My House Build Pt8 - Windows are in, Roof is ready for the roofing

- Hello! I've made subtitles for this video to explain a bit closer what we are doing and why. If you like it, I'l make them for all the videos I've uploaded so far.. It will take some time but the plan is a video every couple of days starting from the newest back.. Just make sure to turn on the CC :)
A lot of time has passed since last house video, good to be back. In this video you can see the work we have done in the last month or so.. I'm working on couple of other projects parallel to this one so the progress is slow but visible. We have put up the scaffolding, windows are installed and the roof is ready for the metal roofing.
Thank you for watching! If you liked this video, don't forget to press that thumb up icon and subscribe for more! :D

Subtitles are great, really nice to see more detailed explanations of a building style I don't know much about, keep it up
I had to watch a second time with subtitles on after reading this comment
Glad you like them! :)The plan is to make subtitles for all videos I have ever uploaded..
@ ditto
THERE'S SUBTITLES WITH DESCRIPTIONS?!!?!?! WHY AM I JUST LEARNING THIS!?!?!
(Edit, just noticed they're new and not on all the older videos - yes, please always have them, it's awesome)
@@lignumchannel Just like Primitive Technology?
For those not in the know, the channel Primitive Technology features no speech, but the videos have subtitles that explain everything. Be sure to turn on CC.
now that's what i love to see in a house construction: workers with security chords and walls made of concrete and not just wood. Lovely work. 10/10
I love the subtitles! If you want, I can proofread them before they go out, there are a couple of spots where it sounds a bit weird, but all in all, it's awesome!
Great project!
Glad you like it! And thank you for the offer but with all the hustle I have all the time it would complicate it even more for me, besides, mistakes make it authentic;) Thank you for your offer once again!
@@lignumchannel Yes! Mistakes is how I know they were not machine-generated. A well-written CC generator will still put e.g. Benz instead of bends or would instead of wood, but it would not use double spaces or mispell words.
It's fun to see the different building methods used around the world.
That is true. Always something to learn and give new ideas.
Can't wait to see more of the inside of the house. Now with the windows in place the building is started to feel more like a home. Great job!
You and me both! and no more draft:) Thank you!
I love seeing the differences between your piece of Europe and how we do it in northern ontario.....I feel like your home would be way nicer in the winter
I really hope it will. The glass on the southern side worries me a bit. The house and the roof overhang is modeled so the sun doesn't reach the interior during the summer but does during the winter when it's closer to horizon. It should help heath up the house, floors will be dark polished concrete so they will soak up the sun. That's the idea but I will have to wait and see how it will really work..
It's been fantastic watching so far and the subtitles are a great addition! I'm intrigued as to what the neighbours think of the project?
Thank you very much! Glad you like the subtitles! Everybody who saw it thinks it's cool.. I hope they are sincere and that they just don't want to hurt my feelings;)
Perhaps they think the house was designed in the USA as it is not a traditional style but was fabricated with Croatian Building Strength to last 1000 years. I Love This House!!!
@@lignumchannel I would love for you to build a home for me. How far do you travel to building sites?? Your Home Is Amazing!!!
That's how you end up with a house built to that standard: do it yourself! Very impressive, and the tech notes in the subtitles are a nice touch.
Thank you! Glad you like the project!:)
Continues to be such a fantastic build!
I get the bonus of rewatching with the subtitles. It's like a 2 for 1.
Thank you!:)Then don't forget to check other videos from time to time;) I'l be adding subtitles every couple of days, starting from the latest videos..
Great!
@@lignumchannel Could you tell me the manufacturers name for the windows please. They are sweet. Here in the USA we don't have them. Thank you.
@@lignumchannel I found it. You stated it in another reply. Thanks.
7 videos into the series, convinced that this could be anywhere, he gets out the Croatian flag :) Congrats to my copatriot! I was thinking to myself, this seems like a very diligent work and I wished our builders paid so much attention to 3-4 insulation layers like you did. I was proven wrong... We do build well and diligently :) CESTITAM i bas uzivam u ovom serijalu!
