I remember my mom buying me this when I was a kid. She bought me a used one at a Hispanic flea market in El Paso Tx. I remember her paying 50 cents for it and it was missing some parts but I loved it. One day I left it on the couch folded up n my grandmother had came to visit n she woke up at night to use the restroom and all she could see was a shadowy evil face on the couch looking at her. She woke us all up with her screaming. Good memories, thank you.

You make a fairly valid point. In my case, I guess that if money wasn't a problem and I had a collection of MOTU Classics except for this item, probably I would have made the investment -if only for having a complete collection; but most certainly, for such a hefty price, I was expecting a lot more features.

Awesome review Dan! Personally I think they dropped the ball making the stairs so worthless. I can see people wanting to use this to display their collections in dramatic poses and fight sequences. Idk why they wouldn't make the stairs just a little bit bigger. This takes up so much space people are going to it to double as shelf space to keep their collections. That prison is a mess. It should have been wider to fit at least 2 figures in and block that hole with a solid wall. The bust away wall should have been several interlocking pieces that shatter when hit vs falling over. Lastly I'd have made the blood waterfall semi transparent and the crystal ball on the table transparent with a small LED and include a viewmaster like disk with several images of he-man and crew. The LED could cast the image from the disk onto the inside of the crystal ball to emulate Skeletor spying on them. For $600 I think these are all reasonable inclusions. Love the monster pit, throne and table regardless.
I never 'got' MOTU, or ever owned any of the toys - I was far too old when it first became popular. (Although I thought the Dolph Lundgren movie was, and is, great fun. Don't judge me!) Saying that, Nowadays, I do find the figures somewhat fascinating, and it's great that there are lots of people, like your good self, who love them, and have kept MOTU alive. Thanks!
You should do a commercial that's old school like the Street Sharks commercial where they had stackable cups and the pencils to karate chop and a tiny pool of water, I've always wanted to duplicate a set like that with the water, the cups, the lighting and some sandpaper that's supposed to be the dirt and gravel part. Sets for marketing action figures in the early 90s were awesome!
Thanks for the in-depth look, Pixel Dan. it's interesting that you mentioned the playset being smaller than originally projected. That certainly would seem to account for the cave entrance, the wolf locker, and the jail cell all seeming to be too small. Also, that war table has a spot that appears to be where a button was once planned. Perhaps for a light up feature? This project was clearly a major undertaking for Super 7. But so much of this premium set feels like it was unfinished. Possibly even rushed at the very end -- so the project could finally get out the door and off the books. It'd be really interesting to here what the original production plan for this project had been.
Dan, I want to thank you for all your videos and information on this toyline over the years. I am 39 years old, loved the vintage figures as a kid and was obsessed with MOTU at an early age, but it was your review of MOTUC Skeletor that first made me aware of the new line and got me back into this franchise. You reawakened my love for MOTUC and I now have almost every figure they have made (except that damn Slime Pit He-man that costs a million quid on Ebay) Your enthusiasm, honesty, passion and dedication made me love these toys and characters all the more and for that I am eternia-ly grateful.
This brings me back so many memories of my Childhood from the 1980's and I never forgotten about this playset at all because it was the coolest thing I've seen in my life so far and I'm almost 43 years old this coming autumn of 2021

It was some coin for sure but I play with it every time I walk past it. Works with all my vintage figures, 200x, classics and origins ...no one looks out of place. They did a great job honestly.
Love seeing the scale compatibility with the vintage figures. Thanks for doing that! And World Smallest looks pretty awesome in there, really captures the magnitude of the Filmation cartoon.

Great review Dan! I started watching your channel because of your Master of the Universe Classics review so many years ago. Snake Mountain looks so awesome.
Thanks people like Dan makes these videos so people like me, who aren't able to afford an item like this (because of both price and availability), can see it in almost full detail. As a kid back in the 80's, I was lucky enough to own 3 playsets from MOTU: Castle Grayskull, Snake Mountain and The Fright Zone. Before you think that I was born in a wealthy family because of this, I really wasn't; I didn't get Eternia and those playsets were the only ones I ever got as a child back then -no USS Flagg, Boulder Hill, etc. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Snake Mountain. Yes, even The Fright Zone being smaller had more fun features than Snake Mountain, but still I had lots of fun with all those playsets as a child and I treasure those memories to this very day. This MOTU Classics Snake Mountain definitely has things going on for it like the sculpt, the lava fall, the shackles, the bone throne, the table with the orb, the creatures below the net... That being said, I get a feeling that this item's intented full set of features were surely hampered when the project was shut down at Mattel and then picked up by Super 7; some stuff must have been lost in the way and it notices.
