For this quick video review, I hop in my friend Robert's 07 Shelby GT500 with a few minor mods. This was my first time ever driving any kind of Shelby product and it was a lot of fun-but it definitely shows that Ford has come a long way even with their GT models! The supercharger whine is intoxicating and I hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching!

Too bad Will Smith was not driving a real GT500 in that scene. You can tell when the car comes to a complete stop and he has to put it back in gear, you can tell that he is shifting it like an automatic although the 05-09 Shelby GT 500s did not come automatic lol
Funny thing is though, if you're driving an automatic and spin out, why would you have to take it out of gear only to put it back into drive?!

EVERY TIME I COME ACROSS THIS VIDEO IT JUST MAKES ME SMILE BECAUSE BACK IN 2014 I BOUGHT MY 08 GT500 AND WHAT A AMAZING CAR.TASCA HAD HIS DEALERSHIP PUT EVERY FORD RACING PART AVAILABLE AND ON TOP OF THAT CARROLL SHELBY SIGNED MY DASH ALONG WITH THE TASCA FAMILY. LOL I LOVE THE CAR AND I WILL NEVER SELL IT.

My Step Brother Matt had a 2007 Shelby Gt-500 and I loved it. He had like a Dark Blue almost Purple with white stripes and it was Beautyful!!

@@anthonylaudano9751 ah I am kinda confused at what I meant when I said all that... I was probably considering my dislike for the 3 valve engine as a whole. My mechanic for years just hated working on them and he had and 07 gt500 that he swapped to a 4v bored and stroked was making God knows what but had a very large blower. My actual boss at the time had an 08 gt500 Super Snake with 75 original miles on the clock. And this was 5 years ago max. He had a very impressive collection of all fords including an 06 black no stripe GT and he got selected at that time for the 2017 GT so he has that now. I would own say an 08 but nowhere near stock or original. Me, I've got an 800whp 6 liter diesel and I'm not scared of a boosted 4wd launch. Win or lose doesn't matter, its the adrenaline I get, that alone makes life worth it
@@stevenhinckle7597 you are not wrong, there is a stock 4 cyl shitbox Mustang II in my town that probably has 300k on it. Yes that is definitely the worst. The 05-12 mustangs were my least favorite in current times. They started getting decent looking again in 2013 for me.
They were actually selling extremely well, but dealers were marking them up to 70k when they first hit the floor. That's like 90k today.
Some dealers were wanting 100k in some places

When I see one of the 2007-2009 GT500s running down the road they look SOOO good. The 2010-2014 do too but sometimes I think they are a GT unless the stripes are obvious.
Bro THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE FROM A GT TOO A 500 STARTING WITH THE 5.4 AND A TON OF OTHER THINGS.
@@anthonylaudano9751 he's talking about the 10-14 gt500 look more like standard gts than 07-09 did and they're easier to mistake for a normal 5.0 which is true. His comment had nothing to do with the driveline which is obviously very different.

When these first came out, Ford had 30k mark ups on them. We went to go buy one in 2007 and saw a 75k price tag on it. I finally bought one 2 months ago !
Ford didn't have markup on them ,the dealerships had the markups on them. Ford has an msrp and dealers can sell them lower or higher depending on supply and demand. But yea 75k is insane...love these cars im gonna finally grab one in a year and a half when i pay off my daily (full bolt on, hybrid turbo 16 fiesta st that makes 280ish whp and torque and weighs 2600 lbs and averages high 20mpg lol). This would make the perfect nice day cruising, car show entering, drag strip visiting beast that i am looking for that is new school and old school at the same time in both looks and feel. These are so bad ass

What a car! This is even the very first model re-designed after the Cobra was born in the 60's, What a nice Shelby! The Supercharger whine is my favorite kind of relaxing especially when I want to watch car videos. Wish it lasts more because this 'Shelby is phenomenal so I've watched the vid 3 times. Loved your ride on this beauty!

I ever hit the lottery and this car is the first purchase I make. 2007 mint, red, stock gt500. Money would be no object.
Although the newer GT500’s perform better, this would be the one I’d own. Absolute favourite Mustang of all time. 😍
13 and 14 perform better 07-12 are basically the same except 11 and 12 has an aluminum block and knock sensors stock...outside of that once they're full bolt on they make the same power. The 10 and up have more power stock because of a better air intake and tune stock so they dont pick up as much in the aftermarket with these mods as an 07-09. Basically if you do intake and tune on a 07 and on a 12 the same ones they will both be making the same power the older car just gets a bigger jump in power because its lower quality stock. The 13 and 14 are better because of a little more displacement and a better blower stock but if you swap the same blower on the older gt500s they put down almost as much but still obviously less because of a little less displacement and less compression. I'm seriously thinking of picking up a gt500 in a couple years once I pay off my daily (16 fiesta st full bolt on hybrid turbo doing 280+whp on e30). I'm looking for 07-12 because they're the ones in my budget. The 13 and 14 while they are better cars they cost at least 10 grand more if both are clean low milage examples I think the older cars might actually be better bang for the buck if your plan is to modify it anyways because once mods come in...especially aftermarket blowers the difference becomes much much closer. These cars are animals I love them

I've driven these a couple of times and you're right... smiles for days when that supercharger whines and the exhaust rumbles! i will say this, going from second to third in the fresh rain on a cold day while on partial throttle, you better be awake lol.
I have the same model and colour. It took me awhile to relax and stop worrying about smashing it up. Now I like to bust it loose on a nice summer night.
I always see one of these, exact same red color w/white stripes, parked on the side of a busy neighborhood street everyday when I drive to work. The older man who owns it appears to daily drive it. He has a bunch of large tasteless G.I. Joe stickers on the side windows. It's his car so I get he can do whatever he wants to it. But to me that's the only eyesore. I guess his love for G.I. Joe as a child, carried over into his adulthood. I wonder if he still plays with G.I. Joe dollies? Anyway, whatever.

