Who needs a drone when you have a plane! Now Mike all you need is a few gopros to strap the the wings that would be awesome footage.
Yea
Brian, the man who won't go up a ladder but drives airplanes 😄💪
ive been a pilot for 15 years and doing it for a living for 12, i wont do ladders either
Nobody drives an Airplane !
@@danhalverson3618 geez thanks 😂
This is one sprayer where you DON’T want the booms to drag on the ground.
Haha that's very true!
Mike Mitchell When I was younger and we sometimes had to spray with planes before GPS existed it was my job to stand in the field holding a flag that the pivot aimed at. Not much for protective clothing and you certainly got WET.
Pilot not pivot😂🤣
I have done that! But not the flags, mostly just recording
Mike Mitchell We had one field where the pilot had to fly under a low power line at the end of the field by the main road and then STEEPLY climb to miss the neighbors tall trees.
Leaving the field was not too bad when compared to entering the field where the pilot nose dived once over the trees to get under the power line.
Many times Canola was on the plane wheels indicating who close to the ground he got.
😬😱
Our local crop duster uses military grade night vision to spray at night. Good for the bees 🐝 & wind is calm. Says he can see better than during the day. Uncle Sam knows he has the night vision goggles as he had training to use them. Good video Mike!
Night vision goggles are not military secrets aymore. I bought a simple single tube handheld from a department store. It would be easy to upgrade to milspec by increasing gain and swapping the red near-IR LED to black true-IR.
Absolutely love the air tractor sounds amazing. Wish I could afford to go to school.
The cockpit looks less complicated than the inside of a tractors cab .
Working at your farm would be such a dream I bet. All the equipment you have. All the expertise you employ. Really taking farming to the next level.
Dang Mike you keep surprising us with all kinds of fun toys 🤪
Pilots are brave souls.. Kudos to your brother Bryan 💖
Brian going to do a fly-by and drop confetti on the wedding?
Capt. morgan and coke 😄
I Love to see your passion for farming it is nice to see young people in farming
That sound of a turboprop just awesome
Never gets old!
Loved the video Mike. My dad sprayed crops for a living in Arkansas (NE, rice and soybeans) and Kansas (winter wheat) for 13 years while growing up. I loved it. His favorite airplane was the turbine Air Tractor. Make sure Brian uses the "flaps" when turning, it's much quicker and tighter turns.
How exactly does one use flaps for a turn? Flaps just increase drag and lift.
@@shawnclements14you just explained it, it creates lift and the slower your plane is, the faster you can turn. Or at least that’s what I understand. I thought it was a universally know fact the flaps help turning. Even the WW2 Army Air Corp used flaps when turning.
@@hairlesscat6458 I was under the impression flaps were for landing and take off purposes. Ailerons have the leverage needed for turning, flaps are to close to the fuselage. I'm no pilot tho so I could be mistaken 😂😂
Thank you Mike for letting us watch the action.
I read the comments i enjoy the replies you gave.
Say hi to your brother and thank you.
Have a great day.
Man hats off to this operation. Takes a lot of planning to get all these moving parts going in the right direction and at the right time. The sheer size of it is mind boggling.
Awesome, Brian got the plane, What you need Mike is a Horizontal flying umbrella (AH-64 Apache) for checking the crop's. Awesome.
Of all the farming equipments, this is the most impressive. Spraying at 145 mph!
Awesome, awesome, just awesome, thank you so much for sharing that, yeah I'm an aviation nut 👍👍
super cool vid mike thank you us non farming folks would not see if ever any of the things we see thanks to you thank u my freind, peace
Love the sound of the Air Tractor as we call them around here. These are built just north of me and I see them fly over often.
The Air Force has been using several of these in testing to use as close air support to help take some of the burden off the A10. From what I have seen the results have been good.
Built in Olney Texas
You're full of surprises I'd seen the plane in other footage somewhere but didn't think about it being yours !!! Company I worked for hired many different private applicators and there were some pretty unique guys ! Some of their planes could haul 1000 gal and spray incredible amount of acres ,they had huge investments but got BIG paycheck's!!! They traveled the whole country and worked pretty much year round ! Having that at your disposal is quite the trick !!! Love your vids , keep it up !!!!
