I went to school for ag service technician but after 4 years of not working on a single diesel motor my 06 f250 had injector failure in cylinders 1,2,3. This guy just with this video alone saved me nearly 3,000 dollars in labor costs alone from taking it somewhere else. I had pretty much every last tool except the long torx bits but other than that I was able to do it all on my own in a couple of days. Wish there was a video for the driver side as well though.
@@InTheShop oh ok. Thank you. I had no prior knowledge of mechanic work other than oil changes before I went to college for those 2 years. It helped a lot but still there was much to learn and this vid helped a lot. Thanks.
I been an Auto tech for 38 years and never worked on diesel before and now I have to replace injector #7 on a friends truck your video did the magic for me Thank you very much
Just finished this job. This video was a tremendous help. Going to add my own tip here. The clearance on those rocker cover bolts just ended up being too close. I had to have another solution. I found that if I remove the 6 or 8 screws holding the A/C box cover on, that I had much more room to access those pesky fasteners I was really after. Now putting the cover back on is a little tricky, but its flexible plastic and it will eventually wiggle in. As for how the truck runs, I think I might need a new VIN number!
Just did the 4 passenger side injectors today on my dad's 6.0, and couldn't get the leverage on the #7 injector without taking off that evaporator cover. This is definitely a great thing for folks to keep in mind if they're encountering a really tight hold down bolt on that #7 injector!
Thank you so much for such a very informative and detailed video. You have been very helpful. Thank you for informing us of which tools 🧰 needed and parts needed.
Hey buddy you do awesome work!. And this is by far the best how to video i have ever seen. Man it's great every detail. And you take the time to walk through every little hint to help with every step from start to finish. Thank you so much
Doing my first injector replacement on my 03 6.0, this video is super helpful. Judging by your accent your about 1 state away from me, what I'd give to have you walk me through how to do it. Thanks for your help again.
Thanks for making this video . My 6.0 has started doing the hot hard start and I’ve had 2 injectors replaced before and it costed an arm & leg . Now I’m gonna just replace them all and be done with it.
READ THIS COMMENT FOR STANDPIPES DUMMY PLUGS: I was a little confused when he started talking about these. If you have the 2003-early 04 model 6.0 you do not have dummy plugs and your stand pipes are completely different than the ones he is talking about. You will need a 18mm socket to remove the early style standpipes. However there is no need to remove these for preventative maintenance, unless they are the culprit to your problem. I learned this the hard way. They will bend on you due to torque when removing and you will need to replace them. This confusion is costing me another week without my work truck waiting on the correct parts. Other than that this video is fantastic!
hello just writing to let you know that you have helped me a ton. you do a great job explaining what needs to be said and no more. thank you for the help.
Great video! Only hiccup I had was my torx bit fell out of the injector bolt and went right down the oil drain hole in the head. After a couple hours, I successfully fished it out with an inspection camera with a magnet attached to it. It fell about 10" down the drain hole. Next time I'll be sure to stick the end of a long piece of hose into the hole to prevent that from happening. Everything else you said was spot on!
Blue Point. Part number BTWS for the oil rail near the box. If you are taking the head off, (cab on) remove the side if the heater box and no need to remove a motor mount, lift the tyranny etc.. Awesome videos.
I am looking at needing to do the oil cooler and I know I have a bit of stiction going on so this seems like a good time to do the injectors as well since I am already going to have the intake off anyway. Thanks for the video.
Your video is very straightforward and doesn't cut out necessary info for newbies. And you respond to most of the comments and questions. I'm about to get started now.... Someone mentioned removing glow plugs when first starting to avoid hydro-lock. Is that an issue?
For your T40 or T45, you do not want too long of a bit. Snap on makes one S6340E that is slightly over 3", while a "long T40" is usually about 4" and will interfere with the evaporator box on #5 and #7. Also VIM makes a stubby Torx set which is great for the T30 hold down bolts on the passenger side.
@@InTheShop No problem, I just got my truck together on Tuesday from doing the injectors. The stubby torx set I bought is here: www.amazon.com/Tools-HCT1050-10-Piece-Half-Cut-Driver/dp/B000VUM6BU
Also, you didn't mention checking the nipple cups, I had a few that were pretty easy to move in the rail and I'm sure they were leaking. Ended up going with the hhc nipple cups and new orings from hhc diesel. 170k on my truck.
Thank You! I replaced #3 and found a broken rocker arm . got it replaced but I had to cut a hole in the heater box to be able to pull the head bolt. Anyhow it worked and I owe you one.
What oil do you recommend for these 6.0s? I live in michigan, tried 15w40 t6 and truck didn't seem to like it. Tried 5w40 t6 and it likes that better but seemed to run best with 10w30 motorcraft. Any advice here would much appreciated

Thanks for the tips, always good to know what I'm getting into. Appreciate your time and effort to make a good video especially detailing the tools needed.
Can injectors be bad after warming up? I'm getting a P0263 on cylinder 1 with a brand new build. Everything mechanically is new. I didn't opt to replace sensors because they passed all test and had 132k miles on them. After the build, the truck would turn over 2 or 3 times and fire right up. Now is about 8 times to start and then a bad rough idle after about 20 miles. I'm told a new injector could be bad. Your thoughts?
Another great informative content video! I have a question not related to injectors/engine. I want to try adjusting my OEM gear box. Only want to do a 1/4 turn adjustment. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, what type of gear box would you recommend? Thanks for all you do making your videos!
Joseph Cirelli thank you! As far as the swearing goes I typically avoid trying to adjust the box. They usually get worn in the center but not at the locks. You will take the play up in the center of the travel but at the left and right it will be too tight. I have had great luck with blue top steering boxes.
My truck was stolen and stuck in the mud on the river. I drained the transmission and engine . The crankcase had clean water coming out for about 8 seconds then just black oil. I’m going to take the injectors out and crank the engine. Ford wanted $3600 when I called them. Looks like I’m going to learn how to work on a 6.0 . I had seen diesel tech Ron’s video and y’all are right in line with each other down to the upgraded dummy and standpipes. Quick question sir. please help me out here, this is my first diesel truck. My truck has the long cold crank issue and last week I replaced the stand pipes and dummy plugs. Hey i have an 06' 6.0 im gonna be changing out my injectors, oil cooler and egr cooler. I was wondering if i need to flush out my coolant system also?
I always recommend flushing when changing the oil cooler.
I think they are all oe and if standpipe is one piece can I get it out without lifting up cab?
The stand pipe will separate. None of them are actually once piece. Loosen it and lift it up out of the rail and you will see the seam.
Quick question sir. please help me out here, this is my first diesel truck. My truck has the long cold crank issue and last week I replaced the stand pipes and dummy plugs. I think it helped a little. When I opened the valve cover on the passenger side, I found a very small piece of broken black rubber or black wire on top of the oil rail. But, today the check engine light came on with error code P0273. Any idea what could be the problem? do I need to replace injector # 5? Thank you. 2006 F250 with 217k miles.
Thanks for all the tips. Is there any risk of hydro lock, when doing injectors from the fuel falling down into the cylinders?
Its a very small amount of fuel and won't lock the motor up like it does on the 7.3s with the oil and fuel draining from the heads.
Right on thank you, everything’s prep’d motorcraft injectors will be here and installed tomorrow.
