he could of still starred in horror movies, while it may be degrading there's a few disabled actors who flourished in horror due to their looks and that would of meant a lot to him as one of his big psychological things was being a horror star for his father.
@@StickySauce101 Yeah, he would likely have had a bunch of walk-on "Creature of the week" roles on TV shows, and done some cameo monster suitwork for a bit before getting back to being the lead monster in the next universal studios monster movie. but his career could have recovered. one of the best horror films of the black and white "talkies" era is arguably Tod Browning's "Freaks", with a cast that is like 75% deformed professional circus freakshow acts. for many of them it wasn't their only role. the dwarf that played "Hans", Harry Earles, was also one of the representatives of the lollipop guild in "The Wizard of Oz", with the woman who played his dwarf wife "Frieda" in Freaks(his sister Daisy) as well as 2 of their other siblings playing various Munchkins in the "Munchkinland" and "follow the yellow brick road" scenes. Johnny Eck, the "amazing half-boy" seen in Freaks, got film roles doing suitwork for creature fx, most notably he was the "Gooney Birds" in 3 tarzan films, Tarzan the Ape Man, Tarzan Escapes, and Tarzan's Secret Treasure. he also worked as a magician's assistant for a magician named Rajah Raboid with his "Normal" fraternal twin brother Robert around 1937, and they had the absolute best "sawing a person in half" illusion, since they could swap Robert for Johnny and a dwarf actor dressed as Johnny's legs, and then have the legs jump out of the box and run around the stage, prompting Johnny to climb out of the box and run after his legs on his hands after the illusion for shock value. perfection. Michael Berryman, the actor best known for playing Pluto in the original "The Hills have Eyes" 1 & 2, wasn't using prosthetic fx makeup in that role, he actually looks like that due to a genetic disorder called hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, and he's had a very prolific career, playing in films such as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Weird Science", "Star Trek IV", "Star trek V", "The Guyver", "The Crow"(deleted scene), "The Devil's Rejects", "Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster", as well as TV shows like "Star Trek:The Next Generation", "X-Files", and "Tales from the Crypt". i've always wanted to see him in the lead role in a "Nosferatu" remake, i think he'd absolutely kill it in that role.
And even if he did make a better choice with his life, I expect that Gotham, being the instant killer of happiness, peace, and even sanity, would put him in some incident that would drive Basil to villiany such as being messed with in the head by the joker or something.
@@andrewramlall3560 Freak shows were a good deal for the "Freaks" because they'd get food, housing, friends and money...until the public claimed they were being exploited.
I always wondered couldn't clay face just live a normal life? He literally has the ability to transform himself into anyone right? He could just transform back to his old face
I mean, his old face is now the face of a wanted criminal, and the chemical is actively stated to fuck with your brain so probably wouldn't have the same charm as before.
I remember the animated series explained it as when he's shapeshifting he can't maintain it very long. "It's like flexing a muscle. You can hold it for awhile but eventually you have to let go and let it rest" so he could only be normal briefly before becoming Clayface again
The tension between Batman and Clayface is palpable. I recall the animated series had a similar type of tension in an episode where he was no longer able to sustain himself and was falling apart. He found a way to sustain himself but he had to steal it. Batman was a real bastard in that episode and they made it seem like he died as a result. I do hope his utilization in the Pattinson Batman 2 is just as impactful and they have moments such as this. That was a great comic and a powerful story, particularly the part between father and son.
I remember the original clay face comic was Basil Karlo murdering the actors working on a remake of “The Curse of Clayface”. It was more of an “old man going insane because he thinks he’s going to be relegated to obscurity” type of thing. But this version is just sad all around. Poor guy drove himself nuts trying to fix his life.
funny thing is the Basil Karlo clayface is based on horror Icons Lon Chaney Sr(the "Man of a thousand faces" who played in the original phantom of the opera), Boris Karloff(frankensteins monster/the mummy), and Basil Rathbone(Sherlock Holmes), but the story you reference is very similar to the plot of a later Vincent Price film(Theatre of Blood, 1973.) in which Price plays a traditional shakespearean actor that gets absolutely ripped to shreds by critics for being stale and gets mocked at an award ceremony, later faking his death to murder all the critics who ruined his career by killing them one by one in ways very similar to murder scenes in the season of William Shakespeare's plays that he last performed. Before each murder, he recites the critic's damning review of his performance in the role. this was Vincent's personal favorite role of his career. he really enjoyed the catharsis of basically playing himself and murdering judgmental theatre/film critics, lol. i've always wondered if the film-makers read the comic(Detective Comics #40, if anyone wants to read it)and that's where the inspiration came from. so yeah Basil Karlo is literally an entire Halloween horror movie marathon rolled into one man.
If they lean into clayfaces ability to near perfectly shapeshift and mimic people the potential is unlimited, they could do a whole thing about identity if they introduced hush and clay face as the villains for the sequel. The idea of looking at someone and not knowing if they are indeed who they're saying they are is a horror that has so much potential, almost lovecraftian in nature.
Clayface pretending to be Batman while Hush pretends to be Bruce Wayne would be awesome to see. Ruin Bruce's reputation so much that he can't be safe no matter which identity he tries to use to hide
I really like how his (ex) girlfriend was actually supportive him even after he turned. And even when fully a monster, she still tried to talk to him... But he was still too far gone to realize that she still cared, he really threw everything away because he thought it was too late and just ended up making things worse didn't give himself a second chance or 3rd when those chances might've been right there...
So his girlfriend comforted him in his time of need and panic, stayed with him until HE broke up with her. Only because he didn't like the fact that she saw his real face, not because she said anything about it. Not only that but once he shows up as clayface, a true and honest monster, what does he do to repay her? He throws chemicals is her face, disfiguring her. Showing that not only did he not value her as a person, but she was also nothing more than arm candy to be replaced. Imagine if it was her who got disfigured in a reck like that. It's hard to feel bad for him, ngl.
This whole thing gives me Ezra Miller flash backs. If that loon can walk after all he did Basil would have been off the hook for a few B&Es in like two seconds
don't even get me started on Ezra. idk what irks me more; what he did, the fact the suits are willing to abide in the name of profit, or the fact that society has such collective apathy and short term memory that the audience is ALSO going to abide and the new flash film will see NO negative consequence as a result. i hate people.

