Ten months ago my second baby was born. He was a bit weird and liked to sleep only on me. Period. Day/night. I ended up staying up every night for 2 months and getting short naps during the day. Somehow one of your videos came up in RUclips suggestions when I was bringing on RUclips/Netflix while holding him for hours. I kept watching and watching your stuff. After he finally agreed to sleep in Snoo I got some paint, acetone, trial pair of Tieks and some other basic stuff for customs. Although I'm going back to school and my hobby will be put on hold I want to thank you for about 25 pairs I did and enjoyed every minute of it. this is the first vid ive watched of yours in a few months, I can definitely tell youve gotten better at the production and presenting part of your videos. Clean video bro
This may be my favorite video of your's and I've watched many! I've collected almost everything you highlighted. I'm doing custom vintage roller skates though, not tennis shoes. I have a collection of 70+ pairs, only the high quality leather ones, mostly Betty Lytle's by Hyde and Riedell. I'm hoping you will give me some pointers on my first few pairs once I'm finished. I'd love to message you the "before" pics. Also if you decide to host a zoom class, I'm for sure gonna sign up.
Idk if it will end up just being another trend that I get ALL into for a little while and then it dies, but as of right now, I'm definitely ALL in to Customizing shoes. I literally can't stop watching videos about it, it's crazy. Only time will tell if I finally found something that will stick....or if it will just end up in the other pile of trends that I was ALL into for a period of time lol. Only reason I even stumbled upon this is because I was looking for things to be passionate about. People always say to follow your passion, do what you love/like, etc, etc.....but its hard when you have no idea what you like or are passionate about. If someone was locked in a room, didn't have anything or anyone, and no access to the outside world.....what good would advice like that do?? Absolutely none! You can't tell someone to do what they love or do what they are passionate about, if they themselves don't even know! That's ultimately the predicament I'm in. Anyways, I started buying a lot of cheap shoes, then I started getting interested into signature shoes, holiday themed shoes, customizing shoes, making shoes, etc. See the trend here?? Shoes! As weird as it seems, I think I may have finally found a passion......with shoes of all things!! As I said before tho, only time will tell. But if so, its just crazy that it took me 30 years to finally find it!!
You are an inspiration to all! Thank you for sharing your knowledge through your amazing channel! I can defs say this channel is better than Neon&Netflix 🤣😂👌🏽 can’t wait to kick off and get my feet in the water! Arohanui from New Zealand!

@@DeJesusCustomFootwear and this is after sanding/using acetone and before the first coat of paint? Probably a stupid question but I just want to make sure that’s the only time I should use it.

