Coming from a Aussie. When it comes to rugby union and humility as a person there's Jonah Lomu and then there's everybody else. You'd be real hard pressed to find a player or fan from any country that didn't have the highest regard for Jonah as man and a player they broke the mold after him RIP.
Jonah was one humble dude. I saw him around in South Auckland, at gas stations and the movies. He gave me the time of day to talk to me. He did not hide from his money, he was much beloved and a National Treasure. Because of him, Rugby went profession as in the early 90's as he had gained interest by many different codes internationally. NZ Rugby could of lost him however he dreamed of being a member of The Most Feared and Respected National Rugby team 'The ABs' or throughout The World known as The All Blacks.
He was rugby's 1st superstar! He was built like a tank, fast for a man his size & played his heart out every game. Had the honour of watching him play for the All Blacks (New Zealand) & what a pleasure it was to see him in action! he was mobbed everytime the game finished. To top him off,he was the nicest & most humblest guy you'll ever meet. Always took photos with the fans,& would conversate with you if you ever came across him. If this guy was 💯% and didn’t have any kidney disease he would of been something else…he had it the whole time he was playing rugby…he was also Tongan🐐🇹🇴
Jonah was offered unlimited money to change to NFL. He turned it down. Tackling him was like trying to stop an express train. He died from a heart attack associated with an ongoing kidney problem. He was 40.
He is still every Tongans hero, to give his all every game and not let anyone know of his kidney disease was heart breaking, how could this beautiful boy be sick. Still naming the kids Jonah to this day in hope they have even a little bit of his strength and humility ❤
Jonah Lomu was diagnosed with a rare and serious kidney condition in 1995. It forced him to quit the game and he had a kidney transplant in 2004, but the organ stopped functioning in 2011. And... he was, is and forever will be the greatest wing that ever played the game. RIP Lomumotive
Yes, Jonah was indeed the GOAT. It isn't even close. And the scary part was, the kidney disease that eventually took his life meant he was only playing to about 60 % of his abilities.
He’s regarded by many as the greatest 11 of all time. 11 is the left wing and 14 is the right wing. No all time great team is complete without him. He’s probably the most physically dominant rugby player there’s ever been. The highlights of him bumping people off is longer than most people’s career highlights. Freak
270+ pounds (260 was his rookie weight) and he was rapid, like super rapid, always the fastest on the field. He would be a 4.40 dash runner. He had kidney problems throughout his playing career, he was often out for a season due to dialysis. Apparently his recovery time from exercise was basically laying in bed for days after a game. He passed on due to a heart attack as a direct result of the stress his kidney problems put on his body. He was the GOAT, no doubt.
DreadedLife good one, even today there are no players this big and fast, plenty of 270+ boys than can run but he was just so quick. He was Tongan btw , not Samoan. King Haku and him are the two tongan icons.
Jonah was a huge rugby star in the 90's. He was a natural born athlete. Won almost everything to do with athletics at his school. You must read his book (can't remember the title), sorry. I think he was part of the reason rugby became professional. There was talk of him playing in the NFL, but nothing came of it. What all of his rugby fans didn't know was that he had a kidney disease. Anyway read his book.
No one has ever come close to jonah to this day he was that rare. Try sebastian chabel also big guy like jonah he looks like a cave man and has big hits! Sure you will like his video!
To be fair there are never any guarantees in the NFL Lomu has all the physical attributes but knowledge of the game and playbooks is big part of why rugby players struggle to make the grade. It's a technical sport and a very competitive sport. I do think the you lomu that ran 11.02 100mtrs would have been a nightmare for defence. not because of the speed but at 6ft5 and 270+ he was a real rampaging beast.
He's definitely one of the best certainly the biggest super star during his day first real global superstar aswell. I remember meeting him when I was a kid got photo and autograph
believe it or not...he was sick his whole career..imagine how much better he would have been if he was 100% fit and healthy...he hid his sickness well for years before anyone really knew the truth...has to be MY personal favourite rugby player of all time...RIP lomu
Jonah loved cars and drag racing , he’d be at the drags with his 4 cars with a crowd of fans following him around , I’m 5ft10 and he was a freakin monster , he also got into bodybuilding after his rugby career ended RIP
Some ask "Was he the greatest Rugby player of all time ?" Well,if he wasn't there isn't any film of anyone like him.If the high regard & fear levels if his opponents are a guage then, yes,Jonah Lomu was regarded by most as the best they'd ever seen.To think he had severe kidney disease for most of his career & that it eventually killed him is just amasing. To think he could have been a better player if he had been fully fit is simply frightening to contemplate. His reputation as a player was surpassed as a wonderful human being, father & husband. His work for so many others with kidney disease was legendary. When Jonah died aged 40 the sporting world plunged into genuine grief. Many people even questioned their faith seeing such a lovely & valued man being taken so young & so callously. RIP Jonah, you are still much loved & so sadly missed.
