Just finished the game for the first time today, sat there throughout the whole epilogue thinking about how depressing the world of dark souls is. Wondering if perhaps the suffering will end and the cycle will stop after fire fades. I can't believe how much i've been missing for all these years. What a wonderfully crafted masterpiece
2022: Heard the game was hard, bought it for a fun little challenge. 2024: I have played every souls game multiple times and I cry whenever I hear this.

This song is so sad. I feel like it perfectly captures the feeling of fighting a never ending battle and knowing you will still lose, knowing that there's no hope because your battle is a lost cause, but you keep fighting anyway. This is the only song from the DS trilogy that makes me cry, and i can't help but do it everytime i hear it. Such a beautiful song, yet so sad.
I'd argue it's more of a bittersweet song for a hard-fought victory over the age of fire, a lullaby of sorts. Not only for the first flame, but for dark souls in its entirety. All the battles fought, all the friends made, all the lands traveled. It's all completed and Lordran, for the time being, has no more stories to tell. But with the age of dark ending, there's hope in what comes ahead, both ingame and in real life, as sad as it is to say goodbye, it's good to always persevere with your head held high, and to always let the flames guide thee.
i tried dark souls 3 back in 2017, got pretty stuck and frustrated. So i quit the game around the dancer boss fight. I can happily say after 7 years i came back to this game, started a fresh save and finally beat my first play through just moments ago. The end credit music is glorious. Im glad I came back
I have this headcanon that the bell you hear ringing at parts of the soundtrack is the bell above Firelink Shrine desperately ringing for more ash to link the first flame, but it's all in vain as the Ashen One is the last to link the flame as the fire dies out either when consuming the player or just after the player is consumed
tbh i cried when this theme starts playing after finishing the game! DS3 will be my most favorite game of all time i played other souls games yep nothing beats ds3
Ik it is so fucking good. I got into the series with this game and the feeling of rest and comfort the epilogue gives is one of the things that made me get obsessed with the game and learning about the whole trilogy
I started crying on the final boss second phase even tho it was my first souls, I knew that motive from ds1. It did a perfect sync, ending of phase one music right into phase 2. I will always treasure that moment and this game
This could go with a funeral, a wedding or making waffles. But I would unironically love to listen to this as the last thing I hear. The beauty of the song paired with the memories from one of my favorite games of all time, my first soulslike; and the feelings of accomplishment and relaxation after reaching the end of a long and challenging journey, it truly is something special

Age of Dark is the age of men, and the name doesn't necessarily mean its an existence devoid of light as the dark soul is capable of producing flame. The Age of Dark is an age without gods, where humans can live freely without the undead curse, live and die like all humans deserve to, not be forced to "live" thousands of years as mindless hollows. Also the abyss exists only because the Age of Fire has been prolonged unnaturally for so long, making it out of control.

Is it better to be endlessly tormented?(fight bosses/npcs/spirits) Or to be alone in darkness, no light, no flames for guidance? Way I see it, this game emphasizes that no matter light or dark, alone or in company. We are all suffering and fighting blindly against forces we cannot control.

Finally beat DS3 recently. This game is truly beautiful. I cannot think of a better way to finish the trilogy. Came back to add: Man, the way this music hits at 3:14...It truly is something special. It even feels really emotional to a grown man like me. Easily one of the best pieces of credits music I have heard in a game in a very long time.

Hearing this after the epilogue song from Demons souls it sounds so recognizable and truly felt like Dark Souls 3 was the end of an era. The soulsborne games finished with Dark Souls 3 and I will stand by that. I love Sekiro and Elden Ring even more so than the previous fromsoft installments, but they'll never have that mystical and amazing era that Demons Souls, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls gave us.
I finally got into the Dark Souls series after some videos about its lore caught my interest, and I believed it would be a nice break from Bloodborne and Elden Ring. So I went in mostly blind for Dark Souls III, and I must say: as a writer, I was completely taken away with the writing in this game, the gameplay was incredibly fun, much of the bosses will remain amongst my top 10 of all time, and the music especially: absolutely breathtaking. Beaten the game today, needless to say: it felt like a wonderful journey, on which I never felt such emotions ever since playing Bloodborne. Amazing game.

Just did the platinum after 4 years. I remember what i went through all the players that helped me sometimes friends, the farming, the pain struggling for some boss fights. Now my ashen one can rest in peace knowing that the deed as been done my soul is free. Thanks you dark souls.

The last thing I heard before this ost was a grandma telling me "Nameless accursed undead, unfit even to be cinder. And so it is that ash seeketh embers". All I did was press R1 by mistake 😭😭😭
In contrast, this game made me feel sad, not depressed just pure sadness due to the sad fate of most NPC characters we meet along the way, sadness due to how almost hopeless and pointless the world and story of Dark Souls is (pointless but not in a negative criticism of the whole series). Suffering and pain actually give someone purpose in life yet also makes them feel hopeless and want to go hollow, it is like a double-edged sword.

