- Historically speaking, interceptors are a type of fighter aircraft designed specifically to counter enemy bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. There are two general classes of interceptor: light fighters, operated over short range, - and heavy fighters which can be used in adverse weather conditions and over longer ranges. The p-38 is highly survivable. I once lost, at low altidue in a mountainous map, an engine and one wing (outwards from the lost engine) and still made it back to base

I love the Ki-45 Kai Hei Toryu ("Dragon Killer") and its Schräge Musik cannons. Though tricky to use, it often surprises enemy bombers, allowing you to shoot them down before they can aim their defensive guns at you.
But man, it's hard to use and kind of disorienting, I only pull it off 2~3 time

True but what I realize after using this for a long time is that any heavy shot or just regular 12.7mm ammo shot at the back rudder can rip it apart and make you lose control.
The best interceptor is the Ki 83:
Fast, climb like an Angel, turn well for a heavy fighter, get 30mm and 20mm
Ki 83 should be top for sure, it´s as agile as most single engine, it´s climb is superb and it packs one hell a punch
True, but because of this, it has high BR and doesnt meet that many bombers and can see early jets. Best interceptors are at BRs with B-17s and British bombers so you have actually something to hunt.
i strongly disagree. It's flight model reminds me of the Bearcat, it loses energy very quickly until it hits 450 IAS but then loses thrust at 300 and below, it also hits a hard wall of 700 IAS and can't get further from that and also takes 22 seconds to reach such speed with a -20 degree dive. I have dog fought the ki83 in many aircraft and I've never gotten killed by it. Hell, even the J5N1 is basically a K4 with air spawn and reaches 700 in 15 seconds at -20 degrees and keeps accelerating til 780... j5n1 also out rates the Ki83 at 450, it keeps accelerating when doing flat turns and has better energy retention so it's basically like a 109 in a dogfight

xp-50 is basicaly pay to win. Grind for many nations would be much easier if xp-50 is higher br.
The fun thing is that a lot of RB players come to Sim with the XP-50 and planes in Sim are really different from RB cause there you don't have the instructor to help you out, and XP-50 isn't that good in Sim, it's sluggish as hell (in turn fighting therms), it climbs great, but breaks wings easily cause u lock up diving (it's wing rip speed it's rather slow), and if you don't know how to use Manual Engine Control your engines will just burn out if you keep using it at 100% throttle (making it just good using 85% throttle)
It may not be an interceptor but the A36 always has a place in my load out

@@margaritasolis2708 For sure, 10 .50 cals spit out a LOT of lead. Just has the drawback of lower maneuverability and not performing as well at altitude/climbing.
Let's not forget the C variant of the Ta 152. Total of 4 20 mm mgs + a 30 mm mg. Less maneuverable than its H brother but It can definitely kick bomber ass even better than the H one
So can anything else with decent+ guns
This plane is dogshit
two 20mm and a 30mm is enough to split a B-24 in half with a single burst. The 152 H-1 also has a fuckton more lift which makes it better at turning away after burst no matter what speed you are at
I remember long time ago when playing this plane, a space climb bomber begging me to stop ground pounding because he losing his ticket advantage
The xp-50 has to be moved to 5.3. Where the lowest enemies they face are the j2m variants, yak 3 variants, and spitfires with better engines. Good job on the midmap AAA.
ikr, my max upgraded bf 109. is usually outperformed by it, and the bf 109 is one the best performing fighters for its BR. its broken. i joined about 2 years ago and am just getting into 4.0 Germany, and i just stop playing during events, because you see nothing but XP-50's and Wyverns. its not fun. i havent played since mid november, because i have no motivation, and the soul sucking grind is too much.
@@justacanadianguy07 lol I just bait them down low with my YAK-3 (min fuel), then hit 'em with a small burst of the busted ShVAK tracer belts. which usually kills them in like, 3-5 hits.
@@ayylmao8901 the yak is a good plane from what I heard. Compared to the 109, it has similar guns, it turns faster, but can’t climb as fast or go as high. The XP 50 is just downright broken. It turns like a yak, has the firepower of a P-38, and climbs as well as the 109F-4. It should go to 5.3. The great part is that many of the pilots are kids who stole their mom’s credit card.
@@justacanadianguy07 I'm not sure about 5.3, especially as yak3 and j2m2 exist at 4.3. I think removing airspawn and moving it to 4.3 would be more than enough, as I never had any trouble fighting them with j2m2 or yak3. The issue with 109F4 is that it relies on being the highest plane in the game, but that almost never happens if there is a non-brain dead xp50 in the other team thanks to airspawn. Flight characteristics felt similar enough between the two that I feel a duel at equal alt could go either way.
Edit: I played with all the planes I mentioned, my best plane out of them is j2m2 followed by xp50 and yak3 (i got yak3 the latest of all)
@@maheshtnt I like to counter dumb xp50 “pilots” with the bf 109 because of that German air brake that gives a nasty surprise
i like the italian SM 91 because of the 6 20mm cannons in the nose its pretty quick too for its battle rating of 3.7

Why don't they mention the Do-335 B-2? It was classified as an interceptor awhile ago in game. It has an insane climb rate, 3 30mm mk 103 high velocity cannons, 2 20mm mg151's, can withstand 500 mph in a dive without ripping its wings, has 2 engines and literally tears through the sky. Thing can reach bomber altitude faster than the Ta-152.

