Silves is a hidden gem. Calm, peaceful, quiet, we live a few kilometres outside the town. Lovely castle, cathedral, quaint side streets, super weekend food market...couldn't be happier...perfect if you're after a more rural lifestyle ten minutes inland from the coast...
Hello .. thank you for reminding me of the Algarve, where I lived from 1987 to 2004. .We left Algarve in 2004, when we relocated to Madeira. I am still living in Madeira, and at the age of 80 , will not be moving away. So, almost 35 years . Thanks for all the memories. ❤️ Valerie Farrington.
I moved to North learning about the south with hope to move one day,for warmer weather. I like how you are humble and not egoistic in your presentation which is rare for RUclips. Thank you!
Great informational video. This was incredibly helpful. I love Algarve. I am Portuguese. Born in Portugal and immigrated to the United States. I plan on moving back to Portugal someday.
Wow. This video was so awesome. I'm American, my wife is South African/Portuguese with some family still in cape town. We are moving to Portugal from Atlanta, Georgia USA within a year. This vid was perfect. Thank you.
Mate I just loved your video, I am from Chile, but I lived in London England, Brisbane Australia and now living in Dubai and everything you say makes so much sense to me, I am so bored in Dubai, only malls everywhere, but that place in your video with all the history, diversity and genuine people and culture just makes me want to move there right now, I´ll keep watching your channel mate, cheers!!
Thanks for these videos, Nick! I love how it feels like we just met you in a bar and we asked what it is like to live there. So natural and conversational.
Excellent narration nick with perfect explanations of how wonderful the whole algarve is , after 40 years experience of all these areas we can assure people this is the very best video they could watch, well done.
Bom dia Nick, being here for 20 years now too I really enjoyed your well presented overview of this stunning place packed with these kind of information only a local could give. Thank you very much for this, muito obrigada x
Algarve Addicts ... this is great! Thanks you! My sister and family live near Castro Marim, they moved from the U.K. over 21 years ago now and love It, they have land too so grow most of their fruit and veg. Dad bought a small place in Monte Gordo for his holidays as he loves the beach and sun, but I mush prefer Vila for its atmosphere, architecture and somehow more traditional vibe.
I love the Algarve, went there on holidays every summer on a road trip with my family. but Lisbon will always be the place for me. Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra were all the places I grew up in and in my opinion are the best places to live.
I'm glad the video helped. Yup, avoid Praia da Rocha and Albufeira then, but do head over there for a look see. They can be fun places to have a good night in (in summer).
As a portuguese , npw 60 yo, who saw the algarve since I spent there my holydays with my grand parents, in Cabanas de Tavira, well, what can I say agter travalling all over the world: it's still my favoutite place, the smell and the air... unique :) Do ty for your magnifique sigh seeing :)
Thank you for the very informative and interesting video. I fell in love with Portugal a few years ago on a trip to Portugal and Spain. We flew into Lisbon and after a few days rented a car for a drive to Evora. After a two night stay we drove to Lagos where we had a wonderful stay exploring the beautiful coast. I got hooked on Portuguese Wine and the food we had in all areas was some of the best we have eaten in all of our European trips. I often thought The Algarve would be an amazing place for retirement.
Im a portuguese expat living in Europe and I've just come across your vids a few days ago. I have to say this is probably the most comprehensive, authentic, interesting, fun to watch yet rigorous video I've seen about the Algarve. You've made me start thiking about relocating back to Portugal, who knows, even to the Algarve - who knows - although being originaly from Porto i enjoy a bit of cold, rainy days and mountains nearby (not that we have many in Portugal that you can call true mountains). You're probably the best advocate for Algarve tourism and economy right now. Loved the SA accent, btw. Take care. Looking fwd to check out some of your other vids. 👍😉
Thank you so much, Nick, for a wonderful tour of the Algarve from Albufeira to Lagos! You were a terrific guide and you are SO full of useful knowledge. Cheers to you and your assistance. You certainly "know your stuff"!
Hi Nick, fellow South African and new subscriber here, so good to hear a familiar accent! ❤️ We’re considering retiring to the Algarve so your channel is just what we need. Looking forward to watching a lot more of your helpful information!
Hey, Nick thank you so very much for your super informative videos. Keep up the good work, Thanks a million for keeping it real and authentic. Dario, 🇨🇦
Thanks, Nick, It was good to see again all the great places that we have visited over the years and be reminded of, what a wonderful region the Algarve really is. Looking forward to seeing more of your in-depth videos on the places of interest. Keep up the good work.
