They handled Reptile and Baraka really well, and Shang Tsung was masterfully portrayed. The story definitely lost me at the end, although I did appreciate some of the names.
It was weird for them to push the Armageddon arc at the end. Felt a bit forced but the fight felt fun and epic. But I would have preferred something a little more reserved.
I think the issue with the ending (and now the rest of the story) is that it's immediately too big. Bigger than any other story beforehand - multiple timelines with unlimited copies of each character now exist IN STORY. So - where do we go from here? Gonna fight Titan Shang Tsung again? Titan Shao Khan? Another Good Liu Kang vs Evil Liu Kang? Are we leading to *ANOTHER* Reboot of the franchise? I felt like they really missed the opportunity to hone in on the story - bring it back down to what the original games were while introducing new and intriguing characters because it's an entirely different universe. Instead, we got rehashed characters with a fairly similar story plot of the last 5 games and while it's arguably the best version of the story so far, i think it could have been even better.

Just finished the kampaign and loved it. Really dug brighter color pallet and everyone’s new/expanded backstories. It felt like just the right amount of fan service with a cool narrative direction. Actually just wanted more by the end of it lol
Had some friends over last night and after debating on buying this game, I bought it and it’s some of the most fun I’ve had playing local play in a fighting game. Not even to mention the story which I think is insanely good, I love the changes made to all the characters
I'm an MK diehard and while I love the first 2 thirds of the story, I kind of felt the last part felt a little rushed. Like it's not bad, but it feels like it could have been fleshed out a little more. I dunno, still loving it. Lol
Honestly my favourite part about the last few instalments of these games has been the campaign. The stories and characters are all so well written and while the content is so over the top and ridiculous at times, the universe they’ve created still feels so alive. I love what they did with MK1’s story and essentially just created a way to start the stories from scratch and re-imagine the characters, and bring new life and depth to characters, like Baraka and Reptile, who in the past haven’t had much development or time in the spotlight.
The way they made reptile made me a fan of him. Also, the story but beyond that he was a throwaway character in the past games. But now he's something to acknowledge.
MK1 Story is THE BEST story mode not just in MK games but in all fighting games, and this is coming from someone who played a lot of these. Also I love the fact that Invasions mode is super fun and I'm having a blast with it, and my favorite character, Reptile, got both his own chapter in the story and his own season in Invasions. Overall, MK1 is one of the best MK games ever made and of the best fighting games ever made.

I just finished the campaign last night and really enjoyed it! The production value was so good IMHO... It was so good that I didn't want it to end. So far I'm having a good time, but wish they had some sort of lobby like in street fighter 6 where they have the battle hub mode.
I love what they did with a lot of the characters’ movesets. I loved subzero in MKX but in MK11 I felt him to be less fun to play. Now in MK1 his moveset is awesome! (His combo starters are a little slow though.) I also love his simplified design.
Absolutely loved the story and already beat the invasion mode. my main rn is Ashrah with Cyrax, looking forward to what nether realm has cooking for the future and also ofcourse Omni man
Jake brings up a good point, I've been playing Mortal Kombat since MKII on the SNES but I never truly followed the story early on. Maybe until Deception? This game is the 2nd reboot but in reality MK has been in this same storyline SINCE the 90s. That's crazy.
It is a nice refresher to the series, and I love seeing the roles of Liu Kang and Raiden being flipped (will new Raiden be with Kitana now 🤷♂️). The Tarkat situation is great with fleshing our characters and given new story to them. I loved this especially for Baraka. Always seeing him as a side character was kinda meh for me until MK1. The story overall is fantastic and it makes me curious where they’ll go from here (possibly against General Shao’s quest in the next game).
The story development excites the fuck out of me lol the progression of character development within a "new timeline" is so exciting and rewarding to be apart of..and Kaui Liang finally has his scar over his left eye so I'm very happy; 🤣💯💯
I must say that I wasn’t t expecting the plot twist at all even after seeing all of the trailers. I really like how all of the characters were utilized better throughout the story. Can’t wait for future dlc story add on because don’t forget onaga is definitely coming back at some point in this game.

