This was brilliant to watch with all the edits and reactions used throughout the testing phase. I thought the intro and ending were amusing. Great job for digging deeper into the error codes for Sonic 2 Heroes and found the solution in the end (or at least how to make it work). At least Sonic Classic Heroes was like the improved version of its predecessor. 3 players, now we're talking full control.
It would be awesome to see an even more extreme version of this with Amy added as a 4th playable character so you could use that entire 4 player Multitap.
From what I remember, you *can* change characters while doing 3 players. The two players who wish to swap with each other must both press the swap character button at the same time, and it should switch between them.
Just saw the teasers for this and realised what the time was... On a side note I discovered you when you played this hack with Razor and Zenon all those years ago. Good times...
This was a really good video, I enjoyed while I watched the real hardware testing of the Sonic Classic Heroes hack. :) I hope Flamewing will release the next version on the next decade with more teams, more texture options and more features.

If i remember right, Sonic 2 Heroes constantly froze when i beat Wing Fortress, so i hung my head in shame and gave up on it. I loved the game until i couldn't complete it.

Wonderful video RHS! Yes Sonic Classic Heroes works on real hardware, although I personally encountered a crash in Oil Ocean Zone when I played it through but only once. Would have been nice if you showed the play footage from your European Mega Drive for a change seeing as the game booted up on that system, in saying that though I hate hearing Sonic 2's music slow, Flamewing and ColinC10 forgot to optimise the Sonic 2 half of the rom. Actually what they should have done was use both SMPS 68k for the Sonic 1 half and SMPS Z80 for the Sonic 2 half just like ColinC10's Sonic 1 & 2 hack. Now the Sonic 1 & 2 hack has bugs and crashes on real hardware but that's for another video. FUN FACTS: 1. It may interest alot of you that this hack has a reproduction cart available. 2. For some strange reason the PSG periodic hi-hat cymbal in this game is replaced by a PSG white noise one sounding inferior. 3. The entire soundtrack was done in SMPS V1 Z80 sound driver (not SMPS 68k).

Reminds me of the mechanics from some of the Sonic Advance games (Sonic Advance 3 definitely, not sure about the others) Where you could pick 2 characters, and depending on which pair you chose the main character would get different abilities, and they'd have a team attack. It was particularly amusing (though not the most practical) to combine Amy & Sonic, given she has special animations for it that aren't present with other character pairings... That should actually be fairly directly transferable to the older games, given it's designed for a 2d game...
Whoa, I wonder how the heck they managed to cram all individual color pallettes for Knuckles and Tails in Sonic 1!? Considering Sonic 1 being quite limited in terms of free memory space for color color palette. Sonic 1 has Palette #0 which has total of 16 colorswhich are shared between Sonic, Robotnik, Items and Badniks; Palette #1 - 16 level colors, and Palette #2 - 16 colors for the background sheets. One exception is Labyrinth Zone and Scrap Brain zone 3, where they got Palette #3 the alt colors for underwater level and character+items. My only thought is that the hack creators somehow managed to make separate color Palette#4 for Tails and Knuckles, and probably shifted some items in the memory cache, to create free space for palette.
I added this game to my Sega Genesis Mini. And it works just it does on a emulator, only you’re playing on a tv this time. Actually, Hakachi (correct me if I got that software name wrong) Has allowed lots of Sonic rom hacks to be played on the Sega Genesis Mini.

MAME is the most accurate emulator for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (but not for 32X or Mega CD/Sega CD) that I know. Despite the slowdowns (which can be fixed with not only a smaller windowed resolution but also by having a half-decent PC like a very overkill mid 2010's PC (like mine)) you can compared it with different emulators and even the real hardware is you want.
I found Sonic Classic Heroes on eBay, and twice I got copies that just would not work longer than 30 seconds before crashing on my UK pal Mega Drive, any advice on getting it to work?
@The eccentric owl Usually repros work and boot up better than original cartridges but there is a small chance that you have defectives there. Do other games work just fine on your PAL Mega Drive? Have you got a Mega-CD attached? If so, disconnect it and boot the game. Did you purchase both copies from the same seller? And was this seller from China or Hong Kong? I only ask because alot of dodgy sellers come from that region. Blow into the contacts and keep trying. You need to be very cautious where you buy cheap reproduction carts from, don't buy from sellers that don't accept returns unless they have a 100% approval rating. Because of Coronavirus I had to buy my reproduction cart of Sonic Megamix from Great Britain which cost alot more than my usual region of purchase which is China. All the post offices are closed over there in China so your parcel won't be shipped anytime soon. I recently bought Sonic Megamix on a reproduction cart and it works great! The only difference I noticed is that the SEGA screen, Sonic Modification screen and Sonic Retro splash screen were all missing, the game boots straight to the ''Team Megamix Presents'' screen and the control scheme is always set to ''Megamix'', classic control scheme in the preference options doesn't seem to work, other than that it's 100% the same as the downloadable bin hack.
My pal UK Mega Drive is the old Mega Drive 1 with nothing attached, it has always worked fine with every other game including another bootleg. Both cartridges were from different sellers but based on the design of the cartridges came from the same source. If none of my troubleshooting tips work it may be that the carts you have are faulty. The supplier of these bootlegs might be at fault especially if they look like they came from the same place, it might not necessarily be the seller's fault. You should ask for a refund if they don't work. Remember what I said in my last post, never buy reproduction carts from sellers that don't accept returns unless they have a 100% approval rating OR they have personally tested the cartridge themselves. In my case, my copy of Sonic Megamix was tested before hand and was bought from a seller with 100% approval rating. Good luck!
I think there is PDF file in S2 heroes zip file (because in sonic classic heroes zip file i saw PDF file ) and i can't load S.Classic heroes with PDF file in it (I used gens)
I'm still waiting for Sega to make a Full brand new 2D Sonic that you can play the campaigns alongside friends like this, with online multiplayer and different cameras for each player.
redhotsonic I have a mega drive 1 asia pal with mods of the regions and me only partially works sonic classic heroes; that is, the sonic team works fine with or without cheats. but if I use the chaotix team just doing a simple spin dash it ruins my BG, that is, it damages me and sometimes freezes it.
