Fromsofts music design to me has always been perfect. The amount of emotion that is portrayed here is amazing. This is the perfect sum of the long journey that has been the dark souls series.
As one who has lost his soul mate’s heart to Alzheimer’s ( but physically still present) this melancholy experience of late night escapism is the perfect match in our imperfect world…..congratulations on a great compilation- hopper from Louisiana

Still others, driven by desire or ambition, turned their backs on their solemn duty, save for the smallest of them, and became lords of nothing. Among ash, one man, no more than a slave, found something to believe in, and gave first his sanity and then his life to overcome the end of the world and helped to create a new, cold, and gentle place. Perhaps it has already become a goodly home. These are the roots of our world! Knowing this, do you still, desire peace?
This is my second favorite track from DS3 next to Soul of Cinder, and this rendition just makes it even better. Thank you so much. It truly hits in a different way (the original is still great of course)
Those two tracks taken together in context are the most soul-crushing and beautiful emotional gut punch I’ve ever received from any form of media. Especially if you get the fire fading ending, which is my personal canon ending of the series
After finally finishing NG+3 by ripping the flame from the flame keeper, and only *after* giving the painter Gael’s Dark Soul blood-this song hit me way differently at (0:42)&(3:24)🤯 My 1st play through I relinked the flame, and 2nd as NG+1 same. Then 3rd as NG+2 I finally put it out for what I imagined was for good until the Fire Keeper told me otherwise. So for my 4th NG+3 I ripped it from the flame keeper after giving the painter the blood so everyone has a choice. Either my eclipsed world of the flame forever fading in darkness, or the newly painted world with the dark soul blood where they can finally find gentle peace in life *without decay* . When this song played the final time I came to a different storied conclusion. There is no saving the flame by relinking it forever without it fading completely eventually. Also, there is no putting out the flame forever for it came to be conceived even in a world of complete darkness in the first place, so it will eventually find its light flickering in the dark again one day…even should you actually manage to snuff it all out. All you can do is use your power to one day, ‘make the world a better place’ as your only reason to exist (Slave Knight Gael), and/or cherish what comforts you before everything eventually fades in the endless struggle of light flickering in the darkness, (those who escape into the perfectly painted world together).
Ah.. We have made it. We achieved our goal, to stand before the flame and link the fire once again. But this time it's different, why it feels like it's the end? Maybe it is. So that is our curse.
