I use to race the complete series of tracks almost every other day . Loved this game got it on my birthday .it was a hard one to master well for a kid I guess.
There's a genius to how that city backdrop rotates during turns...there's two levels to it, the lower level obviously made to look closer than the top layer, and yet every time the road straightens and the backdrop stabilizes, the top and bottom look perfectly integrated and natural.
@@ifrit35 That and how the bottom border shifts up and down to convey the idea of uphill/downhill--I'm not someone who's played every game ever, but I don't think I've ever seen that on an NES game.
@@LinkRocks "Rad" isn't really a word that people use that often nowadays - that word was a lot more popular during the 80s, and maybe during the 90s. I guess that this is what whatever9480 means.
This game is pretty cool, I don't have much recollection playing this one (likely for the reasons you mentioned with the timing with Square's other release) but I played the heck out of the first one. Rad!
I was happy to see the turbo boost was used at the start of the race! I knew of this trick due to my subscription to Nintendo Power haha I miss games like this.
My thoughts on Rad Racer II..... Pros: -Great new courses (Twilight Calif., Monument Valley, Bay Bridge, etc.) -Can only change radio before each race, so no accidental song changes (down on D-pad) when driving hard like in the first game Cons: -Turbo engine lacks the sound and fury of the first game -Ferrari's paint job not as red as in first game -Tire screeching sounded better in first game -If music is playing, can't hear engine sounds (!?) -The 2 songs are fine but don't rock like tracks 1 and 3 in the first game -Steering lacks the tight precision of the first game -No changing day/night/weather like in first game -Instant "Power Start" from standstill to 255 MPH takes too long to charge and is physically absurd -Speedometer limit should be 255 KPH (158 MPH) like in first game, more realistic than 255 MPH, plus it's a Ferrari, so metric is appropriate. -Direction indicator in dashboard not as fun or realistic as watching for road signs like first game -3 "Laps" is misleading; not closed-circuit courses -There should be an arcade-style demo that autoplays (even if it always drives straight like RR1) -No beautiful side view of the Ferrari 328 before the first race like in RR1 Did I forget anything? Overall a fun game (and Twilight Calif. is stunning), but I like RR1 better. I wish they kept a lot of the sounds/controls/game mechanics of RR1 and just had new tracks and cars. A choice of 2 sports cars that handle and accelerate differently would have been great. Rad Racer 3?
Yea. Didnt play this one to much. But loved the first. Nice tunes… seems like they removed the car sound which i miss. And made the music deeper sounding. Plays smooth.

Somehow I likely haven’t heard this music in 30 years but I remember it perfectly our brains are wild right?
Rad Racer 2 is a great sequel to the classic first game. Why don't more people talk about this one?
Because it's not as well known, unfortunately.
I didn't know not that many people talk about it
Two simple words: "Out Run".
@@BenJabituya Definitely
@@BenJabituya PRO TIP: Rad Racer is two simple words too.
Seeing this vintage Ferrari doing 255mph is hilariously terrifying.
Getting some Sega Out-Run vibes from this game. It looks really good. Didn't know Rad Racer had a sequel.
Fun game growing up.
PURE aesthetic.......Night time scenery is beautiful!
Some of the best night city skylines in a game, ever!
this game is awesome and thank you for playing it and uploading this video I enjoyed watching it

Really all the levels have something like this going on.
Are you talking about the parallax scrolling going on?
@@ifrit35 Yes. I know that's a common thing, but I was impressed with how well disguised/aligned it is.

What's stopping you from calling things "rad" today?

Awesome sequel to an already great game. Fond memories as a kid watching the neighbor play this. Was mesmerized by the background levels

Maan i loved these games as a kid! I had the "3d glasses" n all!
Also this game is probably why the only Ferrari i like is the 355
I remember that! I think Rad Racer 1 and 3D Worldrunner both had those glasses.

The digital sensibility of the 80's.
I don't know why the US doesn't have more three lane one-way roads where you can go 255 mph. (I had and still have this cart)
Man as a kid, that 2nd leg of level 7 always got me. You really need to have an awesome 1st leg to make it. Even here he barely had 3 seconds to spare
I didn't have many NES games, but this was my favorite, and the only game I've ever beat. Lol.
I had this game as a kid and loved the vaporwave aesthetic on level 7 👌
It's so smooth on NES.
255mph at night with no moonlight, streetlights, or headlights... that's skill

Great game, great soundtrack.
I wish there would be more snes chiptunes of it. I know Out Run's OST is amazing, but Rad Racer needs some love...
RAD RACER TWO IS VERY GOOD AND AWESOME TOO MY FRIEND AND MY BIRTHDAY IS APRIL 29
Tão lindo. Não conhecia.
This beats outrun on the master system and genesis lol
Totally rad!
awesome game.
I never could get past stage 6. Ended up trading this game with a friend.
Hey great video. How do you do the nitro beggining at the start of the race?
I never knew there was a part 2😂
I had no idea there was a rad racer II - side note the Twin Towers in the New York Race :(
Twilight California is a real bitch to complete. Square's last NES game; came out only in the US right after the Japan-only "Final Fantasy III".
Yes so true! You gotta make really good time in the first section or else you won't make the 2nd checkpoint. That level always got me
Well played
so this one doesn't have a sound for the engine while driving, huh? Well, that could be good and bad I guess.
Thank God this game exists to remember us a time where people were happy :)
Liked this game I was just so trash at it lol
I don't think I want 2 live in a world where people choose "coast to coast" over "gum ball crash". I say good day, sir.
Both are great songs, but anything is better than, "Sing Yourself" haha
Those red Camaros were the WORST!!! >:(
All these years and I had no idea you could fast start like that. How do you do it?
You hold down and B until the bar fills up, and then you hit A at the same moment as you let go of down and b to take off.
Like this game 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I live in Gettysburg!
Sadly this Game have an unused track, with Country-style song.
I always wondered why the first game had 3, but II had 2.
Rad Racer 1 is better I think it's harder but rewarding 🎉
I love rad racer ii it's so bad
me to
me three 🙂
I wonder how Mora Grissom felt about it.
SO many love to comment ol' Lucas from The Wizard on the Rad Racer Games!!!

Lol peel out straight to 255 mph. I think id pass out =o
great simulator
Guess Square felt four laps were a little too much for the second game.
Rad Racer One is definitely harder
That last stage looks. Bit cheap.
Sound effects not as good as the original
255mph??? Uh... yeah... top speed of a car back in the 80s was I believe 201mph.