Thanks Lee!
Thanks for all the explaining
Very intresting learning lesson 😂
Great video Mike nice looking spray plane
1:20 Ow how i miss waking up to that sound. Eatonia’s runway runs along the southside of town. If i heard that sound and was still in bed it meant that it was 7am and i had slept in. Hahaha.
You had too much fun with the dirt road flyover 👍👍👍
Thanks for putting in the time for this one Mike, I enjoyed this video a lot, keep up the good work.
You know your a large operation when you have your own Air Tractor
Pretty cool you guys have your own spray plane !! Enjoy your channel ! Brian Brown sent me here. From Indianapolis area.
Quite the process!
Always wanted to see how it worked thanks Mike great video
I agree always wanted someone to vlog it
Ohh ohhh I’m getting excited we’re getting closer to workshops haha
That's the kind of video I like
Super cool that you guy have a plane, more vids on that plizzz
Sweet video Mike great to see something completely different to a normal farm
Needless to say, I am impressed.
Congrats on the 50k, Mike! Still, 950k to go!!
Haha holy cow.. I think Zach only has 500+? 😂 🤷♂️
How manny additional follower you need to get an X9 test combine this year for free ? 😉
@@jurgenl5053 I already asked and left a lot of comments on John Deere channels about giving Mike a demo with the 9x. But more comments will help him 100 %.
I actually said to myself that if this actually helps Mike to get his free demo - I'm going to be the happiest person in the world.
Prb another 50k lol 😂 🤷♂️ I dunno
Hey thanks guys for that, I guarantee you it helps! They check those comments
That thing sounds wicked dang. No def on this puppy 😆 thanks mike
Mike I was wondering if you guys do your own maintenance on the 402 or have other sources to maintain it? That thing is awesome 👍
A two man operation. For sure. Where did learn to fly. That highly skilled job
Nice work of the pilot 👌🏻
Hey Mike awesome video. That sure does beat going 18 mph in the amazon. Have a good day and be safe.
Yo be honest I didn’t think these were ever used anymore! Amazing to see one
Great duster. I have flown many of these but with Garrett engines which make the plane more responsive
The take off was awesome!!! :D
Awesome thank you mike great footage too
I think we all can agree. More plane footage!
Can you do a video explaining how Brian keeps accuracy in the field when spraying and the overall pros and cons of spray planes. Would love to see it.
Google ag planes crop dusting.
Lots of in depth videos.
They are so accurate that you don't waste chemicals
Love the plane videos! Keep on keeping on!
Hey Mike, I loved every minute of it. I took flying lessons back in the 70's and have about 6 logged and about 7 unlogged hours. I live near between Lodi and Stockton California. USA and fly my drone between the two open areas. My dad was an aviation mechanic before he retired. I love just about anything that flies except flies and mosquitoes. lol
Cheers..Eugene
Always take off and land into the wind Mike! Love the sound of that turbo prop also. My brother flies a 9cyl radial spray plane. Its intense
Lots of people are now converting radials engine air tractors with Turbo Diesel engines
Sweet mike never seen a plane get feld thanks mike
It is a powerful sound from a turboprop.
Mike you may get lucky someday if they are doing a major highway near you somewhere and get the ground up asphalt for just trucking cost . Worth looking into ,then all you have to do is scrap the dirt off then level the ground up asphalt and pack .It would work good
That's an interesting point. The highway that just runs near their yard is notorious for needing work. He might be able to catch a favour/swing a deal from the RM when it's fixing it up.
So envious he can fly a plane! With that amount of chemicals in his plane how much land did he spray? God's blessing and fly safe
Great loading sequence!
I wanna be a crop duster so bad lol
Mikey PAVE that Runway... Think of all the Drag Cars and Snowmobiles we could build in the Winter Time..
Maybe add bleachers and Snack Bar
If you Build it 🌽 They Will Come 👍👍😀🚗💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
Haha RUclips and Patreon is going to have get alot bigger for that 😂 🤷♂️
Stephen the movie field of dream "if you build it they we come".