Hi Jake. Big fan! Thank you for mentioning the fact that the Devs and at Netherealm needs to look at adding more modes/content to the game in the launch format. Please also consider making a video asking the question what various types of games should offer for the price the studios are asking...for example, is it right to ask the same price for an Arcade fighter with a very short campaign mode as for example, the Spiderman 2 which will offer much more in terms of veriaty and hours spent with the game? I don't have a problem paying a premium rate for a AAA arcade fighter, but then the studio can not expect me to pay extra for additional content such as extra characters...Am I wrong? Looking forward to your response and keep up with the good work!
Spot on with the story analysis, like you said the last 2 chapters went in the same direction as the previous game however the execution still was amazing and there were enough surprises along the way to keep me cheering and smiling The plot itself is pretty straightforward this time but the characters carry the story a lot , they really found the perfect versions of most of the characters Fixed what was broken with them
im moving through slowly only played through 3 chapters so far got so many games to play/finish so probably gonna just move on once i complete the story mode for this
My biggest takeaway after playing for awhile, the game is just way more fun to play than 11. Love the reimagined characters and the maps are absolutely beautiful! Hope they sort the online matchmaking out cause it’s such a joy to play!
There are so many games right now I'm waiting for MK1 to get an Ultimate edition with all the DLC characters. I still love the old school MK1,2,3 but Reptile was my favorite back then, and I'm happy to hear he's getting his time in the spotlight. He definitely looks better here than he has in a long time.
Story was great I actually enjoyed watching the cinematics as much as I would have any movie, really well done. I like how they set up a "create your own character" sort of twist for the next game... If u think the next one won't be like "mk multiverse" with a flushed out customization system and maybe even street fighter like public mode... I think you're crazy 👀

I used to live for fighters and platformers when I was younger.. I’ve since gotten into more complex stuff like rpg & strategy.. So I guess I’m more of a casual now.. I definitely wanna pick up the new MK & SF at some point just out of curiosity
I was going to get MK1, but I'm playing Lies of P and a bit of Starfield. Saving my cash for Spider-Man 2, Mario wonder, Allan wake 2, lords of the fallen and perhaps AC: mirage. I also bought Cyberpunk DLC for next week.
the campaign was a lot of fun, it kinda fell apart at the end but was still fun to play through and made me laugh tons of times. ive always loved MK for making the most violent games ever but not taking anything seriously except the actual gameplay. the game is GREAT. every character is fun to play as and pretty easy to pick up and understand how to play the game and why you would want one character over another. really really good stuff.

