I owned it for around 48h ! The focus motors are really louder than the 16mm, the autofocus is jerky and breathing really too often. That was really annoying on the Sony A6400, and little less with the Zv-E10, but still not as good as the 16mm, even with FW update 1.3 It's a really great lens for photography, or for filming in Manual mode. @Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis quick question. I shoot my videos inside and usually sit about 3 ft from my camera then I have my computer and stuff right behind me like 1 ft. Will i be able to get that blurry background or will I need to kind of move forward away from that stuff? And how far away would you say you are from your camera with that lense? Sorry for the long comment just trying to make sure I'll have the room I need for this setup
The 30 is too tight for that. Sitting 3 feet away will be an extreme closeup on your face. What focal length are you using now? Look for the Sigma 16mm. Having the things only foot behind you - things will still be blurry, but not very. A better idea is to have a nice backdrop that you don't mind being in focus.
I was definitely tempted by the Sigma 30mm/1.4 for my a6400. In the end I went with a second hand Sony 35mm 1.8 - which is a bit more compact and has OSS.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What of both lenses did you prefer. Is the difference between these two lenses big? I've got the Sony 35mm 1.8 and now struggle to send it back and get the Sigma one...
I have a Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8 that I use and punch into 50mm using the APSC mode. Seeing something with 1.4 with such fast autofocus for a fraction of the price hit close to that 50mm look seems like an absolute bargain by comparison. Sort of wish I did more research prior to buying the lens
Hi Mark, I follow you ... you are very strong! ;) I have a question for the zv-E10, what is the best lens between the Sigma 30mm F1.4 and the 16mm F1.4? Keep in mind that I only use it to make music videos with some external video shooting, I don't care about the photos and I don't care it takes me from 1 meter (I'm not a youtuber :)). The 30mm is lighter and has a more natural vision, isn't it? Thanks for the reply !
Great video as always Mark. Quick question, did you have to use a converter ring to use the lens with the ZV-E10? Sigma's product page lists this lens as an AF mount and suggests the use of the MC-11 converter ring, is this true? Thx!
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Just found your channel, thank you for the amazing content! Just got the ZVE10 with the Sony E 11mm F1.8 and the 55-210mm. I want a lens for portrait and street photography, between the sigma 30 and 56, which would you recommend? I loved the sharpness of the 56, but with the crop factor.. which would you buy? (Street, friends, family portraits). Best of luck Mark!
Hello, sir. I don't have much of a budget. Should I buy the ZV-E10 with the kit lens and the Sony 50mm prime lens, or the ZV-E10 body with the Sigma 30mm? Does Catalyst Browse work with the Sigma lens?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Cinematic video: I can't buy a gimbal, so if I skip the kit lens and only buy the Sigma lens, can Catalyst Browse stabilize my video?"
Mark, this was a helpful video. But, as I am new to looking at Sony lenses, I am still learning, and have zero prior experience with Sony cameras or lenses. Please give your opinion on which you think is better for portraits (so primarily used for still photos, very rarely for video if at all), on a Sony APSC camera (eg. A6500). I would buy a APSC body that has IBIS and Eye Focus. I appreciate the f1.4 of Sigma 30mm f1.4, but I also see there is a Sony 35mm f1.8 that does have OSS. If one likes to do natural light, hand-held photos (portraits etc,) then would the OSS on the Sony be preferable to the Sigma? Would there be other reasons to get the Sony instead of the Sigma? I checked prices today, and see the Sigma is $264 but I also found a Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Emount for $332. That is a $68 US difference. But, if the OSS on the Sony lens is very beneficial for this type of photography, it could be justified. I do not know if Lens OSS adds to the IBIS or conflicts or causes problems or if the camera defaults to one or if both is preferable. Please advise.
oss is helpful, but with ibis in the a6500, lens stabilization is less of an issue. The oss in the 35 will work with the ibis to create a slightly more stable image than ibis alone, but not much. the sony 35 is great, so you would probably be happy, but the only thing is that the 35 is a little wide for portraits. the 35 will give you a field of view of about 59mm in full frame terms. Most traditional portraits (head and shoulders type shots) are done with an 85mm equivalent so that would be a 56mm on the apsc cameras. But if you like the “50” look - then with the sony 35 or the sigma 30 would be a good choice. But you might as well do the 35 for that extra bit of stability
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you for your quick reply to my questions, and solid advice. I appreciate your experience with these cameras, lenses, and your POV about value and quality and ease of use. Your channel is now one of my favorites for camera related topics, because of your personality, honesty, very good tips, and humor (your comedy is clever and quick and witty and funny). I am going to watch many more of your videos. Keep up the good work. And thanks again for responding to questions in comments, as I have read every comment under each of your videos I have seen so far, and like what you wrote in your answers to others too. Very helpful.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your point on the Focal Length too. I would get the Sigma 56 you recommend for head and shoulders, but will also need to do some full length portraits too, or "environmental" type too, so the 30mm or 35mm was what I was considering for those shots where I need more wide FOV (or in tighter spaces). I would get both primes (56 + 35 or 30). The IBIS and/or OSS issue is my main concern, as I have not yet owned a camera body with IBIS (I have used Canon lenses with IS, which I like). I just don't know enough about how the IBIS and OSS may interact, in still photography, and I have not seen it mentioned when I read the Sony product pages for the lenses.
@@steadmanuhlich6734 yes, not a lot of people know how the IBIS and lens stability interact with sony. But basically if you use IBIS only, the sensor stabilization does all of the work. If you attach a stabilized lens, then the lens controls 2 parts - the “pitch” and the “yaw” and the IBIS does the rest. The IBIS plus OSS on Sony is only marginally better than IBIS alone. On cameras like Panasonic and Olympus, combining lens plus IBIS makes a big difference.

