Unlike the other boss themes, this one doesn't get more desperate in second phase. It actually gets more heroic, because that's what you're doing. The people may not realize it, but you're saving Irithyll by slaying this tyrant. This music really reflects that.
Dude this OST hits hard AF. I remember playing The Convergence and when phase 2 began, he was doing all these combos, feints, flips, teleports, explosions, etc. while the DS3 menu OST was playing. I definitely wish it was played for a boss fight similar to how Radagon's OST was basically the Elden Ring menu OST.
crazy enough this theme was ment to be pontiffs from the get-go. He was intended to be the big bad and was the final boss. But they made it the soul of cinder.
@@josharuni547i believe he was supposed to be named "Old king of the Eclipse",but for reasons i don't know,the story for DS3 was rewritten from scratch,which is why they made those weird stuff about worlds fusing together and why everything is so confusing

@@angeltzepesh1 The fact that Elden Ring's Radagon fight uses the main theme of the game suggests that they wanted to do this for Dark Souls 3 originally, but couldn't. So his theme and the main theme were probably the same on purpose.
I've literally only just realised after seeing it's use in this mod it's obvious that "Old King Of The Eclipse" was originally meant for Sulyvahn phase one, and that the more bombastic Main Menu theme would have been phase two.

Safe to say, when I completed ds3, I played through elden ring, then restarted my ds3 journey from the start only to kill him on the first try. I miss being shit, but I'm also glad I get to experience some of the bosses without needing summons

But what most don't know is that Pontiff was actually gonna be the final boss of Dark Souls 3 originally which was changed during development. So yea it kinda makes sence that he would get this theme!

@@Nobody32990 HELLLLLL no he was not lacking. Tf were you smoking playing the game? The biggest moveset in the entire series, the best ost in the game, and a fantastic arena and lore. Sure sully is fantastic, but so is cinder. probably the best conceptual boss fromsoft has ever made

Old King Of The Eclipse is such an incredible song and it's a real shame that it doesn't exist in the main game
