  • This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Porsche Macan EV compact luxury SUV. There are two models of the Macan EV available, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Porsche believes these models will fulfill their customer’s needs through its timeless design, performance and practicality. Porsche’s goal is to offer the sportiest performance EV model in this segment.
    The Macan EV uses the latest generation of PSM electric motors on the front and rear axles. In combination with launch control, the Macan 4 produces up to 402 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The Macan Turbo 630 horsepower and 833 lb-ft of torque. The Macan 4 goes from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and the Macan Turbo 3.3 seconds. That’s 0-60 in 4.9 seconds for the Macan 4 and 3.1 for the Turbo. The two models reach a top speed of 220 and 260 km/h. That’s 136 and 161 mph. The range has not been announced yet, it should be available closer to the delivery date which is the second half of this year.
    The Macan EV has a 95 kWh useable battery and is compatible with 800 volt charging architecture with charging speeds up to 270 kW. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes. This EV uses an 800-volt architecture for faster charging. Many current DC fast chargers can’t put out energy as fast as the Macan EV can accept. But Porsche has a workaround for that problem. At a 400-volt charging station, a high voltage switch in the battery enables bank charging by splitting the 800-volt battery into two batteries each with 400 volts.
    The Regen braking allows up to 240 kW of power to be recuperated via the electric motors while driving.
    Both Macan EV models come standard with air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic damping control which features dampers with two-valve technology.
    For the first time, the Macan is available with optional rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. The Macan EV can tow just over 4400 pounds.
    The Macan EV is available to order now with delivery in the second half of the year. In Canada, the Macan 4 starts at $99,300 CAD and the Macan Turbo $125,300 CAD. In the US, the Macan 4 is $80,450 USD and the Turbo $106,950 USD.

      Nah the audi q6 starts at a higher pricing than the macan. The q6 etron starts at 110k cad while the macan e starts at 90k. The macan e has a lower pricing than the q8 etron too (q8 etron starts at 150k). I currently drive a bmw m5 comp matte black 2022 and a cayenne s hybrid cumulus blue 2024. (I considered a q8 but they were so much more expensive). I’m currently looking to switch my m5 comp for something similar (probably a panamera gts or smth). I’m also looking to add an electric luxury vehicle, a phev isn’t enough to save the gas cost. My only options currently is the eqe suv (87k) and a bmw ix (79k) and the macan e turbo (125k)

      The smart manufacturers learn from Tesla and implement battery preconditioning in colder temps. It will warm up the battery to get the most out of charging. Will that extend your range? Nope but it should allow for shorter charge waits provided 800 V stations are on your route. Besides, what idiots are doing road trips in winter? Not me. Edit: You buy the vehicle that suits your purpose. EVs are definitely not for everyone contrary to what you're told by your government.

    @motormouth thank you for the awesome review..as a Porsche enthusiast I had to watch this one right away.
    I really like the look and wish the newer Gas Macans would replicate this look, however 2 things
    1. The Porsche brand to me is about performance, racing, craftsmanship. I want to hear that exhaust note especially in Sport plus in my GTS Macan. I would never pay this for an electric vehicle.
    2. After the many videos and reviews I see that Taycan have taken a huge depreciation hit.. some losing up to $70k ( US). I suspect that this will be a huge loss for people that buy this new. In addition the Taycan had a lot of problems the first few years. As a first year model I would definitely pass.
    It’s a shame to also hear that the Cayman is headed electric also. I love Porsche but this is the wrong direction for the consumers that love what the brand is about.
    For the Price of the new Macan I can put gas in my car for 50 years and have change left to spare 😂
    In the moment we are forced to buy an EV, I would only consider a Toyota or Lexus preferably plug in. They know their stuff and depreciation is not as bad. I would have to skip on luxury brands like Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. Not worth the hit.
    What bothers me is we are not ready on the grid for electric.. people want to save the environment with low emissions, but not realizing the way they make EVs is not any better.
    Anyway I know your thoughts from coffee and cars 🤗. I Enjoy watching you guys every week❤

    • @timcreelman3540
      @timcreelman3540 6 месяцев назад +5

      I agree with all your points. I own a Macan S and love the performance and sound. The Porsche brand is all about performance, something (audibly) missing from all EVs. We are still in the early-adopter phase of EV ownership; wait 5 years to benefit from technology and grid improvements. The insane, silent speed is off-putting to me. In 3 seconds you are illegal. At least with an ICE vehicle, you have fun getting there.