Enjoy that January Toronto air, man that's some cold stuff out there! Peace mi amigo.
Hi Mark, the video you took outside when filming yourself, was that just natural sunlight or did you use an ND filter, or special lights when filming yourself? It looked beautiful.
Hey Mark! Thanks for a great review! These slo-mo scenes at the beginning - how exactly did you film them? Since SONY ZV-E10 doesn’t have 4K60, I wonder how you were able to look it so smooth
If you’re talking about the image stability, the ZV-E10 has a built in gyroscopic data recorder (note, this doesn’t work with every lens but I believe any lens that electrically interfaces with the camera this applies to) that you can import into Sony’s program, Catalyst Resolve, which will automatically stabilize the video. He’s also using a gimbal

Is this lens good for night time photography? I love how stunning the street photography is and I know the lower aperture is great in those situations but does the lack of stabilisation in both the camera and lens affect the quality that badly? (I want to buy the ZV E-10 too)
the lens is amazing for nighttime photography- one of the best choices about there. that 1.4 is a very bright aperture so it’s great in lowlight, lack of stabilization is not an issue generally. you just make sure your shutter speed doesn’t go too low.
I've purchased the ZV E-10 and have one more question about this lens! Do you feel you are too far away from the subject and you have to get close to get a good image? Great video as always Mark. Quick question, did you have to use a converter ring to use the lens with the ZV-E10? Sigma's product page lists this lens as an AF mount and suggests the use of the MC-11 converter ring, is this true? Thx!
Either that’s a typo or you’re looking at the wrong section. this is an E-Mount lens - no adapter required.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis That's great to know. I might have been looked at an old product page. Thanks again.
wow this video is like a pro camera!!!
Best of luck Mark!
look at the Sony 35mm for aps-c for something in between the 30 and 56 from sigma
Does the lens mount easily ? Does adapter needed ?
Hello, sir. I don't have much of a budget. Should I buy the ZV-E10 with the kit lens and the Sony 50mm prime lens, or the ZV-E10 body with the Sigma 30mm? Does Catalyst Browse work with the Sigma lens?
What do you plan to shoot?
I am shocked to see your channel is not already 100K subs, but I know you will get there if you continue to produce such good content as you have already.
HaHa, always the entertainer my brother! Happy New Canadian New Year, well it's actually a new year in the states too, I don't get out much, kind of like you, I just talk to myself and people through a camera, because people are weird lol! Great video, the Gimbal shots look great, adding that sucker to my list along with this lens, for down the road. Gotta break in that SIgma 16MM 1.4 first, geeez that thing dwarfs my little ZVE-10 Dougie wanna be haha!
I saw on a different comment, you still think that lens can be used for film making with a Gimball or Catalyst Browse without having to upgrade to this 30MM lens yeah?
Enjoy that January Toronto air, man that's some cold stuff out there! Peace mi amigo.
oh for sure - out of the two, the 16mm is better for filmmaking in my opinion.
Hi Mark, the video you took outside when filming yourself, was that just natural sunlight or did you use an ND filter, or special lights when filming yourself? It looked beautiful.
I used an ant to get that low 1.4 aperture. it would have to be really shady out to not use and ND 👍
Better than kit lens for landscape?
Yes for sure. But usually people prefer wider for landscapes. Look at the Sigma 16mm 1.4
Man do you have any promo ocdes for these lenses ????
Wish I did - but they don't provide that.
nice!!! Hi from Belarus!
Hi from Canada!! 🇨🇦
sweet content! thanks for putting together. wish i could go take pics out here in Dallas at our "cool" and "eclectic" spots at 6am. unfortunately chances of getting robbed and/or murdered: pretty high!

