What a fantastic tip. My 70 year old butt has been riding for 45+ years and I have never once thought about doing this. Watching me mount and dismount my bagger is quite a spectacle lol. I now look much smoother and less geriatric lol. Good stuff. 👍

I've been riding since 1979. No matter what side, some one always makes a comment. After a while, I would say back "Do I comment on which foot you start on when you walk." Thank you for your concern.😄
My 72year old hip joints like this maneuver, especially getting one. Another thing this old dog is trying relearn, kill the motor with the main switch. 😒

Thank you - you've just validated what I've been doing for years now. As a 5'6" StreetGlide rider, it made so much sense for me to get on and off my bike from the right side and to this day, it's the only way I get on and off any motorcycle I ride. You just need to learn to ignore the funny looks you get from other riders when they see you mounting/dismounting your bike this way.

Yup. I’m one of those shorter riders you referred to. I did this a few times now, and as long as my bike’s not leaning too far left already, this is my preferred method now. Thanks for sharing, leading, guiding, and correcting without judgement and without negativity!

I mount my bike sometimes from the rear like the indians mounted their bare back horses. That backrest really hurts like hell if I don't get enough height on my launch. Oh, and if you miss the seat and land on the tank, it's rough on the nads. Come to think of it, I might try this high side mount thing, thanks for posting.

I rode sport bikes for most of my 30 years riding and always mounted low side. Bought an Ultra Limited last year (shouldn’t have waited so long) and started watching your videos. I decided to try high side mount after seeing your videos last year and also because the tour pack opens on the high side and that’s where I’m getting my helmet from. It seems natural after doing it a few times. I love your positive content. Changing the world one video at a time!
Your bike MAY have a feature on the bags where you can switch the side it opens on, so you can access both bags from either side of the motorcycle. A lot of Harley’s have this, I would check yours to make sure

I have been doing this for years. Even my wife finds it easier to step on the peg / floorboard first before mounting the motorcycle. At 72 yrs. old I'm glad I programed myself to follow these steps.
Thank you. Lifetime biker 63 years old snapped my left ankle and tore up my knee on my four-wheeler. Haven't been able to get on my Harley from the low side since. Thought I was done! Was going to have to sell it. This process is so easy I can't believe it myself. Thanks again

💙🇨🇦🍁As a Canadian fan and a seasoned Moto officer for the Nation’s Capital, I enjoyed your common sense presentation. The advice is appropriate and a good option to use daily. Backrest and gear also make challenging for getting on your motorcycle. I ride an Indian Chief Vintage and mount on the high side. Nice to know I’m not the only one. Been riding all genres of motorcycles longer than God created dirt, and this was a great tip! Sometimes I just throw my left leg over from the high side and slide into place. Haven't tried dismounting on the high side (yet) but it all makes sense. Plan on practicing your training when the weather is above 40. Thank you Robert!

I’ve done both low and high side mounting. Almost tipped the bike once high siding on uneven gravel. Just something to pay attention to. With a back rest and passenger cup holder high siding makes more sense on my current bike. I just don’t always remember to do it. Lol! Timely tip.

Appreciate you putting this video out. I mount from the high side, with a backrest and a tour pack/trunk it just makes mounting and dismounting so much easier. And yes you do have those "know it all riders" out there that have something negative to say about the way you mount and dismount. I say whatever works best for you, like Nike "Just Do It"
I used to do the old front karate kick then hoppity hop-hop, Woods Jr style ... but after learning to get on the high it has made mounting/unmounting so much easier on my CVO Ultra Limited. Just makes sense.

Thanks Lt. I was beginning to think it was me. Been doing it this "right" way ever since training as a MO 22yrs ago. So old habit do in back die hard. So much easier if you're swinging over a radio box or a travel trunk. I know some get a little scared with they feel the bike move a little to the right and don't trust themselves.
Your so welcomed and you bet I subscribed to your channel.. Your tips and knowledge..etc is always right there with me every time I put a leg over my bike. Keep being you!! Love it
I have a rather tall Adventure bike and I mount using the peg. It never occurred to me to mount from the right or high side (DUH). I used to have horses and it was ingrained in me to mount from the left as a horse has no low or high side . I also own a Kawasaki cruiser and usually mounted using the double hop method like your friend. Amazing how we never stop to think about simple things and continue to do things like we always have without stopping to think there may be a better way. Great video and as I'm 74 years young this will certainty help me moving forward. Thanks!