Taking a break from Transformers collecting and jumped down the MOTU rabbit hole. Been really enjoying your videos and you've gotten me to spend a few thousand lol. I ordered this playset today from BBTS and can't wait to set it up. Thank you for your in depth reviews.
Looks like the old snake mountain. I had the old snake mountain from the 80s collectibles. Boy i miss those days. Wanted to go backvto those days. Felt being a child with these toys
I don't blame anyone that bought this thing. I bought the giant x-men Sentinel which is probably just as silly as this. Being a little silly is good in these times. Now time to play with toys.
Its cool for about 2 seconds before you realized its a $700 paper weight. They could've put so many little inexpensive features in this. A few lights, small speaker, a Boulder (Indiana Jones type that runs down the bridge), rubber hand puppet, pull string elevator, inner ramps/stairs, Interior weapon racks, even a little moat directly under the snake head that sucked water up and out the snakes mouth like the lava on 200x snake mountain design.
I think its brilliant that snake mountain gets the love. However it is one gimmick: the size. Once you get past that it will get old very quickly. While its nice that there is the bone throne and table in there, you cant fit the throne and table on one level (nit picky i know) what else can you do with it? Hmmm not much really. An expensive good lucking backdrop/shell with some nice touches.
I used to have the original. I took apart the micro phone when I was like 10, it had a small audio amplifier with an LM820M. The strange sound effect was simply made by springs running the length of the plastic holder connected above the microphone. Speaking wobbled the springs that made a spooky voice
I get the nostalgia which is great cause it is a callback to the original set but tbh it's not worth the $600 with some of its issues it looks like it should have cost atleast $200-250 maybe $300 if it had the electronics
@@AintNobodyAtAllBullshit, it was made to order, you won't get 10,000 customers if the initial price tag was $750. I passed, a lot of people passed, we know this product is not $750, some crazy nuts may pay more in the after market, but that is their problem, this as a $350 product the most.
@@Lycano23 I certainly do not agree. In business there must be guarantees built on estimates. To have this thing come to fruition, they needed to calculate minimum cost, where they also could get a profit from it. I would say that profit was no more than 100-150 USD per set if it hit the minimum (To which they estimated the price to be, which is fair in my book). Then every set ordered above the minimum order is just profit minus production costs. But hey, what do I know about their calculations and economy when conducting business :)
I can live with most of the issues you spoke of with it. The only thing I really expected was there to be extension floor plates just like what they did with Grayskull. Thanks for the video, great job with it. It's surreal to be at this point with Classics, but this playset was one heck of a way to end it.
I agree but than it would have Been 800$ plus shipping lol this was a rush and they wanted to cash in before the licence expired hence the short comings
It definitely looks naked without floor pieces. Grayskull spoiled is in that regard. The part about most figures not fitting in the dungeon sucks. Guess I have to lock up Orko. At least we still have the shackles on the outside.
@@phils6733 Oh I know that more internal items would have cost more in labor/shipping/time, but even to have led up to it's release with things for it, like the weapons rack having been released way before Grayskull was. But like you said, time was of the essence, and Super7, I feel, did the best they could. It's still something they should be proud of having even been released.
@@adrionjones Agreed. My issue with the jail part on this set is that if so many other components have to be removed to close it, then why not have made a jail that at least incorporated the right open side, and also came out 3 to 4 more inches? Again, I understand budgets, timeframe, and even ROI were all a part of this, and I know that compared to Mattel, Super7 isn't near the size or capability in some respects to have made a lot of that happen. I do feel that the positives outweigh the negatives though. I didn't get a Snake Mountain, but I am ecstatic for all that did. It's one heck of an amazing looking playset, and to see the scale next to Pixel Dan was just mindboggling. I have Classics Grayskull sitting on the other side of my studio, and that thing to me was huge, but Snake Mountain is just overpoweringly cool in so many ways.
Awesome Review. Thanks for the great video. I think the playset really shines with the Vintage/Origins figures. Congrats on owning such an awesome display piece.
Thank you very much Dan for this epic and emotional review, the last Motu Classics review, (for now I hope), it's so beautiful and great playset and thanks to you for describe part for part to know it, take care so much and blessings to you and the Pixel family! 😀👍😎🤘
I wasn’t allowed to play with He-man as a kid so I have no particular nostalgia for it but sheesh this is awesome! I can’t believe how massive it is! (That’s what she...) lol. And that poster is beautiful! Great video as usual Dan!
I'm looking forward to getting mine, even if a lot of the features have been scaled down so much that they're actually useless. I wish it wasn't the end of Classics though.
Amazing review, Dan! This is a fantastic capper on the line, and I hope everyone that wanted one was able to get one, and that they're super happy with it. I think I would have bought it if it was just the left half of the mountain, though I realize that a lot fewer people would have been interested in that.
