As much as I have loved 911's over the decades, when the Boxter came along I knew Porsche was evolving in the right direction. They're adding the Cayman to the Boxter platform just moved this car right to the top shelf, in my opinion. Intelligent engineering is such a pleasure to see here. :)
As a previous owner of GT4, these cars are awesome. But you do need to acknowledge that on a new 992 GT3 it's got a way more sophisticated suspension than this car. Front wishbone setup, rear A-arm multilink, and rear axle steering. As good as a GT4RS is, it still can't keep up at the 'ring with a 992 GT3.
@@993mike both amazing cars, but I find the ring times to be about the least important thing I can think of for a car that is primarily going to be a road car - at least for me! This definitely seems like the sweet spot in the Porsche lineup.
I drove a 911 GT3 RS and a Cayman GT4 RS back to back at Dominion raceway in Thornburg, VA, and while the 911 feels bigger all around, the GT4 feels bigger in the seat but smaller all around. It's hard to describe, but the Cayman was more comfortable than the 911. It wasn't quite as fast around the track as the 911, but the 911 had rear wheel steering and a bit more herspers, but the Cayman "felt" better driving around the track. Both are fantastic cars!

Loved the UPS truck moment - it really looked like he was chasing the boys - and Jay wasnt exactly crawling along this curvy road either 😂
“Please respect the Break in Period” .... Jay 💨
I thought that was funny and at the same time kind of ballsy. You bring your car to Jay Leno to test drive and brag about how light and fast it is, and then tell Jay to be gentle with it. Really? I thought Jay was gracious when told that and deflected a bit and brought up how some cars have a limp mode for a stipulated set of miles. Jay is a gentleman.
“Charge you a lot of money for stupid things”
Porsche’s business model in a nutshell.
Ferrari are much worse !
To be fair, they also charge you a lot for very helpful things you might expect to be included.
@@LynGriffiths70 Much much worse. Money aside I'll take a Porsche over a Ferrari or just about any other make. Porsche engineering is brilliant
Porsches are the dream cars for those who can afford them.
Harley also suscribes to this model, except to an extreme.
It’s amazing how little Spike knows about his car.
for example, on what issue?
The world has enough “experts.”
Just read these “replies.”
The owners own, the prosers write…..

@4:40 Jay accidentally says "Porsche GT", but we all know he meant Ford. In his defense, he also owns a Porsche Carrera GT.🙂
Jay always looks like he's trying to see over the hood when driving 😂
No screaming 9k redline?! That car transforms from 8k to 9k rpm - shame we didnt get your reaction. ❤
What a beautiful car.
I’ve been waiting for this one, great to see Jay and Spike. Plan Z GT4RS looks awesome.
"Our friend from New York" is a great nickname.
Jay used to show up at the Rock Store. Just a regular dude, a really nice guy.
Spike: “Respect the break in period.”
Jay: “What break in period?” Respectfully ignores the break in period.
Jay Leno is a genius. He makes money doing what he likes. Retired, now on RUclips and still get paid driving other people's cars!
Love the comment about pickle ball! “We don’t even talk about pickle ball. It’s not even a sport, it’s a cruise ship game”
It’s absolutely amazing that it took 60 years for them to finally put the engine where physics and engineers have said it should be ! With the engineering that’s gone into porche chassis development it must be totally wonderful to drive !
30 years. The Boxer came out in1993
@@Taugtaug Or, 5 years, since the 550 came out in 1953!
Is it just me or is Spike coming across as not wanting to have Jay drive his ride? lol jay you are the true car connoisseur, spike I’m a fan of that cayman never considered anything less than a 911 until seeing this episode
No one caught Jay saying “2017 Porsche GT” when he meant Ford GT at 4:40
More likely it’s such an obvious slip of the tongue that no one apart from yourself cared enough to comment on it…
That GT4 sounds incredible
I love Jay Leno and his down-to-earth attitude that he has even when he's in a car that costs a million. By the way, Americans have the same problem with "ch", for example as in Weissach, as German speakers have with "th". 😂
that precision and sound Jay is talking about can be attributed to Porsche PDK.
Jay's looking a little trimmer these days. 👍
Oslo Blue looks great on the GT4 RS
I wish most of the video was just Jay on his own. Would make this more watchable for me tbh.
Yeah, Spike is usually lacking humility.
