    When younger people ask me what the differences are between the two places, I often struggle to suggest anything significant in terms of current academic output. But, in terms of ideology or temperament, I offer this analogy: Oxbridge is like Hogwarts split in the middle: Oxford is like Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, with everything good and bad that entails, while Cambridge is like Ravenclaw and Slytherin, with everything good and bad that entails.

      Rmiah13 I think the whole system is all wrong. If someone wants to be a doctor, they should start working in a hospital immidiately, and be educated there at the same time as they earn money. That would be much better than wasting a lot of time and money on a university, where you have to learn a lot of stuff which isn't relevant to the actual job you are heading for.

    Prestige is like a currency: its value changes when you move to a different region. The other day I was talking about MIT with an Indian engineer. She didn't know much about MIT and I hadn't heard of her school in India, which, as it turns out, is a whole lot more selective! It's funny how many people base their self-esteem on cachet only to have it vanish when they move outside of their own bubbles.

      Despite that, Oxford and Cambridge are known internationally. Most professionals known about these universities even if only by name. For someone who wants to gain jobs in a variety of countries, having gone to Oxford or Cambridge is one of the best bets to make an impression in employers. Yes, prestige changes its values depending on the region you live in, but just like money, some is better than none.

    • @area5productions
      @area5productions 9 лет назад

      ***** That's interesting. The Oxford brand is less recognizable in the United States, which goes to show that the prestige of a university is relative. It depends on your perspective and nationality.

      Cole Davis Not actually. Oxford and Cambridge were the first universities in the world and hundreds of years before other universities existed they started accepting international students. They've educated world - leaders for centuries. And the amount of history and tradition about both of them is crazy.

    • @stefan-iv3yx
      @stefan-iv3yx 9 лет назад

      ***** Actually the day Oxford was founded is unknown but teaching existed since 1096, while the university of Bologna was founded in 1088 so we can't be sure if oxford is the oldest in the world or not. And Oxbridge gives the best education in the world. They showed their high standards throughout the centuries. Hundreds of years before other universities existed, Oxford accepted their first international student - Emo in 1190. And yes, oxford and Cambridge are really some of the best in the world - they always rank in the top 5.

    Both are amazing and actually both are amazing in every field. But still you can pick one depending on your field. I studied physics at Cambridge and that was s good decision, because Cambridge is historically better in physics(generally in science), nobel prizes manifest it. Oxford is better in politics, literature, linguistics, list of prime ministers and oxford dictionaries manifest it.
    Finally I want to make my point. Science is the most important part of university(in my opinion), so Cambridge is a little better university.

    Cambridge has been universally acknowledged as the best UK university, over the past 10-15 years.
    Oxford and Cambridge together are in a different league to the best of the rest, thanks to the collegiate system providing comfortable accommodation and delicious food - no time wasting shopping, cooking, washing up etc... plus a ready made community of like minded students - and a college bar, gym, fantastic sports facilities, frequent college socials - and most importantly tutors, often leading academics in their particular fields, providing one/two to one tutorials on a weekly basis.
    If you're not VERY bright or want to spend your three years getting pissed, then avoid Oxbridge. There is a massive amount of extremely difficult and challenging work that only the best students will cope with.

      Depends. At Cambridge they offer a Natural Sciences course in which you study all Biological and Physical sciences and only later specialise in a particular science whereas at Oxford you can immediately do a course in a particular field of science and then specialise further into that field later.
      From my research it seems Cambridge is better for science if you know you want to go into science but aren't sure which field or just want a more general scientific understanding. However Oxford seems better for specialisation within a field and if you definitely know which science is your thing.

    comparing two universities is ridiculous. It should not be a competition. If I was going to study, I would choose the university on the basis of a few criteria:
    - what universities offer the program degree I am interested in
    - what universities are the nearest ones to my home
    - which is the cheapest university I can afford to go to.

      Be proud of your school, both are great however, and the competition breeds a nice touch to the debate, in America its akin to Harvard vs Yale, yet to betruthful there are many great universities these days like Stanford, MIT, CAL Teck, U of Berkley, Dublin University, St. Andrews.

    Do Oxford and Cambridge graduates would know the first necessity for human life. Like where/how to get clean water and how to grow crops and bake bread?
    Or it is the 2nd tier knowledge of all the economic and scientific gibberish bull, that no normal person understands or buys it as a useful knowledge?
    What about spirit, meditation, auras, chakras and other real knowledge, that is being kept away from us?

    • @matssm123
      @matssm123 8 лет назад +1

      Why would such information be useful in countries such as England?

      We all know that sugar is bad for us, but we give it to the ones we love the most (our children). Imagine what we would achieve if we would free up all the labour force that is doing useless jobs like layers, economists, advertisers if we would not create stuff that we do not need and not try to sell that not needed stuff to people. We have to rid ourselves from any money system and start living our true lives.

    • @matssm123
      @matssm123 8 лет назад

      Jesus christ these are the most elite students in the world. They become researches, engineers, neuroscientists, surgeons, businesses, creators and leaders of the modern world. That's more important than learning and of the useless crap you just said, why would that be tough in an elite universoty meant for future world leaders? Stop being such a hipster and accept the facts.

    • @maximumaxiom6823
      @maximumaxiom6823 8 лет назад +1

      Somehow political affairs seem to be worse and worse.
      Last time I checked we are still using 1880's technology to move us around (cars and buses). All the scientists, surgeons have not really achieved anything of importance. If you loose and arm best you can get is a plastic replacement. I do not even want to start about businessman who's aim is to create useless stuff and then sell this useless stuff to sheep's like me and you. Invest some time researching cabal schools, fairly secret schools where elite children go. We have to work more and more. If you fail to see that............good for you my friend!!!

    One of the most powerful and wealthy men in the history of planet Earth
    was a British imperialist named Cecil Rhodes. Rhodes was appointed as
    Ambassador to South Africa, partly as a matter of convenience because so
    much of it belonged to him. He was by far the biggest landolder under
    the British flag o the African Continent. Rhodesia was named after him
    because he owned most of it. He owned most of the gold that was mined in
    South Africa. He also owned most ot the diamonds, silver, paltium, timber,
    cattle, slaves, lead, gemstones, and everything else. One of Rhodes endowments
    was a program called " the Rhodes Scholarship." The purpose of the Scholarship
    is to select politically viable young men of impressionable age and give them
    training in England that will assist in reuniting the former British Empire.
    There are more Rhodes Scholars among Bill Clintions appointees than in
    any Scholarship program himself, has the surrendering of America's National
    Sovereignty back to England as one of his higher priorities.