Anywhere and everywhere is great if it's in algarve! I found a great cheap beautiful property in alcantarilha! It's quite near the beach but not in the middle of the chaotic housing by the beach!
Such a useful video. It’s helped us come up with a short list of potential places to settle. We’re moving to PT without a preTrip so couldn’t do it without this kind of info. Thanks!
Hi Nick, just met you and it was a pleasure...I really enjoyed your version of showing the Algarve and I'll be watching all your videos in hope of finding my future place. Thank you!
From first hand experience, people must come and try it first! Don’t sell up and then become disappointed later down the line. The winters here are so boring and it’s not all what it’s cracked up to be. I’m 30 and have lived here for 10 years.
So true, have a look at Portimão Digital Nomads and the LOFT Digital Nomad's (Loulé, Olhão, Faro, Tavira). Plus there's a group in Albufeira and Lagos and they're always doing something fun.
Hi Nick, the family and I are moving to the Algarve soon. We have already done loads of research, but this video was extremely informative and helpful. Thank you very much!
I enjoyed your overview of the Algarve a great deal, particularly because you speak from long experience. Some RUclipsrs who post videos of Portugal are newbies to the country. In comparison, you’ve had time to explore the Algarve in depth. I found your commentary enlightening and helpful. Thank you.
I really like your video...adult one.... deep inside, easily to understand . go that way. Wonderful...Continue on Algarve and maybe more about Sagres 45 years ago........Serious info .
Hi and thanks for an interesting video, living in the Algarve for the last few years and now stuck in the uk watching the grey sky and rain it has cheered me up. Ameixial on the N2 and surrounding area might make a good video when COVID goes away. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you so much for the great information. I loved how you have a slide show of every place that you spoke of. It gave me an idea of what that place looks like. You gave great explanations of each place. Sailing, tours walking, fishing partying, shops. I loved this video obrigada 😁
Hi Nick, this was the most useful video about Algarve I have seen so far. II heave plans to buy an apartment in Algarve once this virus situation is over. I'm an American citizen and as you know Portugal borders rare closed for American tourists . I'll get in touch when I'm ready to go. Thank you very much for taking the time to tell us all absolutely it the little cities in the Algarve.
Super charming walk through of the Algarve. Thanks so much. We were fortunate enough to be in the Algarve in January just before lock down. We'll definitely return to Portugal, our favourite of the many countries and continents to which we've travelled in the past ten years. Portugal is an affordable retirement refuge from countries like mine (Canada) that are rapidly becoming too expensive in which to grow old.
Excellent video. Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I'm looking at the D7 Visa and researching various places in Portugal. Your knowledge and insight was super helpful. 🙏
What an awesome video from a fellow SAFFA! You are definitely cementing my decision to move. I just need to find out what my job options are now lol.. Thanks again Nick! Keep on posting!
It would be beneficial if you relocate to Algarve under a foreign contract. This usually pays better. Minimum wage in Portugal for Portuguese is 705 euros per month. A nurse makes about 1200 per month. Don't know what you do for a living, so, do your research. Best of luck.
Im so glad I found your channel! Thank you so much for this video. I'm hoping to move to Portugal this year. I was pretty much set on the Algarve because of the weather, but I wasn't sure where to begin to look. Your video has really helped me narrow down my choices. Thanks again!
Lekker video! You made the best video of the Algarve, it's a perfect overview of the region. Thank you very much, I should be there in about 5 weeks to check out some of the towns on your list. Greetings from beautiful Scarborough /Cape Town.
Hi Nick! Great to see new videos from Algarve Addicts. This is a terrific video and and most helpful and timely for our plans. Your passion for the Algarve is fantastic. Thanks for all you do to provide us with so much great info. Look forward to joining you on a SUP adventure in 2021! Cheers~~ Todd
I will say u have done an amazing job with this video. I used to live in Portugal in Entroncamento back in the 90’s but first lived in Quarteira for a couple of years. After 18 years I finally came back to Algarve a few months ago and I’m actually thinking of moving back. Ur video really helps me narrow down where I should settle down especially since I’m alone and won’t really know anyone. Can’t wait to watch more of ur videos😃
Loved the video mate. We are planning to relocate after my daughter matriculates next year. Looking forward to it and loved you video on this area. Thanks a lot. Also from Cape town so good to hear its as good as Cape Town. Can't possibly be better :)
Thank you very much for your informative video about the Algarve area. My wife and I have been thinking of living in Portugal. However, our main focus is on the Azores as they offers a more quiet and removed
Such a pleasant voice you have, as you describe all the towns along the Algarve. You made them all seem appealing for various reasons, so I can tell you love the entire Algarve. Your Portuguese pronunciation was very good, as it is not the easiest language to pick up, for someone whose native tongue is English. I would be interested to see other videos you have done. Thank you, Nick!
