According to most reviews of this model, Toyota has configured this model for fuel economy and not for torque as Honda has done for its hybrids of late. I believe this info was given during the product briefing. So your observation is consistent with that piece of widely known info about this product.
As for size, you are right there as well. I test drove both but again, Toyota has positioned this as a B segment product whereas the Civic is positioned as a C segment product. I found it puzzling but then this is all about product positioning and they pick the right fight, I supposed. And they are training their gun at B segment HRV.
You also mentioned that it is an "SUV". Not entirely wrong based on public use of the term. But given that there is a difference between a real SUV and a crossover, Toyota has clearly named this a "crossover" in the Corolla platform to mitigate any unrealistic expectations. So I wouldn't call it an SUV. I expect more out of an SUV. Doesn't feel like one at all except for its height, ground clearance and rear storage configuration.
Finally, on the comment that in the future, we don't even need to mention the word "hybrid". I agree. But I think for consumers, this nomenclature holds its value to manage expectations as the propulsion, driving behaviour, care, cost, resale value etc are sufficiently significant to distinguish it from an ICE vehicle. Only when governments mandate that all ICE must have complementary motor propulsion, dropping it makes sense.
On that note, Honda's current hybrid technology may not fit into your narrative because it is biased more towards the EV concept. In fact, some car experts correctly pointed out that it is more like a "self-charging EV with an undersized battery and built-in direct-drive by the gasoline engine". Nicely put.
Again, that's for the review and always enjoy your candid comments. Was expecting your review much earlier though!

Bro Wong. Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid version in US is way better, 2.0 NA FWD, but with the mild hybrid eletric motor at RWD, making it a semi AWD. 180hp total system output. 0-100 in 9s from what I've heard, which is much more acceptable than our Asian version 😞

hi bobby you are right, i owned this car, the center storage compartment is really very limited.
I just bought it last month because i'm a very busy person, i dont have time to spend on repair or troubleshooting my car.
My precious honda civic give me so much problem, really fed up on troubleshooting and repairing the honda civic, it sucks.
my first car in the watch list is actually X70 which seem like value for money, but after i join the x70 group i found out that the car is very problematic and have big problem on the engine and grearbox, luckily i didnt buy it.

Its a B sgement suv that competes with HRV and X50 and the likes so how more spacious do u need when RAV4 is almost close D segment. How long will u ogle at your car interior though, within a week i bet u will not even notice how nice ir bad your car interior is. Your vechicle is a tool for u to get from A to B and back if u want a more luxurious interior get a Bently or sort but if u want something lasting and last longer than even the owner itself get the cross

In term of reducing CO2, I think it help a little bit, just a little bit.
But In term of value for money, personally, no point to go for Hybrid.
    1) You spent extra RM 7k for the battery and the car does not give you more power/torque, its actually lesser.
    2) if RON 95 remained at RM 2/L , after 8years/160kkm, the fuel cost you saved is about RM 7k only comparing 1.8V, so it's a break even (Haven't consider if the RM 7k in the bank, I can get interest.)
    3) And high possibility 8yrs later, its time to spent another RM 7k to replace the battery.
    4) If you always driving in Highway for long distance, I think the battery doesn't help a lot, instead, you are getting a much lower power engine, Or it will keep burning fuel to charge the battery?? And along the way, will the battery getting weaker and weaker and effect the performance further?

      @cll9650 Год назад

Depends on how far you drive a day. I drive a lot a day and compared to my old ICE car, I'll save MYR14K in 8 years while battery cost is at 8K (assuming no fuel inflation). Net, I'll save 6K upon expiry of warranty.

Also, Global HRV that will be launching in Malaysia, but not HRV US, gets only LaneWatch camera, which is not really advanced as blind spot monitor. Global HRV also lack of rear cross traffic alert and 360 camera including lack of full digital meter and temperature meter while Corolla Cross and HRV 2023 gets.
