I mean. I’m in my 50s and grew up with Madonna. I always loved this song, but had absolutely no idea the bass line was as complicated as this. This is ridiculous, and Julia is one of the best bassists I’ve ever seen. Totally mind blowing.
The original bass line wasn't as complex, she kicked it up about five or six notches.
@@ChadwickTheChadnot even close she has put it on steroids she is a great bass player but sometimes to much is to much...Not much on her tone I'm a drummer bass player she is good...Hope she has a band the worst thing is to play to cds the timing is always there not like that live....When you get live your lost because the timing ..
@@WHISKEYROCKNROLLER???
@@WHISKEYROCKNROLLER what are you even on about 🤡
@@charlesbronson2926🎯👍🙄
Julia, just gotta say you're a seriously badass bass player, you inspired me to play bass! Just having such a badass female bass role model makes me wanna keep playing when progress feels slow ❤
same here! ❤
she is a role model for all of us, though. bassists that is.
don't want to trivialise ur experience - it would be a wonderful world if the choice of ur musical profession (bass no. 1) was more important than gender.
@@simonschmitz6719 amen.
@@simonschmitz6719 to be honest, in the last two years, I’ve seen more prodigiously talented women playing guitar and bass (and drums) than ever before.
These ladies ARE changing things. They want to do it, and they are fantastic.
Karen!.... female female female ffs! Lol
Thanks to Guy Pratt for originally playing these awesome bass lines and thank you for this great cover
She pimped them out way more than the original
@theshapeexists it's the best thing I've ever seen 😮
Well said.....nice cover and the Stingray sounds luuuurvly
During the Covid lockdowns Guy Pratt did "lockdown riffs" and confessed that he didn't exactly even remember the bass line he did 30+ years ago. It went pretty well though...
Too busy. The original is untouchable
THIS IS how it's played!!! Respect, girl!
2:46 and farther is literally one of the best bass moments in the history of pop music!
3:10 - Perfectly hitting that D note on the "home". Gives me chills!
That little piece at 1:54 is so beautiful, I keep rewinding and rewinding 🥲
Me too
I'm 48 and started learning playing bass a month ago. I just can't stop watching this over and over -- soooo well played, soooo inspiring!
Mani saw Leland Skylar commenting on one of her vids. She’s incredibly talented. Her versions wouldn’t pass the recording studios because they are so busy but god she’s talented. She’s got one of those freak factors with the fret board and impeccable timing
honoring the great Guy Pratt with the octaver! flawless cover 🦾
I've just finished his book 'Bass and Other Animals' It's very good.
@@AndyMac27 i gotta check that out
I was imagining Guys expression of excitement if he heard this 😄
Almost as if Pino Pallidino was transcribing Guy Pratt. Great performance all the way around.
@@wmhhealth2018yes, I’ll second that!
I knew this would amazing before I even listened. I wasn't disappointed.
Thank god for people like this that hear something unique from any song and put their own spin on it. This girl is one of my favorites.
Julia nails this beautiful Guy Pratt’s bass line and then some!!
Only human on the planet that can make me add a damn Madonna song to the rotation. As usual, she is achieving a sound no one else can. All alone on her own level.
Have you ever even listened to the original? It has some of the best bass instrumentals I've ever heard in a pop song. This cover is great but she does way too much. The bassist that recorded this played with Floyd and a ton of others
@@Terminxman yeah grew up hearing original and it’s still there whenever you want to hear it. Been there for 34 years. Also, if you want to hear Julia perfectly recording classics with very little deviation, she proved she’s the best there is at that back when she was a teenager.
You can certainly feel JPG did too much in the first 2 minutes, but name me anyone who could make the last 3 minutes sound that dope. Tens of thousands of people will hear this track for the first time because she’s remixing it. View this as a remix. She doesn’t post that often, and when she does, people want to hear her go ham on a track. Because she’s consistently elevated tracks, and doesn’t miss.
@@Terminxman You're correct and this other guy is high as a kite.
@@christopherh4653 yeah, she’s been publicly praised by Thundercat, Stuart Zender, RHCP, Leland Sklar and a bunch of well known artists she’s covered. But you’re entitled to your opinion. Music is a taste thing. We all have different preferences.
@@Cfb8402 She's an amazing bassist, that's why I follow her. This particular one is a miss though and my comment was directed at the absurdity of this comment, not the musician.
That custom fretless makes for some great slides and the sound makes this amazing for a Madonna song.
@@BuddhaofBlackpool The fret markings are painted on instead of the normally raised frets on the neck.
Whoa! I didn't even notice it was fretless haha, now I see that her fingering is on the fret markers. Sounds great
That was just something outstandingly in the pocket. I'm not worthy. Great playing, my hat's of to you.
The best !!!!
Good spotting.
