Hi, Vermont USA here and I'm a big fan. Thanks for you no BS reviews. This comparison is especially great for me because I was on the edge of buying the Rlaarlo but decided to take advantage of the Traxxas sale of 2 of these Traxxas Hot Rods for $299.99. So glad I did. I put the power from an Arrma 3s I had upgraded into the Traxxas Hot Rod and its like magic. Tons of fun. BTW, I own 6 Rlaarlo/Amoril vehicles.
It was an interesting and fair comparison. I was surprised that the Rlaarlo wasn't faster. I anticipated that it would be closer to 30 mph. I have Traxxas cars and trucks and their basic transmitter is terrible. The hot rod is basically a 4-Tec and it weighs a lot. When considering price right now in the U.S. you can buy two hot rods for $300, which is good deal in my opinion. I like this format where you take two cars and compare them side-by-side. I am looking forward to future comparisons.
I my opinion is that both cars were fairly slow because the brushed motors need a bit of running to break them in, I used to spec race and we always did every type of tweak we could to get more performance.
I dislike having to rely on the trim on the controller to make the vehicle go straight. I much prefer the adjustability that the Rlarlo provides. This is a tough one for me though as I really appreciate how readily available replacement parts are for the Traxxas 4-tec is. I suppose, you could always buy the adjustable links for tye Traxxas, but then again the Rlarlo comes with a better transmitter. Suffice it to say, I'm a bit split on this one...
With the money saved you could just buy a set of spares for the Rlarlo right from the start and not have to wait to get them when it breaks. Or perhaps even two or three sets of the most commonly worn/broken parts.

That was a very considered, honest comparison between the 2 cars. Out of the 2, I might be more inclined to get the Traxxas, purely because of the looks and parts availability. The Rlaarlo seems to be more aimed at speed runs, and the Traxxas at just messing about in car parks. Nice video, and thanks for the laughs when you realised the GPS was in the other car!! 😆👍🏻
Well yeah in some cases but you have to remember that both of them can be equipped with 1 optional gearing and 2 faster electronics. I personally have a 4tec 2.0 that I converted into a brushless car and I’m currently using a 31t pinion and a 62t spur and the car is going almost 100mph I just gotta do some tuning on the suspension and endpoints so it gets to the 100mph
@@roblowrie1969 yeah out of the box the Traxxas is for hooning around in parking lots but remember that poor spur gets beaten up so what I did is upgrade it to a full on steel gears (pinion and spur wise). And as you mentioned the slow china shipping really puts a damper on the fun for me. Traxxas stuff here in the states also seems a bit more affordable overall than what you all pay in the UK.
Enjoyed the comparison video. Just a few points I'd like to make - I wonder if the Traxxas would be quicker using their own brand lipo or even nimh battery? Also, an important thing to me is the durability factor. Which one of these cars will still be running in six or twelve months time? I totally agree the 'larlo is better VFM out of the box but will it still be going without any issues in a few months time? That's not to say that the Traxxas wouldn't develop any problems, of course! All things being equal I would go with the Traxxas. It's just a shame that here in the UK they're so expensive.
Break a common part (lower suspension arm) on both and tell me which gets fixed first? That should have been the deciding factor and would be the biggest selling point for the two cars.
I think the higher expectations are normal for things that cost a lot more money? Unfortunately because Traxxas is so highly priced for everything & really not that much better than it’s competitors. Traxxas kinda deserves the hate from a lot of the disappointed people they create. There’s a reason they can afford a team of lawyers to issue all those cease & assist letters so fast (another reason to hate that company.). If Traxxas stoped paying & worrying so much about legal nonsense? They could afford to make their pricing more competitive. Then invest & understand the importance of P.R. With the Hobby community, would make them unstoppable? They’d be way bigger then they even are today. So I totally get anyone who is a little harder on their products in any review. Thanks for sharing Phil. 👊
The fact that I can get all the parts for the Traxxas right now at my local Rc shop is worth 2 points. Also, alloy parts look good but they bend and break easily. I have 2 ralarlo cars with alloy big shocks and both were leaking out on the box. Had to rebuild them. I’ve never had a problem with Traxxas. Now I’m not a fan a Traxxas business practices but I like the cars and I do own more Traxxas then anything else mainly because of part availability.

