  • Marcus Miller is one of the most inovative & influential bassists on the planet.
    This new slap bass lesson teaches a slap bass lick over an E Minor chord. It has a Dorian vibe to it with a hint of Marcus Miller in the feel.

    Great truss rod tips, required action, & how you set up your bass to facilitate your playing is often completely missed out. Excellent video, (at 17:00).

    Lovely fluid little riff Scott.
    Cracking sound and nice bass.
    Interested how you had it dialled in on the pickups.

      Thanks, Stephen. As I recall it was both pickups on (bridge set to single coil) with a slightly boost on both the treble and bass controls on the bass itself. Mid flat

    What are some starting points for getting a basic slap tone going? Running a Jazz Bass into an interface on GarageBand. Any suggestions appreciated!

    • @ScottWhitley
      @ScottWhitley  2 года назад

      My approach:
      • New, bright roundwound strings
      • Low (ish at least) action
      • Slight low and high eq bumps
      • DI (no amp generally)
      • Compression can help breath life into slap bass tones
      Hope that helps,
      Scott.

      It's an Ibanez ATK. I had it for a few months earlier this year. Lovely bass.
      You're correct btw - it's a long scale bass. :)