Loved the campaign! My favorite character was Kenshi. Although I had multiple characters I found myself surprisingly rooting for like Baraka, Reptile and Mileena
The story was good but at the end it felt very rushed and didn’t deliver as good as it could’ve. I didn’t mind the revamped characters, I liked that Baraka was a good guy this time but I didn’t like what they did with Scorpion and the character behind it. Felt weird for me.
I really liked MK11‘s story, especially how they wrapped it up with Aftermath, only played it a few months ago after MK1 got announced, as I really only got more into fighting games now with SF6 and now MK1. I also really liked MK1‘s story, and I think with the ending and the eventual DLC it will get a lot darker, looking forward to it
I always have to be careful watching your videos about how much you love certain games. Sometimes I can get caught up, and buy a game that I won't really play that much. That's my problem; I still love the videos though.
Think I said this in your previous video, like yourself I am not a fighting game fan but I love the Netherealm games. My first MK game was defo MK2 back on the Amiga (think MK1 was arcade only). I was sceptial on another reboot as they obviously did that with MK9, but damn it was good. Loved the story and especially the humour in it without it getting too cheesy (the early stuff during the Kung Lao & Raiden recruitment and pretty much everything with Cage and Kenshi. I really liked the way they switched things up with a lot of normally bad guys actually being good guys this time around. And yeah, loved the fact we really got some interesting back story and character development with Reptile. Not bad for a guy who was originally just a pallet swapped hidden character back in the day. Baraka was another one I was glad to see get some more development, but one of the few things that pissed me off was the way he just vanished during the story as I thought he was gonna be part of the crew for the rest of the game. And there was no explanation either. The biggest let down though was chapter 15 as story gets thrown out the window for what is basically a Tower battle. I also was not overly impressed with the big bad reveal right at the end. The final boss fight in MK11 was tough, even on lower difficulty levels, but felt this was just a bit too easy. For normal gaming I always go for the hardest difficulty, but not being a fighting game player normally, medium is usually my go to difficulty and as I say, on MK11 I felt medium offered a tough enough challenge for casual players. Medium on this though was a step back in my opinion. Or it could have just been that the final chapter and boss fight was not as well structured.
I have not been able to find a single match on my PS5 since launch. There was 140 votes yesterday and now it's at 173 votes, on WB support site. All these people that are stuck in a searching for match simulator on multiple platforms. I have done everything I can: from restarting my router, using a different DNS server, reinstalling the game, erasing my save data, testing other games, including MK11. I've never seen a game that's online component is LITERALLY unplayable. How embarrassing for Netherrealm.This problem has persisted since the fucking 14th, and WB seems to literally be ignoring this issue. They refuse to even address all the people dealing with this game breaking bug. How many more people need to report it until they start a damn investigation? They are resolving issues that have fewer votes though. How kind of them to fix the minor annoyances.

Before I even watch the video, I'm really curious to see Jake's take on this game, because I have sooo much to say about this one and I'm wondering if he is going to agree with me on this game as well as every other game ever. I like it , I don't love it, I don't hate it, but I'm slowly starting to love it more and also hate it more at the same time so it's a love hate relationship right now, and I hate myself for wanting to play more. My disappointment was mostly it feels like half a game compared to every other one before this and I feel it while playing.
I don’t like the fact that in the story mode, everyone beats everyone so many times that by the end of the story nobody feels like a threat as a main villain because you’ve already beaten them with 1st 2nd and 3rd tier characters already.
I agree. Netherelm know how to be cheesy but they do it properly. Sometimes they add a lil bit of ham with the cheese and some bread to fill up the stack of meat and cheese.
Definitely a solid and refreshing entry to the franchise. Also on a completely separate note are you going to check out the Separate Ways DLC for the RE4 Remake I don’t see it getting a lot of coverage which is a shame because it’s awesome
the stages are probably the best ive seen in any fighting game tbh. and the ost is probably the best a modern mk has had. and just the fact the gameplay is so sick with the combos you can do and the removal of gimmick wakeup options. but yeah the story is amazing until like chapter 13

I used to live for fighters and platformers when I was younger.. I’ve since gotten into more complex stuff like rpg & strategy.. So I guess I’m more of a casual now.. I definitely wanna pick up the new MK & SF at some point just out of curiosity

I was going to get MK1, but I'm playing Lies of P and a bit of Starfield. Saving my cash for Spider-Man 2, Mario wonder, Allan wake 2, lords of the fallen and perhaps AC: mirage. I also bought Cyberpunk DLC for next week.
the campaign was a lot of fun, it kinda fell apart at the end but was still fun to play through and made me laugh tons of times. ive always loved MK for making the most violent games ever but not taking anything seriously except the actual gameplay. the game is GREAT. every character is fun to play as and pretty easy to pick up and understand how to play the game and why you would want one character over another. really really good stuff.

Loved the campaign! My favorite character was Kenshi. Although I had multiple characters I found myself surprisingly rooting for like Baraka, Reptile and Mileena
The story was good but at the end it felt very rushed and didn’t deliver as good as it could’ve. I didn’t mind the revamped characters, I liked that Baraka was a good guy this time but I didn’t like what they did with Scorpion and the character behind it. Felt weird for me.
I really liked MK11‘s story, especially how they wrapped it up with Aftermath, only played it a few months ago after MK1 got announced, as I really only got more into fighting games now with SF6 and now MK1. I also really liked MK1‘s story, and I think with the ending and the eventual DLC it will get a lot darker, looking forward to it
I always have to be careful watching your videos about how much you love certain games. Sometimes I can get caught up, and buy a game that I won't really play that much. That's my problem; I still love the videos though.