I just started riding my new bike this week and getting on and off has been difficult from the low side. I'm going to start mounting/dismounting on the high side from now on. Thanks for the great video. I just subscribed and I'm looking forward to watching more.

Between you and the Motorman... maybe I can learn a few new things after riding for almost 50 years. Thanks for the video. I have always been leery of getting on from the high side because I always worried about bringing the bike over on me. I have enough problems lifting my legs over with pulling the bike over too. I'm going to go out and practice what you suggested... I hope it works for me. My big issue with riding... is getting my 68 year old ass on and off my Street and Road Glides.

Hands down, the right side mount/dismount is the easiest and best way for me. I saw this on another site once and thought, “Hmmm!” Tried it and works great! Love your presentation and explanation! I had a right hip replacement 7 months ago and I don’t even want to try to mount/dismount on the left side of my bike. Glad I had this technique down pretty good before the surgery. In my original MC safety class it was drilled into our heads that you always mount on the left side, so that is what I have been doing without question. It was almost as if mounting on the right would get you shunned and your license revoked, they were that serious about it and they never explained why. Now that I am a bit more "seasoned" and have a painful right hip, throwing that right leg over isn't fun anymore. Thank you for this timely advice!

I honestly had never considered getting on from the right. I have a smaller back rest on a 2016 Indian Springfield and getting on from the left is not really an issue. Where I see the right being better now is when my wife rides and I have the larger passenger backrest on. It’s a hike to clear that and not scuff the right saddle bag. The high side looks a lot easier and I’ll definitely give it a try. Thanks for posting!

good video Robert, another thing that is good to know for any rider or especially short guys like me (5'3") is when you get on the bike turn the handlebars all the way to the right. It makes uprighting the bike easier. I have mounted and dismounted on the right before and it does feel awkward but I think I'll start doing it more to see if it suits me better. I bumped into you at Daytona in 2022 and we chatted for a little bit, you were just coming into the vendor area. Just wondering Robert if you have done a video on how to pick up your bike when it's on the ground and the best technics? Always enjoy your videos. I will be 70 this year and will have 54 years sitting in the saddle. These machines are heavy and my 17 RGS comes in at somewhere around 850 lbs wet. At 5'3" they are a beast to upright by yourself. Do you ever go to BBB in Arkansas in the fall? I'm in Missouri and we always do that trip since it's only a 5-6 hour ride. Thanks, again Robert would love to come and do your training class someday. DAWG from the Show Me State.
Right there with ya. I'm 5'4" 29" inseam on a 32 1/2" seat on a Kawasaki Concours14 not lowered. Aside from turning the handlebars, I've found 1 foot down stops ESSENTIAL and even practice emergency braking that way. I've even seen taller new riders on Connies and ADV bikes struggle with smooth 2 foot down stops on these beasts.

I just watched your video of mounting and dismounting on the high side. As a motor cop it makes extreme sense to dismount in that manner. And on the second note it makes even more sense for all of us to do the same. We all can have a bad dismount on the side of the road and fall into live traffic. We are all made of organic material and no one survives a 4500 lb car traveling at 70 mph, ever. I have a sport bike with the rear end adjusted higher for quicker turn in and you should see all the scratches on my rear tail section. Starting out on the high side gives you a 12 to 14 inch advantage to straddle my bike. I have a center stand so my bike is pretty tall. I watch the video and it just blew my mind on why we all swing leg from the low side. This is a complete no brainer, can’t wait to build my muscle memory to on mounting from the high side. That’s the funny thing about people’s perception about Leo’s. They do not understand on the level of training they receive on all levels. They are trained to function under duress and it’s all about muscle memory. Love the video, it really just blew my mind, thanks again.