Thanks for all your tips and tricks. I liked the toothpick idea but my hands are too big to hold them, I kept breaking them. So I started using wooden kabob sticks.
Love the video very educational in detail what materials to use. Though Was wondering could you make a video making the paint to be airbrush ready with the ratio to paint and 2 thin ?
Electrical tape seems to work better for me. It’s more elastic and and seals better when creating sharp lines. Also a little more adhesive with out damaging fabrics, imo.
Hey! Just had a quick question. In all of your videos so far I have never seen what air pump you use for your brush. Does it matter or is there one you prefer? Also was talking with my buddy the other day and you 2 went to school together. Eric Dra...... lol I told him I binge watch you and he was inspired that you were doing so well.
Great video! As far as I can tell the green tape in MN is called Turtle tape. This is probably a stupid question, but after everything, do you need to add weather-proofing to the shoes? In this state, there can be rain or sleet or snow or hail and in October, it could all be in the same day!
I have a custom workshop of my own and was interested to know how you organize your paint and supplies in yours! With all the supplies it takes it can get messy quick! Also how do you keep inventory in a studio setting like yours, both for paint and supplies? I am very interested in seeing a tour of the workshop and your work stations! Your videos helped mentor me to making better custom shoes! Greatly appreciate it!
i have been watching your videos for the past few weeks and i must say you are incredible and also i want to ask if i can get some of these materials in Ghana.
Thank you for tuning in! I’ve included Amazon links to most of the products so you can search up the names at least to find what’s available nearby you
when working on fabrics (such as canvas shoes like vans) you mention you use krylon matte finisher but how many coats do you apply to preserve your artwork?
I know you get these comments a lot but I’m about to start customizing my first pair today and you’ve been such a major help and inspiration man🙏🏼 keep up the good work!
Hello and many thanks for your beautiful videos, I want try to customize a pair of Jordan, I came from screen printing so I know that the quality of the materials used during the process is one of a crucial part, I am making my list to start, but looks like that I can't find the Bulldog Adhesion Promoter or the Rust Oleum Primer Adhesion Promoter in Italy, so I was thinking if you could recommend another brand with the same quality, thanks again for your videos
Thanks for all the useful tips you sharing with us 🙏 I have lots of difficulty finding the right masking tape and when you post this video I’ve seen that you recommend 3m green Scotch 2060 tape and I go online and ordered right away.. but if you use heat gun on it the glue it’s gonna stick to the shoe after you removed .. I’ve done something wrong with it or it’s normal like this ? Thanks 🙏
I was wondering if sanding is necessary or applying acetone/preparer a lot could do it like people like jordan vincent or Nick iby do. And as usual great work😁
Have to have to have to have to sand, if you want them to hold up long term especially in high crease areas. If you’re just making a pair for fun or display sure you don’t need it
I just started playing around with the idea of customizing some shoes and it has brought me so much peace and joy. Now I need more time. Love all your videos! So much good info!! Thank you for sharing everything!! So, I got a Cricut cutter (I’m obsessed) and I’ve been using HTV on some projects. I like using it on shoes. I’m finding it really hard to figure out what to use to seal and finish HTV on a shoe. Leather and canvas. I’m doing a lot of VANS for friends. AF1s for my kiddos. What do you use to ensure that HTV doesn’t lift over time. Also, what is the best way to prep shoes for HTV? Thanks in advance and thank you so much for sharing all your tips and tricks. I’ve learned so much!
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear I figured since I couldn’t find any videos on it. I should prob just get in the habit of painting shoes and HTV everything else. Thanks a bunch!!

I have gleaned great information from your videos while trying to paint shoes that must be black for work. The only ones that work for me are not made anymore and I have to buy them used and repaint. Skechers 2.0 (women's) rocker style shoe has a marshmallowy type mid-sole between a hard midsole under the top of the shoe and the sole which is stiff. The compressible midsole cracks when used after painting. Following your directions has worked really well so I need help on painting that part to keep it black. You are so knowledgeable and excellent- just had to try for the best expert help. Please let me know your advice. Thanks!
Unfortunately paint and rubber will just never work that well together. I would probably dye the midsole first, then paint on top. Then from there you'll just need to do repaints every so often
I really in joy your videos man! You help me start my custom game so good. I got at question: What is a adhesion promoter exactly? I been looking all over in Denmark to find one and the internet but just haven’t found one. Is a adhesion promoter the same as a regular vinyl/plastic promoter? Really hope u can help mate🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very helpful - DO you have a goto resource for laces? I'm looking for white laces with black on the border I've seen in the popular pop art style of customs and can only find them in the UK. Thanks!
Does it matter if my detail sander has a higher amp than the one you recommend? I am not really too handy with tool knowledge so I am concerned with the power levels!!!
I'm wanting to make a custom pair of shoes for my 1 year old, nothing too special, but could you use normal acrylic paint, would I have to add anything to it, to help it last? Or just a finisher over top?
Normal acrylics are way too thick for application on shoes unfortuantely, but being that when they’re only 1 you’re not really worried about the shoes creasing and such leading to paint cracking so you’d be fine.. I’d still hit em with an acrylic finisher though after
I started customizing shoes in the past 2 months and there's no way I could've done it without you