Im from Croatia and i saw that the buildings and landscape was familiar to me and i thouth it had to be somwere in the Balkan until i saw Croatian car plates, i think in 1st or 2nd video. Btw you can see Croatian coat of arms so you can recognise our car plates and it says ZG witch means he is from or from around Zagreb.
Bosnia? I spent a year of my life all over that place. (1995-1997 IFOR)
Zupanja, Slavonski Brod, Doboj, Gradakack, Tuzla... (The spelling is probably off).
Good to see you building a solid structure. Been following along for a while.
Among all videos about building on the internet, this one definitely cleared things out a lot better than the others. Will view them all in more detail soon. When are we getting a new video? Looking forward to one with the roof installation, and also the start of finishing the house of on the inside and outside walls etc.

Wohooo update! Can't wait for full build with interiors
Us too!:)
WOW. Such an isolation.
The flag sequence was nice.
Thank you very much!:)
I am enjoying the build process tremendously. Very interesting to see the way you build in your part of the world. I am not surprised to see the level of precision that you work to as that is always evident in your projects. I bet you will be pleased to finally get in, if you haven't already. Congratulations on a job well done.
Glad you enjoy it! Yeah I cant wait to move in, still a lot of work to do.. At least we will work in a shade:)
stvarno ne štedite na izolaciji :-)
kuca stvarno izgleda zanimljivo. sretno u nastvaku i kasnijem zivotu u njoj.
Gotta be, by far, the coolest house on the block!
Thank you so much Breno!:)
My regards to "the" foreman!!!! ;) 8x480mm screws... OMG, God bless the impact driver!!!! Looks awesome, cheers from Buenos Aires guys!!!!
Thank you for another great video in the build series, we thought you finished the house and forgot to film it for us.
Great videos. Watching it the second time I noticed the dance routine. Very cheeky!
I’m happy when I watch your videos.
Thank you so much!:)
We have a similar tradition in the US when topping off a building but instead of a flag, tradition is to attach a fresh cut tree branch with the leaves still on it, to the highest point possible. We also have another tradition on buildings with elevators. We have a “Top-out Party” just before the lid (roof) is poured, over the elevator shaft. The elevator shaft always has a hoisting beam (steel ‘I’ beam) at the top. We paint the beam white and then everyone that worked on the building, that’s at the party signs the beam with a black sharpie.
This building is constructed way better than 99% of buildings in Croatia.
07:40 와......지붕 단열이 엄청나게 대단하네......
보는 내내 감탄이 절로 나옵니다.
Congradulation for reaching the highest point an 300K
Man, I thought those window shutters were overkill... and then you started on the roof! Bravo sir, bravo.
Lots of interesting stuff going on here, insulation I think is maxed out, good job, windows = awesome, ceiling panels recycled boxing also awesome and 10 points, not convinced about the vapour barrier but your call and thats fine, worried about the 100x100 roof extension posts but then saw the purlin fixing screws and felt relieved although I don't like them countersunk like that cos they can pull through, CNC work really innovative tooling and robot arm. You are doing flush finished solar panels and storage etc to the out building I hope/suspect as the sun shadow seems to suit it. All together this is an amazing watch and your video work which must be a pain to do is right on point, yes do please continue with the subtitles, the why is as important as the what. Great respect to you and remember not every day seems productive but it is.
I čagica i zastava. Video ima sve :)
:D Da da, još da sve to ide malo brže, bilo bi super..
@@lignumchannel tebi super ide, ja građevinsku još nisam dobio 😅
Catching up, looking good so far!
Each video is a pleasure 👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Atik!:)
Zaštita na radu, svaka čast. 👍
Trudimo se koliko možemo:)
地基处理的很好,防潮做的很到位,令人舒适的建造过程。加油!