He had a hard raising- his uncle decapitated by gangsters and he was stabbed twice as a teen. His family are from Tonga and he was raised in NZ. He was the best rugby player ever. He died from kidney disease, a rugby fan became a living doner to save the great man but it was not enough. He made our heros look like a boys team and we loved him for it.
Yeeeeahh he's awesome aye bro. He's missed sorely here in NZ and Tonga. His sense of balance and awareness around him made him an immovable object on the footy field. He's awesome to watch when he played for my Hurricanes and Lions here in wellington. Just a beast bro. And look how many men it took to finally bring him down... 6-7 lol! May as well call out to the fans to help 😭🤣 and that's factual bro. He was a phenomenal player and We're still thinking of you brother. Oh yes, before I go bro, yes he is the GOAT... Not was... But still is and forever will be. Such was stature in world rugby Born: 12th May, 1975, Pukekohe Auckland. Slept eternal: 18th November, 2015, Auckland From Wellington. Home of the Hurricanes. And a den full of Lions.
his first sport was track and field! he converted to rugby later in his teens, which is why he is so rapid and quick. he is also the reason rugby is professional today before him they played rugby for the love. he brought so many eyes to the game they started getting payed.
All blacks = the most winning sports team in history....any sport....ever. Lomu was 6ft 5", 120kg and ran the 100m in 10.8 seconds. Plus he was agile and could hit like a train. A total gentleman off the field as well. I got to see him play for Auckland vs Queensland in a pre-season game at Ballymore in the late 90's. Watching them warm up, Jonah looked enormous on the wing, training with the backs. Then he went over and stood beside the forwards and he was taller than almost all of them too.... That night he was up against Ben Tune - a very good, 100kg test winger for Australia. Tune was just a speed bump all night long. Jonah terrorised him....not for the first or last time. People say he was the first rugby global superstar...but has there ever really been another? Maybe Dan Carter or Richie McCaw rank higher in history. But before Jonah, wingers were always small, zippy players...he changed the game. Coming up against someone that big, that agile, that fast, you have to change or you are going to lose by 50. NFL teams were lining up for this guy early in his career, but every NZ kid wants to be an All Black...probably why they have been so good for so long.
Jonah changed the modern game. never before him did we see big strong chaps running at pace on the wing and in the backline. Nowadays it's more common to see big strong fast backs. But Jonah set the bar. And no-one has had quite the same impact on the game since him. He brought true speed, amazing strength and really great skills. Players feared going up against him- but everyone respects the man he was on and off the field. Died to soon. He battled kidney problems for a while - and died suddenly from a heart attack, widely believed to be related to his kidney disorder
He is The “GREATEST OF ALL TIME” The words of W, Shakespere “We will not see his likes again” South Aucklands Greatest - Mayhe rest amongst the stars forever. Ofa atu JONAH
I remember seeing him working at Mc Donald's for a promotional burger they brought out when I was a teenager he was the biggest dude I'd ever seen he was huge in person...Goat of the wing position for sure. I heard he even had an offer from the Dallas Cowboys back in the 90s.
During this playing time was ill with kidney disease and eventually had a kidney transplant but contine to play. In the end he did not survive image what he would be like at 100%
Please watch his funeral it on RUclips it really beautiful ceremony the amount of respect and honour the new Zealanders have for him in fact the whole rugby is amazing even I ended a year the man is a 🐐 a legend and he will never be forgotten rip jonha
100%greatest rugby player of all time NZ has ever had! Played after a kidney transplant didn't deter him. I remember my Dad cheering on from his chair when games where on, arms IN ThE AIR!!!! Such a loss, another awesome Kiwi/Tongan.
He was also offered a contract to play in the Nrl after his debut loss vs France and was dropped got offered 3mil from the Canterbury Bulldogs which would of made him the highest paid league player in that era he played league as a young lad growing up living in Mangere and became the biggest rugby icon ever RIP
the guy was a legend! not the most skillful player, but his game was pure speed and size. The guy was a monster, every time he got the ball the crowd went nuts. On a side note, he was a true gentleman. Jonah, you are missed!!!