@@scruffy6151 😂Yup Field of Dreams
Way UP there in Canada You would think everyone would want to come to a Strip Club 🚗💨💨💨💨💨💨 😂
Darn good demo - thanks! 👍 - Doug in Iowa
I feel like you need to do the lunch hand motions that the deck crew in top gun did. Lol
We get our contractor to land in a grass/ sand field with at 501s and 402s
But we're at sea level
Can get bigger wheels for them though
Helps in soft ground and gives the plane a more nose up angle also helps with shorter take off in soft ground
Need a water hose at each end of the runway to nmmix at each end
Makes turn around alot faster if your filling at the down wind end of the strip
Yeah that's good idea!
But then he would need fuel.. And there's only one big tank
Only have to fuel every 8th load or something
Our contractor just runs a mix truck
I cart water to him
He's got 6000lts storage (can't move full
Chem trailer and 4000lts of deisel for the plane
He just bases himself from the closest Or most central field with the most suitable flat, straight, rock and wood free bit of ground
That's very interesting, Brian loads every other load, he keeps his tanks less than half or something to allow him to caryy more water.
@@mikemitchell2554
Maybe altitude has more effect than I think
I'm no pilot
We're only 2km off the coast so basically at sea level
This bloke always totally fills his fuel and water
Almost all of the Ag planes have a packed dirt/gravel runways here in southern Idaho. With 800 gallon tanks. And 4400-4700 feet of elevation. Might be an option over pavement. I’m sure you have your reasons. Great video. Keep it up.
I live in East Idaho and I would say we use roughly the same planes and same runways however we are at 6000 feet elevation so we can’t carry quite as much
Holy cow! 6000ft?!😳
Here I was complaining about 3-3200ft! 😂 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️
@@mikemitchell2554 I've seen these things fly and dump 800 gallons top of mountains around 7-8000 feet and theirs no room for error and they can land on water with special floats that can fill up the Hopper within 1 minute
And I'm sitting here in Germany where we are not allowed by law to spray when the wind is more than 7 mph and are super careful not to spray a bit too much or the wrong location. :D
Best video yet, thanks I have always wanted to know about that process
You need to modify the AT402 loading system over to the aircraft right hand side. This would save you a lot of loading time. The results would be an increased number of acres treated per hour, thus lowering your growing cost.
Your wheel stop/go time should be under 1 minute including refueling.
Good luck
DR
Holy crap.. Brian wouldn't like that, he needs to stretch his legs and walk after 250ac loads.. 350ac load is teh biggest he ll go in one shot..
Thank You always wondered that as Spray planes fly over our farm doing nearby fields
50k subs!! Woop woop 🙌
Haha yeah, it's quite something
A video of him spray spraying from his view would be interesting
Great vid mike!! Thanks man!!
Absolutely crazy ! 🤯🤯🤯
Wow bro 👌 nuff said 👊🤘
Hello Mike ,that was real up close view of a crop spraying plane . Thank you . How much airospraying do you do .😍😍😆👍👍. See Ya .
Instead of asphalt could you look at getting the pavement dressed in a road base rock and spray sealed like they do back country roads?.
Thats how we do outback runways in Australia
I am a little late watching this video. Congratulations on your Wedding Day. Catch you again.
Plans are so cool
Spraying with a plane lol.. get r done boyz fullsend
Mike - in a future video, can you speak to why you do some spraying with a plane and other spraying from the ground. What are the benefits?
Sure
I have soooo many questions... as we all do... you are in a VERY unique situation for great content! Please elaborate in a longer video. Possibly a gopro in the cockpit over the shoulder?
Flight plans?
Plane vs. Sprayer?
Does he fly over local fields, or distant fields, or both?
Possibly interview him? What's it like? How's he not get lost on which field?
It's windy there. Windshier? Handling when full vs lower fuel AND chem?
How many gallons does it hold, and rates?
Chem drift to neighboring fields?
Thank you! AND I foresee a "viral" video in your future!
