My mom sold my collection at a yard sale when I was a teenager. I had the original Grayskull, Fright Zone, Snake Mountain, and over 80 figures. It makes me cry every time I think about it. No doubt in my mind, I would still be playing with it today as a 32 year old man.

You can tell how much love there is for these toys when he opens the jawbridge using He-man holding his sword, rather than the guy just poking the sword in like a key. If He-man himself doesn't do it, it doesn't count!

What made the vintage toys so cool was the packaging artwork. You would get lost for hours and days just looking at the artwork. So much going on. A lot of details. A lot of use of different colors. A lot of times I would hold the package more than the actual toy.
My god, the quality is incredible! Mattel has done it this time! Seriously, the original does not even compare! This is amazing!
I remember my father made me one in cardboard alike and he drew the skull and detailed the teeth of greyskull, and it had two sides as well as a front and with snake windows. It was not a real play-set, but it could be used in any way you wanted and store several figures inside. Back in the 80'ties the Greyskull castle cost a lot, so we had to build on our own. My father made me a play-set with the snake mountain as well, with a door that opened with a string. Very simple :-) This is one great play-set and maybe now a days i'll consider buying one, maybe :-)

MBJ861 that was really nice of him, reminds me of the time when I would play inside my home made Robin Hood hideaway for hours on end, in my bedroom (I'm a 90s kid) sadly most kids today would not except home made toys, heck they don't even play with toys any more! Which I think is tragic...
You should ask your Dad to help you build a new one.

Dude its a JAW bridge not a draw bridge. "By the power of Grayskull I command the JAW bridge open! " otherwise great review but as a hard core fan I had to nitpick that.
SavageGrenadier25 Nope. It is specifically called a Jawbridge. Drawbridges are different, as they have chains attached at the top to open & close them.

I would like them to design a Castle Greyskull that could be ever expanded with a modular lock system. Allowing for more room scenes to be added in. Such has hallways, or going inside the dungeon, a medical bay perhaps....etc
Great idea, although something like that did happen already. Both Point Dread and the Eternia plaset were intended to link up to Castle Grayskull. The 2002 version also had an expansion set that added a back wall to the castle.

Speaking as a Graphic Designer,I must say the box art on this is incredible!Love it and I hope to one day create a image just as epic.
The stickers on the trapdoor & in the cell really kicked off the nostalgia for me.

All those weapons, technology and secrets and yet the only person who lives there is the Sorceress. Otherwise it's empty most of the time.
That was a revision to the storyline introduced in the 1983 Filmation cartoon. The 1982 Castle Grayskull toy was originally intended to be a fortress that the heroes and villains would fight over, as shown on the box art and in the early minicomics.

Seeing this box took me back 30 years to when I got my Grayskull, and as much as this video makes me want to collect one, I'm not quite ready to spend the $300 plus right now.

If money and space were not an issue, I would have collected this entire line. Shipping the figs to Canada became too much for me to handle. This is arguably the greatest figure line of all time.
Dan, you didn't catch (by mention) that the gargoyle deco above the second floor window was designed after the pull cord on the original elevator. ;-)
I was going to mention that myself. By the by, the window that it was placed over was never a full open window in the original. Great to see that it actually is open this time around.
Yer I racking my brain trying to think back to my oridganal one. I'm shaw elivator had a pull string cord. Cool. As I set my salf a goal. I am building castle gray skull outta Lego .but whant it to be same as the oridganal ..it whant be completed till then .
I would actually place the bronze variant King Grayskull figure where the space armor goes.

Do you think we will ever get a Grayskull "Throne Room" Sorceress variant made especially for the castle and to sit in the throne? I know I would pick it up.
If I was a ten year old kid getting this? I'd be having kittens about 30 seconds into this!!! Admit it..... You would aswell....
So one fact about the dungeon. I’m not saying it was designed to be small but, if you ever been to a real European castle dungeon, they actually are very small. It was meant for the prisoner to be uncomfortable, so you would have to be bent somewhat to fit in one.

