scott henderson's playing is unbelievable...
a wizard
Scott Henderson should be mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Vai, Van Halen and players of that ilk. I know he's revered amongst guitarist, but it's a shame he's not a household name. Criminally underrated.
Maybe that is because you cant find so much stuff about Scott as those players
+Mark Andersen I love his playing but I have to concede that his current style of playing owes a lot to Jeff Beck.
+Luiz Esmiralha not so sure about that - its as much due to mike brecker, Scofield SRV and others as Beck. And Beck can't touch Henderson in terms of jazz-related note choice. Beck simply comes from a different place. Fine though he is.
+Daniel Stenning Not to mention the huge influence Richie Blackmore had on Scott years back.
IMHO, he deserves the top position of that list.
Henderson has such jaw-dropping control over his instrument - an endless flow of new ideas, flawless and fluid phrasing, a soaring, vocal tone.
I played in a cover band with Scott in SoCal back in the day. Scott’s a blast!
Henderson sets himself apart from the crowd of guitar players in this world. Wow, he's on a special level. Kudos to Cobham and Berlin for keeping it simple in this moment.
Yes he does! Seems like most of the shred-heads sound as though they're practicing scales.
This is the best version of Stratus from any guitarist period.
Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's
I prefer the real version of jeff beck...
Scott Henderson literally 'blew the doors off the hinges' and this clip is only 6.27? This is a sweet one. I like them as a unit. Honestly all 3 players are living virtuoso's. 'Mahavishnu Orchestra ' was a serious jazz fusion unit. Like them or not they were blazing at their peak. Scott Henderson's knowledge of scales within the jazz framework and combining it with blues, rock and yes funk, along with his own fire puts him on top with every other world class guitarist. Jeff Berlin is brilliant; he deserves all the accolades that he gets and then some. He has a true passion for bass playing and music in general which comes out in his teaching. I have been to several of his clinics as of a few years ago and I still use some of his techniques and utilize his lessons in music theory. I would love to see an album from these 3. And Cobham is 70 plus years old? Wow! I can only hope to be playing at his level at that age.
When I started learning and playing guitar seriously.. They were my teenage hero...
Thanks! This reminds me of that time..
Shockingly Explosive 💥and fast as lightning ⚡️ Scott Henderson and Billy Cobham 🥁🎻 Jeff Berlin.
Legendary!
One of my favorite tunes of all time...what a line up!
Scott sounds so amazing !
2:35 the magic starts flowing.. and everybody knows it.. and respects the moment..
scott henderson is pure magic,
make me smile every time
For all those slagging off Jeff Berlin's performance, he is simply playing the way he plays. There is no-one else like him - that's why he sounds like he does. Personally, I love his bass playing.
Paul Hurley Anyway this version is much to fast, not groovy at all. Jeff and Scott do their best to keep it interesting...
Not everything has to "groove" - they are playing it in their own unique way, exactly the way they want to play it.
@@jps9508 it's as fast as the original... besides, being fast doesn't mean lack of groove
Viejotrueno
This is way faster than Cobham's original studio version.
Berlin is one of the best bass players of all time.
Noooo!! GRACIAS!!!
What a trio!!! Scott Henderson is one of the best guitar players ever, no doubt about. Gary Willis is fabulous on bass as usual en Billy...no comments! That's simply the very best of music...Don't miss Tribal Tech, it is a fantastic band as well! Enjoy the music...
Jeff Berlin on bass...
@@mojobigbrown5431 thx my mistake!
@@michelartaud340
They both kick all ass; easy to mistake them.
there is no other player like Scott Henderson. biblical proportions. the most ferocious player on the planet with be bop vocabulary. when they made him. destroyed the mold afterwards. Unique and extraordinary.
One of my ALL TIME FAV songs. i bought this Album, within a few days of it's release in Oct 73... Scott you NEVER cease to amaze the ears Bud!
Simplesmente Impressionante !!! Scott Henderson é Amazing !!! Aliás, HBC é Amazing
Agree with you! AMAZING! my fav...
Three of the best!!!
Love it....Saw Cobham with Mahavishnu.......as for Henderson.....The BEST of the BEST
He play guitar so freaking loud. But truly one of the best.
Love Scott !!!! Amazing trio.
Scott Henderson what a player he is one of the greats. I’m so happy this video was up to his standards if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be up, thanks Scott from a fellow Wanker!
Jeff Berlin is the main " CAT " in the bass department ! Absolute groove monster !
Unfairly misunderstood, it's true ... But yes: a monster of the bass!
I forgot what a bad ass Billy Cobham was. Thanks for the post.