I love this story! I’ve been saying Scarecrow and Clayface would be the perfect villains for the Batman sequel. Crane could even be the one whom experimented on Clayface: - One looks like a monster but is a tragic victim. Fear wouldn’t cut it, Hope would be needed. - The other looks like a weak human but it is a true monster and masters the tool Batman once relied on. Fear would be useless and there’d be no hope.
Wow this is probably one of the most wholesome childhoods of a Batman villian. Like the backstory is sad like you'd expect but a supportive dad who was happy his son was interested in his work is surprising.
He really is one of the most underutilized villains despite having the most versatility. He's crazy like The Joker, highly charismatic, vastly superhuman, has a healing factor better than Wolverine's, and has multiple exploitable weaknesses that would still allow someone like Batman to beat him. If Clayface had both the intelligence and ambition. He could EASILY be a main antagonist instead of just hired help. Clayface has the potential to be a far more dangerous Hush.
The fact that batman didn't actually investigate the reason why the one man was stealing the same chemical and instead just assaulted him is pretty hilarious and on par for batman. Yeah he's the world's greatest detective, WHEN and IF he even bothers to investigate at all lmfao

He had a very sweet niece and uncle type relationship with Cassandra Caine and was THIS close to showing people you CAN love a monster
Batman was in the wrong here, you don't just menacingly approach someone in severe trauma and threaten them to "get better" then leave without even offering help, Bruce should know more than anyone about this.. he should of offered therapy, paid for plastic surgery and secured some sort of employment or benefit system for the dude but instead he basically ensured Clayface would have a psychotic breakdown by denying him any help and expecting a deeply troubled person to do it all themselves.
Man... Nobody in Clay face's life has any sense of timing. A quick "hey Basil are you driving? You might want to pull over buddy" or maybe don't tell him his career is over the second he regains consciousness. But seriously as soon as he can transform into literally anyone or anything he should realize he is the luckiest person in the world.
Facts and since it was discontinued what else could he do? It was not in stores to buy anyway Batman just punching him without even asking was a jerk move dude was unarmed
clayface, when written well, can be amazing. my first "oh snap, i'm straight up sleepin' on this fool" moment with clayface was the new batman adventures episode called "Growing pains", in which a separated chunk of clayface he sent out as a scout disguised as a young girl gains sentience/independence and has no memory of what she is, and robin tries to save/protect her, but ultimately she gets reabsorbed by clayface. before this episode clayface is just a mid level criminal, a thief, hired muscle, etc., but after this, as far as Tim Drake is concerned, Clayface just committed murder.
As someone with full body eczema (possibly undergoing *Topical Steroid Withdrawal* ), the segment discussing the long-term damage of cosmetic products hit deep.
I think for The Batman II we could possibly see elements from this story for Clayface. Roman Sionis could easily be involved with this given his origin fits very well.
Not going to lie, I completely understand why Basil did what he did. If I had to look at such a face in the mirror I probably would have done the exact same things as well.

You're telling me Basil auditioned to be in a movie that was basically about the original Basil story? Amazing. No notes. Also, I loved this newer take on Clayface. His tragic origin, road to redemption, his friendship with Cass, and his camaraderie with the Bat-Family, I loved it all. I hate that it got reset. At least Man-Bat is still good (at least, last I checked).