I love the bf 109 Z, but its wonderfull armament don't compensate the agility in the air...
As afrench main, the Potez family (at the right br) IS kinda fun and easy to play too

P61, that thing can do CAS and Boom and Zoom, the radar is a life saver, it eats auto cannon preventing a pilot snipe. and if you max crew your defensive armaments, you just need to aim your nose at the enemy and let it do all the work for you.
Narval and VB.10-02
They absolutely shred anything you get shots on.
Narval has 6 20mm mg151 cannons
VB.10-02 has 4 20mm Hispano 404 cannons and 6 12.7mm M2 Browning machine guns.
They may not turn well, the vb actually behaves really weirdly while turning sometimes, but that doesn't matter when a single burst can slice a bomber's tail off.
and in Italy, the SM 91
BV-155 and P-61 come to mind. These really should be in on the list.
I did miss the FW aswell. But i am Not sure if it counts as a interceptor
@@viggobeste9100 fw was built as a interceptor but its bad on war thunder due to slow climb rate tho it was killer on ww2 its engine modified to work better at high altidutes makes it prime predator aganist british planes and p47s

I really like the fw190D13. Its good performance and deadly in the hands of an good pilot.
Why are you listing Ki-102 as interceptor when it's actually an attacker? All Gaijin need to do is to add bombs to it and those have been reported long ago back in 2016.
Shame too. At Rank III it would be really useful for Japanese players for doing daily/special tasks, even without bombs. Good guns, heavily armored (for a Japanese plane) I would be great. But it's labeled as an interceptor in-game for whatever reason.
You forgot the landing flaps of the Ta 152 H1, being able to dogfight even spitfires

Ki-102 Otsu was a dedicated attack aircraft in real life, it was certainly not an interceptor.

I rank the Ta 152 H1 the top of the list, followed shortly by the P-38K (If you have a wingman of course, its too floaty otherwise).
152 H on top, a skilled pilot in that thing can dance on every plane listed here

The J1N1 in game is the recon version of the aircraft, J1N1-R
Theres a more interceptor like aircraft with designation J1N1-S with shräge Musik 20mm in the back and additional 20mm in the nose

My favorite prop interceptor is the yak 9 T and Korean war F4U Corsair with 4 20mm auto cannon.
F7F-1 Tigercat is my favourite because it hold 4, 20mm cannons and 4, 12.7 high caliber machine guns that can easily rim apart an enemy bomber or a fighter and ive taken down 3 early jets at once even tho i''ve lost half of a wing and one of the engines
i am more used to the japanese heavy fighters, the manouverability is just great, i know the begining ones don't have much armaments but they still get the job done. And tricking the opponents with schrage musik? just wonderful.

It's really nice to have aircraft and be able to use it in the maps. But then you've got 15 Fighters only on you no other targets available to them. I wish there could be people like if in their bombers stop calling out targets. Work together if I'm in your group as a bomber. There are plenty of targets on the ground. That's another thing. Because they can't destroy all of us with multiple bullets in the air like rain clouds.

I don’t have the Rs yet, but the 4 13.2 mm mgs and 20 mm cannon on the piston engine variants are really good.

I personally prefer p-47s for intercepting both bombers and fighters. I enjoy its “firewall” created by the 8 50 cals
Suggestion for versus channel.... Squadrons of the same plane go at it, see which plane is best.

as someone who doesnt own F-82 and was fighting against F-82 a lot of times, i can agree with it in the list, idk why people in comment thought its wrong but, it actually is scary.
its one of those plane i knew i wouldn't face head on, and will not try to go for energy fight, it got both.
All i need was one small mistake or a fortunate unskilled pilot to shot it down

I know the Hurricane MK IV is a force to be reckoned with. 2 30mm cannons and 2 7.7 mm machine guns on a fighter chassis leads to hell on bombers.

I mean, it's not bad if you use the vertical with flaps. obviously you don't turn with Zeros or Spitfires, but it's better than your average American prop

you guys serious missed out on the SM91, good top speed, above average climb rate, EXTREME firepower coming in 6 forward facing 20mm MG151s with minengeshoss, plus a defensive 20, and on top of all this you have a turn rate that is better than most American fighters of the tier
the mosquito asked the P-51 if she wanted to come round for a party and then the F-82 was born 9 months later