I want one. I’d even buy some of the main cast figures including She Ra just to display them in it. That looks amazing.
If they need anymore ideas for future figures, they should make that space suite into an actual articulated figure.
Boy, I just got warped back to 1986 when I used to play with my original Grayskull set. Great to see the new one! I really like the Classics series. It's targeted towards such a specific demographic. Kids today will never understand just how great we had it when it came to growing up in the 80s. Someone invent a Time Machine!

Man, they CLEARLY just didn't give a damn on the old version - just what looks like black spray paint kind of randomly sprayed over certain areas. Then the 200X version...orders of magnitude worse. What a pile of crap. Of course this new one is cool but there is no way I could shell out $300 as an adult for a "playset"...lol.
These were $300 new and now sell for well over $1,200 on ebay in 2020.
God i love the fact that i can go back and watch these amazing videos ! I'm a new he man fan fell in love with it after Netflix of course but i had all the cool and rare ones as a kid but i was a tmnt kid

The floor piece with the hole for the stand should've extended out further to the other piece. Should have way more floor space, especially for the Wind Raider, combat trainer and the weapons rack.

well not exactly, I love some 80s cartoons, but I mean those who are the same type, a guy the super powers and all this stuff, and actually I dont like the art style of these cartoons, where the characters looks ugly (IMO)..

I just got the vintage 2021 Castle Grayskull with Temple of Darkness Sorceress.

The price on this playset on Ebay is horrendous!!! Around 2K, that´s more than the Super 7 Snake Mountain on Ebay. And that is way bigger. Wish I had the cash for both, this is the best version of Castle Grayskull that I have seen. The new Origins version of Grayskull doesn´t even come close in my opinion.

It would be great to see the Space Suit armor to get a action figure form. If there is going to be one. Who's going to be in a suit? With a helmet be removable is wondering what kind of head sculpt would it be.

A piece of concept art was made for it as a brand new character called "Jet Pak". He even appeared in minicomic. His head would have resembled Flash Gordon actor Buster Crabbe.
@@rocketcon Super7 needs to make a figure based on the concept Jet Pak, appearance in mini comic and the Greyskull Space Suit.

I always said CG should have been a $200 playset. Mattel drastically overpriced it. Grayskull is great, but Mattel really took advantage of fan nostalgia. I think fans were just happy to get Castle Grayskull that they would pay anything. I think Mattel did a great job making fans believe it wouldn't be made that when they revealed it fans were desperate to get it. I cancelled my preorder when certain things weren't changed during the design. I wanted a $300+ playset and I don't think that's what was released. I'm glad I passed. $150 + tax is a much better price tag. Actually, less than I was willing to pay. I feel bad for the fans who paid the original price tag. I highly doubt Mattel would sell CG for a huge loss. No matter how much they justify (justified) the cost of production. So I would bet 150 is about cost for Grayskull.
FWIW many companies will liquidate slow moving stock below cost. Keep in mind that warehousing stock costs money, so at a certain point it does become a case of simply cutting losses vs. continuing to take a bath on something.

I didn't have $150 to shell out for this at MattyCollector's website. I now have the money to buy the 2002 edition for $150 with 4 2002 figures. I can't decide whether to pick it up. It is 20% off today.

The 2002 version is garbage. Unless those 4 figures are really rare ones like Teela, Evil-Lyn, Roboto and Fisto, I would just keep saving up and get the MOTUC Castle Grayskull. It is 10 times better than the 1982 playset, and 100 times better than the 2002 version.

My Castle Greyskull never had a secret passage and it came with a weapons rack and had a third floor, but no skull at the top of the elevator. No space armor, no orb holder, and the chair was said in the instructions to be for Stratos. These differences are really strange. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something because it seems like you're saying these things were part of the original castle from the eighties, However, I loved this series and had so many of the toys.

I wonder if the guy on the box is the same kid on the original.
I don't like the positioning of the gun handles, would look far better if they were to be held straight vertically rather than horizontally.
So much more detailed than the original.
I would display it with my vintage motu figures. As kid I always thought the playsets were too small for the figures, so it seems to me this massive castle sits perfect for the vintage line. I bet this way vintage He-man and battle cat can finally fit through the jaw bridge 😁😁😁!!