Some are angry at the lawyer, but I'm personally angry at the director. She went to a man that was at his weakest possible moment and chose to psychologically beat them up. Such a deconstruction only serves to put the speaker to be higher than the listener. And I don't think that was her intent despite only seeing a few lines from her. A far better option would have been to keep him in the show despite his criminal allegations his story would only Elevate the story she was trying to tell. This from the few lines she had about what the show even was about. Might have prevented Clayface from ever existing. TLDR; I'm angry at the directors mightier than tho speech. Felt it had a bigger detriment to his health then his lawyers few lines.
what would of been a great twist is if after clayface splashed his girlfriend nothing much happens proving that clayface did have a choice and that not everybody is a monster
@@Angelmunoz_19 the comic doesn't show her again. it cuts to the flashback of basil and his dad watching The Wolfman immediately after she gets hit with the chemical, and that flashback is where the story ends. i don't know if any other comic circles back to that, but this story doesn't. EDIT: did some digging for you. so the next time we see her, she's turned into "Mudface", the chemicals gave her the powers of Clayface but none of his control. she joins the Victim Syndicate, a group of people who's lives were ruined by getting caught in the crossfire between batman and his villains. she blames batman, not clayface, for her situation. here's a pic of her: static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/2/2d/Glory_Griffin_%28Prime_Earth%29_0001.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161109180558
I still like the version from The Batman animated show from the early 2000s the most. In that version he is Bruce's childhood friend Detective Ethan Bennet, who is tragically transformed after exposure to Joker Putty after some psychological torture and a rough couple of days being pushed around by his boss. He shambles around as a roiling mass of clay, begging for help as he cannot yet control it, everyone screams and treats him like a monster, the police he once considered friends going out of their way to flush him into the sewers with fire hoses. All of which makes him a much more tragic figure
I like the idea in Batman 2 , we as the audience see this horrific monster attack his victims but never see his face when Batman chases him or whatever then at the end it’s revealed this “horrible disfigurement” is like small scar on his eyebrow that’s driven him mad
Okay, Batman clocking an unarmed dude in the face seems like a dick move to me. I get Basil had a crowbar or something, but that's nothing Batman can't handle. He should have defused the situation without violence, like he so much likes to preach.
i hope that clayface will be the contractor who supplies building materials to rebuild gotham. he works so hard that his face is always smudged with clay, so his coworkers would call him clayface
What I think is so scary about Clayface is that he can become anything or anyone. That means he can mimic a phone , your voice, heck in some stories he can copy your D.N.A. This is why he is one of my favorite villains he can be unpredictable and sly when he has the chance!
yeah. have him use the Renu to change his appearance, use the original origin story as a basis for his criminality and spend the movie having batman dealing with essentially "the thing/invasion of the body snatchers", where literally anyone in the room could be clayface at any time, then end it with the chemical bath, filmed in such a way that if they wanted to try and bring him back as the supernatural shapeshifter later they could, but if they don't think they can pull it off, they can just make that his death scene.
Tbf, Batman could've easily helped Basil, and the harsh tonr for a man suffering so much- that would push most people over the edge, especially the one you know is having his mind warped.
This is basically an adaptation of the animated series' take on tbe character. One of several instances of that show taking old, silly villains and transforming into something great. Mr. Freeze is the most notable example of this.

