Great video, and thank you so much for the transparency on the set-up! That GT4 (and RS) are my dream cars... but GT7 is the closest I can get for now :)
Thanks for watching! GT3 was the game that got my son and I into track driving. That led to a BRZ when they built COTA in our backyard. Keep your dreams alive!
Strut fronts, and your friends told you not to add anymore camber? Is their suggestion validated with pyrometer? Camber settings are def a personal preference and vehicle stiffness influenced. If someone really leans on the car at turning, then more camber is needed. But if the chassis stiffly sprung where the roll angle of the chassis isnt as high, then camber will def work against us. Tho all these can be validated with pryometer, outter tire should be 15 - 20 f colder than inner tire (just as a reference). Im driving a poorman porsche (the 86 chassis), i found myself needing more front camber when i asked the car to roll in more vmin. For finding my toe setting, if im running big front camber (approaching -4) i would always run some toe out to cancel out camber thrust. And for the rear toe, i def recommend finding source on your rear toe curve. If the rear toes out under compression then it's definitely a no brainer to run toe in... however GT4RS does have 2.5x thr power than my little 86 fa24 lol. Where places that i can get away with running 0 rear toe, it might not apply to a high hp car. Cheers man!
Thanks for all the great information! Check out the video titled 'Imagine if Porsche unleashed an all-out, no-limits GT4 RS | With Dundon Mods we built one!' to see where we’re currently at. The front camber is now set to -3.6, and the rear camber is at -3.0. We’ve confirmed these settings with a pyrometer. I’m currently focused on lowering my lap times further and will reassess once I achieve a significant improvement.
If I had a race team I would do that but with a weekend warrior budget you have to rely on intelligent friends that can clearly communicate their changes and results. BTW - good to hear the content is useful.
Hi, how did you fit 265 and 305s 20inch Hoosiers in your car, is it because the camber plates? I purchased the camber plates from Dundon and Apex 20 inch but in increased the height of the car and the clearance does not look like yours
I see you are running with 20" wheels and Hoosier. After this alignment, did you have any rubber/wear issue on the tire edges? I am wearing my front tires on both edges at the point that it starts to delaminate after 3/4 sessions.
@@ItsTrackTime I have the car fixing the alignment this week based on your suggestions. The last 3 sets of tires last 8/9 session top before cord. What is the tire pressure your are running Hossier hot ?
Still weighing my options. I heard a Soul header back catless system this past weekend and it was *loud* but was told it mellows out when the valves are closed.
Matt was happy with his JCR although given it was just the rear muffler replacement the volume was limited. I also have a JCR valved muffler on my GT4 and could barely tell the difference between open and closed so I just pulled the vacuum line and plugged it - valves open all the time. For the GT4 RS I'm looking for a much larger sound delta between open and closed.
All of the GT4 guys run the front sway bars soft to deal with the natural understeer. There is a debate between GT4RS guys as to whether it's best to run stiff or soft in the front. I'm confused as to why the sway bar setup that works on the GT4 wouldn't be what works on the RS. I tried the stiff front (rear medium) first and because of understeer am now about to try the soft front next weekend.
We started with medium/medium bars and 265/295 tires. We didn't feel any understeer, probably because we were over gripped in the front, but did feel oversteer and the tail swam under heaving braking. We therefore moved the front bar to full stiff, to counter the oversteer, and upgraded the rears to 305s. Both of the issue then went away.
the GT4RS has stiffer springs, and more downforce. Im guessing that makes a difference. im planning on running med/med. I run that in my GT4 and will try it in the GT4RS im working on.
Which model Cayman did you own that would survive an entire year on one set of pads? I love these cars, but am trying to find the sweet spot between fun on track and consumable costs. Thanks!
987.1 - Still own it but it's currently sitting on the bench. It's a full race car so very light but only 350 hp. At the time I bought it I didn't consider it a momentum car but by today's standards it is.
Barry, so in the end what's the solution to use 265 and 305 tires on 20"? what are the wheel offsets you have? I have 9x20 ET50 and 11x20 ET50, using stock tires for now, and would love to switch to 265/305. however am concerned about tire rubbing.. use 3.0 camber front and 2.5 rear, stock height. my car is gt4, but sizings seems to be identical.
Unfortunately right after my wheels were produced the head of Finspeed was locked out of his company by his partners. He no longer has access to the computer and the new owners don't seem to understand his records so no offsets were provided. I'll ping them again and see if they have decoded his records yet?
@@ItsTrackTime oh wow, what a drama:) only if it's not too much hassle. I'd love to try Nakang CRS and they are only available in 305, but have a feeling it will rub..
