The best way to describe Byron Dragway's World PowerWheelstanding Championships is the event carries the same logic as Red Bull's FlugTag competition. If you're not familiar, the FlugTag is where contestant after contestant construct improbable flight machines which they fly off of a cliff and crash into the water below.
The World Power Wheelstanding Championships brings together a group of fearless, gravity-defying drivers who risk crashing their machines for a $10,000 pot of gold for the longest sustained wheelie down the iconic Byron Dragway.
There's carnage. There's edge of the seat excitement, and in our case, a true Blair Witch Project-style ending. Check it out, it's pure fringe horsepower entertainment at its finest.

Jeff Wild! When he wasn't in the seat of his Skylark, he was on the starting line encouraging all of the other contestants. Jeff is first rate with the fans and his enthusiasm is infectious.
Greg Broshous in the "High and Wild" Chevy II is hardcore.... The only stick shifted car in competition, Greg is pulling gears wheels up.
Rick Johnson in the X-frame Chevy got the Session 1 damaged fixed to provide more great photos in Session 2. Thanks Rick!

What happened to the green Camaro
In session 2, launched under full throttle then crossed the center wheels up still under power, dropping the front end just before making full contact with the wall.

I thinkbthe idea is to do wheelstands with the cars as they race. You could build a car to do wheelies all the way down purpose built. But than your just building a wheelstander and ed jones would roll in and show everyone how its done.

It’s probably not his first frame and that green camaro has busted the same a few different years whatch previous years that Chevy and the camaro launch the same all the time wen the camaro first stated it was beatiful car but now it looks all hacked up the rear quarters look like he cut them for bigger tires unless he decided to park the original ambrosie is prob the best at this show he hasn’t won in a few years but chinto is awesome also ther used to be a 68 or so barracuda that’s done well also chinto will be hard to beat only ambrosia can have a chance

Pretty much just like Blair Witch. A lot of nothing save for a good moment or two, and a sudden shocking ending that leaves you with more questions than answers.

I agree. I would think it's against contest and insurance policy. All it takes is for one driver to throttle up, throttle gets stuck and he's driving into people.

We only had one angle. The car crashed right in front of place where our videographer was. While we would have loved the shot, our videographers are told to take care of themselves first.

I don't know if that thing's powered by a built 409-based engine or if it's something else. What I do know is that those cars have the wildest tendency to twist like that when you put power to them because of the chassis and suspension.

1987 mercury - yeah well we value our camera person’s life over the shot. We’ve had one photographer critically injured before from a flying race car, not going to have a second. The car hit right in front of where she was and could have easily come over the wall.