🤣🤣🤟🏽🤟🏽
i have been watching your videos for the past few weeks and i must say you are incredible and also i want to ask if i can get some of these materials in Ghana.
Thank you for tuning in! I’ve included Amazon links to most of the products so you can search up the names at least to find what’s available nearby you
Amazing video DeJesus
when working on fabrics (such as canvas shoes like vans) you mention you use krylon matte finisher but how many coats do you apply to preserve your artwork?
2 light coats
Great video as always👍🏾🔥
You da best! Subbed and saved video!
I know you get these comments a lot but I’m about to start customizing my first pair today and you’ve been such a major help and inspiration man🙏🏼 keep up the good work!
Hello and many thanks for your beautiful videos,
I want try to customize a pair of Jordan, I came from screen printing
so I know that the quality of the materials used during the process is one of a crucial part,
I am making my list to start, but looks like that I can't find the Bulldog Adhesion Promoter
or the Rust Oleum Primer Adhesion Promoter in Italy,
so I was thinking if you could recommend another brand with the same quality,
thanks again for your videos
I was waiting for the posca pen 😂😂
Is this the same adhesion promoter you use? Rustoleom automotive primer & adhesion
Yes or you can get bulldog brand if it’s easier to find
Thanks for all the useful tips you sharing with us 🙏 I have lots of difficulty finding the right masking tape and when you post this video I’ve seen that you recommend 3m green Scotch 2060 tape and I go online and ordered right away.. but if you use heat gun on it the glue it’s gonna stick to the shoe after you removed .. I’ve done something wrong with it or it’s normal like this ? Thanks 🙏
No that’ll help remove the glue if anything, but if you do have tape residue left behind you can use goo gone or acetone for removal
You got me with the POSCA pens... Fewww
I was wondering if sanding is necessary or applying acetone/preparer a lot could do it like people like jordan vincent or Nick iby do. And as usual great work😁
Have to have to have to have to sand, if you want them to hold up long term especially in high crease areas. If you’re just making a pair for fun or display sure you don’t need it
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thanks i ll try both to really see the effect
I gotta be honest HTV is soemthing i never use so I’m not the person to ask, maybe ask @dragoncustoms on ig who has much more experience with it
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear I figured since I couldn’t find any videos on it. I should prob just get in the habit of painting shoes and HTV everything else. Thanks a bunch!!
Brooooo! Toothpicks all day! I find it harder to use a detail brush :( maybe i just got the wrong brush....ima try the one you have! Thanks bro!

Hello! You didn’t link the liquid finisher
amzn.to/3rirn9A
here you go!
Good detail
Love it👨🏼🎨
Great vid!! As someone with no experience with respirators - are there any certain filters I need to go with them?
Thiis is what I needed to see
About to take tho journey myself.
Lets go!!! You got this
I really in joy your videos man!
Yes that should do the job !
Very helpful - DO you have a goto resource for laces? I'm looking for white laces with black on the border I've seen in the popular pop art style of customs and can only find them in the UK. Thanks!
Do you always use the adhesion promoter before painting on leather?
Sure do!
What’s a good airbrush paint to use for rubber ??? Like a paintball mask ????
Can you explain how you determine percentage when mixing? Thank you.
Will the auto motive adhesion promoter work I can’t find the regular primer rust-oleum & when I do they send me automotive 😭😮💨
Try getting bulldog adhesion promoter
Great video. Do you do custom cleats?
Sure do bud!
Im getting that LK matte finisher for my daughter
very helpful! 👍
Does it matter if my detail sander has a higher amp than the one you recommend? I am not really too handy with tool knowledge so I am concerned with the power levels!!!
there’s potential that it might be too strong, but it sorta depends what model you have. I would probably imagine that you’d be fine
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear and this is why you are my unofficial mentor. I appreciate the responses to question
I just got a pair of black Old Skool vans. How do you think I should customize them? What design?
I'm wanting to make a custom pair of shoes for my 1 year old, nothing too special, but could you use normal acrylic paint, would I have to add anything to it, to help it last? Or just a finisher over top?
Normal acrylics are way too thick for application on shoes unfortuantely, but being that when they’re only 1 you’re not really worried about the shoes creasing and such leading to paint cracking so you’d be fine.. I’d still hit em with an acrylic finisher though after
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear awesome, thank you for replying 😊
Can you dye sock liners or does it bleed into your socks? Can you use dye for the rubber soles?
Sockliners you can just paint by adding 2soft and lots of heat setting.. the only soles you can do work on are Translucent soles like Jordan 11’s