Croatia is such a beautiful country 😍
Yes, I must agree:)
Subtitles are great, thank you :)
Glad you like them! Thank you!
looking really good - those screws for the roof are enormous !!
Yes, longest I used so far.. They were hard to find, I called 10 shops all over the country and nobody ever was selling those.. Finally I found some In the nearest screw shop to my house, and from Berner ..:)
Well done sir - it’s very enjoyable to see the house come together
The lady on these videos makes me laugh, she is having a lot of fun. Love the whole series.
Yes she is!:) Until the part where we started installing the wool hehe.. Glad you like the Project!
마지막 크로아티아 국기가 인상적입니다 ^^ The last Croatian flag is impressive ^^
Thanks for the subtitles, it answers most of the doubts I had about those small details! Some of the solutions you use are really out of the box, love watching your videos because I'm always learning new things. I can only imagine how much you spent just in screws for the roof, bet they're from SPAX. I'm really enjoying this series!
Thank you very much! I'm not sure who the maker of the screws is, I got them from two different stores and makes, but yeah, it took a while.. Glad you like the subtitles, I cant believe I didn't start putting them earlier..
Brilliant design!
Why?
Well done, it was a neat job 👏
Good my friend
Thank you very much
Fascinating build! The windows are absolutely astonishing, could you let us know who is the supplier?
I was wondering the same thing! I wonder what company made them.
The Foreman dances too? Is there any talent she doesn't possess? Another fantastic video.
:)Full of surprises! Thank you very much Lyndon!
Congrats on 300000, man.
Thank you so much! You are the first to notice😁
I really like your video. Especially building this house. And I want the video to continue. This time the video seemed to come a little late, hopefully in the coming days the video will come a little sooner. And good luck, may your channel still be successful.
Yes I have a lot of other work I have to do so the house is a little neglected lately.. Hopefully I will have more time for it soon.. Glad you like the video! Thank you!
@@lignumchannel I appreciate..
Incredible Build!!
Очень круто!!! Смотрю каждое ваше видео))
Thank you very much!:) I'm glad you watched them all! Not so many people did.
"Is it too long for a house ?"
"No, it is adequate for this geat construction. "
❤
Glad you think so.. It really takes long time..
Why so much roof on that roof🤦🏼♂️it’s like 3 feet of roof then more roof and still no roof when the roof video is finished, are we getting a round two video of the next 3 feet of roof and then the actual waterproof roof will finish off the roof ?
I had to watch it twice... The first time I forgot about the subtitles. I'm not complaining though ;)
:) Don't forget to check other older videos now and then.. I'l be putting subtitles every couple of days..
wow! I love the design of the windows with the shutters! May I please know the manufacturer?
Keren sekali gaya arsitekturnya sangat menginspirasi
Amanzig work! Thanks for sharing! best regards
Thank you very much Omar!:)
Absolutely Brilliant 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you Bobby!:)
@@lignumchannel my pleasure 🥳
Thank you so much for showing detailed roof construction video. could you please let me know What type of material (mud colored) they are filling between truss and beneath the carpet . Am hailing from Kerala , india . It’s been very hot in our house because of concrete roof , could you if please let me know how is this roof being constructed so that we escape from such humid and hot weather in Kerala ? . Thanks again
Lol that dance was adorable
Yes it was, favorite part of the video:)
A well insulated roof this, never seen 3 sheets of rockwool going on top of each other.
But it would have been better to have the electrical conduits under the damp proof membrane to avoid making that many holes in it, even the best taping will never seal it up to a degree of damp tightness as the undisturbed membrane has. But luckily rockwool can manage some dampness quite well.
I had it stored for 4 years so why not use it, a bit more than usual can't hurt:) Yes I was thinking about the two options but finally decided to this one. It would be too much trouble to place the conduits and then miss them with all the posts and that steel profile. Also walking on top of them without damaging the membrane would also be quite difficult. I could probably do it and it would be better but just too much hassle..