This came at a perfect time. My wife just bought me my first bike a few days ago for my 40th bday. A 2005 Road King Special. Every time I get on my bike, I get on from the low end. I have a passenger seat rest that I keep kicking. Plus it didn’t feel right getting on from that side to begin with🤔. I still was struggling getting on from the high side, for the simple fact that I never thought to step onto the floor board. That blew my mind🤯. Great video. Definitely appreciate it🫡.

Thanks for the video, I too have hip problems and now I have an easier way to get on my motorcycle. The reference to a horse is that you use stirrup for the horses saddle to get up onto the horse to ride it. I liked bare back riding, but it took a great deal of effort to get on the horse without out a fence and I’m not going to use a fence to get on my motorcycle, so your floorboard is your stirrup. Have a great day and thanks again for your video.

What a fantastic tip. My 70 year old butt has been riding for 45+ years and I have never once thought about doing this. Watching me mount and dismount my bagger is quite a spectacle lol. I now look much smoother and less geriatric lol. Good stuff. 👍

Thank you - you've just validated what I've been doing for years now. As a 5'6" StreetGlide rider, it made so much sense for me to get on and off my bike from the right side and to this day, it's the only way I get on and off any motorcycle I ride. You just need to learn to
ignore the funny looks you get from other riders when they see you mounting/dismounting your bike this way.

Getting on the high side is easier when there’s a tour back on the bike definitely

In my original MC safety class it was drilled into our heads that you always mount on the left side, so that is what I have been doing without question. It was almost as if mounting on the right would get you shunned and your license revoked, they were that serious about it and they never explained why.

Thanks brother. Yes that is a good tip. I have done a video on uprighting your motorcycle. It’s titled “Here’s another way to pick up your motorcycle”.

Thank you Lt. Great video. I hit my saddle bags all the time Im mounting or dismounting. Sometimes I lose my balance because the heel of my boot gets caught up on the seat. Also great to learn from a fellow new yorker. Thank you

nah, not for me. It makes sense for the officers, but for this regular rider, I will continue to unload on the low side. Its also a good exercise for the hips. Keeps things oiled and moving.
Great tip and thank you for your service and positivity
Thank you very much! It’s my pleasure. 😊
Been riding 60 years and also a retired LEO and leave it to a motor officer to teach me something I didn’t know, bravo! Great video I’ll be watching for more.

Hi Robert you make perfect sense as usual. Keep up the great work. Cheers 🥂.
Thank you very much!
Love the video, it really just blew my mind, thanks again.

holy crap! I had a few back surgeries that left my left leg not so reliable. an when getting on embarrassing or painfull or both. my roadking looking fatboy gets loaded hard for I enjoy travel an camping. after I tried your tip, I was blown away at how simple it was!.. wow!? effortless. no pain.
I watched a young lady who taught me how to throw the bike up straight, from kick stand. with bum leg.
Now with this combo I feel a lot better now for my travels knowing this. thank you so much!! Bo

Hi, I have a 1992 Kawasaki police 1000. I have a whip antenna and radio box on it. I have seen motor officers mount from the right side. And understood the logic of not stepping in traffic. But I am not a cop. I am 300 pound guy. Thank you for showing me the technique and weight distribution for the right side mount. My fear of my size was pulling the machine over on top of me. Incidentally, I lost count how many times I hit that radio box with my foot or leg. Thanks for the video

I rode dirt bikes as a teenager but never did this. I learned a lot, thank you.

It's amazing how motorcycles remind me of horses. And like mounting a horse, unless you're a gymnast, you put your foot in a stirrup. Same thing here 😉
I wrote this before he made the comment @9:38 😁

I've been riding for 20+ years, always (did) mounting from the low side, but this makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you!! In motorcycle training course they stressed mount your bike like your riding a horse from the left side. Your way helps a lot.

Excellent video Robert. Wish I knew this long ago. Better late then never.
Thank you very much! Absolutely!👍🏾

The only thing I like with this is you clear the major height obstacles right away. This gives you less chance of misjudging the movement.