The thing for me, they both look cool, but, most of my hobby shops have never even heard of rlaarlo, much less would have any replacement parts if something broke. But every single hobby shop I’ve ever been to has traxxas, and always have anything you need for them on hand. And at least in my experience, traxxas parts are pretty cheap compared to some of these other manufacturers. At any rate Phil, I loved the video, and although I personally prefer traxxas, I was really digging on that rlaarlo. It is pretty awesome. Please keep these videos coming your one of my fav channels to watch for RC content 😎
My roommate has the red version of the Traxxas truck and upgraded to the brushless motor installed for an extra $100. It flies, but mostly, I like the look of it! If we had Rlarlo, or whatever it's spelled,I'd look at it, but I have the Slash 2x4 (I traded a Teton and extra battery for), Rustler 4x4 (bought used and swapped the brushless motor in), Stampede 4x4 brushless, TRX4 Sport and Bronco, and two of the Slash 1/16 I bought for $150 used for the pair. I have a lot more, but I'm just addicted to RCs! I have the Kyosho Mad Van MK2, Jimny 1/6, Volcano 1/16, Scout Gen 8, and a bunch of others.
You would definitely need to out the speed gearing on to get the 30 mph from the 3.0. My 4tec 2.0 does 36 on the fastest gearing from Traxxas and that’s on the stock esc and motor.
The Rlaarlo chassis looks a LOT like an Exceed shaft drive 4wd chassis that they have been making for decades. They are usually indestructible and work fairly well.
It should be pointed out ... that for the last several months (and still now) Traxxas has a promotion where you get 2 of those cars for $299 (maybe it's just a US promotion??). I would say, that's extremely compelling. You and a friend could go halfsies and get each car for $150 ... I think that deal claims back one point on your competition. -- Also, I've yet to see a Traxxas sale ... not turn into the normal price in the future.
You can adjust way more on that traxxas remote than you can the other, you have to manually program it, it’s a series of steps but it’s included in the manual.
I live in kansas. I have found it diesnt matter whether you choose traxxas or arrma or ralarlo, none of the hobby shops have what you need. They got cars all day. But parts, naw i have had to go all amazon. Which sucks because i have been to all in town trying to support local, and its always "well have em on next truck". I have an arrma senton i couldnt even find a motor plate or drive shaft in town. They are all the same accross 1/8 arrma.😢
Nice comparison video, however I would would debate if alloy (specially chinesium) parts are better than quality plastic - if you have a fat crash (let's face it, when bashing hard it is not a matter of if but when), the plastic parts will bend and if to the breaking point - only the weakest part fails. If alloy part is hit hard it will twist/break, and the next weak part will follow, dealing way more interior damage. Also metal chassis tend to bend during failed jumps. Just my 2 cents.
It's an interesting new platform for sure. First run production bugs aside, it's a good value. Just be careful if you go 3s with these brushed electronics 😅
Ive got a 10.5t surpass and 120amp esc in my 917. Pinion set and cheap servo. Its a ripper, 4wd parking lot ripper, does 80mph as i set it up. I set it up more for parking lot rips vs the top speed setup they wanted it set up as. The stock tires last about one good sesh of rips before they were smoked.
Nice video and good job on the comparison. I have a couple Rlaarlo in the Gulf paint job on order thanks to you!! I don't care for the Traxxas hot rod. Not my cup of tea but I can't wait for my Porsche 917k based Rlaarlo to get here!!
I DISAGREE! My distaste is growing rapidly. As you said the parts are almost IMPOSSIBLE to get. I have FIVE orders that run from when sale first started.. My roller is sitting on my workbench. Secondly, RLAARLO’s response to questions has become nonexistent! I have emailed them over a dozen times since I last heard back from them…without a reply. The hex screws are a NIGHTMARE!!!! How can you maintain, repair &/or upgrade your RC if every other hex screw you try to remove gets stripped even with the utmost care…have you tried to undo any hexes? AND BYW…I am NO TRAXXAS FAN…
Heh. China pisspot metal is, indeed, terrible. Their screws strip when just looking at it, and that’s my experience with EVERY China car.. WPL, FMS, etc.
If you became Project Farm, but for RC. I'd bet your channel would grow even more. It'd be really cool to see similar products at similar prices being compared. You'd have to purposely break parts with tools and have measuring devices, which would be quite a time consuming investment for you.