A few answers that Mike already shared in the comments of the last few videos:
-they spray within a rough 30-40 km radius of their yard (it's the only airstrip they currently have).
- on a good day the cropduster can spray more acres then a self-propelled (I think he said up to 3x potentially).
-there are too many acres to do with the cropduster alone.
- the cropduster is more dependant on good weather conditions than the self-propelled and can't work at night.
-a massive advantage of the cropduster is it doesn't leave tracks especially in mature crops therefore maintaining potential yields.
That’s awesome , 160 mph spraying , I thought 16k was quick
I was corrected by Brian that he trys to maintain 145mph while spraying
Mike Mitchell that’s still dam fast
Do you know about Don C. Laubman, a ww2 ace of canadien royal air force from provost-Alberta?He is Canada's fourth highest scoring ace of WWII. The german called the canadien soldier lol just like you mike and your farming crew. zeal farmer ;)
Mike you seem to like to ride on machinery and make videos. Well just strap onto the 402 and make us some really cool videos!!!!!! LOL I can just see you wing walking or riding the cockpit like a horse. LOL
Haha don't temp me 😂 🤷♂️
Ohh and here I was waiting for you to jump in and fly, that’s be bette then drone footage mate,, u need a DJIAction to mount on it or tractors for better footage hehehe
Around me the spray pilots dive into and pull out of the fields cause of Trees here in Virginia and powerlines awesome to watch those guys around here with spray planes
Sometimes you'll see that here in SK, mostly for power lines but sometimes for trees or when a field runs alongside a highway.
Pretty kickass footage man
I’ll call our Cropduster on the phone and he will have a 10 minute conversation while he is spraying....I guess you just need a steady hand and big balls...
jjajajaaj, "adiós amigo" jja, very good Spanish
Wow Beautiful🥰🥰🥰🥰
We use these planes as water bombers for bushfires
Nice plane you men have, is it in the wedding ? lol.. Thanks for sharing Mike.
The scent of ammonia eases in the nasal passages.
Awesome video Mike! Very informative. Would you be able to pack your runway hard enough if you sprayed it with water and ran a packer over it?
I have done a couple of Hot section inspection and a lot of sudden stops on the gear boxes on 402 and 602's
You can tell you’ve done that plenty of times by how quick you worked those valves
Really cool!
Ah I miss that sound
What is your rate per acre of water? Back in the 50's they used to use diesel fuel as the carrier and they did a rate of 1/2 gal per acre.
Is this the first plane the farm has had or were there other models of crop dusters in the past? It would be cool to see photos of the older ones if so. I enjoy your channel the size of your family's operation is incredible.
This is the second spray plane.. But also have SR22 for personal use
@@mikemitchell2554 sr22 turbo? and what gen?
We had Cessna Ag truck 188 before . Now the 402 ,
And We started out with Piper warrior , then went to Sr 20 now Sr 22 G1.
Fun to watch those spray corn here!! Dodge all the power lines and haul ass!! Do you all own that plane??
I was with my uncle who has to respond to any emergency related to aircraft's and we got to the accident and there was a worker on the tarmac at a airport that wasn't paying attention and his head got cut in half by a prop. It was absolutely crazy how far away they found pieces of his head from the plane. There were several over 100 yards away
Yukkk!!! ☠🤤
Do you ever do a spray padern pass onto litmus paper strip. Those are a nice plane. A neighbour two miles south of us has a 802F and a Dromader. Thank you for the video update eh.
One paved runway = 1/3 of a combine😂🤣💵💰
Yeah but it takes more than one runway to get the combine up to the speed where it takes off ;-)
@@ITubeTooInc lol😂
Love crop aviation machines. However, I hate the farmers that use them. Simply because they spray insecticide to kill corn borer and do it from 50'-75' height. That spray drifts quite a distance with the wind. They have killed off the honey bees that pollinated our gardens. We have to use an artist paintbrush to pollinate our cucumbers, squash, zucchini, eggplant, and work to make sure the other vegetables are getting pollinated. We have thought about getting a couple of hives but their spraying insecticide would simply kill the colony of bees.
