Actually, the hot rods versions of the 4Tec 3.0 do NOT use the same chassis as the Corvette. The hot rods use chassis part number 9322, as opposed to the 8325 chassis used with the 'Vette. In watching the video, I noticed that the antenna for the hot rods is attached directly to the chassis...that was the "tip off"...double-the part numbers confirmed it. Now, I'm wondering what other parts initially 'assumed' to be the same as the 'Vette's parts are actually different. Nevertheless, while they might not be as close to the 'Vette (in parts) as people had assumed, they still look fantastic.
yup the wheelbase is longer for this over the vette too. I was hoping the 2 would be the same so the bodies could be swapped but this has clips and isn't the same size. I might still pick up the silver truck though. I really wish they would put out a replacement vette body so I could tear one up while keeping the stock one in perfect shape for the shelf.
@@charlesdipanni3725 You seem to be ignoring the fact that Traxxas originally released the 2.0 with a brushed system, and then made the brushless version available at a later point in time. If you look at the 3.0 chassis (both hot rod, or 'Vette versions), you'll notice there's an extra screw hole right next to one of the screws holding the XL-5 ESC in place...that's for the VXL-3S ESC. In other words, they WILL be releasing brushless versions of the 3.0. Learn to have a little patience.
I purchased the blue coupe this past weekend. The paint job is amazing. I found a nearly new (run less than an hour) Hobbywing 3300kv brushless system in my parts box, and I decided to put it in the coupe. What a difference: the coupe with the brushless system is faster than stock on 2s, and it's a beast on 3s. The best part is it was pretty much plug-and-play, and it cost me nothing but my time to put it in.
I feel like I remember when Factory Five started making their kit hot rods, now to see Traxxas bring them to the RC world is way cool. Being the real world counterparts are kit cars, id like to see these in kit form also. Also, I really feel that them being Hot Rods n all, they should be 2WD - or have 2WD versions at least. Traxxas is definitely capable of making their models in kits and with different drivetrains so I mean why not.
@@jonathangilbert7003 This is an old comment but I'd assume it would. I have a 4x4 Stampede that can be RWD just by pulling the driveshaft. I'm thinking about getting a 4tec and doing exactly that, lol

@That Blu Volvo I know they never listen to little ol me, your right, just wishful thinking. I'm planning to get my first Tamiya in a couple of weeks. TT01 just not sure which body yet
@That Blu Volvo yes I am, I heard that once on video I did see a kit version that has all the upgraded parts already I might get that one then order the body once I choose one. I've always like the rally car styles, and I don't own a rally, living in Arizona there's lot of places to run one. I have no shelf queens. I had one a Rc10 gold pan world's Truggy. Now I'm not tempted to break it anymore.😄🤘👊🙏😎
Just got the silver hot rod truck 3.0 yesterday. it looks so epic. i literally just don't want to drive it and shelf queen it. I have vxl 3500 brushless for it but I'll probably just keep that in the 2.0 mustang instead and makes for a great drifter at 35mph. The truck is beautiful in person. It looks better on the shelf for now. :D thanks for the review. your video made my decision to pick this up.
@@glennsylvester9153 yeah, I'd really like to get one cause you know there's gonna be a lot of nice performance parts for them pretty soon. But Traxxas really did their colors well on these. I'm in the process of installing a Traxxas TQi system with TSM into my brushless Hot Rod Coupe. I have a TQi system with the Traxxs Link Bluetooth module installed laying around that I wasn't using, but the antenna on the receiver somehow got shortened. The radio range is severely limited (about 150 feet) until my new receiver arrives.

I just got one. Had to file down rear hexes to stop tyre rub. Also rear suspension arms need shimming where they attach to axle. Loads of rear end slop! Any easier solutions?
I have the same exact dilemma, as much as I love the look/style of this, don't know if I can justify the $70 difference. But after watching his review... IDK.
That's a good argument, I have one traxxas big foot nr 1 and it's decent toy, it's not an easy choice, but still that El Camino is tempting I will have to think about it !

That thing looks sick Yeah it would be a tough pick on the color scheme I think the silver looks really good but I think I'd have to go with the red one also I think I would buy a extra body for a shelf queen and beat the crap out of the other one 😁 Cool review ✌️
Hi Greg, great video man, awesome rc, just what the Doctor ordered, are the front and rear wheel offset the same or do the rear ones seem like a deeper offset . That’s a great looking wee truck from any angle.
"it's a little looser in the rear than the Corvette." Duh, the Corvette is mid engine'd and has the weight closer to the rear axles. While a front engine vintage truck only has the empty bed over the axles! Of course it is going to break the rear loose more easily!!! ;)
