
So yes a few scary moments, but after that our holiday was fantastic!! 😎🌴🏖

I went to the Maldives in 2021 and it was the best trip of my life. I stayed in an island resort and couldn’t explore the local islands cause of Covid, but the Maldivian people are the nicest and friendliest I’ve ever met

My mates family lives in the Maldives, got to experience the real maldives and it did not disappoint, also went to a few resorts and it was amazing. Everyone is nice and friendly too, had such a good time

Crazy to think, some of the most BEAUTIFUL places/countries on planet earth, are the ones who are struggling the most. I know there’s a more logical/economical reasoning but in perceptive wise, would think the best/most beautiful places/countries to live, would be some of the most prosperous ones
I too have covered Maldives stay for two persons at dirt cheap price in 2020.
Really happy that I visited this island like a local.
Wish to go there one more time because of its cost effectiveness.

I get how most RUclipsrs are using faster paced editing to keep up retention times but I feel like it’s been overdone here with constant cuts and transitions. This isn’t supposed to be a hate comment but it’s just my honest opinion, I am a fan but I’m just making an observation

It's a real holiday destination, there is no side to it that hasn't been discussed prior to this video's release, and you can feel safe in knowing that virgin Atlantic charges £5k for 10 nights with good reason in all.

Local islands aren't for tourists, as many foreigners live there and so on , visit a resort i dont recommend even maafushi or anywhere, but its best if you visit a resort so youre not facing local issues and different lifestyles
Also is that the cheapest resort that shows a lot ,choosing to pay more you avoid all these, you have you're trip nothing but joy and nothing making it feeling like you're missing anything taken care of guided and nothing to ruin you're trip
As a Maldivian your story was very accurate but the island Maafushi was spelt wrong

I went to maldives in spring and thank god we didng economy on this trip, like we went to okinawa recently and it has so many dead corals, just like maafushi beaches(we firstly chosed mafuushi hotel) instead of this we went to fares Island, good, living corals and disadvantage is that its not very deep, like even 50 meters away from beach water is like to the chest, in okinawa kts even worse, you walk walk and water is same everywhere, who knows reason why water is like this?
Stay safe as we sometimes have car ,bus,van, cycle

Mate, your videos are top notch. But recently I’m witnessing your edits are too quick and sometimes missing a context like in this one. Overall great, but the transition between the scenes is kinda drags down the attention and makes me loose the focus. Please consider this in your upcoming content uploads since your previous videos are flawless. The ideas are well presented and narrated; I understand the trend created by ticktock where people watch 1 second content but PLEASE keep your videos as they were.

Same lol. It's very jarring to see such quick edits. Maybe it's good for the viewer retention and watch time metrics which help the algorithm but it just doesn't allow you to take in a scene completely before another one snatches your attention away.

Maruhaba! Hello from a marine biologist in Maldives :) next time come to Baa atoll and swim with manta rays :D there's a great resort called Reethi Beach that is really close to the biggest known aggregation site for manta rays in the world - Hanifaru Bay! It's the best
i live near the artificial beach and i used to have swimming lessons there before there was sand instead of the huge rocks