His girlfriend would probably have eventually left him anyway because of the emotional stress, he absolutely wouldn’t have kept the role in the movie or any movie ever again no matter how hard people would fight for him, he was far beyond the help of plastic surgery, probably unable to secure any form of job, and he would be estranged from society for the rest of his life. People are cruel.
Literally his best public prospect would be as the main attraction of a freak show. I like to think that humanity is good at heart but even I know that society accepting him would be idealistic and naive
he could of still starred in horror movies, while it may be degrading there's a few disabled actors who flourished in horror due to their looks and that would of meant a lot to him as one of his big psychological things was being a horror star for his father.
That's what the Harley quinn cartoon does. Clayface is just a normal guy
Clayface actually has a thriving acting career because being able to change his appearance literally let's him play every role
Because comics.
Babe wake up, a new Mullet-Man comics video just dropped
Lets gooooo
Oh boy KaDoSt, haven’t heard that one before
Mullet Man and Internet Pitstop. The best of RUclips.
Yes dear
@@gourdguru I forgot about Theatre of Blood. I always compared Price's Madhouse to Karlo's first appearance.
Clayface pretending to be Hush could be really scary.
Clayface pretending to be Batman while Hush pretends to be Bruce Wayne would be awesome to see. Ruin Bruce's reputation so much that he can't be safe no matter which identity he tries to use to hide
John Carpenter says hi
That story was sad and relatable damn even made me cry. Poor Basil.
At the time he broke up with her, the chemicals were probably already starting to mess with his brain, so it wasn't really his fault.
You're a sociopath
@@kingofnoobs9728of course it was his fault but I see what you mean.

Listen man Ezra is his own super villain idk what dirt he has on those warner executives but it's powerful
Hehe flash backs
don't even get me started on Ezra. idk what irks me more; what he did, the fact the suits are willing to abide in the name of profit, or the fact that society has such collective apathy and short term memory that the audience is ALSO going to abide and the new flash film will see NO negative consequence as a result.

I love this story!
I’ve been saying Scarecrow and Clayface would be the perfect villains for the Batman sequel. Crane could even be the one whom experimented on Clayface:
- One looks like a monster but is a tragic victim. Fear wouldn’t cut it, Hope would be needed.
- The other looks like a weak human but it is a true monster and masters the tool Batman once relied on. Fear would be useless and there’d be no hope.
Clay face and Mr.freeze are two of my favorite villains that I would love to see in a Batman movie
"hey Batman...STAY COOL!"
apologies. i'll just show myself out.
Wow this is probably one of the most wholesome childhoods of a Batman villian. Like the backstory is sad like you'd expect but a supportive dad who was happy his son was interested in his work is surprising.
I wish more comics had this decent of writing
Clayface is An Underated Batman Villain, But I still Enjoy him😊
He really is one of the most underutilized villains despite having the most versatility.
I really like how this sorry takes element from the animated series Matt Hagan who was a combination of comic book Matt and Basil.
The fact that batman didn't actually investigate the reason why the one man was stealing the same chemical and instead just assaulted him is pretty hilarious and on par for batman. Yeah he's the world's greatest detective, WHEN and IF he even bothers to investigate at all lmfao
Seeing how there was a short time span as Basil was going to steal again the night after, not sure what you expect him to do.

