I used to listen to this when I was a kid, on my Dad's record player with big comforting over-the-ear headphones. I would sit in his chair with my eyes closed and get those chills you're talking about immediately when the thunder and synth start. Awesome experience. And it's good you mention the dignity and optimism...so good man.
pavel...yes I know what it means.... respect to mother russias sacrifice... in ww2. My dad was french underground and they helped 2 russians escape a POW camp...both joined his unit 1 died...my dad is still alive at age 101.
Pavel, where were you 25 years ago, when I needed you so much? Well, better late than never! Thanks for all these excellent lessons, and please keep going.
Thanks for such an amazing support. I’m a slow learner, too (how Mark sings on the new album) and I could’ve done all the lessons many years ago, but started only in December 2016. But better late than never, for sure!
I'm inspired every time I watch or listen to your videos. You're own musical soul shines through on these covers and lessons. And they are excellent lessons. Thanks so much, man.
Pavel Fomenkov! For many years I was searching for the source of a melody I once picked up. I didnt know nothing about it except the main melody. And now.. interested in Brothers in arms ... I know the source. It is Polovtsian Dances! Many, many thanks for that and the rest of your inspiring clip.
Believe it or not, but I've included Polovetsian Dances from the top of my head, and now since you've mentioned it, I think it really have something in common with Brothers In Arms. That's called inspiration and of course thank you for pointing that out and for your amazing comment. Truly amazing!
You are indeed a brother and I’m grateful for not only the instruction but your generous sharing of the music we all love. Your insights are very interesting. Thanks bro🙏
Hi Pavel, Don is my name from Hamilton NZ on my Wife's tablet-SUSAN- I gotta say Many thanks for your clear simple Teaching - Mark's style etc. Great, thanks 😊
Great video! I finally found someone with the same passion for this song. My all time favourite piece of music. It has deep meaning in its melody and lyrics. It still gives me chills and even tears at times, after all these years.
Many thanks for your inspiration Pavel. I have had guitars since I was 15 and now I'm 76. Listening to you play and the method you explain, how and why I should retune my guitar and get playing again. I get so far, then give up for a while. I've been a fan of Mark and Dire Straits since they started in the UK. I hope they play this and Going home at my funeral! I'm going to tune my guitars now. Thank you. Regards, Chris.👍🙂
I really appreciate this. Not only that you value understanding over mere copying. But your humble and optimistic mindset. Not to mention skills honed .... no doubt through hours and years of just loving music
Thanks Pavel your passion runs deep for this song...same as I. Coming from the other side of the globe in California... Music is the Universal Language. Keep playing!
Thank you, Pavel, for addressing this song and playing that tasty lick. I never heard anyone playing it (except Mark). Ilove this song. It gives me the same kind of feeling as Bach or Vivaldi music do. Have a great weekend!
Thank you so much! Exactly my thoughts on classic-ness of this song. Brothers In Arms is in the music history for eternity. What lick do you mean by the way?
Bravo!and mentioning Justin is a great classy touch from you.love your videos...we share same respect for any genre of music .you praise your russian culture,traditional,classical..i am the same with opera...and i ike pop ,rock, folk, flameco .keep on it ...you deserve all the attention...
Hi Pavel! I love how you break this down. I am surprised I have not seen this before but the good news is... I am going to learn it now! Thanks, You are Great!
Thank you for this video, very nice playing. And thank you for also including the Russian song at the beginning, it is indeed one the best songs too... I always find some kind of deep melancholy and a sadness nostalgia joy in Russian (and ex-soviet countries) songs... making them beautiful to listen and feel. It always sound sad, but in a good way so to speak. Just like it could be in Brothers in Arms. Thanks again, cheers from the US & France!
Evgeniy NeutralMusician Hehe! I just can’t “unsee” the optimism in his songs. Even here, the soldier deliver the lines full of hope for humanity, especially in the last verse. No? We’re fools to make war on our brothers in arms...
We are fools and that's good and optimistic? No. Optimism nearly equals stupidity. Or probably even worse. And there is no hope to change the nature of a men, no hope to destroy or get rid of humans ignorance and stupidity, it's infinite. There's so many different worlds. So many different suns. And we have just one world. But we live in different ones.
I love what you do! Thank you so much! I was looking for so far away from me and didn't seem to find it on your channel. Unless I'm overlooking it? I would love for you to do something on that!
@@PavelFomenkov Thanks for the link, I knew it would sound great, the bass part is constant and driving so it doesn't get lost in the relative lack of bass sustain on the nylon string version. Such a great arrangement, I never tire of listening to it (or playing it).
Complimenti Pavel sei molto bravo, io molto meno.Amo molto questo brano e.....non parlo l'inglese !!!!!! Come faccio per avere tutti gli accordi in seguenza ???? Se puoi aiutarmi,te ne sarei grato....Grazie...Ciao.
Hi Pavel, have you planned to do a lesson on "It never rains" in short or long term ? This is one of my favorite Dire Straits song ! Thank you so much for all your work !!
Hey man, I've been following your tutorials for a long time, you never did on the album "Communique", I admire this very much, I would be grateful if you could play some songs of this, congratulations for your work as a musician. I'm from Brazil, Mark has played only once in my country for years, we hope that one day he can come back. I hope you respond, thanks for your attention.
Thanks for your review, it’s just happens that I have no songs from the first three albums, maybe because I’m more into solo Mark’s songs, maybe because songs are too easy or too complex. But of course my plan is to do all of them, so eventually I will do the early stuff too!
I understand, interesting his point of view, in solo career Mark imposes all his creativity and diverse influences, I appreciate him more in the times of "DS", had an incredible presence and energy in the concerts, it made a visceral sound. Success in your career, I stay here enjoying the other videos of the channel and eager for news!
John yamazaki Inspiration is the highest purpose of art. I’ll try my best doing all the National songs, I need to find a way to make it interesting. Thanks!
I missed what the adjustment was to the tuning you recommended. Are all the strings tuned down a half step or a whole step, or is just the 6th string tuned down? Thanks for all you do.
Yes, it was the first one - half-step down all the strings, that way Am becomes Abm, which is the key of the song. A pretty popular guitar tuning by the way! It's called Eb Standard.
Great performance again Pavel. You did an amazing job. Can I ask you a question? I want to buy a new acoustic guitar and master a bit more all of songs by Mark. So your video will be my best inspiration for hours. I like the tone of your advanced jumbo because I think that it fits perfectly mark’s songs. I like the fact that you can have a warm sound. Of course, your playing is more important than the model but I want to know if this guitar is the right one? I can’t try a lot of models so with your experience, can you give me some references which match with the tone I want. Thank you very much for your help. For exemple: in Remembrance Day, i think that the tone is exactly the same than the original. And it’s very interesting . But I don’t think that the original was recorded with an advanced jumbo.. keep it up the good work.
Hi Laurent, people who tried to play on my Advanced Jumbo are usually saying things like it's the best acoustic guitar they've ever heard, and it's really great. Although, this is a very cool guitar for strumming, but I won't call it a good guitar for everything else. If you want to play more fingerstyle, I would look for something like 017 style guitar with 8 shape, but if you just love to strum like I do, then Advanced Jumbo or D-18 would be great! Thanks for your nice words.
thank you, bro! this video is amazing in all perpectives
thank you, 😮😊❤

