Rad is a slang term, short for radical. This movie shows what radical sports is when applied to car driving on NES.
Curiously, the game Rad Racer was made by Square, which is probably best known for its Final Fantasy game series. Quite a different game, this here...

Bouncing off other cars is such a crazy technique to stay at max speed through corners its insane to watch this
I remember playing this as a kid with my friends. There really was not a bigger thrill than to be racing against the clock, getting smashed up, time running out... then you blast by the flags and get more time. Lots of tense moments

i played this game so much as a kid. by far my favorite driving/racing game of all time
This seems like it would've been an incredibly fun tas to put together. The final product looks absolutely insane.
This game reminds me so much of Out Run on the SEGA Master System! That one also involved driving a red Ferrari.
That's sort of what this is.

Roads were so much flatter, straighter and more unidirectional in the 1980s. Take me back to that simpler time.
This game was Square's best selling NES game and outsold Final Fantasy.

my favorite turning technique for racing games; BUMPING OUT OF OTHER CARS
Can you actually beat this game while staying on the road. I remember playing it as a kid, but never got past the second level.
My best playthrough as a kid was making it to level 5. Once we learned about the level skip, I beat 6 and 7, but never managed to finish 5 or 8.
On 8 you have only 13 spare seconds per checkpoint if you're going top speed, which is basically 1 free crash per segment. I should replay this sometime.
When I used "PAUSE",it changes the moviment of the next cars that are coming? Do you know how it works?
At first, all I could think of was TASbot disguised as a Power Glove. That changed. Now it's TASbot WEARING a Power Glove.
I'm gonna drive like this tomorrow, bouncing off cars in long turns. Nothing's gonna happen that doesn't happen in the game, right?

Kinda reminds me of Lamborghini the American Challenge, especially the car look from the side as well as illegal race.
Tip for real life driving: if you are having trouble getting around a turn, just sideswipe the car next to you continuously. That should help. 😂

I beat Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Punch-Out, Ninja Turtles, Rush 'N Attack, Metal Gear... but never this... this was too freakin hard!
I remember playing this a lot at a friend's house in 4th grade (shortly after the game's release) and when I finished the game in front of everyone after school one afternoon, it was like the Cubs had won the damn World Series...
But rad racer is easier that these ones

There's a piano piece you can play in Final Fantasy III that seems like it might have the same chord progression as the ending, but they're not really the same tune.

Donnie : eimaXe Sorry for being 2 years tardy. 😣😣 My guess is that they were used to manipulate when and/or where the other cars appear in order to maintain speed through the harder and/or longer turns.