Alucinante
Amazing date. It was two shows they played that night. I attended the closing one. They were ON FIRE. I remember apart from the outstanding music how carismatic and funny Jeff Berlin was.
What crazy tempo is this? At leats 50% faster than the original cut on Spectrum.. My respects to Jeff for holding the groove at this insane velocity \o/
Jeff Beck does this at the Northsea Festival at a much slower tempo
This TRIO is fabulous fantastic.
It certainly is, and it shows how versatile a drummer Billy Cobham is.He's done that song in all flavors: Jazz, Fusion, heavy rock. you name it.
excellent knowledge + skill = awesome
On fire.
Cobham does not age... How is that possible?
Fantastic!!
Ok take a whipping to be the only one to say I didn't think it came off that great. One of my favorite guitar players and drummers over the years.
I love Scott and have been a fan since he played with Zawinul and Corea but I liked his approach more when the whammy bar wasn't such a big part of his playing. He is a monster but I think it takes away from all that ingenious harmonic stuff he does.
mrbertiep1 hey since Holdsworth’s gone, someone had to do it! haha
I agree completely.
Yeeeaahhh!!! Many ideias all the time!!! Scott.. Amazing!!
Scott Henderson.....nuff said!
Fame isn't everything..though the money would surely help Scott.
He is absolutely in a class of his own and plays so many ways not just in the same style. The heavy bluesy touch gives his fusion a hard edge with Jazzy licks turned into crunching brilliance. No end to interesting twists and turns and no boring runs.I'd say Hendrix, Beck, SRV,Holdsworth and himself wrapped into one
Incredible..fusion legend
I love watching Billy count it in at 4:46
Heureux de les écouter, merci
I guess Jazz purists left the place when Scott cranked up the amp. Fuck yeah!
que grandes!!
Thanks for posting this! Good lord, that was tremendous! ha
tHE GREATEST.
tremendos!!!!!
This vid is GREAT!! Thanks for posting!!!
Thank You!
very very good..........................................................................................
Billy, drivin the trio although w/o 2 basses to symmetrically resonate ; guitarist Henderson can take stage w. Any& BERLIN , I normally love the basses to be be thunderous earth movers, however Berlin magically , melodically stands intricately woven , never lost !
que bueno un poco de cultura !!!
tremendo, gracias
listen to Scott play when he was 16 at 1410 Michigan dr lake Worth FL 100yd east my house dam good then
Scott is the greatest guitar's pioneer.

Bon groove ,chapeau
It's great sound.
Wowww... incredible trio!!... the New Band of Gypsys🤘🤘
"Really, I'm just a blues guitarist". Bwahahaha!
Vaya tres bestias por dios santo!!
I loved it, it was great an original but yet was like a freeway jam lol Scott you are a bad ass and your humble. from this fellow Wanker!
Scott is such a beast !
Bravooooo 👍🙏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Goodness what happened? Looks like Billy has paired down a bit. I'm like where are all the other 🥁😀
Coisa linda. Um dos maiores de todos os tempos!!!!
still love it!! ;-)
3 Genius mastering going beyond!
3:36 the onset on that wah was fucking sick
sweet.
you cant fuck with this, its godlike.just submit to the greatness
The original "song" is way better
But....
The Henderson solo is one if his most glorious achievements
He joins the ranks of the greatest...
He sounds very good….but listen to Jeff Becks rendition….you decide
2:14-2:19 lick reminds me of a line by Holdsworth in Devil Take the Hindmost solo. Scott's the OG
❤
La versión de Hugo Mendez es increíble
Bass player is all over the place when he should stick to the riff as written! Scott is class!
why don't you let people just play...billy obviously likes what he does, so why does your opinion matter at all? enjoy it or don't...i think they should have played it a little slower, but who cares? it's still in the stratosphere
Oh be quiet with yourself. Jeff Berlin is the best electric jazz bass guitarist & he's done quite a few tours with Billy Cobham who happen to write "Stratus".
I like the attack of this. Billy on the Cymbal FIRST...! Lol. Scott even has a bit of the Beck-ola attack.. Mr Berlin - Sir Jeff B. - is the tonal Bass Mastah!
Jeff Beck isn't playing bass here. It's Jeff Berlin
great footage!
Damn, Scott is ripping it up here!
awesome!
What's the name of this song
"Stratus" originally done by Billy Cobham in like 76? He wrote it anyway. it's on one of Billy Cobham's solo albums. I believe John Scofield plays guitar on the original
@@stevend1354 Sir Thanks for the information
It was Tommy Bolin on guitar from 1973