    • @billurban1581
      @billurban1581 6 месяцев назад

      Plug in rationale: the considerable negative consequences of an EV (mining, rare elements processing, power grid, and potential global turmoil) are ~85% less with a plug in hybrid. And PHEVs don’t need a $28B+ charging station boondoggle.

    • @vancity2349
      @vancity2349 6 месяцев назад +2

      You are completely wrong about the Grid

    • @ShadowHolder748
      @ShadowHolder748 5 месяцев назад +3

      On the point about "the way they make EVs is not any better", it is true that the production of the batteries that go into EVs is actually WORSE in terms of CO2 produced than making combustion cars. HOWEVER, over the lifespan of the vehicle, the EV will become more enviromentally friendly than that same combustion car as it is no longer responsible for nearly as many emissions as that fossil fuel powered vehicle. This becomes even more true as the grid starts using more and more renewable sources to provide energy, in the future there may be ZERO CO2 produced by charging an EV. In addition, there is a lot of room to improve the sustainability of manufacturing EVs as battery technology improves, this is in contrast to combustion vehicles, which are likely about as good as they will ever be in terms of emissions; I believe it is a dead-end technology which has had it's potential fully explored.
      I can't really argue with you that EVs lose something in excitement in terms of engine noise, transmission etc over combustion sports cars but I do think there are things that manufacturers can and will do to make exciting EV models, we have already seen a few examples of that. And honestly, helping to slow climate change which is already wreaking havok on peoples lives and will continue to get worse is infinitely more important than those trivial things.

It certainly isn’t different enough for me to forgo their brilliant gasoline options. And as far as ‘sub 4’ acceleration numbers… my 3.2L Carrera is barely over 230 hp., but with a kerb weight of barely 2,500 lbs. it is more than enough for me. I have driven 996/7 Turbos. They are insanely erotic to experience. But I cannot fathom owning one to drive daily or they are worth the extra (financial) premium. Holy smokes the price! There’s no reason an EV should be more expensive than an ICE car. They are way simpler machines with on the order of 10,000 fewer parts. This is simply not worth it until they get the volume up enough to get the price lower than ICE cars (as they should be based on technical matters). Seriously, you can buy a lot of fuel for $30k to $40k you save buying the ICE or competitors ICE vehicles.

    I get it’s a Porsche and it’s electric, but that base price in Canada seems a bit steep… The Audi Q8 E Tron, which is Audis flagship electric SUV, has a lower MSRP. That makes zero sense as the Macan is supposed to be an entry level Porsche, whether or not that’s the gas or the electric. However, the base price in the US is very reasonable. Wonder why Porsche have priced the Macan the way they did in Canada…

    Cool. Mileage is a key factor, though. Interesting that they're withholding those numbers. Hope those numbers are comparable to the competition.

    Love that they made this car. I have wanted an alternative to my MY for some time. Inside moves away for Tesla one screen for everything with a nice simple haptic climate control cluster and vol control set up. However I don't really see the value of the extra passenger screen (everything you want is right next to it and watching videos while driving is distracted even if the driver cannot see it so I would not opt for that). Rear axle steering looks interesting and I am glad they included air suspension and pano roof standard. Extra rear passenger room is a good improvement over the ICE Macan. Price is too high though and i hope they will pass savings on to buyers when the update to LFP or other improved battery tech and updating the NACS port sooner than later would be good (or at least give buyers an adapter so they can charge at a Tesla Supercharger if they need). This car needs to achieve price parity with the ICE Macan to be a high volume hit as they hope. Finally, range looks to be about 300 miles (485 km) at 90% (see Kyles review of the prototype. He got 320 miles out of 100% test). If true this will be as good or better than the Model Y which is fine for me (but I do charge at home most of the time).

    This is HUGE mistake on Porsches' part, it's their best selling vehicle by far and EV's have reached a saturation point. They will NEVER reach the same 37% sales figures, they should have kept the ICE and EV's side by side production. They're about to cut their throats even more with the Boxster/Cayman EV's insane, maybe Hybrid's, but complete EV's NO EV's are only 7.6% of all car sales. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!!!