I suggest you learn as much as you can about Lomu, because the amazement will only increase. Seriously, you've just scratched the surface here. Rugby fans the World over are united in 2 things. 1. He made ALL of our teams look like amateurs. 2. We love him. Not just the GOAT, but someone who's image you can hold up to your kids, and in every single aspect you can say to your kids, "This is what real heroes look like, and behave like. Aim to be like him. " If you really want to know how we feel about him, watch the (deeply moving) video of his funeral, on a rugby pitch. That day, we were all alongside the rugby playing First Nations of the South Pacific, hand on heart, tears in our eyes. And remember. Those players you just saw him destroy ? They were world class players themselves.
Yeah, he’s the biggest superstar in rugby history. (He was Rugby’s Michael Jordan) people knew him around the world. A global icon. He is from New Zealand. He’s almost certainly the most dominant player in history but probably not the greatest as his position (winger) is not the most important position. Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Gareth Edwards are probably the 3 with the best claims to being the GOAT
Winger may not be the most important position but when he was on the field. Winger was the most important position for the defense and the attacking team. The ice man Jones was a far better flanker than mccaw. He'd fall under one of the greatest AB captains for sure. Many would put Jonah as the GOAT
Anyone who puts Dan Carter and Richie McCaw ahead of Jonah lomu is delusional. Richie Mccaw himself will tell you, Jonah is better than him. Richie and Dan are talented and work horses for the all blacks, but they are not once in a life time like people of Michael Jordan or Jonah Lomus caliber.
6.5 and 265 pounds . 10.8 100 m. Armed with a great side step { Duke} and fend {stiff arm}. People held their breath when he got the ball but only briefly because they were usually cheering a second later as he busted bodies. You can see why the Dallas cowboys were keen on him. So glad he stayed with AB's but him playing in the NFL would have been enthralling. Firmly believe he would have been a star in that league. He was a very proud all black player who always represented the NZ All blacks and his Tongan heritage with mana. I so wish we saw him play at 100 % considering he was only playing only at 70 -80% due to his illness. RIP Big fella.
...scary part is he was never 💯, he was dealing with kidney failure most of his career in the 1990's, but completely changed the way the game was played... #jonahlomu #goat
I used to watch him moving around the field, just swatting off the opposition like flies - it was like watching Optimus Prime fighting Hobbits. Only Sébastien Chabal comes near.
This guy rugby League of Legends. I see my eyes...265lbs or 260lbs...so speed....One person in a million can find so much talented people like boxing - Muhammad Ali, soccer - messi, basketball - michael jordan, ufc - khabib nurmagomedov.....
i've posted this comment on others ppls reaction vids , because it applies :) ... "in general, people really don't get it ... he was more or less 1sec slower than Bolt for the 100m , with an extra 60-80 pds .... and he was NEVER trained to be a sprinter :p " ---- and he had a degenerative kidney disease that took him from us at the age of 40, so he was never really 100% capacity ...... PS ... to this day i wonder, when u are his opponent trying to tackle him, where in your mind that "goes well" ??? u know what i mean .... how do u think that u jumping on those tree trunks he calls legs , at that speed and general size, is gonna end well for u, what is the scenario ?? :p
He is seen as the goat. He shouldn't be a winger at his size but due to his pace and power was put in that position. You need to be running a sub 11 to be a winger. Props and backrow make up the "defense" team but there's no difference between the "defense" and " offense" play. There's no stop every second like NFL.
I played the same position as lomu but was never close to his speed I was 6'2 315lbs with an 11.7 second 100 meters sprint time, back in my 20's when I played amateur rugby
Thoughts on what sort of impact he might have made if he had gone to American football as a wide receiver???? Would he have been a GOAT in the 2 highest impact sports?
Physically the most gifted player ever. So gifted they had to turn the sport professional to give players enough time to invest in training to become what lomu was naturally. Though there are better players in the sport before lomu noone could do what he did, players have gotten better physically now and could be compared to him.
yeh but imagine if jonah played nowadays with all the training and sports science. Feel like people say. he would be similar people like Savea way too easily, like he was as fast as habana....