You're wrong these cars sold like crazy in 2007 and in 2008 so much so that you couldn't get one without paying dealer marks ups. This car was such a hit at inception that Ford canceled its limit run of 5000 units and stated that they will build one for whom ever wanted one. The 500 didn't start cooling of till 2009 in anticipation of the 2010's redesign which was a bust, people really hated the rear end.
Yeah, I totally remember those crazy dealer mark ups. I never remember any mark up any lower than $5,000
Robert Strimpel the GT350's are getting 10,000 dollar markups on the low side of things, it's ridiculous.

I don't know what it was like in your part of the country, but where I was at, we couldn't even buy these Shelby's when they first came out, because the dealerships put them all on auction. It had nothing to do with the movie at all. The Mustang Community alone wanting these Mustangs made them hard to get. They were supposed to retail for around 40K, but all the rich guys we're snatching them up at dealership auctions for around 80K.

I Am Legend had little to do with the sales of the car. They were going for $25,000 over MSRP which was around $41,000 at launch. The first real Shelby GT500 since 1970 was all the advertising they needed since there was a 37 year gap.

They weren't selling well at first because Ford said they were going to be 40-45k and dealerships had 30-40k mark-ups on them. They still sold every single Shelby within the year it was made, which can't be said for any other Mustang since the 1970s

That's what Iron does to a nose! We got aluminum, but it is the #1 thing I dislike about mine. The tendency to slide over the front wheels.
Still... I love my 05, and the 07-09 Shelby's look awesome!

I remember going to the Ford dealership here in Las Vegas in 2007 and seeing the first new GT500 on display in the showroom. The sticker price was $42K, however, there was a separate sticker next to it that simply read, "MARKET ADJUSTMENT $20,000." The dealer was charging $20K over sticker due to the interest in the new Shelby, making it out of my price range at the time at $62K. That carried over to 2008, but in 2009 they dropped the extra "adjusted" cost...the price for the '09 was $47,570. My "someday" came in June of 2009 when I bought this one; Torch Red with white stripes like yours here. 14 years later and the odometer just turned 125,000, and I still love it every time I get behind the wheel.
Has thë maintenance been a issue? Some people say they have plenty of issues, while others say if you take care of it like stay on top of oil changes etc, it’s pretty much a normal car.

It is a shelby gt500 mustang made by Ford. The model before this they were called svt cobras...this is basically a newer svt cobra with a different name...svt made this as well along with shelby himself although he wasnt all that involved with the actual making of the car they slapped the name on it because they own the rights to the name since they had the old 60s models of the same name.

@Reg Wayne I own a 08. Some mods and no issue. From what I read it becomes a problem when you use it in traffic conditions all the time.
ThatDudeinBlue I think part of that constant "pulling" sensation is from the softer rear springs dampening from the power
Nah, it was just the acceleration from the long gears. It's actually a lot less "violent" than my car is with the shorter gear ratio.

My dad used to have one of these. It was black and silver.
You’re wrong about how they sold. At the time, the economy wasn’t doing well and gas prices were over 4 dollars in some areas. There were also huge dealer markups on these. They still sold very well for the time. This car started the modern muscle car wars, and is the most inspired model by Carroll Shelby.

I have this exact car : )...1:18 scale autoart...but other than size the same car, colour and everything...just waiting for someone to make a 1:18 key to fit the ignition...! Love it lots : )

I like supercharger whine much better than turbo sound. It's so much more intimidating especially on a badass v8. The best sounding supercharged v8's are probably the 03 04 Terminator Cobra's.

That was awesome. I have yet to hear a supercharged car in person to know what it really feels/sounds like. From the internet, I'm not really fond of it. Much more into turbos... But, you never know. Haha it'll probably put a huge smile in my face anyway.

Curious, I bought a Black GT in 2006 then later upgraded to a 2008 Red GT500 with Silver KR stripes in 2011 after watching the movie "I am Legend". Seems I could not get the sound of that super-charger out of my head. Where did I buy it from? Virginia no less... Drove it home, installed a smaller 2.5" pulley, cold air intake, exhaust and a tune. Love it. Small world...

When I drove the Shelby, the power was rather smooth rather than "dramatic" like the turbo cars. Did you also notice this sensation?

i am debating weather to get a s550 GT coyote and the 07 08 gt500.
im at a cross roads because the shelby has more power than the 5.0 however I plan taking the car to the track and with the IRS in the s550 itll handle decades over the shelby
