      Pple do get killed unexpectedly on their homesteads by bears.
      It happens. Not to many yrs ago a guy came home and his wife and kid were killed outside by a bear.
      It happens fast.

      We actually have moose that walk through daily. They can be quite aggressive. There was someone just recently stomped to death by a moose about a month ago on the peninsula. We would rather be prepared because the come up so quietly, you might not know they are there until they are a few feet away. They aren't bothered by the noises at all.

    Greetings from Talkeetna. My husband stands and stares off into the woods, too❤. He's out in the backhoe pulling stumps and moving big rocks right now. We are a Milwaukee & Stihl household. If one of those companies builds it, there is a good chance we have one. The house is going to be rock solid.

    I agree that you buy the better tools if you are going to use them most of the time. Normally buy 1 time use tools (cheap) to get a unique job done, those tools normally take up space in my tool cabinet for a long time before I use them again or get rid of them. Good job overall on the base. Excellent video!!

    I actually started using Harbor Freight's Hercules impacts. It's very comparable to my Milwaukee. For the price and the fact that I can walk into any HF store with anything wrong with it and walk out with a new one works for me.

    • @northtoalaska2022
      @northtoalaska2022  7 месяцев назад +1

      I wish they had harbor freight here, so much good value for certain tools. I don't have any of their power tools but I have one of the mechanic's tool chests, great buy at $1100. A comparable snap-on box is $14k, huge savings! We use a lot of other good hand tools and gas powered tools that have been well worth it from them and saved a lot of money.

    To an old builder, your project looks great. HOWEVER, I learned the hard way to pay come extra money and use Simpson tie-downs and joist hangers. I never used nails to tie something together - I used coated screws. They are a lot more expensive than nails or air-nails. But, they don't squeak on floors and the don't pull out. Your comment on Milwaukee is right-on.

    I am utterly so impressed with the meticulous planning and execution of your support/subfloor system. If the crawl space is insulated and enclosed your cabin will be standing for decades to come. Might I suggest that after your insulation is installed in your floor system that you add a barrier if 1/4 inch builder's mesh to the bottom of your floor joists to keep vermin and other creatures from taking up residence in your floor system. ou guys make an amazing team, so impressive!

    Nice video.
    Not sure that the tool comparison was really fair. Comparing a 2 amp battery with a 5 amp battery doesn't seem right, even being partially discharged. I had a Bosch cordless drill and loved it, but after several years, the batteries were obsolete and when you found one, expensive. I went to Ridgid. Tools and batteries are guaranteed for life. No question that DeWalt and Milwaukee may be better tools, but the guarantee and battery replacements are game changers for me.

    Don’t be afraid to use a pump sprayer to damped (not soak) twisted ply and weight it down to straighten it. You can do that when screwing down ply decking sheets so they take the exact shape of floor joists to prevent floor noise and creaking, also as the moisture evaporates it pulls the adhesive into the sheeting grain and acts like extra down pressure to the adhesive-bold!

    Its looking awesome! I'm rooting for you to get the house dried in before the snow flies! Its good to see you overbuilding everything, especially since you are in a seismic zone. Just wanted to mention (as a framer), you always want to block between joists at the load bearing points--where they sit on each beam...especially since yours are spliced there. Otherwise, everything looking good. You might try using your drill for the lag and timber screws instead of the impact...much quicker and quieter. LOL
