As a former goodwill manager for almost 5 years, I have a pretty good idea about how goodwill gets these items in the first place. A lot of the nice tech items would get dropped off by older parents who are A) sick of their adult childs shit so they get rid of anything they deem to be a distraction for said adult child. B) They are completely unaware of what it is and simply haven't seen it be used in a year or more. So they get rid of it during spring cleaning. Or C) The owner died and the person donating is just getting rid of it because they are responsible for cleaning up after.
One time I saw 5 RC plane controllers. I'm pretty sure somebody's grandpa died...
Thats so sad 😢@xnamkcor
You neglected to mention the crazy shipping prices goodwill charges though!! Always check what postage is before placing a bid 😅😅
They're not that expensive
bwahahaha OK you don't shop on there much. I've been a regular for over a decade as I'm a reseller... seriously, they'll sometimes hit you for $30 postage on a 1lb box. Always check first!!@@xXVibrantSnowXx
It varies heavily. Goodwill has really hit or miss shipping depending on the size.
that's true! I've been pleasantly surprised a few times with large items costing much less than I anticipated. @@Uchurch89
That’s been a rule on eBay since forever.
Austin is back at it again exposing good sites to shop for discounted used and new tech. Now goodwill won’t have good stuff anymore.
Right?! He showed screenshots of Classic Macs and Apple IIs... which now cannot be found on their eBay page.
Austin is on a mission to make all older tech inacessible
What is worse are the guys who go shopping and buy all the nice clothes and shoes to resell at crazy prices meanwhile the poor person in need of some new clothes or shoes for idk a job interview are gone and only rags remain
He is crazy
That'S a big problem with RUclips. Raising prices and/or making cool stuff disappear for the rest of us.
I loved the ending Matt trying to chastice you for buying a bunch of games then he just goes "ooh I see one I want"
Wow, they packed their shipments 10 times better then GameStop.
Having worked in a goodwill, I can confirm that the HDDs and SSDs get like... Turbo wiped seperately, if not outright destroyed. Same with unmarked DVDs, VHSes, CDs, etc. Anything that might contain personal information or, more importantly 'illegal adult material', is destroyed. Goodwill is not taking chances with potentially getting a predator's wank stash lol.
Wow, that's fucked
The optiplex 760 was such a throwback to when I first started getting into PC hardware. I was using it for school and animating but it could barely run blender. It had a 4770k and I looked up graphics cards and ended up with some $50 MSI radeon HD card and that's when my addiction began lol
This video was a lot of fun. Watching Ken geek out at some of the items was cute. I wish I had a Goodwill like this in Australia 🇦🇺as I would have had a lot of fun bidding on items.
Cashies is still great fun to explore and dankpods makes fun videos about them.
I think stores like salvo’s Vinnie’s and lifeline would be our closest. Picked up a couple of Atari 2600 games from salvo’s online for when the 2600+ comes out. Good thing that if there are multiple stores you only have 1 order. Also grabbed some games from my local lifeline recently.
@@mobiletransportvideowhat about good Sammy's. Would that count?
@@heyster3 They sold me a ''great'' quality switch lite with the left joy con completely busted for $190 But hey, i had fun replacing it myself.
4:00 From what I remember the picture quality on that Mavica was so good.. I mean ridiculously good for the time.
Austin every video: Well isn't it a good day to get scammed!? 🤔
My thought exactly!

A friend of mine gave me a system with a 4930k and 1060 6gb as payment for waiting in line for him when the 3090 launched. A few months later, I built my own system around a 5900X and 3090. My single-core Cinebench score was higher on the 5900X than the multi-core score of the 4930k
I am loving the reactions to the old tech, the nostalgia feeling is real!
This video was awesome. I'd love to see more just like this one!
This was one hell of a great video well done austin and team
Austin is having a techgasm today!😂😂
Austin shouting out psivewri made me smile
great video. always like you guys do some content. i love when matt say "oh i see what i want"
I got second hand embarrassment from that drop
Your video editor deserves a raise.
I was in love with the DV series back in the day. The 9000 was just so good.