I don’t know why everyone is complaining about the jail cell being to small. That little section is the door and the cave next to IS the rest of the cell... 🤷♂️
A lot of the complaints that I see in the comments and "they should have done this or that" comments (including my own). I do believe that we all need to understand, this could not have been a big profit maker for super 7. This was more of a fan service, it could have ended with no snake mountain at all and there are a lot of logistics involved that a lot of man babies out there don't understand..I think we're lucky enough to get this and shouldn't nitpick too much on the price vs features cause there are peoples time and paychecks in between this toy and the consumer.
This is awesome. So much detail and it's gigantic! Not sure I would have had room for this growing up. Too bad there's no microphone with high-end PA system :) Great review Thank for sharing
I feel vary annoyed that they didnt put much thought into it, i think they just wanted to make it look almost identical to the original and get our hopes up that we'd beable to put the classics all around it..but the stairs being too narrow and the cellar being literally too small for any figures and the missing wall theres really no point of making it a cellar. And the fact it cant exactly close up proporly and secure sucks. Id say its valued at maybe $500 or $450
20:40 I don't know anything about the production process but have heard that injection molds for figures could cost $30-100k, and if that playset uses the same process it must cost up to a million. setting up electronics for one would cost couple of bucks. yea it'd be multiplied by number of units but how many of these did they really sell?
Hey Dan is there anyway you can make a playlist for just your Masters Of The Universe Classics vids? I would like to watch them all in order without having to skip all the non Classics vids...Thanks
Wow, know i have goosebumps. I watch you since 2013 and i also collect the Classics Line since then. Thank you Dan for all this wonderful and informative videos. Also thank you that my Homeoffice room is know full of motu figures 😉😂 Good wishes from Germany
Love how it looks, it´s a real art piece and display item for ages to come. A lot of cool little details and big ones to explore and look at. The table and the throne are some of the best things for sure. I wish they would sell those items loose for collectors, just those items alone would make a difference for displaying your figures and building scenes. Skeletor is not suppose to sit down, no rest for the wicked :D That must be one of the greatest toy achievements ever made together with the Star Wars Sail Barge. Perfect, no, i see some issues and misses., The dungeon being to small is one and like you said, the steps not being wide enough or properly sculpted so figures can stand on the front is a let down and wasted opportunity. Not closing properly or being able to store items are some other issues. But it is a great set and art piece, love how it works so well together with the vintage figures. Great review Dan!
That being said it is still a nice piece. Do i think the price is justified for what it is? No. I do like the homages to the filmstion and the vintage model but are there a lot of places there to pose your figures? It sounds like im being negative and i really dont want to be but i think if you took away the size what would you have? However it is great that we actually get a snake mountain at all and i fo think it is a fitting way for the classics line to end on.
It sounds like to me that they got in over their head with this playset and had to make drastic last minute changes that have caused some issues. What I want is a Castle Grayskull that is modeled on the box art that is for that new crappy Grayskull Origins.
Wow awesome review Dan and i would love to get one of these but it is way out of my budget range just like the classic Castle. If i could get my hands on a bone throne and the bone table that would be awesome.
Man I want this one and the ewok village too. So many not enough money heck I wanna get all the huge playsets from motu, star wars, transformers, maybe the voltron sets, I'd even get that gi joe carrier, some oh mask at least the big rig, damn that's awesome sir, very very awesome! Got inspired I did, thanks for sharing my dude
For $600, the paints are poor and real shoddy in some places. There's lots of smaller, technical issues (like the prison gate being unable to close), zero electronics, etc. The sculpt is also incredibly soft in a lot of places.
@@thespaceram2879 Yes, but at the end of the day, a large portion of the cost is going to the increased overhead from the limited production run. This is something that probably never should have been made from a demand point of view, so there's an upcharge just to justify producing it for the relatively few people who actually want it.
After Mattycollector disappeared, I've had a hard time keeping up with the MOTU Classic figures. Every time I google in search of retailers, all I get is Ebay and the website that supposedly took over the line. I just can't seen to find the right one.
Trivia: Snake mountain and the throne room originally belonged to Hordak. But Skeletor claims that it now belongs to him. So Hordak ended up with the fright zone.
I think it looks amazing and I have it on order, but I would be lying of I wasnt a little disappointed with some of the finishes. I just wish they had done the stairs a little better to allow more figures to stand and for the jail cell to be a little larger. Still looks an absolute beast of a playset though!

MY EYES ARE SHINING BEHOLD THATS WONDERFULL TREASURE!! AWESOME!!
Wow, what a Debbie Downer.
at least CG had the extra flooring you could add in. Nothing on this and the upper level is apparently questionably flimsy? not helping!