The original Clayface episode in the animated batman cartoon of the early 90s was a bonified classic!
It had some of the best animation you could expect to see in any cartoon
That series was awesome!
I was looking for this comment.
Even in the animated series,Clayface's origin was tragic & the scene at the end of the episode was surreal.
@@muhammadnabil3390 yeh they don't make em like that anymore, and that series was made for kids but it had so much depth it was like watching mini movies. Remember the ventriloquist villain? Brilliant.
@@FightingIsLife Ufff...you just reminded me a wave of episodes of the BAS.
Now that you mention it,indeed, the imagery of the Gotham & the cartoon series as a whole was a bit on the darker side & it was ok at that time for the kids.
Why don’t you show them what an overdose will do, Daggett? Why don’t you tell them about ME!!
Clayface is my favorite villain of all time and possibly favorite dc character in general. He’s so tragic but interesting, I really liked him getting reformation durning detective comics. He had a very sweet niece and uncle type relationship with Cassandra Caine and was THIS close to showing people you CAN love a monster
It’s sad that he didn’t get to prove to his dad that monsters can still be accepted
And that's why you don't use the phone while driving, kids

The facial expressions in this comic are fantastic.
I think the 2 real villains here where the 2 cops… absolutely zero remorse for “killing “ baisol.
That old 2 part episode about Clayface in the old 90's Batman cartoon is still my favorite to this day.
Yeah Batman really did screw this up
He did exactly that for killer croc, but couldn't for clayface, which is very weird
This is what happens when you tell people your there for them when it's too late.
Kinda bizarre how they go from fairly realistic for the batman to supernatural. I wonder how they'll handle it?
crazy that this dude's life got absolutely ruined to of the worst possible degrees just because of his dad's shitty advice
This is such a great story to adapt into the batman 2, if done correctly it'll combine both versions of Clayface and I'd love to see it.
Bro just stole some chemicals from an empty building to fix his face and everyone acted like he killed a bunch of people or something.
Facts and since it was discontinued what else could he do? It was not in stores to buy anyway

@@Randomaccount9470 that's just what Batman's whole characteristic is

It is a really good comedic take on the character.
damn, that’s cool as hell. Definitely a way bigger fan of CF now. Much appreciated
clayface, when written well, can be amazing. my first "oh snap, i'm straight up sleepin' on this fool" moment with clayface was the new batman adventures episode called "Growing pains", in which a separated chunk of clayface he sent out as a scout disguised as a young girl gains sentience/independence and has no memory of what she is, and robin tries to save/protect her, but ultimately she gets reabsorbed by clayface. before this episode clayface is just a mid level criminal, a thief, hired muscle, etc., but after this, as far as Tim Drake is concerned, Clayface just committed murder.
1:22 the way he smiles makes it scary
This is just plain sad.
I have to say, you have skills as a voice actor. 👍
Not going to lie, I completely understand why Basil did what he did.

What I like about this comic is Batman making an effort of trying to stop someone becoming worse rather then just being being about fear.
What I think is so scary about Clayface is that he can become anything or anyone. That means he can mimic a phone , your voice, heck in some stories he can copy your D.N.A. This is why he is one of my favorite villains he can be unpredictable and sly when he has the chance!
that director wasn't willing to work with him because... he stole some skin cream without hurting anyone?
I feel like the powerless basil karlo would be fit well within this noir batman universe
yeah. have him use the Renu to change his appearance, use the original origin story as a basis for his criminality and spend the movie having batman dealing with essentially "the thing/invasion of the body snatchers", where literally anyone in the room could be clayface at any time, then end it with the chemical bath, filmed in such a way that if they wanted to try and bring him back as the supernatural shapeshifter later they could, but if they don't think they can pull it off, they can just make that his death scene.
I dont know, but I kinda can imagine Kevin Bacon as Clayface as well
That is honestly the best origin for clayface
Here's a lesson to everyone: DON'T PUT CHEMICALS ON YOUR FACE