The edit for the 1st gen iPad was hilarious. Loved it 😂😂😂😂
Oh man, this means The Grid is gonna get some new traffic 😅 so long deals 🤣❤ It really is a great eBay store!
Is it 'strange' that Austin and Phoenix Resale both drop a video about The Grid on the same day????
I live by the physical location and that was my first thought as well.
a few months later it will be back to normality. We got small attention spans
@@johnnynoname2259I was thinking the exact same thing lol
This needs to be a series
Love the editing in this one 😂
Def a solid video. Part 2 soon pls
Great video I’ve been watching you for a couple months just wanna say thank you you are my favorite RUclipsr and Im trying to be in the field of tech when I’m older so thank you
I want to see Austin bring these old apple products into his local apple, asking if they can help him update them.
As someone who lives in Charlotte and been to the store.... Nothing in there is worth the price they were asking. They were selling used Rasp Pi above new market value.
A few years ago at the old location you could get some really great deals. Remember getting gameboys for $10. Not anymore unfortunately
15:30 I actually thought that it was going to go KABOOM after 10 seconds had they waited. I wouldn't even have waited myself.
My goodwill usually has some good stuff especially video games 😊 I have a playlist on all the cool stuff I found
I hate that perfectly good and working devices such as these no longer have access to anything. I hate forced obsolescence.
I'm old enough to remember using a Mavica as my very first digital camera experience, it was mind blowing! And that was back in 1997, I think it took VGA-res pictures... But man, when you compare the convenience compared to taking film to the photo place and waiting a day or two to get pictures back (of which at least 50% were blurry or not framed correctly), it was a real revolution!
Mine was with a samsung digimax in around 2002! I don't remember the model, i was pretty young and it's long gone. My parents later replaced it with a digimax s500 that lives to this day x)
bro did the uno reverse on being scammed.
You should donate some of those graphics cards to Clint at LGR
Lol that quad duo sounded like a ticking time bomb
That ticking turned into a ticking time bomb real fast🤣
I had completely forgotten about that camera I worked at Sears when this came out 😂
You and Pheonix Resale uploading videos about the same thing at the same time is wild
Is it weird that I watch you guys when I’m working out lol😅
Austin! I volunteer putting on reto gaminging events at my local library, you didn't mention them but kids these days go crazy for those kinect games! We only have a few of them and sadly weren't able to get any off the 360 store before it shut down. You should do a video showcasing which one's you got lol
6:03 lmao that editing 😂
This episode is just Austin buying all the tech I wanted as a teen
12:00 lol.
16:02 when you see a game you owned in the wild
whats really sad is all the tech from goodwill is MUCH LESS CRUSTY than the stuff he got from DK Oldies
5:55 the most loudest efect i ever hear
I had the same laptop with a similar battery back in the day. It saved me from having to find a wall outlet in uni.
15:32 if he plugs that pc in again we're getting "It's all gone again" video.
i remember those dv6000s always failed to where you press the power button, the light would turn on and nothing would happen
You could probably get an old play store version for that tablet thing.
That Dell OptiPlex 760 looks identical to one someone in my family still has and uses to this day, a Dell OptiPlex 755. It was overrun with programs and viruses, but after fixing it, it's working like a charm, but then the HDD wiped itself of all data, but I just reinstalled the OS and now it's working again and has been for a few months now.
You guys should make a video about testing all of those graphics cards!
You should forward some of this stuff to LGR or Techmoan and see what they make of it.
I think goodwill is the same as pawn shops. Sometimes you find a great deal but most times its overpriced good.
I’m sure Psivwri will love the new subs from your shout out with that Eucalyptus Oil reference!
17:30 Matt killed me ☠️😂
If I'd somehow gotten my hands on that Mavica as a kid, I would've been pretending it was some kind of sci-fi gun and the floppy disks its fancy energy magazines.
I have one right now. Highest quality is one image per disc...lol
I dont think that was the original battery that came with that HP laptop. We used to could buy better batteries back in the day where they were pretty much double the size of the original one. thats what looks like someone had done there also. great find.