Thanks Jim, that's good of you to say. Subscribe to my channel, there are quite a few on here and I'm planning more as I'm rather surprised how well these few went.
@@AlgarveAddicts I did subscribe, Nick, and watched one other video about how you moved to Portugal 20 years ago. I have communicated with a couple friends in Lisbon, and researched some of the Portuguese history, so am very interested in this beautiful country (I would also love to see your native city of Cape Town, RSA, which appears to be one of the 5 most beautiful in the world!). I look forward to viewing other videos on Algarve Addicts. Obrigado!
@@AlgarveAddicts yes we have about 8 wine farms next to Durbanville town. Very beautiful. We are looking to move to Portugal. Just started to do research. Your videos are very informative. Thanks Nick!
Great video. Keep it the way you are doing it, informative, nitty gritty, boots on the ground. No need for 4k drone videos or videos about dinners like many of those other vloggers do, that is just tiring to watch. Thanks and best of luck !
Hi Nick. amazing and wonderful idea to share our region to the world. I would like to ask you something that sometimes goes around my mind like I want to know the portuguese people reviews ;). The Portuguese people are, probably like others, easy to deal with. Even when they don't speak your language you will take what you are looking for. In my point of view and I think with the people I know is the same, doesn't matter if you are white, black, red, blue, tall or small. What matters is if we can trust each other and have a good time chatting, drinking and eating (everything can be solved at the restaurant table). So, my question is: Algarve is a dream place to be living in but, what about the people? What you think about the people what can you expect from them, the food, the weather? Please give me a honest answer ! Keep this fantastic work. Algarve is known because of people like you, Passionate! "Stay well" ;)
Thanks for your comment Bruno. I guess the proof is in the pudding! I married a wonderful Portuguese girl and have a 100% Portuguese daughter and tons of fun and helpful Portuguese friends. The short answer is the locals are great here! It might be an interesting but difficult topic to address on a video.
Hi Nick Great video Nick, thank you. I Plan on relocating/retiring to Algarve ,ex Rhodesian, living in South Africa, late husband was Portuguese. Given our weak rand , where in the Algarve is the cheapest to live. Have traveled to Portugal for many years, mainly to Cascais and up North to Miranda do douro. I have only been to Algarve a few times, mainly for work in the travel industry, so don’t know it well . Thank you Faith
Nick, we DO have verification on the Pink Flamingo question. Several locals here in Olhao have confirmed that the flock in the salt ponds here in the RIA Formosa are indeed the real McCoy. Best early morning walk ever!
I was born and raised in Portimao and this is a really good guide. I always had the same view as yourself of Albufeira, it's excellent for parties though. One place I really love is Alvor (part of Portimao), it's a gorgeous village vibe, nice restaurants and you get both river and sea. If I was to get back to Portugal I think that's where I would go. I totally agree with Faro! It has changed quite a lot over the years and it's a great place to live now. Oh gosh I'm really missing Algarve right now (especially as I have been in the UK for more than 10 years)
We were looking at places to move to from Ireland. My wife and I are both South Africans. We were looking at the Azores etc but I think the Algarve is probably the area we will move to in the next year or so. I also like playing golf so looks like a great place. Thanks for the awesome video!

I want to move to Portugal permanently...
I'd suggest you make a list and do your best to make it happen. Good luck!
Very good description of the Algarve! Thank you! I am portuguese, born in Portimão. Loved your movie! Keep going and good luck

I love the Algarve, went there on holidays every summer on a road trip with my family. but Lisbon will always be the place for me. Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra were all the places I grew up in and in my opinion are the best places to live.
Yup, the Lisbon area is a special place. So much going on up there!
I've been looking at places to visit up north as well and Sintra, Cascais, Óbidos and Lisboa look beautiful and well worth a visit.
Really useful. As a Brit I’m particularly keen to avoid to loud, obnoxious variety.
I'm glad the video helped. Yup, avoid Praia da Rocha and Albufeira then, but do head over there for a look see. They can be fun places to have a good night in (in summer).