How wonderful
Thank you! :)
Have you done a $/square metre calculation? How does it compare to 'traditional' homes in the region? Excellent video, thank you for sharing. Subtitles are great by the way!
Not yet, I have to finish it first.. But i think it will be significantly cheaper because I don't have to pay other contractors and rent the crane, scaffolding and equipment..
❤️❤️❤️ next part please 🙏
Well how do you replace those wire /conduits when they are damaged ? Cause it's like buried under the wool
izolacija je super i kucaje za 10 plus od kojeg matrijala je izolacija hvala puno Ivica
Subtitles are perfect!
Thank you Simon!:)
Is this a residential house for like a family? Or is it a commercial property. The title says house but the process seems like an apartment complex.
Are you going to install solar palens ?
Very nice. Are those zombie proof window shades?
Highly doubtful:D
Why didn't you use something like gutex or PU for insulation on your roof instead of rockwool. Never have seen it done that way is there a benefit?
I think it's because of price, availability, fire resistant properties, among others.
Mostly because I had 80% of it stored waiting for my house project. It was surplus from one project we did some time ago..
What is the approximate snowfall in the area? I understand the rigidity of the roof structure, but how will the lower left roof corner withstand downward pressure from heavier snowfall without support? Is the multilayer roof rockwool insulation there for noise supression since you said you will have metal sheet roofing or added insulation benefit of a different sort?
I am no engineer to be the judge of anything that you've come to show us, just asking to learn something new :)
Best of luck in finishing the facade and interior, so far you have done a tremendous job.
THank you! There is a quite significant snow load here, 150kg per m2. When Calculated by structural engineer, cross section turned out 10x30cm and at that load beams with the highest forces were used cca80%. I was A bit woried so I enlarged the cross section of all beams by 2 cm in height. Also 3 beams with highest forces I widened them by 2 cm to 12x32cm just to sleep peacefully. The thermal insulation also serves as noise insulation, hopefully it will work at least until I save enough money to put the solar panels on..
@@lignumchannel Tko vam je radio projekt konstrukcije ako se smije znati?
@4:36 haha, was that a test to see if you watch *all* the recorded footage? (And sadly now she's been outed to the world, probably less likely to try it again 😆)
But, as others have commented - loving the subtitles explaining the steps, particularly with the extra U channel steel (fingers crossed it doesn't get tested)
:)We will have to wait and see, maybe now she will try something else. Yes, there were two quite near in 2020, one 5.5 and 6.3 magnitude so It is better to be safe than sorry..
Few weeks ago I was looking for European house building process videos and discovered your channel, I found exactly what I wanted since you are my neighbor country so the style I wanted is similar . I know very little about construction so it’s really interesting and subbed but the wait for the next episode was killing me :D
Kudos to your wife, she knows more about construction than me for sure :D
I wanted to ask at the relevant part but I was not sure if you notice there but I’d like to ask a lame question. As I said I know little but never seen poured second floor concrete only concrete beams. How much stronger is your method? How much weight it can hold(kg/m2)?
:D Thank you very much for the sub! Yes, I'm pretty sure she now know how to build a house by herself:) As to your question, ceiling slab is calculated to withstand 4kn/m2 of layers and walls that will divide rooms and aditional 2Kn/m2 for furniture, people etc. Together 600kg but when calculating a lot of safety factors are getting multiplied so in reality it can withstand a lot more.
@@lignumchannel oh then no need to worry about weight limits on the second floor, thank you for the detailed answer :)
Il' je svadba ili je krov pri kraju😁🤣. Kod nas u Hercegovini malo također šahovnica, ali sa malo drukčijom krunom
Is that flag is it "Topping out" in Poland we put some flowers and wooden tools and it is called "wiecha".
