I always mount and dismount my motorcycle from the right side stepping up on the floorboard and have never had an issue. When you reach across and grab the left handlebar you are naturally placing your weight over the bike when stepping up on the right floorboard. It's a no brainer if you step up on the right floorboard with all your weight straight over the floorboard the bike is going to tip to the right. But who gets on their bike without holding the handlebars?
Thats the way Motorcycle Police mount and dismount their cycles . Ive stood on the right side and the motorcycle only raises a small amount but never falls over.
I agree with Ronnie...Show me with the tour pack..! Definitely not the same. Had a bagger before and yes this was alright with what you've shown . With the tour pack , tried many ways and almost fell to the ground and the bike came close to falling on me..! Saw a video of a pro teacher showing the mounting on the driver's floorboard ... Works fine for me...Also from the right hand side you are not getting off on the traffic side of the road...Just lean forward when mounting and the bike hardly moves at all...
7 years later in the line. Thank-you dude so much, i never did what you said and glad to know it. I always thought that is dangerous extra weight on the foot peg. Thanks again
I appreciate this video! I just rode yesterday with my husband and THIS was NOT at all how I got on and off 🤦♀️ I think I like your way better. Lol I'm going to see if I can get him (my husband to watch this and maybe try it your way) 🤞
Like you said it from the beginning. It’s our preference that matters. I’ve heard to get the motorcycle off the kickstand, it is much easier to turn the bars all the way to the right on touring bikes. Makes me cringe when I do that thought because it feels like the bike rolls forward a little bit and I’m afraid my kickstand is gonna pop up. Maybe it’s just me I don’t know if that has ever happened to anyone or if this is really the technique to use when picking up the bike?
When you have a back rest and king tour pak mounted, everything you just said goes out the window. I always mount from the right side while holding the front brake. It's much easier getting my other leg across. I always have my wife mount from the right side as well. Much easier for her to step on her peg and throw her other leg over. Never experienced any problems. Like the old saying goes, to each his own. RIDE SAFE!!
If you're light, you can get away with mounting on from the right, or if you're practiced and have figured out how to transfer your weight when you get on so that you don't just slam the bike over to the right, also not good to even try if on a slight right side banking low.

Well I disagree about mounting from the right side. You are mounting a bike with no tour pack and seat, very difficult to clear tour pack the way you climb on. I have back problems and it's very easy to mount from the right side including safety issues against being run over parked next to the hi-way. It's ok to mount from both sides as long as you remember the mechanics of mounting and what could happen if precaution is used.
Hi Frank, Don't LYFAO you need it. Like Bob says in this video, it can be done either way and this is his opinion / preference. Our old buddy Jerry at Ride Like a Pro is an ex-police officer and says his preference is from the right. They learned it that way so to mount on the non-traffic side. He also states do what YOU feel comfortable with. Wrench Safe
Almost every motor officer in the country trains to mount their bikes from the right side.

Easy to do without a tour pack would have been nice to see that.
Maybe cover the passenger mounting and dis-mounting on an electra glide with king tour pack?
Park next to a pole. :)
Lets see this with a Ultra!

I'd appreciate seeing how to mount/dismount when you have a tail bag just behind your butt - how NOT to kick it.
Thanks for the vid!
Yoga....get stretchy...if you're disabled like me you're SOL...lol...
Great Video!..Great instructions!
Police are taught to mount on the right check. It's because of traffic.

Wish I knew this years ago..
Me and wife tipped over once because I didn't use the kick stand..
Will try that for now on
The other thing when you get on and off your motorcycle it needs to be in gear with the clutch out not neutral so it doesn't roll off the kickstand.
I mount on the right when tour-pac is mounted. Nvr have had even a close call
Say what you want Always mount and dismount from the non traffic side. Its the right way to do it.
You're Right Man!
I feel like Chris Farley just gave me a motorcycle instructional video lol go Packers
Tour pack makes a big difference
Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
My riding buddies get off their roadglides first. The passenger folds down the front backrest and step off.
What ya think?

I've seen that too, smart move......plus here's a trick I learned in USMC...
If it looks stupid but works, it ain't stupid.
I see a lot of my buddies get off the bike first, then the passenger folds down the front backrest and steps off.
Park in neutral?
Great video. His mannerism reminds me of Matt Foley.

It'll be where you parked it unless someone steals it.
