The Pontiff who did whatever it takes to stop the linking of the fire.

When you think about it pontiff sulyvan was the closest thing we got to a genuine evil villain in dark souls
He was supposed to be the end boss but from change it to soul of cinder
He was just a random guy in a random room on a random journey to touch a random sword in some ashes.
Idk Seathe and Smough were pretty Evil. not to mention Mohg but he’s not a dark souls boss.

@@susk5090 in my opinion, sulyvahn is way harder than dancer. on my first playthrough i killed her 2nd try. sulyvahn took me around 1 hour

Truly a perfect boss, so much more enjoyable without a shield

when i see his door i only think "you die now, Aldrich!"
but when i see Sulyvahn i think "wait, what? who the fuck is this guy"
after this, Sulyvahn became the my biggest enemy in all game

I think Sulyvahn might be upset by losing but at the same time very aware of that conclusion. He has waited for so long to destroy the Gwyndolin's system of kindling and one of the remains of that system was the reason of his fall, but he knew very well how older and complex that system is.
I like to think his last thought was:
"just one of thoses toys of that serpent of the moon... Defeat me? Well, I think I'm not surprised"
I had the exact same reaction. Knowing i was told by the female knight that aldrich is in irythyl
I remember being stuck on this boss for days. Shit was tough
its a shame the pontiff/Aldrich werent used more extensively. from what i can see, everyone was most hyped from the abyss watchers/yhrom and followed up by the princes but ive found (only recently got into das) is that the pontiff/Aldrich are by far the most intriguing characters. the pontiff is the reason for aldrich becoming a lord of cinder to begin with, by extension the corruption of the deep, and the fall of the gods. they were the heads of a well-structured and coherent faction that just made an absolute mess out of the already clustered situation. the obvious backstabbing between the two could have led to prolonged storylines as well.
i believe cathedral/irithyll/anor londo should have been extended, pushed back a little, and explored a bit more. (maybe even a way to save gwyndolin) i found these places to be far more impactful that the profaned capital. yhrom just felt like budget cuts and a complete letdown.
Most underrated FromSoft boss imo
I'd say fairly rated since this boss is pretty well known for being really though on the first playthrough