Not a traxxas fan in the slightest but I just can't bring myself to invest a couple hundred quid in a chinese model with no real uk spares support which will be long forgotten about 3 years from now while people can still get parts for their 15 year old traxxas.
Yet another brill video from yourself and gives a lot for someone to think about looks wise I prefer the rlaarlo but would go for the blue and orange version and it would be a good car for me to learn how to do upgrades on. Thank you for another video. Peter
The only problem I have with traxxas is the receiver that out of 3 of 5 of my models the receiver has went bad and the tq and tqi that once you let off the throttle it still goes but slow it crashed my slayer and my slash ultimate is only the one that has the tqi receiver that I'm about to swap to a flysky or radiolink and when I had the rustler 2wd and 4wd the receivers where acting crazy on both and on the 2wd it keep frying every esc and I replace them both a flysky receiver and things worked so much better
1 thing to consider is resale, most likely to get a better percentage of your outlay back on the Traxxas or other well known brand than something like this Rlaarlo if you wanted to move it on. Same thing happens in 1-1. You can spend more on Toyota and get less features or spend less on a Renault etc get more features and bang for buck however see any saving die in resale.
Tipp: I wouldnt reccomend using batteries from factories you dont know to be trustworthy. Just get some or a big one rightaway. (Most batteries included in Sets that i bought arent that good, usually they dont last as long and have limited power output.)
For me its all about the electronics, we can start of cheap and then put mid/high level electronics it'll go. Besides it's universal, you can put nice body, wheels etc and make it look cool, in term of durability they're all break if you hit the wall at high speed. I'll buy cheap ones and start build up to look and run better, whatever we buy we upgrade it anyway..cheers😀
The spare parts part was the nail in the coffin, the rlaarlo may be cheaper and better in every aspect but if availability is not one then everything else falls apart...its just like buying a real car...
The hot rods are on sale right now for 300 euros or less, and the Rlaarlo is 220+tax+shipping. Taking into account parts support... not sure the Rlaarlo is worth it. Also, the name. That name takes 10% of value off immediately.
On the back of the Traxxas box, in fine print, it actually does say with high speed, gearing, and 3S battery It also stated in the manual, but I would take the other car any day 🙏
The real problem with the factory five traxxas cars is almost 0 parts support. It's so bad you have to go a fishing exciting to find the parts on their website. Good luck getting the parts at your hobby shop. Sure they can order them in but you can too, and straight to the house at that. So sweet that Traxxas abandoned those cars.
I spotted the red Coupe a few months ago & thought it looked really cool, now I’ve found they do a blue one, which I prefer & the pickup which is just as good looking, decisions, decisions 🤔 I think it’ll be a Chrimbo pessie to myself After getting myself a 2nd hand Rustler, just to see what the Traxxas fuss is about, I have to say there is something to be said about the good build quality even for a “cheap” entry level rig
Sorry, but I did laugh, first at your oh s*t! Kerb moment, secondly at your GPS cock up. That's the kind of thing I'd do. I agree with your assessment though I do like that Traxxas Rod, but to me Traxxas would also lose out of having a proprietary battery plug. Fun vid Phil.
@Tomley RC wish it was easier to buy. No local stores and rarely available online so I still can't get one. After hearing batteries were hard to get for em I basically gave up.
I have both. The traxxas all day long!! The rlaarlo is a good rc but not as good as the traxxas. Especially if you are planning on upgrading parts which it's RC of course you are going to upgrade!! 😋
I started r/c with shopping at my local store and they had only traxxas, team associated and duratrax. Traxass had almost every part available on the shelf so it wasn't much option. Going online is killing the store in my area. Still trying to support my store which has Traxxas and Arma, Traxxas still has the upper hand with more spare parts and upgrdes.
Bet none of Rlaarlo cars last as well as my slash 4x4 which i got 2014 young me put it through hell with not lubricating bearings and running it through water, washed it once with a dishwasher and it still runs pretty damn well the electronics are original and survived a few dives into rivers even tho the receiver got wet. I have no bad things to say about traxxas.
