Welcome back everyone! I'm so excited to get started on the 2022 summer exploring season! Thanks to you and your financial support this summer you'll experience something BRAND NEW! Now that the channel has all the tools to make it happen your going to enjoy what's called "Spatial Film Making".
Spatial Film Making adds video elements that helps you the audience experience my surroundings better and helps capture the look and feel of these old abandoned mines and their locations. For years abandoned mine documentation has utilized what's called FPV or First Person View. My goal is to make the experience for the viewer all encompassing utilizing many different camera elements and HD audio to offer the best possible viewing experience.
I want YOU the viewer to feel like your right there with me. I want YOU to feel the danger, hear the crumbling rock and see all the amazing things abandoned mines have to offer in wonderful 4K UHD, Ultra High Definition.
Without your help none of this would've been possible so I thank you all... TREMENDOUSLY... for your direct financial support, adding tips to the channels tip jar and purchasing channel merchandise via Teespring and Ebay. What you are seeing now is a culmination of what happens when 100% of all channel revenue goes directly back into the channel itself. I'm amazed at what has been accomplished in a little over three years and its YOU that helped make it all possible. THANK YOU!

    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING
Abandoned mines and ruined structures have many hazards and can severely injure or even kill you. Do not attempt to copy or re-enact situations or scenarios seen in this video. Stay Out and Stay Alive: • Gly Says... STAY OUT S...
NOTICE This video and all commentary therein including comments by the viewer is for entertainment purposes only and not intended to be instructional.
Whew! You made it this far? Good for you!
    Now enjoy the channel!

Good to see you're back at it again, sorry to hear about Randy and Scott not being with you anymore. The three of you made a good team and each brought to the table something as unique as the mines you're exploring. That said, even though you didn't go underground those were some pretty amazing historical sites and that drill rig was an awesome find. All the best Gly thanks for another episode.

The parts catalogs for the Caterpillar D13000 are based on the a range of power units numbers, and the 1940 parts catalog is for units with number 1N1 and up, so it's a 1938-1940 model (the D13000 was introduced in 1938).

It's a little sad to hear that the three of you are going your separate ways but I'm sure you have your good reasons for that decision and best wishes to you all, like was said before you all brought something to the party when together. It was a pity that you couldn't get into this mine but I found your exploration of the external artefacts fascinating so keep documenting those too. As a UK viewer we only ever saw old mineral mines from a Hollywood movie perspective and to see the nuts and bolts of some of the hardware makes it all seem real. Keep up the good work and long may you have the drive to keep producing good historical content fur us, as you'll see in the comments, there's a lot of love out here for what you do. Best wishes, Steve, Bridlington, UK

33:06 That is a flat 4 cylinder motor driving a vertical 2 cylinder compressor. 33:24 with video paused you can see the upper case piece edges match the lower case edges. As if this unit was running and went low on oil, seized the compressor pistons and that big heavy flywheel did the rest. Not uncommon on an old unit that uses a lot of oil and is running without someone watching it. Gly: It is good to see you back!

Good to see you Gly. Sorry to hear Scott and Randy are no longer around. Guess no mor Snozzolater 5000.
The Cat engine looks identical to the one in my 1952 Cat D8-2U. Do not think it's too much older. The heavy rail appears to be in the 40 to 50 pound range. If you measured either the height or base width and it was 3 7/8 that would make it 40#. At first the drill rig looked like a Keystone but it probably was cobbled together from parts of a steam traction engine.

Hey Gly! I am catching up on your videos and this one in particular literally struck home! The old compressor that you found at the 30 min 35 sec mark was made by Delco Ramey. Delco had a large plant in Dayton, OH. which was on that plate as well! Talk about getting excited seeing the name of the town that I grew up around and still live near! I grew up in a suburb of Dayton called Kettering, named after Charles Kettering who invented the electric starter for autos among other inventions. I actually took a screen shot of that plate 😁 That was really cool and so glad that you take the time to take pics of those plates for us! Keep up the great work!

You show us the scenery, you show us what you are exploring and you explain what you've found. Fantastic. Thanks and eep up the good work.

Gly , shame Forestry didn't ''accidently'' leave one of those Bat Gates unlocked ; that would have made for a full months worth of exploration videos , judging from the size and number of waste piles . --- When you showed us the back-end of the Drill Rig , I knew immediately what it was . The Well on my property in Pahrump was put in using a more modern version of that same type of ''Drill'' Rig which was mounted on the deck of a 35 ft. flat-bed truck . The Well Driller called it a '' Jumping Jack '' Drill Rig , and it doesn't ''drill'' the Well in the ordinary sense of the word , --- it ''Jumps'' the Well . The cutter-head looks like a very thick-walled length of well casing that has sharp cutter teeth on the bottom edge and a flapper valve inside . They install a Starter Collar where the Well is to be punched and then it's filled with Water from a 500 gallon tank trailer which they've hauled on site . After the soil has been softened up by the water , they raise the cutter-head to the top of the tower where it trips a release allowing the hoisting cable to ''free-spool'' and drop the cutter-head into the starter collar where it slams into the soil forcing the mud up through the flapper valve . This process is repeated until the mud starts to come out of the top of the cutter-head . An angled plate with a long steel pin on it is placed over the Well and the cutter-head is lowered onto it , the pin opening the flapper valve and draining the mud out . The cutter-head is raised , the angle plate removed , and the whole process repeated until the Well depth is attained . Then the cutter-head is removed and the Well Casing installed . ---- < Doc > .