I'm thinking of getting a fretted nut and tuning down to E flat at 443 for harmonica .
So great guitar cover!
Павлуха молодец !!!!!
Спасибо, Андрюха! xD
Извини за наглость, если можно разбери skid row - in a darkened room или rainbow - Catch the Rainbow было бы супер !
Very nice Brother.
fAB. Look forward to more lesson tIPS.
Thank you
Dan C Holloway's version capo'd at the 4th is the best arrangement I've ever heard.
Can't argue with that! I wonder how it would sound on a classical guitar.
Sounds great, actually: ruclips.net/video/68QdklR1HAE/видео.html

Thank you Pavel. I always enjoy you videos. Especially the MK ones. Have you done or could you do Local Hero?

Hello Pavel, what kind of guitar do you play in this video : I like its sound !
It's Gibson Advanced Jumbo reissue, from 1997.

Классно гитара звучит!👍, Хотелось бы полностью мелодию , а после разбор
Could you give the intro tabs please?
❤
once again, amazing, could you please tell me which guitar you have and which strings you use?

it's On Every Street
Which guitar is this, tone is awesome.

good !
btw which strings do you use on the advanced jumbo ?
Thanks. I use Martin Retro strings, .012 gauge. Martin Eric Clapton’s choice is also very good.

Pavel is it possible that you upload Done with Bonaparte before 30th of May ? i have short holidays and really want to learn it :P
