@loriday9625 I had to replace the first run of this video because it was freezing up and then I could not reply to your comment LOL. The airbnb link has also been added in the description now!! Thank you for watching. We were just up the hill from old town on Rua de Santa Amaro (near the cemetery). Hope this helps!! It was a great Airbnb and the hosts were amazing too!!
Your video popped up in my feed, so you’re doing great with the RUclips algorithm! I love seeing you do what we hope to do. I’d love to see a video providing additional context and background. What did you do for work in Canada? Where are you from in Canada? What was your thought process for winters abroad but van life in summer? How old were each of you when you retired? How long do you plan on traveling like this? What are you doing for healthcare? Thanks for sharing!
It's great to know that we are doing something right!! LOL. We are thrilled to find that so many people want to life some version of this life and we definitely hope to add insight and inspiration. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and ask all of your questions. I think we do need a whole other video in order to answer them all!! Thank you so much for watching!! Cheers! 🥂
I just recently found your videos, love them. We’re in a very similar situation as you guys. About to start our travels in April. Retiring at 54 & 56 to travel the world. We’re from Sydney Australia. Our budget is around 5-6k AUD a month which is comparable to Canadian dollars. Glad to hear from your breakdowns we should be able to be fairly comfortable with that budget. We’re starting in Italy for a month then to Portugal and Spain followed by Turkey. Never know our paths may cross sometime and we’ll catch up for a wine or cuppa. Happy travels guys and thanks again for sharing your trip ❤️
That is so exciting for you guys!! We love hearing that others are taking the leap! April is coming fast! Turkey is definitely on our list - it looks amazing!! You will be quite comfortable in Spain and Portugal for sure. (Spoiler alert - we are headed to SE Asia next LOL). I do hope our paths cross at some point so we can share tales and a lovely glass of wine. Best of luck to you as you hit the crunch time. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!
Looking forward to your SE Asia videos too…that’s our second 6 month block starting in Japan then SE Asia. Yes it’s coming up so fast, we’re madly selling and donating our stuff, one car sold one to go. It’s been a huge job over the last 12 months or so but almost there now.
@@annetterobinson3213 OMG you are in the home stretch. It is the most chaotic part and reading this, brings us back to those last months when things get so crazy! You guys have got this!! It is a HUGE job, but the end result is so fantastic. It already feels like forever ago when we were in the thick of it and it is crazy to think that it was only a few months ago! LOL
Thanks for the video, very informative. Like you we have just started our retirement journey in similar fashion. During covid we purchased a 35ft travel trailer that sets a the largest lake in New Brunswick Canada on a park close to family and friends that's open from May 1st to November 1st. Our first trip has been exploring Argentina which I believe with the exception of possibly SE Asia is the best value country there is. We eat out for dinner 80% of the time and remain well Under this years $4000 budget. The airbnb looked amazing. We definitely are planning on fitting Spain and Portugal in at some point. I just watched your DaNang video we loved Vietnam but never got to DaNang it definitely needs to be on our list. Safe travels...PS love the Canadian currency conversions...Cheers from two new subscribers
Thank you fellow Canadians!! We are actually planning a trip out east in the summer as we have family in Nova Scotia and also heading to Newfoundland! We loved Da Nang and planning on going back as there were many things we didn't have time to do! If you are curious about South East Asia, that is were we will be after out Vietnam series! Cheers!
AW thank you so much guys!! We love watching your videos, you give us inspiration of where we want to travel in the future! Galapagos and Krueger Park looked amazing. Thank you for watching!!
We just found this channel. Love it. Heading to Lagos in April. Thanks for all the useful info. You are both fabulous. Great online presence - love the strait talk. Yvonne & Paul, Halifax, NS
Yay!! So happy you found us and that you enjoy the content. Lagos is soooo amazing! You will love it!! Thank you so much for your kind feedback ❤️. Love when fellow Canadians are following along. We will be in Halifax this summer (Jan’s parents have a place an hour from there)…. Maybe have a drink at Salty’s (or your fave place you can introduce us to!!!). Thank you for watching. Take care!!
Hi There, What a lovely AirBnB. I appreciated your expense breakdown. I was REALLY lucky. I rented a T3 semi-detached from a friend for $500 USD/month (so at the the $750 CAD) and I was able to use her car. She was from NZ and went back there for her summer (our winter). Sadly she sold the house in 2021. I would have bought it if I could... it was bigger than I need but it was perfect. I think I paid €20/month for a really decent sim and plan, with Vodafone. I'm sure it's double that now, but compared to cell phone prices in Canada... it was nothing, and I'm sure you felt the same with what you paid for your 2 phones. In fact, I haven't had a Canadian cell number since about 2016. I pay $40 USD for a terrific pay as you go plan with AT&T and unlimited calls and texts in Canada, US & Mexico. It's roughly $60 CAD/month and when I was in Europe I just used my Magicjack to call back to Canada or the US (my daughter lives in the US). As you know, prices and cost of living in Canada has pretty much tripled (if not quadrupled) and even though things have increased a great deal in Portugal, it is still much less expensive than in Canada. Great video, thanks for you for sharing your experiences :)
Thank you so much!! WOW! You got an amazing price for rent!! (and car rental LOL) Yes, one of us started with Holafly before arriving and we looked into Vodafone when we arrived, but it wasn't much cheaper and we got less LOL. The groceries and eating out here is definitely about a half to two thirds of CAD prices. When we were looking to stay longer term, we really wanted to know exactly what "cheaper" meant, so that is why we do the indepth videos. We figured that we cannot be the only ones!! We are so happy that you found us!! Hope you enjoy following us along. We have moved onto Spain - that will be the next video we put out. Cheers Jen!! 🥂
Where in Canada are you from? My wife and i spent 2 weeks in Portugal in 2019 and absolutely loved it! We retired last year and plan on spending March 2025 in the Albufeira area. We're in Nova Scotia, btw.
Amazing!! We are from the Ottawa area. We have parents in Nova Scotia (Chester area) and have a big trip planned to Nfld/NS this summer! We may see you back in Portugal - we loved it as well and may head back next winter!! Thanks for watching and congratulations on the retirement!!
@matdob7677 It is all fixed now!! I am so sorry, I accidentally removed your comment by accident when I went to respond to it. Wow, these growing pains are hitting hard on this video! LOL. New link should work! Cheers!
@@mitchandjan no worries, glad you got it working. Shame it's booked solid throughout April (we seem to have the same taste in lodging... and wine! 😜) You'd recommend this part of the city for an Airbnb though, right?
We absolutely would. There was some nice looking buildings in the block or so around us for sure. The marina area seems to be the most swanky, but we really enjoyed our neighbourhood. Quiet, local, but so close to everything (grocery shopping, old town, marina...everything). Also clean and not super touristy. We would have enjoyed old town as well, however we really enjoy a good patio space and those older buildings mostly have a romantic wee patio, but not enough space to hang out on LOL. We walked around the city in many areas and really didn't find many "icky" places to be honest. Its a clean, nice sized city. thats too bad it booked for when you want to go!!