I like where you are going with the channel. Your vision to bring the viewer "into the mine" is apparent in these first episodes (I watched them in reverse lol) of summer season '22 as the production values are clearly next level. Also, I like your deliberate cerebral approach as you actually drill down (pun) into each of the mines and study them to understand what the miners were trying to accomplish and what it all entailed. Strong work and thanks for taking us along for the ride!! You ROCK!

Since I don't see anyone else mentioning it, a (different) Cat D13000 s/n 1n1338SP was built in 1940 for the US Navy (configured as a genset). That same engine is also pegged as being a 1938 buiild powerunit & genset . Since this serial number is close, newer than 1938 =-) probably no later than 1941. If it was military surplus, the big question is when did the military surplus them.

Gly, that damage to the compressor could be from water filling up the crankcase and then freezing but I would need to look much closer to be sure. That starter can easily be rebuilt, you can still get overhaul kits for them and it has its original tag. I would love to rebuild a lot of what's up there and put them in a Museum, I used to do that kind of work for an Air Museum in Shafter, California. Wish I could go with you someday, I don't get around very well because of my knees so I would be a little slow. I can fix just about anything, I'm an FAA aircraft mechanic and I've been turning wrenches for over 50 years, I started before I was born!!! 😉 You have a great plan there Gly and I look forward to your travels no matter what the out come.👍👍👍👍👍♥️🇺🇸

Your Reputation is very good and the Park get a Dokumentation of the mine for free.
I like the way you filmed your Videos
    Looking forward what to come

The drilling rig at 35:00 is probably a water well drilling rig using a churn drill bit. "Churn drills are also called percussion drills as they function by lifting and dropping a heavy chisel-like bit which breaks the rock as it falls." My grandfather built one and used it to drill water wells around Briggsdale, Co in the early 1900's.

Regarding the corrugated metal building at 28:21 , is it possible that was some kind of shower room for the miners? "Don't waste hot water", galvanized tin interior walls, nails for hanging clothes?, a shelf (for soap?), a drain in the floor at the back right corner, limited windows, pipe coming out of upper right wall. Also could be a kitchen but I think shower.

Very nice. Sometimes it's great to just enjoy the surroundings and relics of old machines used in the processing.

Not sure on all the #'s on the D13000, but I believe the 44SP at the end denotes it as a 1944 model that was intended as a generator or winch. (Hard to find anything, the N I think is the assembly plant)
PS 21:32 I've got an 88 D250 with a granny gear NP435 and non-synchro first. Old 4 spd truck are the best!!!

I have been in the Imperial Valley Desert somewhat north of Yuma but still Cali when it was 125 degrees Fahrenheit. That's getting a bit warm. I would guess humidity was 1 or 2% making it survivable at least for a while with a water supply. Raise that humidity a good bit and I think it would be pure death. Stay cool and hydrated brother!

Glad to see you back in the field and all is ok with you, we missed you ! Great production on this one and the new drone work is fantastic! You do sure a great job on your explores and walk about with the geology and history with your great soft natured voice, not like a couple ‘squirrels or rabbits’ going 90 mph on the other explore shows. Loved the drill rig find… water only, no core samples from that rig, it ‘drilled’ by pounding /grinding the material inside the casing to a mud solution then bailed out. We found a neat one like that one in the back road of Utah a couple years back. Slightly newer as it had a wooden boom but attached to a steel frame and towed by old 40’s era truck (still attached). Have a great summer, can’t wait till next week!

All the bat bars seem like a big welding project in themselves getting the steel up the hill itself then lugging a welder etc ,some seem much older than others .

Really enjoy seeing these camps, and that Caterpillar engine, 8" stroke on that beast, low rpm. As a country we have not been around very long when compared to Europe. What we get to explore with you at most maybe 150 years old, but in that 150 year period is an amazing amount of history, at least in my opinion when you consider the advancement. Babies compared to Europe, but very experienced babies. Thanks Gly and sorry about Randy and Mr. M, hope to see them again. I'm the Daniel that recently emailed you. Looks like a 302 in your F100? One of my favorite engines.

Gly, I came across your channel well over a year ago. You helped me thru the “slow Covid” time at work. I truly love this channel and have gone back and watched EVERY episode. During Bobs “rebuild”, I had to find other channels to watch. I am now convinced that THIS channel is far superior to those channels. Your videography is top notch. Your knowledge blows the others away. My claustrophobia would steer me far from the places you go underground. So, THANK YOU for what you do! Greetings from Michigan Gly! On a side note, it does sadden me that the trio has parted ways. However, like you, I welcome a new chapter and new adventure. Stay safe brother!

Gly, maybe explore in a motorcyle/enduro style bike? They're a little easier on fuel and some of them are very off-road capable.
