In this video we run another dumb experiment in Pokémon Sword and Shield, this time in The Isle Of Armor's story, where we see what happens if we RELEASE KUBFU when we're supposed to be training it for an amazing final battle versus Mustard!

Um... I'm a little curious, have you battled Hop for the 10th time? That's in the Slumbering Wealds, where Hop gets his doggie and challenges you for the last time.
It seems like that there's this plot where Hop will arrive on the Isle of Armor after he gets beat up by you the last time and decides to work for Professor Sonia as an assistant. He claims that he's sent here by Sonia while Sonia is researching in the Crown Tundra. Then there will be the plot to search for Max Honey with Hop together.
If Hop is still waiting in the Slumbering Wealds, Mustard will say that you have something else to take care of, just like we saw in the last part of the video.
So, if someone tries to speedrun the dlc, releasing kubfu is actually optimal.

If Gamefreak really wanted to be cheeky, they could've had Mustard say, "Oh, I noticed Kubfu isn't in your party or your boxes. No matter! I have plenty more for this occasion! You're definitely going to need Kubfu for this training! **grins mischievously**" and then he just gives you another one nonchalantly and the game can continue. That'd have my sides splitting.
But at the same time, I love how the actual result is the game basically saying, "Oh you don't want to use the main focus pokemon for this DLC? Well....okay! Here, just do whatever you want, go nuts. No further priorities for you since you went and skipped everything!"
I was thinking the same thing as like a fail safe for when ppl just try this idea

"Kubfu ran back to the dojo" then give a malus in friendship points would be the most logical explaination if you release it. As for trade/home a flag could be there in which case it lock you in the alternative "do you want to challenge the towers without him?" route until the one with ID matching your save's Kungfu ID is back. (or any other kubfu I guess?)
Maybe the second could be a rental you don't get to keep

but they made it so you can't release the given Castform in pokemon emerald. so it's wierd how they forgot to do that for Kubfu.

@@TheWaterbreath You can release that Castform. You've probably watched the video when a guy tried to complete the game with only Mudkip and was unable to release it. You must have at least two Pokemon to be able to trade, so the game won't let you release any of your last two Pokemon as a protection against softlocking yourself.

@@samoshka9870, you can release it, as this vid shows, and mythical is a sub category of legendary
Just so people know, you can have up to 8 saves on a switch via profiles. All profiles on your main switch can use the DLC, so unless you had run the story 8 times already, there’s no reason you would have needed to spend another $30 to get a Kubfu.
You could also delete a save to restart the dlc
also if you get the cartridge version of the dlc, youre really only limited by number of switches you have (which, granted, for most people including me is one, but some people have more)

I think the reason why it's still playable after releasing him isn't because they thought about people releasing kubfu but instead they thought people might put him in Pokémon home and trade it to a different game.

They could’ve also gone with: “Kubfu came back to the Dojo after you released it. Are you sure you don’t want him back on your team?” And if you chose “I want him.”, then they give it to you again.
I think that Mustard gave us Urshifu because he sees an incredible potential in us, but to release him in the wild for him must be like what happened to Leon before. Maybe we're not ready or just want to take another choices in life. He must feel a little bad about it but still respect our decision. There's no need to be upset after all. He still welcomes us to his isle but do not try to convince us back, just wait until the day we may reconsider and finish our training with him.

The final part of the DLC can't be played until you finish Hops' storyline in the main game, that is why Mustard says something about 'The next step can wait until PDWinnall does what he needs to do' so there is a little bit more to do

If there's one thing I find more questionable than the idea of releasing Kubfu, it's the fact that Mustard and the Tower Guards have clearly hacked your Trainer's personal data and used that to find out what Pokémon you've stored away in your PC boxes.
You could of just saved the game and then released him see what it was like and then go back to your save

You can use pokemon home to get another kubfu through another save file
I think you need to have nintendo switch online on your other profile to send kubfu to pokemon Home. But you can locally trade with someone who has the online subscription to then have them send it to your main profile

I actually bought it again on another Switch so I could trade over a third Kubfu in anticipation for the game soft locking, I was so wrong!

Essentially soft locking is what happens when you're not able to make any more progress in the game because something's happened that the game didn't account for, meaning your only option if you want to get further in the game is to start over

You can, however, every account is 1 internet connection so unless you set up your Nintendo Internet Service with your multiple accounts in advance, even if you made the new file for the game to access the DLC, you can't trade the Pokemon... I mean, unless you have a second Switch-

you do know that you can actually obtain another kubfu without buying a separate DLC right? Just go on an alternate profile and start a new save file, you can play the DLC if you're on the same switch...
That’s big brain. So basically u can make infinite clones but you gotta sacrifice so much Time just to be strong enough to get there, even if you trade you Pokémon over to the alt.

They should have programmed it similarly to attempting to release the only Pokemon in a box that has a hidden move. Instead of the Pokemon disappearing, it would come back because it was worried about you. But in this case have Kubfu come back because it's _not confident_ enough to be on its own!

U couldve just saved your game then released Kubfu and once you found out what happened you just restart your game and you have it back
This is the good ending for Kubfu because in every game with no human protags the Pokémon seem happy in the wild

More than one account - yes as long as it is the same game (like if you buy the dlc for shield, it won’t work for sword) and same switch
Sami Owens yes you can as long as it’s on the primary switch a secondary console can’t play the dlc besides the one who bought it but it needs WiFi to do so and if the main console is playing the he dlc or a digital game the the secondary console gets kick out of the game and goes on pause mode
Uh id like to ask a question about this. Is it possible for you to put kubfu into pokemon home and then do either one of the towers. After doing that can you transfer kubfu back and still evolve it?
I was so lazy to do the quests normally ever since I finished moving all my OP legendary pokemon from my older games to Sword I didn't want to do anything with kubfu, but now that I saw this, looks like I can continue on my isle of armor if I just release it. thanks.
Can you evolve another Kubfu in your game after you evolve one? That is, I evolved the file’s Kubfu at the tower of waters, can I take a Kubfu from another file into de tower of darkness to get both Urshifu? Or do I need to evolve it in the original file’s game and then transfer it?
You can’t. You’re only allowed to go into one tower per game.

You can set up a second profile and get a second Kubfu and evolve it, then transfer it over using home.
One evolution and g max per save file I have both games so I can either trade or use Pokémon home cause I have 2 switches or if you have one game make another account on the primary console so you can play the dlc

While we're here I'm just gonna say that I avoided the diglett in front of the bridge by going the long way around via the water and never had to bother with the diglett searching (unless I walk up to it ) and while I may not get my Alolan vulpix because of it I still prefer this over having to suddenly get the urge to diglett hunt
Interesting, though I wonder, if you use pokemon home to take kubfu out, enter the tower with any pokemon, then put Kubfu back, does that let you do the tower with any pokemon and still get Urshifu?
they could have implimented the "but it came back" for when you tried to release a kubfu similar to how if you release your last hm user in old games they will come back

so if you can’t battle mustard for the second time that means you can never unlock galarian stars (at least that’s what im assuming) so if you want to be able to do the galarian star tournament don’t release it
Note if it's on the same game and switch, you dont need to buy the pass twice.

Releasing kobfu is nothing like something I did. When I was younger an uncle gave me his old game boy and games one of those games was Pokémon fire red. He had every event pokemon and a complete pokedex. I wanted to play and start my own game and I without knowing you can't have multiple game files, started a new game.

You have to complete the after game and catch your box legendary to continue past that part in the isle of armor story. And the price was definitely worth in now with the crown tundra in the game.