As 4the prison... most ppl captured in war, generally have their armor and weapons removed.🤷🏾♂️😉 Yeah I wish it were bigger too.👍🏾
Haha good point!
You know I was thinking. This would be better scale for Origens
Economy of scale worked against it, in my opinion. If there were 10,000 customers for this thing, it could have been cheaper.
@@berkajr3685 only 150 USD profit?! LOL just a big LOL... They had way more profit.
Yeah. The electronics is what sticks out the most for me when I remember the OG snake mountain.
both grayskull and snake mountain together @ 32min... beautiful together.... huuuuge!! but looks really nice tho👍 id like to have it
Great in depth review. The piece that was just a sticker before with the tentacles is amazing!
Thank you for the extensive review Pixel Dan!!
If the throne, table and monster pool were available just by themselves I would definitely buy them. All in all a great vintage style playset.
I love your opening credits. So much. Great review too! Cheers!
@@theartisanrogue Yeah. I ordered it. Just waiting for mine to arrive.
Managed to track one down! Today is the day finally it arrives,so good to see motu back on your channel
That looks amazing. I just cannot justify spending that much money. This hobby has become to expensive for me.
Yup. Well over $1000 in Australia. Just ridiculous.
Thank god origins grayskull is only 70 buckd
@@IStandForTJandTAW Fingers crossed for a Snake Mountain!
This guy a “influencer” he got this for free grantee
Awesome Dan! Can't believe it's been 13 years.
My God, THIS is the stuff childhoods are made of!
SOOOOO awesome! Super envious of everyone who got one.
Snake mountain would be perfect for the retro heman line
Unlike the original, this one includes interior accessories: Skeletor's Bone Throne, Red Crystal Ball Table, Weird Creatures and so on.
I can see my 5 years old self totally in love with this set
I wasn’t allowed to play with He-man as a kid so I have no particular nostalgia for it but sheesh this is awesome! I can’t believe how massive it is! (That’s what she...) lol. And that poster is beautiful! Great video as usual Dan!
When you said "good journey"? I felt that.
this is great I used to watch this as a kid every day!
Well, I ended up buying it and I love it. :)
I don’t know why everyone is complaining about the jail cell being to small. That little section is the door and the cave next to IS the rest of the cell... 🤷♂️
If you ever lose your job you can live in Snake Mountain.
Yeah! It's Snake Mountain time on Pixel Dan channel ! A so nice unboxing and live already! I'm waiting for it, since Castlegrayskull's review Haha!
Awesome review, Dan!!! Thank you so much!!! Wish I was living in the US to get this more easily...
This looks so much better with the vintage figures! Plus, the dungeon would work!
Great job Dan!! A big hug from Spain! 🤗🇪🇸
Great video Dan I'm still waiting for mine to ship.
What a perfect, perfect review.
Id say its valued at maybe $500 or $450
Can the masterverse figures fit snake mountain and castle greyskull from Motu classics?
Excellent review! Thank you! I hope to get my hands on one of these, someday.
Also thank you that my Homeoffice room is know full of motu figures 😉😂
Good wishes from Germany
Love how it looks, it´s a real art piece and display item for ages to come. A lot of cool little details and big ones to explore and look at.
The table and the throne are some of the best things for sure. I wish they would sell those items loose for collectors, just those items alone would make a difference for displaying your figures and building scenes.
Skeletor is not suppose to sit down, no rest for the wicked :D
That must be one of the greatest toy achievements ever made together with the Star Wars Sail Barge.
"The bone throne" is what my boyfriend calls his recliner
Excellent work! Best review all youtube!
What an incredible send-off to the line that was Masters Of The Universe Classics!
Funny that Skeletor can spy on anyone from that table but never see Prince Adam/He-Man transformation.
Same with Superman
Great review Dan. Looks amazing 👏
It sounds like to me that they got in over their head with this playset and had to make drastic last minute changes that have caused some issues. What I want is a Castle Grayskull that is modeled on the box art that is for that new crappy Grayskull Origins.
hello sorry for the inconvenience I wanted to know how do you solve the dust problem with your collection
Wow awesome review Dan and i would love to get one of these but it is way out of my budget range just like the classic Castle. If i could get my hands on a bone throne and the bone table that would be awesome.
Great job Dan!
Classic Castle Greyskull being for less than half is more impressive.
Box legend says it was King Hissss' first?
Wish it came with floor base like castly grayskull has, looks heavy to carry, does it have a microphone voice changer like the vintage snake mountain?
I think it looks amazing and I have it on order, but I would be lying of I wasnt a little disappointed with some of the finishes. I just wish they had done the stairs a little better to allow more figures to stand and for the jail cell to be a little larger.
Still looks an absolute beast of a playset though!