Mark your videos are awesome.. With your advise i got the zv e10 with sigma 30mm 1.4 lens... Your autofocus looks awesome on your videos can you share the AF settings that you use
just keep it on wide with eye autofocus turned on
Thanks and i guess sensitivity and transition on low settings?
I usually have it up on fast. Low sensitivity won’t be able to follow you if you move around a lot - experiment - find out what works for you
Great help! I’m in Mississauga…. that sounds like an apology. Sigma 30mm 1.4 vs 16mm 1.4 - which is best for YT interview/head shot?
the 16 is best if you re sitting close to the camera (say 4 feet). If you're camera is 10 feet away or so 0 the 30 would be better
Mark im going to buy the zve-10, would this be a 50mm equivalent on apsc?
it is a 45mm equivalent in terms of full frame. multiply all the focal length on any emount lens by 1.5 times to get the “full frame equivalent”
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you mark, have a good day ahead.
Hey dude
I just wanted to know for videos shooting like reels and RUclips videos which one is better 1. Sony full frame any camera WITH KIT LENSE (30mm f4.5 or
2. Sony crop sensor with prime lense (sigma 30mm f 1.4) which one is gives us brighter quality??
Mark this was amazingly clear,i have to zv e 10 and the sigma 30mm,please can you tell me the settings you had for this video
I used HLG3 with the LeemingLUT. I did a video about it here ruclips.net/video/RVrEQPsFOpE/видео.html

Great vid as always. I got my ZV-E10 (called him 'bud') around black friday last year (2021) for £485 (refurbished from Sony with 2 year warranty price including £60 cash back from ebay) Keep an eye out for Sony deals! I also have Sigma 30mm F 1.4. I plan to use this combo to shoot live bands (covid allowing) thought I would try mounting camera on mono pod with fluid head (manfrotto) as compensate for stabalisation, also will try catalyst browse, see which method is best. (Mark tip: if you have to wear a chest rug at least centre it , looks less false) I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy new year and all the best
That’s my natural chest hair. grows out of a mole
sadge I found no deals this year.
Better than the famous 16mm for youtube streaming (twitch)? What do you think? Thanks
the 30 is too tight for streaming unless you plan to put your camera across the room
Thanks, I'll go then for the 16mm, any other recommendation for that purpose?
woof the color fringing on the telephone wires and tree branches is really something with this lens
I just bought the new sigma 18 - 50 f2.8. I believe you will love it. Please buy it and make a review

So, coming from the kit lens. This or one of the other two?
it depends what you shoot. what are you shooting? member - this one can’t zoom. one focal length
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I bought the camera for videos of myself playing guitar (the kit lens is more than enough for that), but I'm loving shooting street photography and portraits and mostly find myself middle and upwards on the zoom of the kit lens

Hey mark i cant decide if I should buy the sigma 56mm or the 30mm. To use it as a hybrid for professional portrait fotos and team fotos. Which lens would you choose for these tasks?
would really apreciate your opinion on this.
Thanks
the 56 is best for portraits. 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for the answer!
Any downside to using the lens hood all the time? It likely saved my heavy Sony RX10M3 when my wife dropped it and cracked the lens hood. Camera seemed fine though.
Nope - no downside at all except for size
Is this video is recorded with sony zv e10 sigma 30mm 1.4 camera lense ?
Yes. The whole thing
Do you need a mount to make the sigma fit the Sony
no - if you buy an Sony E-Mount version no adapter needed.
What system do ZV-E10 cameras use as opposed to APS-C that for instance Sony A6XXX use?
The same - they all take E-mount lenses
Hello Mr Bennett. I love your videos. I want to start a youtube channel and make videos indoors (mainly) talking infront of my camera. What lens would be the best for me between a. the kit lens, b. the 30mmF1.4 and c. the 16mmF1.4 ? I just ordered the sony ZV-E10. Thank you !

Hi Mark. Thank you for always giving so much helpful reviews and advice. But what would you recommend since I am battling between this lens Sigma 30mm f1.4 vs the PZ 10-20mm F4 G for vlogging and photography. Which one will you recommend? Thank you so much. ✨
Deformity the 10-20. The 30 is not wide enough to vlog
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisisthank you so much!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis you're the best man!
I've purchased the ZV E-10 and have one more question about this lens! Do you feel you are too far away from the subject and you have to get close to get a good image? Also, does this lens work more like a 50mm? I've heard from other sources it does and may I ask why is that? Thank you :)@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
