Please just make her the next Carol Kaye and have her be the studio bassist in every session everywhere. There's not a cover I have heard that she doesn't make instantly better.
I say she "ruins" songs. Once you hear Julia's version you can't ever enjoy the original in quite the same way! More Julia; fewer boring bass parts. ;)
It's indeed a seriously complex bassline. And Julia surely did it justice. She's not intimidated by basslines of this caliber at all. She handles Larry Graham's "Hair" with equal finesse. (It's listed on her RUclips channel.)
I´m 52 now and I´ve tears in my eyes because it´s so good to see young talented people who love and feel the music like we did (and still do). FUNK & SOUL forever 🤩

Couldn't get the audio to work on my phone so I watched you play in silence. Made me smile to watch you feel the groove. I'll listen when I get to my computer.
You are by far my favorite bassist on RUclips. Wow! Your touch, your tone, your execution, your timing, are all perfect. Somehow you manage to make the bass the most melodic and interesting part of every arrangement you write. Any tips on how you managed to get so good at the instrument. Us normies want to learn your ways 😅 Anyway, thank you for posting again. Hope your life is rocking. Cheers and aloha!
I've been playing bass for 42 years learning from JJBurnel, Flea and Tim Commerford. Now I'm learning from you. I'm smiling and if they see this, I'm sure they're smiling too. Keep doing this and I hope rich rewards will follow.
JJBurnel aficionado her too. Saw in live somewhere in the 80s. How about a Whiskey? Or maybe a peache for dessert? (as for the others, I am more from the Marvin Gaye / Jamerson / Soul fhnk school.)
OUTSTANDING cover of the immortal 1984 Jocelyn Brown classic I danced at the disco in my twenties...the groove and punch you deliver with those bass parts is a clear demonstration of the saying "the sound lies in the hands". You have my never ending admiration.
She's sooo good that she makes you like songs you didn't even know you liked!!! It's crazy how I can hear a song countless times and never really hear it until JULIA puts her spin on it.
She sure has enought talent to be a session player. Just remember that a session player has to be able to sight read and learn parts instantly. They also have to improvise at the drop of a hat.
Now THAT'S how you're supposed to play this song! Her groove was spot on! Nailed it!!! I've been playing bass since the 70s and I know a great funky bass player when I see/hear one. I especially loved her body language and facial expressions. So confident!
I love the way you making your videos. No effects, just a simple bass plug in a computer et voilàà. You and your talent, you really need nothing else to be a pro class musicien
Unbelievably smooth slap bass. Learning this song atm and was just watching her right hand for the whole video. The transitions from fingerstyle to slap was effortless and all the extra fills just thrown in were Unbelievable. Great cover!
Gotta give credit to this girl,,, Everything she does,,,she's just on point! Excellent song selection as well can't wait to see her on the big stage with her own band one day soon! Keep that groove going! The world needs more people like her,,,, thank you for keeping the music alive🙌🏻
What's so crazy is every song she has covered that I was familiar with, Never too much, Forget me nots and now this, I have come away liking the song more than when I first heard it. I am now a subscriber just so I can see what she does next. Well done, Julia, well done!
Nooooooooooo...not Somebody else's Guy. Noooooooo. Not only i got the 6-minute version on vinyl, but this is one of my favorite records coming up as a kid. Little mama, Major salute. I hope Jocelyn Brown likes this video. Also, since you did this cover, look up Jean Burton-Bad Habit. Same kind of vibe, but funky at the same time.
The SPEEEED with which I opened this video as soon as I saw the title! I had to link to my speaker so I could hear every last bit of it! Amazing, simply amazing.
Wait for it... And there it is , crescendo Bam! Always a pleasure to watch you ply your craft and enjoy your musicality. Kudos! Job well done. The hair on my arm stood up as you played the intro' ❤️❤️🙏👍
That's the real funky shit! Amazing! I was 15 as I bought me the vinyl maxi single of this song. What a great time and how great to see you young lady point out this addictive bassline.
I absolutely LOVE your skills! I can't think of enough words to describe how much your playing moves me! In musician's terms: Always "tight and in the pocket!" I'm a DJ/Producer that has always wanted to learn how to play bass! I guess at age 55, it's never too late to start, but your video is motivational & inspirational! Great Work!
Uuuuhhhhh what a amazing playstuff! ✌️👍👍👍👍 You make me dance right away and you are making the track of Jocelyn more beautiful than original! Thanks for the tune 🎶 you're majesty of bass! ❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🙋🏼♂️
i just started playing bass a couple months ago. it feels so unattainable right now, but i so aspire to be able to play like you. thank you for sharing yourself with the world!!
My bass has been propped up against the wall for months as the enthusiasm to play isn't as strong as it used to be. Watching the sheer joy on Julia's face as she glides through these covers is inspiring. 👍
Watching this video gave me a better appreciation of the original bass performance. Julia’s version is enjoyable as always and sounds beautifully clean, but back in the day those licks must have been scary.
Awesome. You know, one of the great things about your music, is the fact that at your young age and my older age means that I should be able to continue watching you grow as an artist until I die ! 👍
wow!!!!! never expected this one played by you Julia!! This is one of my favourite songs from when iwas young, brings so many memories!!! I am sure you will make it justice as always (haven´t even started the video yet), here we go!!
Yeah if we're talking what affects sound of electric bass/guitar the most, it's like amp+effects -> pickups -> strings/scale length (guitar maybe has less of a "thing" with roundwound vs flat but certainly still string _thickness_ and such)
The wealth of her groove is endless. Another demonstration of the power of the bass in a real artist's hands.
Reminds me of London clubs in the 80s. Fantastic job. Funky and sassy!
Ok Julia... I was around when this jam originally dropped. You weren't born yet. You found this song and then elevated it. Thank you. There is hope...

Jaw dropped at least 3 times. Brilliant Julia! 🤩

Julia does it again....Play that bass girl...Jocelyn is diggin this for sure.. This was a club and radio fav from the 80's....RIP Jocelyn Brown
I don’t think Jocelyn has passed away and is still very much with us
RIP when? She's still alive AFAIK?
Jocelyn Brown is still alive.
What I love about her is she not just playing it, she's enjoying it just like we did back in the day. You go girl!
How is she not a known session player? Her playing is so tight.
Not that easy to break into the session business, my friend. They are all incredible players. She will get there; she has time.
She lives in Poland, not exactly a commercial music mecha. If she moved to the US I can see her getting work pretty damn quick.
And she's in music school.
At this point in her life she is a known RUclips player. Rome wasnt build in a day.
She sure has enought talent to be a session player. Just remember that a session player has to be able to sight read and learn parts instantly. They also have to improvise at the drop of a hat.

I love when she does these old funk soul songs. Personally I think this girl will smoke any bass player out now.
