Electrolysis works a 100%. The reason why the same area requires several treatments is that each hair has its own growth cycle. If the technician removes the hair in the anagen phase (active growth) then the hair is gone forever. Not sure what the outcome is if the hair is removed at the catagen phase (transitioning phase) but if the hair is removed at the telogen phase (resting phase) then it's the same as tweezing so you'll have to come back. There are ways to identify the phases, look at the bulb/root of the removed hair. Also, once the hair is "zapped" it should easily slide out of your skin. If it resists the pull then the technician needs to reapply the heat otherwise it's the same as tweezing. A good technician will know everything I just wrote but make sure to do your own research and speak for yourself if you feel like something is off. It's a lot of money, get the service you're paying for!

I’ve been going to electrolysis for over 10 years. It’s a veryyyyy lengthy process, but so worth it. Hair growth changes with stress, weight, etc. For now, I only go about three times a year versus going once a week when I first started. I do have pcos and had embarrassing chin hairs from the start of my teenage years. If anyone is considering and can afford it I’d say go for it. It’s worth the confidence booster ❤️

You probably have a pituitary/adrenal tumor if it's that much. PCOS is the catch-all misdiagnosis they still saddle people with. You need competent hormone testing and assessment and that's DIFFICULT to find outside LA.

I am sorry but please look further into this as it may be the electrologist you are going to. Electrolysis should only take a year as quoted by the number one electrologist in ATL. If you feel the “pluck” after the machine zaps you from the tweezer your treatment is being done incorrectly

I just started about a month ago and my electrolycist explains the process and why it takes a while (hair growth cycle). She goes back over the area that she did previously to get the hairs that have grown in since the previous treatment. So far I’m happy with the results.

@@jasminmonteiro9786 she suggested once a week so we could see the growth cycle. I’m going about every 10 or so days now. Went two days ago for the first time in about 5 weeks due to both of us being gone for Thanksgiving and other things. We’ve discovered that my gray hairs seem to have a different growth cycle!

Not comparing the same thing. Comparing body laser to face electrolysis when the hair growth cycles are completely different. It’s why you can grow a beard or head hair that extremely long.

I've been getting electrolysis done for a little less than a year for my upper lip. I hated the light shadow I would get whenever the hair would grow back! It's been working really well for me! I had a lot of upper lip hair (not super dark thankfully) but it was something that would always bother me. It is super painful, definitely when the electrologist removes the hair in the middle close to my lip! Depending on the amount of hair you have, it's a tedious process. I go for a 15 min session every 2 weeks. I did miss a few sessions in between, so I feel like if I didn't miss those.. I would've been close too, if not, done with treatment.
My mom had SUPER dark hair on her chin, and some on her upper lip. I believe she also went for a year, and now, she goes back maybe once or twice a year when a dark hair grows.
After each session- ICE THE AREA! Bring an icepack with you, unless the facility provides some ice. It will help with the pain and the redness/swelling! I usually pop 2 ibuprofens an hour or 2 before my session and it helps! It is painful, but worth it! You won't have to pay for waxing/threading! In between, if you have to, SHAVE the hair... do not pluck/thread/wax it!
Price: The place I go to is pretty expensive now. It used to be around $35/15 min a few years ago (my mom used to go), now it is $50/15 min. But I trust my electrologist, I don't think I would feel comfortable going to anyone else at this point.
It is a long and painful process, but the results are definitely worth it!

It takes a long time but it works. Tooke me a year and a half of going biweekly but it was worth it. There were times when I thought I was done and then some hairs popped up. Just stick with it if you can.

Some hairs came back very fine. I really only see them when I am looking in a magnified makeup mirror. I'm in the process of getting those treated now. Just keep going. @@sinbycosi2813 yes ofc the most important is to not tweeze it nor wax it between sessions, you can trim it with scissors. Look for a good electrologist because it's so important too some of them just pluck hair, going once a month is the recommended because you need to give time to skin to heal having a session once every two weeks is more for aesthetic for ppl who can't stand hair on their face more than that.
