ANYTHING they think is worth alot WILL GO ONLINE not instore!!!! so any good jewelry or tech or games will go there!!! ANYTHING they didnt sort gets sent to a whole sale center!!! So if you think youll see that stuff you donated on the floor theres a low-medium chance (more on the low side) SO in short you want tech go online, you looking for specific types of items then go to a goodwill with that type of community and be careful what you donate as well!
where i live there are a few goodwills but it seems like only one of them ever has any computers or tech stuff. I always wondered if they just consolidated all the tech at that one store. But the weird thing is its not in a good part of town. Its not the biggest or nicest goodwill in town. But its the only one ive ever found any good tech at. I got super lucky one time and picked up a dell optiplex 9020 for like 10 dollars with the cpu and ram (they always seem to take the ram out before they put it on the floor). Then i found like 6 original xboxs in "not working" for like 6 dollars apiece. I only bought two of them because i wanted someone else to get a deal too but man i should have gotten all of them because the 2 i tested work fine except for a malfunctioning disc tray on one, but i plan to softmod it so the disk tray wont be a problem anyway.
I asked the staff at my local drop-off location about the "good" stuff, and was basically told anything of value is put in a bin to be sent to their online distribution center to be sold there.... So no Goodwill finds will ever be found in my area.
All items should make it out to the floor per corporate policy and you will get in trouble for keeping items for yourself. However you are allowed to buy an item on the floor during an unpaid break.
At that point your better off buying lightly used tech from people second hand in eBay or Mercari. Goodwill's site prices are worse, they don't thoroughly test the tech and it's frequently dirty and broken AND they overcharge for shipping.
my favorite thing is when they separate out the power and accessory cables from electronics and scatter them across every Goodwill in the kingdom like crystal shards or some sht from a 1990s JRPG
Sometimes you have to tap the 360 repeatedly above the drive to get them to work. Those old 360's all have that issue. I've had two that worked like that. Just tap it a few times and the drive opens right up. They don't like standing up either. They are temperamental little beasts.

I used to work in the e-commerce department for goodwill, I will say they don't test pretty much anything save for if it turn on. We also didn't clean anything at all, and actually got in trouble if we did start to clean some electronics because it took too long.
You mean you worked for the e-commerce department at a Goodwill organization. They all have different rules and policies (all 155 different organizations in North America). I used to be a store employee, and I refused to send anything dirty to online sales (or out on the sales floor). I cleaned and packed everything going to online sales, even cleaned the shipping containers the items went in. People started to complain about the time I took, until the sales reports came back. I did make someone mad when I started taking items off the shelves in the store for cleaning.
Thank you for being truthful about the company. Anyone who's talking shit was 100% an awful employee who couldn't give 2 shits about the real cause of goodwill. There's way too many comments talking trash on the company while there's, as you mentioned over 150 different factions of it. Some will care, some won't. It just sucks that those who don't are the stronger opinion
Hey on the goodwill finds, mention that to look for console with disc drives that don't open even cheaper. $25 I paid for one with that and all I had to do was forcefully open by hitting the disc drive until it was opened clean the rubber on the button and now it works perfectly.
Replacement lasers for the 360s were like $15 back in the day. I used to replace them when they'd go bad. If you're willing to spend an extra half hour working on your 360 you could easily fix it up
I feel so old. Up until last year when I finally bought a Nintendo Switch for my wife my latest consoles were PS2 and Dreamcast. Both purchased when they were at end of life. I guess I did get an Xbox 360 for a bit for my roommates in college. I also owned that EXACT Dell computer and had it upgraded like crazy to do video editing. It was my last PC before I switched to exclusively Mac’s for my professional work. Gave it to my nephew to play around with all the junk I had on it. Running XP of course… the last Windows OS I ever really used.
@@docxen I kick myself for selling all my retro gaming stuff about 10 years ago. I had SO much brand new in box items that just weren’t hot yet for collecting like they are now. NIB N64 and Dreamcast controllers, VMU’s. I had two copies of Samba de Amigo US version NIB. And a bunch of obscure PS1 and PS2 games. Zelda OoT gold cart opened but in pristine condition in box with everything. I was ocd with all my gaming stuff so I kept receipts, all inserts, plastic, twist ties, and used an exacto knife to open the shrink wrap on my games and then put them back when not playing them. Oh also had two OG NES used but complete in box with receipt. Power pad, and a bunch of games with boxes, etc. Today my collection would be easily worth 10X what I sold it for… my wife HATEs every time I look up prices on things I owned and sold too soon. It hurts but what can you do but laugh and cry a little inside haha.
I bought a stereo system from the goodwill California ebay page a few years ago. Worked perfectly. I still have it. And they had it priced way cheaper than other ebay sellers and it was in perfect condition
Goodwill sometimes has deals in person too. I just got a Roomba S9 for $25 minus the dock but was perfectly clean as if it was never used. Bought the dock and it’s been working perfectly and cleaning up a lot of dirt.
You should never be surprised by an old 360 disk drive not opening. Every single one I've come across has to be knocked on or lying flat to open. The rubber bands are 15+ years old.

The Xbox disc drive did close on it's own when left open for too long. Considering the console does start OK all you probably need is a new disc drive which could either be sourced as a spare or repaired using a drive with a different fault (broken tray ones are perfect for this)
optical drive issues are very common and very cheaply and easily repaired on those old Xbox 360's. you had to smack the console to get the tray to open on ours, and it started not reading discs very well. replaced the optical drive and belt for the tray, works flawlessly now. i think it only cost like $20-30 or something
I recently got an XBOX 360 online (with controller, charger station and leads) in the UK for £35.