The groove of this young woman is something else
The story Guy Pratt tells about this song is a gem. He was called in by Madonna to listen to the final mix and he couldn't really believe it was him so he asked Madonna, "Who did the bass?" She said, "You! Dummy!"
Any day that Julia uploads a bass cover video, it's a great day.
Your intonation on the fretless sounds fantastic, really good cover
🎯
Jesus Christ! That was the most amazing thing i have ever seen. I have no words... God bless the internet for bringing this to my attention.
Breath-taking, foot-stomping, finger-tapping perfection --- what a fine, disciplined talent,
I'm always so impressed how your playing can be so intricate but so tasteful, a rare thing!
I grew up in the 80s. Don't ever think I ever imagined the bass on Madonna's song like this!
Agreed! Julia perfected a Madonna song! Too bad she wasn't born yet when this song was recorded.
🎯👍
Every time this song comes on my Spotify I go back to your cover because after hearing it the original is just missing something. Wonderful ❤
🎯👍
Every instrument has so called sound envelope that is composed with four phases: attack, decay, sustain, release - ADSR in short. What You're missing is A-D phase that in original
is relatively long and passes immediately to sustain phase. Here You have strong A-D phase because Julia has exceptional finger speed leading to very dynamic start of each note.
I never thought that the bass line was actually intricate! Well played!!
This shit is lit!!!!!! Damn girl. That's talent just there! Thank you for sharing it with us. We are blessed to have you in the music sphere. Peace
I love that buzzy sound, so funky. Great job on a classic, Julia!
Of all song's bass covers this sound is the most "original-like".
Envelope filter !
Never thought a madonna bass cover would move me to tears 🤣🥲
🎯👍
Rhythm is flowing through your entire body! Great musicianship with perfect improvisations. Julia, you are a very talented young lady!
The way you make already awesome songs even more awesome it's insane
there is not a single song you couldn't improve with your bass covers! this is awesome!
DAYUM JULIA. Surprised your bass didn't catch fire! So good.
This is ridiculous... you are awesome... jaw dropping... I can't find my words. Like A Prayer is one of my all time favorite songs and you nail it young Lady and with lots of panache... Thank you so much, you give that song something new. Cheers from Switzerland.
Normally I can't stand Madona, but I cranked this and grooved out! Your covers blow the originals away every single time!
What the what!!! I grew up with Madonna so I just went back to my high school days except now I think I'm super cool wearing my Converse with a hanky tied around my right ankle and not what I really was, a weirdo band kid. You are the shit!
MAKING WAVES IN THE BASS COMMUNITY ! Keep going Julia ! You’re career is written in stone ! Thank you for your wonderful and inspiring videos !
Absolutely fantastic cover Julia!!
You are my bass teacher and you don’t even know it ! I’ve been working on your version of About Damn Time for weeks now, and I’m going to start on this one today. If someone asks me who my bass influences are, I can truly say JuliaPlaysGroove !
No words to describe the awesomeness of this cover!! You have an amazing gift and talent!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thanks for sharing it with us!
Just as before, soft start, anticipation builds, wait for it.... Julia drops into the song like a wrecking Ball!!! Always a pleasure to watch you do what you do best!! Kudos! ❤️👍💪
Wow !! your part has sublimated this song. you gave it a crazy intensity. Bravo!! good job 🙌
@2:10 The first 2 minutes of this song are like doing scales for her. 😂 But then, by the time the choir comes in, she’s got her upper lip and nose scrunched, that left leg tappin’ and she hammers the shit out of the rest of that song. 😂 Love this cover. 👏🏻Thanks for the serotonin uptick as usual Julia!
That is so gloriously funky. And such chops! I have watched/listened several times, and I get tingles every time.
Wow! Next level playing on this interpretation! Killer, Julia!
I literally squealed when I saw you were doing a cover of this song. My favorite Madonna track covered by my favorite bass player
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 this might be one of my favorite bass parts I’ve ever heard in a song 😮
That was absolutely fantastic! You demonstrate that you are very musically aware and you make that bass line unique and addictive to listen to 👍👍👍
That was SO, SO incredible! Thank you for sharing your gifts!!
Absolutely blown away by your playing....total respect.
You are effin’ awesome! I love the fretless sound so much🤩!
Julia you hit it right out of the park.....absolute stellar bass musicianship, so amazed by your skills. Keep 'em coming girl, u got this!
Love the contrasting tones from the effects pedals. Really well chosen sounds.
Now the Prince vibes are even more evident! Thank you!
This is insane!! Amazing tab Julia! It's unique!! Regards from your argentinian fan 💚🇦🇷
I am very impressed by your playing ! Keep on rocking ! 😍✌️😎
One of my all-time favorite songs and bass lines (and an underrated one too) - love this cover! ❤
I've always found the bass lines towards the end of the song amazing. Thank you for this video.