Watch the memorial footage at Eden Park, of his people, teammates and school kids honouring the man at his funeral. It is the most beautiful thing. ruclips.net/video/hhvWqUzWF5E/видео.html
Bit of perspective. Lomu was a fantastic player, but he was one dimensional and his defence was not great. I was at his first test match in Aukland against the French and watched the french Winger who was much smaller run him around and constantly turn him around. Wingers that were not as big but faster or more athletic were good at shutting him down. Players like Frances Émile Ntamack, Australia's Ben Tune and South Africas Pieter Rossouw.
1.96 meters? dunno do you have the internet? Its on computers n phones n stuff, I heard you can check things on it.. like whats 1.96 meters for fucking example.
I'm English and every time he played against us he killed us and I loved watching him. What a player, sadly missed.

He is the goat
he was one of the greats theres plenty of them
Jonah was awesome! Would love to see what you think about the Smallest player next. Faf De Klerk... The Giant Slayer!
iight bet
and its difficult to agree on a goat because there's a huge variety of positions
GOAT!
...scary part is he was never 💯, he was dealing with kidney failure most of his career in the 1990's, but completely changed the way the game was played... #jonahlomu #goat
I used to watch him moving around the field, just swatting off the opposition like flies - it was like watching Optimus Prime fighting Hobbits. Only Sébastien Chabal comes near.
i saw him live at the stadium and he looked bigger live bro
This guy rugby League of Legends. I see my eyes...265lbs or 260lbs...so speed....One person in a million can find so much talented people like boxing - Muhammad Ali, soccer - messi, basketball - michael jordan, ufc - khabib nurmagomedov.....
Yea he's amazing
He could have played any position and still been a goat!
One of a kind , RIP
Just look at how fast the background is moving past the screen.
Jonah RIP.
good video👍👍👍👍👍
Jonah Lomu had a transplant in 2004, but it failed seven years later, and he of a sudden heart attack last November at the age of 40.
iight thanks
i've posted this comment on others ppls reaction vids , because it applies :) ...
He's really one of one
@@DreadedLife the next one, has to be genetically engineered ^^
He is the g.o.a.t
He is seen as the goat. He shouldn't be a winger at his size but due to his pace and power was put in that position. You need to be running a sub 11 to be a winger. Props and backrow make up the "defense" team but there's no difference between the "defense" and " offense" play. There's no stop every second like NFL.
Did you see when he played England in 1995 he was a beast and destroyed Japan
I played the same position as lomu but was never close to his speed I was 6'2 315lbs with an 11.7 second 100 meters sprint time, back in my 20's when I played amateur rugby
if you played against Jonah you knew you would get pain, it was just a matter if the pain camw when you tried to tackle him or when he tackled you
Thoughts on what sort of impact he might have made if he had gone to American football as a wide receiver???? Would he have been a GOAT in the 2 highest impact sports?
Physically the most gifted player ever. So gifted they had to turn the sport professional to give players enough time to invest in training to become what lomu was naturally.
Though there are better players in the sport before lomu noone could do what he did, players have gotten better physically now and could be compared to him.
yeh but imagine if jonah played nowadays with all the training and sports science. Feel like people say. he would be similar people like Savea way too easily, like he was as fast as habana....
He had kidney problems and dialysis all his life, with only 70% capacity. Imagine him at 100%
He's Tongan I believe
He was that good the Dallas Cowboys off red him a contract but he didn't take up the offer because he loved playing for the all blacks.
Sir jonah lotus sits in valhala with the other gods of rugby 🏉
Sorry for the spelling mistake sir lomu
6’5 260
Easily the 🐐
Lo-moo!
Please react to marika koroibete the art of speed, you won't be dissapointed
The Fijian he launched IS NOT SMALL...
Watch the memorial footage at Eden Park, of his people, teammates and school kids honouring the man at his funeral. It is the most beautiful thing. ruclips.net/video/hhvWqUzWF5E/видео.html
he is the best player of all time but he didn't win the world cup
Bit of perspective. Lomu was a fantastic player, but he was one dimensional and his defence was not great. I was at his first test match in Aukland against the French and watched the french Winger who was much smaller run him around and constantly turn him around. Wingers that were not as big but faster or more athletic were good at shutting him down. Players like Frances Émile Ntamack, Australia's Ben Tune and South Africas Pieter Rossouw.
he never scored against the boks though . we stopped him everytime
Had to use food poisoning to do it though.
Kidney disease & to think never saw him at 100%!
1.96 meters? dunno do you have the internet? Its on computers n phones n stuff, I heard you can check things on it.. like whats 1.96 meters for fucking example.