Think I said this in your previous video, like yourself I am not a fighting game fan but I love the Netherealm games. My first MK game was defo MK2 back on the Amiga (think MK1 was arcade only). I was sceptial on another reboot as they obviously did that with MK9, but damn it was good. Loved the story and especially the humour in it without it getting too cheesy (the early stuff during the Kung Lao & Raiden recruitment and pretty much everything with Cage and Kenshi.
I really liked the way they switched things up with a lot of normally bad guys actually being good guys this time around. And yeah, loved the fact we really got some interesting back story and character development with Reptile. Not bad for a guy who was originally just a pallet swapped hidden character back in the day.
Baraka was another one I was glad to see get some more development, but one of the few things that pissed me off was the way he just vanished during the story as I thought he was gonna be part of the crew for the rest of the game. And there was no explanation either.
The biggest let down though was chapter 15 as story gets thrown out the window for what is basically a Tower battle. I also was not overly impressed with the big bad reveal right at the end.
The final boss fight in MK11 was tough, even on lower difficulty levels, but felt this was just a bit too easy. For normal gaming I always go for the hardest difficulty, but not being a fighting game player normally, medium is usually my go to difficulty and as I say, on MK11 I felt medium offered a tough enough challenge for casual players. Medium on this though was a step back in my opinion. Or it could have just been that the final chapter and boss fight was not as well structured.
I have not been able to find a single match on my PS5 since launch. There was 140 votes yesterday and now it's at 173 votes, on WB support site. All these people that are stuck in a searching for match simulator on multiple platforms. I have done everything I can: from restarting my router, using a different DNS server, reinstalling the game, erasing my save data, testing other games, including MK11. I've never seen a game that's online component is LITERALLY unplayable.
How embarrassing for Netherrealm.This problem has persisted since the fucking 14th, and WB seems to literally be ignoring this issue. They refuse to even address all the people dealing with this game breaking bug. How many more people need to report it until they start a damn investigation? They are resolving issues that have fewer votes though. How kind of them to fix the minor annoyances.
MK1 was great, I appreciated the extensive PVE mode where you level your characters up

Before I even watch the video, I'm really curious to see Jake's take on this game, because I have sooo much to say about this one and I'm wondering if he is going to agree with me on this game as well as every other game ever. I like it , I don't love it, I don't hate it, but I'm slowly starting to love it more and also hate it more at the same time so it's a love hate relationship right now, and I hate myself for wanting to play more. My disappointment was mostly it feels like half a game compared to every other one before this and I feel it while playing.
After playing this games story mode alone my expectations for Injustice 3 are through the roof.

I don’t like the fact that in the story mode, everyone beats everyone so many times that by the end of the story nobody feels like a threat as a main villain because you’ve already beaten them with 1st 2nd and 3rd tier characters already.
I agree. Netherelm know how to be cheesy but they do it properly. Sometimes they add a lil bit of ham with the cheese and some bread to fill up the stack of meat and cheese.
The campaign was so fun! I had a blast, especially the final chapter.
I do want a Injustice 3 I would play $70 right now for it. But I’m gonna wait to buy mortal kombat 1

Definitely a solid and refreshing entry to the franchise. Also on a completely separate note are you going to check out the Separate Ways DLC for the RE4 Remake I don’t see it getting a lot of coverage which is a shame because it’s awesome
the stages are probably the best ive seen in any fighting game tbh. and the ost is probably the best a modern mk has had. and just the fact the gameplay is so sick with the combos you can do and the removal of gimmick wakeup options. but yeah the story is amazing until like chapter 13