One of my favorite songs, sounds absolutely beautiful on that fretless
Ansiosa para o próximo vídeo! Você arrasa garota! Sou sua fã! Parabéns pelo talento!!
Love you own approach on this tune and excellent choice synth bass sound. Amazing as always..Keep on rocking!!🔥🔥🔥👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼❤
This cover is 🔥! So good to see when a musician is enjoying themselves as they play! Such an enjoyable listen! Awesome!
Epic bass line. So excited you made a cover. You're the best
Remarkable! I have always loved this song, but you make it funkier.
Oh man, I've been watching your videos for at least 7 years...and it's so cool how you always keep it fresh and fun. Always makes me happy to see you've uploaded something. Keep killing it, Julia!
This interpretation blew me out of the water! You’re a super talent.
Very well played. That jam at the end was absolutely stellar!!!
Every time I am blown away by your playing, Julia, but this time it is just out of this world! The tonality, the tone, the expression, the creativity, the freedom, just WOW
Man... I can't love your playing anymore than I already do. Wonderful. Love your chops!
WOW! Guy Pratt must see this! What a incredible bass line! 👏🏼👏🏼
This performance was several times mentioned in official channel of Guy Pratt. He made no comments but I think it's near to impossible he did not see that.
Amazing as always with creative new sounds. I like the part from 2:48 the most, it reminds me of Tony Levin, but with your own fresh approach. Keep on grooving! ❤ 💥💯
This might be my favorite yet! I’ve watched it 10 times already. Great job Julia ❤ Thanks for being an inspiration
This is absolutely crazy - timing, pitch, everything - thanks so much!!!
This is such a nuanced bassline. And you've added yet so much to it. Amazing skills and musicality. :-)
PLAY DAMNIT! 💪🏾
I've watched about 7 guys attempt this tune on bass. Your cover was BEST by far. Your chops, ad libs, taste, & feel kicks them all in their asses. Damn good job 👌🏾
Hi Julia, this really is insane ! Thanks very much for this incredible performance ! GO ON !!!
That is just fabulous -- thank you Julia!
Your tone and technique is awesome. You're an absolutely brilliant bassist, keep it up 🙏❤
Your playing on this gave me goosebumps. So good
Julia, you are out of this world. All the best from Istanbul, Turkey. Keep in mind that you are being listened from this part of the world!!
Julia, your playthrough is outstanding! Amazing left and right hand work and a masterful demonstration of controlling tone with your fingers. A perfect 10/10, I am blown away. You definitely earned my sub.
Thank you for giving me a new appreciation for this Madonna classic.
You make me listen to genres that I don't normally listen to with your bass playing!❤
OH MY GOD best cover of this I've seen!! Did this song for my GCSE/NAT5 bass exam this year and it was so fun😭😭 I love how you feel the song with your whole body, which is the only way to listen to this song honestly. The 7' version of this slaps too
Absolutely incredible ! Perfection! thank you for your energy and your groove ❤❤❤
I love how your vids always make me appreciate yet another great bass line. Fantastic playing as ever
😮 🍿 👏🏽 oh my god! That’s the best bass ever 🤯🤗
Guys Pratt’s work on this song is amazing… that breakdown! Kudos to Madonna for letting him riff like that.
Brilliant, spectacular, and a joy to hear every note.
Nice and funky! I found this channel about two years ago and I love the confidence of this young lady! Her talent just keeps getting better!
Amazing playing, as always.👏👍
Stankface all over the place on this one, so funky, great cover!
You are SO funky, I love it! Thank you for putting your music out there for us to enjoy.
That was fun to listen along with, thanks always for sharing to the internets! Good vibes!
What you do with that bass is amazing.
❤️
You're so amazing!! Guitar is my 1st instrument, I play bass only because I have no bass player in my studio. My technique is crap, but when I hear you play, you really inspire me to dive deep into the bass.
i really like this track from Madonna when i was young, and you really catch the way to make it even more epic and funky
keep the world more groovier Julia and thanks for the music
I love how you play AND live the music !!
It's so good to listen to your phrasing and ideas, very inspiring and motivating !
I kinda left my basses alone and watching your video makes me think how good it is to play bass.
Thank you so much for your great vibes and keep up the good work, you definitely are on the right path to be an amazing musician. 🙏
Really great! What an attack! Thanks for sharing, hello from France 🇫🇷
Loved it!! Did not see the song going in that direction but you killed it!
How can something so funky and upbeat bring me to tears? This is fucking awesome. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite musicians.
Wow, this groove brought tears of joy into my eyes. Incredible, bravo !!!
This song used to have pretty heavy rotation on mtv (for those old enough to remember)😂, Fantastico bass👍👍👍
Wasn't the video banned at first? (or they threatened to ban it? don't remember)