THIS is Yuka Kitamura's Magnum Opus. (and the alternate version that I believe is better made than this.) "Epilogue" is the final swansong of the Dark Souls world. The lullaby to sing a dying world to rest. A final farewell. A reflection of all that happened during the Age of Fire and its unnaturally extended lifespan. Every God and Dragon ever celebrated and felled. Everyone who ever linked the fire and what their Age of Fire brought, however insignificant. And most of all, this song dwells on what will come next for the world depending on what your Unkindled Ash chooses. Will the Age of Fire, the age that allows the gods to prosper and the humans to suffer and hollow out, continue? Or will the Age of Dark be allowed to come into being, bringing humans into their rightful place as the next beings in power, and allowing for the renewal of the universe by ridding itself of the stagnation that the unnaturally extended Age of Fire cursed it with? Yuka Kitamura is one of the most talented musical artists ever. I think that her abilities trancend game music, and she deserves so much more recognition than she gets. She could EASILY rock the academy if she ever ventured into film composition.
@@Graddg Yeah i don't think it's on yt unfortunately. it IS on spotify though. it's subtly different, but you can definitely hear it. the instrumentation and arrangements are different. the one on spotify is the one that actually plays at the end of the game. i personally prefer that one to this one.
Yee when I told people that I liked DS3 more than Bloodborne, them Bloodborne fan bois got mad. This game still remains as my favorite from fromsoft despite elden ring being my first souls like I beat from the company, mind you I still have this opinion even after beating shadow of the erdtree over this past summer
While I think the alternate version that came along with the DLC of The Ringed City is so much better, this one is like a homage to the OST of the first 2 games and Demon's Souls, made by Motoi Sakuraba. It emphasize more on the song itself, while the alternate does it with the instrumentation. Anyways, Yuka Kitamura did an amazing OST for DS3.
I beat dark souls 3 just few days ago I was feeling thriumpant after i had defeated gael in only few attempts Safe to say he was one of the best fights i had in any fromsoft game Sister friede made me lose my mind Demon prince felt fun to fight with lapp and gael Midir made me mad so much Twin princes was really fun even tho i only even them in just 2 attempts But gael was just every frame of a painting (get it) indeed Just amazing Kudos to miyazaki
I just had the same realization, and I'm surprised not more people seem to talk about that. Love that kind of stuff, and I have no idea how I haven't picked up on it earlier.
Elden Ring's story and overall feeling is that of a larger than life epic, an over-the-top battle of demigods and empowering deities come to light. And for that, it does wonderfully. However.. the much fainter somber melancholy of the Souls games will _always_ win my heart over. There's something so powerful despite it's lack of overt storytelling. You simply feel the lost grace of Lordran, the abandonment of Majula, the desolation of Lothric.
Idk if anyone said this before but *... and only dark will remain* Well the trilogy is over and yea, only dark remains, US, the players, humanity, the bearers of the Dark Soul❤ F me i love this series.

Best ending
This game killed my depression, so ironic.
In contrast, this game made me feel sad, not depressed just pure sadness due to the sad fate of most NPC characters we meet along the way, sadness due to how almost hopeless and pointless the world and story of Dark Souls is (pointless but not in a negative criticism of the whole series). Suffering and pain actually give someone purpose in life yet also makes them feel hopeless and want to go hollow, it is like a double-edged sword.

I prefer DS1’s level design but DS3 overall is a much better game imo and the polished nature of its areas makes up for the lack of interconnectivity.
it legit is, people say that ds1 is better cuz of nostalgia and it being og, ive played plus platinumed all 3 and can still say that Ds3 is better, its the perfect end of a masterpiece of a series

Every God and Dragon ever celebrated and felled. Everyone who ever linked the fire and what their Age of Fire brought, however insignificant.
And most of all, this song dwells on what will come next for the world depending on what your Unkindled Ash chooses.
Will the Age of Fire, the age that allows the gods to prosper and the humans to suffer and hollow out, continue?
Or will the Age of Dark be allowed to come into being, bringing humans into their rightful place as the next beings in power, and allowing for the renewal of the universe by ridding itself of the stagnation that the unnaturally extended Age of Fire cursed it with?
Yuka Kitamura is one of the most talented musical artists ever. I think that her abilities trancend game music, and she deserves so much more recognition than she gets. She could EASILY rock the academy if she ever ventured into film composition.

@@Graddg Yeah i don't think it's on yt unfortunately. it IS on spotify though. it's subtly different, but you can definitely hear it. the instrumentation and arrangements are different. the one on spotify is the one that actually plays at the end of the game. i personally prefer that one to this one.

Yee when I told people that I liked DS3 more than Bloodborne, them Bloodborne fan bois got mad. This game still remains as my favorite from fromsoft despite elden ring being my first souls like I beat from the company, mind you I still have this opinion even after beating shadow of the erdtree over this past summer

While I think the alternate version that came along with the DLC of The Ringed City is so much better, this one is like a homage to the OST of the first 2 games and Demon's Souls, made by Motoi Sakuraba.
It emphasize more on the song itself, while the alternate does it with the instrumentation.
Anyways, Yuka Kitamura did an amazing OST for DS3.
I beat dark souls 3 just few days ago
I was feeling thriumpant after i had defeated gael in only few attempts
Safe to say he was one of the best fights i had in any fromsoft game
Sister friede made me lose my mind
Demon prince felt fun to fight with lapp and gael
Midir made me mad so much
Twin princes was really fun even tho i only even them in just 2 attempts
But gael was just every frame of a painting (get it) indeed

Elden Ring's story and overall feeling is that of a larger than life epic, an over-the-top battle of demigods and empowering deities come to light. And for that, it does wonderfully.
However.. the much fainter somber melancholy of the Souls games will _always_ win my heart over. There's something so powerful despite it's lack of overt storytelling. You simply feel the lost grace of Lordran, the abandonment of Majula, the desolation of Lothric.
Darksouls more focused on humanly connections and feelings while while eldenring can be mythological story of gods