Can't help myself, but why did i have to think about Mr Talbot's comparison Video about the Infractions? Quote: "This one is a lot cheaper than the other one(s), so obviously it's gonna be worse. The question is, how much worse..." The funny thing here is, that obviously the cheaper one will be extremely better and not worse!😂😂😂
Plastic is a useful material for a lot of things, and for a part that will be bumped and scratched, I can't say that a plastic chassis is a disadvantage. As long as it's sufficiently rigid to do the job, which you could do with fiber reinforcement and good engineering, plastic is preferred because it will generally keep its shape until it breaks. It's also considerably lighter and cheaper than a comparable aluminum part. the main problem with Traxxas is the cost of the plastic, and not the plastic itself.
@TomleyRC ya, they are a bit of a cheaper brand but I have the Deerc 1/10 buggy thing. It looks kind of like a stadium truck, and that thing goes on 3s and I have not broken it yet.
I kind of like Traxxas products. I just hate how they operate as a company. I hate how Harley Davidson operates as a company but I still want a shovelhead? I get the same impression from Phil. He likes the cars. Doesn't like the company but I feel his reviews are very honest
The Rlaarlo is not exactly a "cheap" Chinese car. However IMHO Rlaarlo is already giving the overpriced Traxxas models some stiff competition in all the areas that matter.
To be fair the Traxxas suspension is alot better for turning an handling where it don't make much movement so there fore it doesn't slide as much once the tires have warmed up

The hobby has out grown traxxas . The competition is good for everyone, egos aside. PS changing batteries one handed impressive
A month ago you could get 2’traxxas for 300 at the LHS , (the hot rod truck) pretty sweet deal
Bargain for sure!
Yeah… not everywhere has a good selection of parts unfortunately
I just love rc car “vs”s. And this is a classic. Probably watched it 3 times already
Missed the *** Speed gear install needed for 30+ speed on the box
I still own Traxxas. I like my trx 4 blazer. And the V2 Maxx. But I have considered selling them just because they are Traxxas
Traxxas is fine after you replace the motor, esc, servos, cheap plastic bits and driveshafts…😂
Might as well replace the whole chassis with a cheap chinese carbon fiber chassis
Still better than an Aarma lol
I really like my vintage Traxxas nitro rustler. It actually feels better built than my arrma. I love it. I just don't like Traxxas as a company.
And the gears, too! They still use monkey metal gears even with Xmaxx which is priced at £1079.
And add a battery 😆
The thing I really like about both of them is the bodies. Traxxas nailed the 33-4 ford, and Rlaarlo nailed the 917 Porsche
The clear winner is the music playing during the bashing montage!
I was gonna try… then you sent me that video 😅
@@TomleyRC mine will arrive tomorrow and i wanted to run it on 3s whats wrong with it ? what video? 😅
@@TomleyRC 🤣🤣
@@SoFixHDAlways, always check motor and ESC specs before increasing cell count.
That clip never gets old
I was about to say did you change the gps! 😂 life is wonderful with all of its funny moments!
I have them both as well. Excellent comparison, I agree with you!! 👍🏻😁
2:44 🤣🤣
I never get tired of this
Nice video and good job on the comparison.
That’s a good point… ☝🏼
Yet another brill video from yourself and gives a lot for someone to think about looks wise I prefer the rlaarlo but would go for the blue and orange version and it would be a good car for me to learn how to do upgrades on.
Thank you for another video.
Peter
Thanks Peter. It was fun to compare them
WoW they both rip pretty well with no mods
You can spend more on Toyota and get less features or spend less on a Renault etc get more features and bang for buck however see any saving die in resale.
the traxxas is gorgeous bro
Great speed test. One in km/h the other in mph. Phenomenal work.
I saw both km/h and mph for both cars.
Tipp:
I wouldnt reccomend using batteries from factories you dont know to be trustworthy.
Just get some or a big one rightaway.
(Most batteries included in Sets that i bought arent that good, usually they dont last as long and have limited power output.)
Rlaarlo looks really good. Love the old Porsche body style. I also love the pickup truck body, but the other one wins it for me
Yeah… the Gulf colours make it look 👌
On the back of the Traxxas box, in fine print, it actually does say with high speed, gearing, and 3S battery
It also stated in the manual, but I would take the other car any day 🙏
The real problem with the factory five traxxas cars is almost 0 parts support. It's so bad you have to go a fishing exciting to find the parts on their website. Good luck getting the parts at your hobby shop. Sure they can order them in but you can too, and straight to the house at that. So sweet that Traxxas abandoned those cars.