Algarve is obnoxious as it gets in the summer

Hi Stephanie, yes I am sure the Azores is much quieter. I'm looking forward to getting over there some day.
Many quiet places in the mainland too.
Obrigado!
Lagos by far is the best place of algarve, it is almost heaven.
@seven52nine 😨😂😂😂
Thank you! Visiting for the first time in September with my best friend, so not moving (yet) but very informative! Merci!
De nada! 👍🏼
Hi Nick, we are from Durbanville Capetown and looking at Portugal. Great video!
Thanks guys! Durbanville, aah is that wine farm still on the hill there? I can't recall the name, near Tygervalley I think...
@@AlgarveAddicts yes we have about 8 wine farms next to Durbanville town. Very beautiful. We are looking to move to Portugal. Just started to do research. Your videos are very informative. Thanks Nick!
You're welcome 👍🏼
Really Great Video! Saving this One! Thank You!
Thanks Cheryl. You're welcome and thanks for watching 👍🏼
When I came to live here thirty years ago, whatever you needed you just headed for the 125 road and drive along there and you would find it,

Great work. I am portuguse but I also lived in South Africa, in the Transval, now i live in center of portugal.
Excellent, Carlos, I hope you enjoy it up there in the center? Do you follow OK Portugal?
Very Informative, we are going in January, so we appreciate the info, great video.
Thanks, I hope you enjoy your trip here.
Thanks Nick for the introduction to the Algarve.
No problem, Sandy! Any time :)
Great video! Thank you for the information, my family and I are hoping to be in Faro in 2021.
Thanks Edward, good luck for your visit. Let me know if you have any questions.
Such a great video!! Thank you for all the information provided. I follow you and Ken and dreaming to visiting Portugal.
You're welcome Edna. Yeah Ken is great, isn't he?
Great video. Keep it the way you are doing it, informative, nitty gritty, boots on the ground. No need for 4k drone videos or videos about dinners like many of those other vloggers do, that is just tiring to watch. Thanks and best of luck !
Hehehe, I love it Olli! :))
Great video- gives me a starting point to explore
It's a fun journey, enjoy the exploration!
You should do voice over work.
I could listen to you read the phone book.
Hahaha, thanks Mitch!
@@AlgarveAddicts It's true you have a good voice for radio, podcasts.
Thanks 👍🏼
I wonder 🤣
As a SAffa about to travel in Portugal for a bit thanks for the video!
You're welcome. There are tons more on my channel. 👍🏼
Thanks Nick! Clear English 👌👌
“Proper good stuff!” Thank you man!
You're welcome!
Hi Nick. amazing and wonderful idea to share our region to the world.
So, my question is:
Algarve is a dream place to be living in but, what about the people? What you think about the people what can you expect from them, the food, the weather? Please give me a honest answer ! Keep this fantastic work. Algarve is known because of people like you, Passionate!
"Stay well" ;)
Thanks for your comment Bruno. I guess the proof is in the pudding! I married a wonderful Portuguese girl and have a 100% Portuguese daughter and tons of fun and helpful Portuguese friends. The short answer is the locals are great here! It might be an interesting but difficult topic to address on a video.
Hi Nick
Great video Nick, thank you.
@@faithpires4221 Hi Faith, it's best we chat about it one on one - drop me an email nick@algarveaddicts.com
Nick, we DO have verification on the Pink Flamingo question. Several locals here in Olhao have confirmed that the flock in the salt ponds here in the RIA Formosa are indeed the real McCoy. Best early morning walk ever!
Brilliant stuff, Hank. 👌🏼
Great overview!
Thanks for that!
Thanks for the info.
You're welcome 👍🏼
I was born and raised in Portimao and this is a really good guide. I always had the same view as yourself of Albufeira, it's excellent for parties though. One place I really love is Alvor (part of Portimao), it's a gorgeous village vibe, nice restaurants and you get both river and sea. If I was to get back to Portugal I think that's where I would go. I totally agree with Faro! It has changed quite a lot over the years and it's a great place to live now. Oh gosh I'm really missing Algarve right now (especially as I have been in the UK for more than 10 years)
Thanks I will definitely do a more detailed video on Portimão in the future.
We were looking at places to move to from Ireland. My wife and I are both South Africans. We were looking at the Azores etc but I think the Algarve is probably the area we will move to in the next year or so. I also like playing golf so looks like a great place. Thanks for the awesome video!
You're welcome. Let us know if you need any help on your journey www.algarveaddicts.com