Guess you could say getting scammed was a Badwill
that floppy cameras awesome every 6 photos hold on bro need to get a new floppy disk out 🤣
This was my go to place to buy used stuff. They had crazy good items. Now its all gone
I have lived in Charlotte my whole life, never knew this store existed. Gonna have to swing by.
I used to have one of those HPs with the Huge batteries. Oh god, the memories.
You can really find a lot of gems at Goodwill!
Kinda of depends.
My locals generally suck, whereas the one next town over, i've gotten a lot of good deals.
They might have to take away Austin's ebay privileges like they did for Linus...
Linus sucks tho. Austin so much better.
Awesome! I own a camera similar to the floppy disc one, a Sony Mavica FD71- 2.5mp. Actually took not that bad of photos at the time, until we got a Kodak camera which ended up blowing it out of the water for clarity. Amusing part, is ours still works as well.
Yeah!!! Love that mention, a big fan of Psivewri♡
that sony camera is very sick, the photo aesthetic is just 👌
6:53 great now it's in my head😂
Alright, the Psivewri shoutout cracked me up
There is a physical brick and mortar location for "The Grid" here in Charlotte, NC. It's actually pretty cool! Depends on when you go in but i've seen tons of classic gaming stuff in the past and really fair prices on some quality gear if you're willing to dig around a bit!
U can tell he’s got his friends with him instead of some corporate editors
Can you imagine if they did a broke versus pro sleeper computer edition using some of the computers he bought from goodwill
4:01 THATS THE CAMERA I USE!!!!! i love using retro tech and the floppy disks are a really fun storage option
omg the ricky bobby reference was goated
This entire video is a total geek out for me, i even had 5 OG iPads at one point because nobody wanted them, but there's no similar thing to a Goodwill Grid in my country :(
I took a Sony Mavica and a few Floppy Disks to my Senior Prom back in 2006. Had it hanging around my neck looking like I was the coolest in my teal suit coat and khaki pants.
I’ve been to the Charlotte, NC, Grid store. Prices are great, selection is decent. You can get a working Core 2 Duo iMac for under $50
omg i used that exact same floppy disk camera at school. we had a big floppy shortage back in the day.
The talladega nights reference made me die of laughter
now the bids will sky rocket after this bid
Austin (or, I guess, it would be duncan33303 back then) in 2012 on D3Live be like: Get an SSD. No seriously. Get an SSD.
That meme stuck with me for some reason lol
At 12:00 Austin was holding a BBC (Big Battery Core)😂😂😂
damn, I need to find these things on goodwill now XD
this video should be called Goodwill Hunting
Me seeing the sony going "oh so thats what set the fold in motion"
6:03 he got so excited about the iPad, he turned into Xbox Live game chat mic quality
You should have said how good will it be 😂
I was not expecting the Psivewri shout out!.😊
Now you should do a video testing out the old graphics cards I am extremely curious of a video like that
I can totally understand why some people drop something good to goodwill. Second hand market is full of lowballing offers and frauds. Dealing with people in there could be annoying. They drop items to goodwill will make these awful buyers or sellers have to do something good to obtain these items. This is why.
Austin is gonna freak when he sees what some of those old NCAA Football games go for now. 13 will continue to have a big community until EA actually makes a new one.
That Dell Optiplex was THE PC that was in every school computer lab I had. Instant PTSD when it saw it.
A ton of those old PC's could probably do just fine running old games or just for homework running efficient builds of linux
lmao the eucalyptus oil
As someome who works for goodwill, you see a lot of things donated and wonder why. Someone donated a Virtual Boy with 9 games. It had the 2 mario games and Wario Land.
I totally had an HP laptop from that era, had the same giant battery, had a super cool cover that looked like fire, I loved it lol
11:29 I had the same one when growing up!! I think I might still have it somewhere in my atic
ngl I was really hoping Austin got the Dev Console cause that's just a cool thing to have
15:16 that power supply!! 😁
I loved how they installed windows 7 made me smile for some reason
that clicking is the fan in the psu