8:50 oooh slippery bits! I like slippery bits! I said BITS!!!
wait, you used the riarlo footage before and now in this comparison video again, it's like hybrid, thats so smart actually. wow
I’m not sure what you mean. I showed some footage of my other Rlaarlo
I'm not going to lie to Traxxas one looks cooler
That Rlaarlo is a really good looking car.
I spotted the red Coupe a few months ago & thought it looked really cool, now I’ve found they do a blue one, which I prefer & the pickup which is just as good looking, decisions, decisions 🤔
I think it’ll be a Chrimbo pessie to myself
After getting myself a 2nd hand Rustler, just to see what the Traxxas fuss is about, I have to say there is something to be said about the good build quality even for a “cheap” entry level rig
I Love that Factory five truck! Factory five racing is an hour from me. they have some awesome kit car's. look them up you won't be disappointed.
well now you have the AK787!!
😅… yeah, I’ve done that before with the GPS. Traxxas connector is the first thing to go for me!
You crack me up with the gps not in the traxxas 😂😂😂😂
🤣
And most importantly Traxxas the part support everywhere and evan Best buy sells parts ...when you break your still running the same Day
Phil you should of put the battery out of the relalo into the traxas as it had more of a charge left in it lol
Got 2 of those trucks for like $340 on sale…best deal ever
Phil, Mate I watched the video, both are pretty kool.
I can see myself having a lot of fun with those.
Cheers,
Troy 😎
I don't like Traxxas as a company but seriously want a trx4m. As for these 2 definitely pick the R company much better rig in my eyes.
TRX4M is a decent little crawler
@Tomley RC wish it was easier to buy. No local stores and rarely available online so I still can't get one. After hearing batteries were hard to get for em I basically gave up.
Comparison to the brushless metal rlaarlo would have been comparable in consideration of the price!
That made me laugh so much I woke the dog up lol. Gps still in the other car 😂 sort of thing I’d do that 😂
Traxxas, even though it's a Texas based company, their motors are manufactured in Taiwan.
Taiwan has far superior quality control compared to mainland commie China
I have both. The traxxas all day long!! The rlaarlo is a good rc but not as good as the traxxas. Especially if you are planning on upgrading parts which it's RC of course you are going to upgrade!! 😋
The traxxas one reminds me of the hotwheels version of it
Are you talking about Bone Shaker or a different one? Bone Shaker is my all time fave Hot Wheels😁
@@thetimebean yup the bone shaker
Inside the black and white book there’s a blow up view of the front the rear and the chassis.
Yeah… cheaper is not always worse. Although there are a fair few lemons out there… and not just from the cheaper Chinese brands!
Ouch, two of those Traxxas for $299 in US right now. $150 each only. UK gets hosed.
Traxxas has a wicked body
Plastic is a useful material for a lot of things, and for a part that will be bumped and scratched, I can't say that a plastic chassis is a disadvantage. As long as it's sufficiently rigid to do the job, which you could do with fiber reinforcement and good engineering, plastic is preferred because it will generally keep its shape until it breaks. It's also considerably lighter and cheaper than a comparable aluminum part. the main problem with Traxxas is the cost of the plastic, and not the plastic itself.
Phil flexin some ink in the vids✌️.!
5:49 My fav part of this vid.
great review i have owned many Traxxas Products and they always break on me. I stick with Arrma and DeeRc now.
Never tried DeeRC.. but from what I’ve seen that can be a bit hit n miss
@TomleyRC ya, they are a bit of a cheaper brand but I have the Deerc 1/10 buggy thing. It looks kind of like a stadium truck, and that thing goes on 3s and I have not broken it yet.
How about a Traxxas TRX4m vs something from WPL or MN, then make up the price difference with upgrades to the WPL/MN truck?
Traxxas a lot better than wpl trash..although you might consider scx24 as well
FMS FCX24 is better than TRX4M, but the Traxxas isn't to bad
Great show, brother!
Entertaining Video😎
I was hoping to see, a second Speed run on both, with the high speed Pinion Gears they come with.
Straight out the box comparison.
Where did you get your RC driver's😂😂😂😂😂 keep up the good videos
To be fair the Traxxas suspension is alot better for turning an handling where it don't make much movement so there fore it doesn't slide as much once the tires have warmed up
Every Traxxas comes with the white booklet which is your parts, upgrades and exploded view so yes it has it.