I got one question about windows, do You use isolation tape around windows, vapor permeable and vapor resistant or only foam. In new houses we also install windows on a special thermal resistant material and they are "outside" window opening like in same plane with outside isolation. In Poland is much colder than Croatia so no need for such additional costs.
yes each country has its customs, this is a Balkan tradition I guess:) When installing the wall insulation we make sure that styrofoam is in contact with the window all around. And to be honest I haven't done it for like 10 years so I will have to do some research, some isolation tape could be involved.
@@lignumchannel I found this video, look for something similar. Windows are much better insulated with those tapes. ruclips.net/video/ksQ_6qb-xH4/видео.html&ab_channel=Gradnja
This is in some part of europe?
Grandios!
Thank you Werner!:)
I am wondering what is the R value of the insulation of the roof? You use so much insulation!
Highest value in the table for this wool is R38 at 241mm, I used 300mm.
Lijepo je vidjet kad neko radi po svim preporukama kako treba :) Srecan rad, trebo si nam javit da se dizu rogovi, tradicija je i da se svrati s gajbom piva :) :) 1000km gore dolje je komsiluk, zar ne? :)
Ha da više manje.. :) Cekaj još treba rogove od nadstrešnice postavit;)
Nice
Thank you Dunia! :)
if what we see from the half on is the construction of a ventilated roof system i'm losing my mind on that build
Dito sa pinas palagi ko iniisip pag may kahoy ang bahay delikado sa anay., wla bang anay sa ibang bansa?
Where can I purchase those windows?
They are pretty much a standard anywhere in Europe.
I’m very interest to the cost of building
:D Yeah me too.. Still a lot to do..
i don't think this video is on your "my house" playlist yet.
WOW!
:)
в случае земелетрясения, швелер оторвёт...
Are those rouladen windows?
Manufacturer of profiles is aluplast and the joinery factory that installed them is called Žema.
такие длинные винты зачем вкручивать? на них будет еще и подвесной потолок внутри дома?
Там полметра минеральной ваты
There will be no false ceiling underneath, the wood will be left visible. Screws are so long because all the wooden layers have to be connected to load bearing beams underneath. The layers are together 40 cm (2.5cm boards, 27.5cm posts, 2.5cm horizontal boards, 2.5cm vertical boards, 5cm horisontal planks) so screw has to be at least 6 cm longer. I used 48cm screws.
Is that glass wool?
Stone wool from knauf insulation and rockwool
Τhat is a "polar" amount of roof insulation...!
👍👍👍
Glad you like it Andrew!:)
@@lignumchannel unfortunately I don’t know your name, but I’m very glad that you get a magnificent house 😎
Ovo nije krov, ovo je zgrada na krovu.... Čudo!
Kapa do poda, stari. Gušt videa za gledati, cjelokupan opus.
Hvala puno Jakov!:)
Yeeees!
:)
In America this would cost 10 million
I watch all the part of these amazing construction but for the roof instead of all these stuff that they put on it, it would have be simple to puut a concrete slab.
The main idea was to have visible beams and wooden sheeting for interior so concrete slab would defeat the purpose. Also I doubt it would be easier to assemble the shuttering at 6m height. I'm glad you like the series, thank you for watching Volbert!:)
This is without doubt the most over engineered house I have ever seen built. There is no way this is a standard build.
It's totally mad! It might be a civil-engineer-owner gone totally over the top but how on earth do the workmen know what they're doing? Can't imagine they get asked to do something like this very often!
This is more or less the standard for Croatia, all the neighboring houses are build with the same method just look more traditional. Roof is a bit different because I decided to leave it visible from underneath. Europe has tight regulations for energy efficiency and we sit in a highly active seismic region where 6+ Richter earthquakes happen regularly. In 2020 we had two, one 5.5 with epicenter 35km away and 6.5 60km away. Also we build houses to last for generations without the need for major adaptations. European construction method is engineered exactly as much as it should.
Интересно, сколько времени уйдёт на работу под ключ?
I wonder the same thing:)
