I agree as well, but there is no chance in the world she is doing that. She wants to get her hands on everything he owned. She was staying married to collect benefits and now thinks that she should inherit his estate. I would really want to know what the kids thoughts are in all of this.

I know only one person that ever declined an inheritance, although she had every right to it. She is a person of integrity.
Apart from that I know a dozens of inheritance horror stories about greedy insatiable family members.

There's nothing that brings me more joy than when Dave cuts audio for the caller.. it doesn't matter who the caller is and what their scenario is... when Dave pushes the button it's such an appropriate time for them to shut up and it's just hilarious to watch the emotion that he puts into a simple button push while trying to also maintain a bit of discretion about the button and what it does

Imagine an ex so persistent that 20 years after the relationship has finished she still isn't divorced from you, wants your house after you've died and widow's payments. Nothing can stop this one it seems.

It’s all about the money. Divorce equals less money and perhaps insurance. Know a couple others who use the system like this legally.

I knew of another "odd" couple such as this. They were devout Catholics and it's a sin to get divorced. They also lived separately in different states for decades. You are chomping on her for being "a vulture" without knowing the details! He clearly didn't want to divorce either-or he would have. And he allowed a portion of his pension to go to her as his wife. She is legally entitled to his assets.
The husband didn't file a divorce either so maybe he wanted to leave everything to her the way it worked out. When my parents divorced, my dad left my mother's name on the house deed.
The husband didn’t file the divorce so he wasn’t taken to the cleaners before he was dead. Now he is being taken there afterwards…
Or maybe she wouldn’t sign the divorce decree so didn’t bother pushing it farther. It’s also possible that she didn’t push for child support if he didn’t file for divorce. There are a hundred reasons people wouldn’t file, very few are good reasons. I think the kids should get the house, not her
This is the reason you must get a divorce if you are not in a holy matrimony.
Half the people in the world are not religious...don't need to get divorced just because someone has a different view than your self...just putting it out there.. a loveing relationship no matter what you belive...is the important thing.

@@eetoved1758 She is collecting spousal benefits from his military pension and SS. If she got divorced then she could lose those or perhaps see a reduction. However, I think 20 years separated, living in different states, and filing separate returns might be viewed as fraud, but I am not sure of that.

Well she is paying the taxes, so yeah get a lawyer, sell, pay lawyer, pay off debts and get her money back that she paid in taxes and split the rest between the kids. People shouldn't judge her-again we don't know the whole story here! Prayers for her as an abused woman and vet!

You're missing the part where he never said you should stay legally married to someone that you've been separated from for decades. That's what he meant when he said "paint or get off the ladder."
Exactly. Dave is a big advocate of the law being on your side when legally married. Now in her case he wants to dismiss the law and ask about morally. Right and left at same time.
What you are missing: How does she prove what didn't happen? There is no certificate that denotes no divorce, the burden of proof is the other way.

Lady, just hire a local PA lawyer and let them handle the probate. Dave seems awfully naive here. There are lots of couples out there that live separate lives but never bother getting a divorce.
Yes and often it's because of specific financial gain in staying technically married. I know a couple who were sharing her health insurance, living separately, for a decade or so. It gave her children an extra measure of stability that their dad was taken care of in that way, however unstable the rest of his life may have been. Other examples I can't think of at the moment. Everyone makes choices and marriage means different things to different people. 😂 There is no one-size-fits-all utopia!
