3:20 I love how the white Mustang wobbles for a second at the start, then regains control, only to be hit by the other car, yet he keeps on going and finishes the race just fine. Impressive. The hardest part in drag racing is not the shifting, but the throttle discipline. You can't put too much pressure on the pedal, or you'll spin out. It has to be a slow, gentle, gradual press, otherwise you'll end up like these poor folks. I used to race production-stock cars for my wealthy uncle in his private race car club. Lots of great cars for circuit, oval, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile and endurance drag (5 mile straights).
you know, every time I get the desire to really get on it with my more classic stuff I always watch a few of these and go home to rethink my life. such a loss of invested time and money to wreck

always puts a smile on my face seeing a terrible wreck like at 1:00 and then seeing the driver climb out unharmed (albeit real pissed off) LOL. But hey, race another day. thats the name of the sport!
I have a question. Would it be safer for the walls to be further away from the lanes so there is less kinetic energy on impact, if any impact at all? The worst damage seems to be from the vehicles contacting the rails.
How, in the last thirty years, could *nobody* have figured out that those little, '80s and '90s, short wheelbase Kleenex box Mustangs are squirrely as fuck and make shitty race cars?
Is there a quick shut down on the back of these vehicles? I see the safety crew on a few of them run to the back and touch something, then go get em out, is it an emergency cut off?
7:17 is that the urban hillbilly logo on side of the car looks like it but blurry cant really tell edit: never mind yes it is aftee watching the loading of the car lol
A combination of antiquated technology being pushed to its limits, mechanical failures, shitty drivers, and poorly maintained tracks. But more often than not... driver error.
It's a kill switch that must be easily accessible by track safety and be in the back of car. When an accident happens, the track safety knows to look on the back of car for this kill switch and immediately turns it off to prevent the possibility of an electrical spark causing fuel to ignite. This switch is also suppose to completely kill the entire electrical system, including the ignition to the engine, in case the driver is knocked out and can't kill the engine via kill switch inside, if engine is still running.
They really can crash fast! While I can appreciate the work and money that goes in them and the speed they get I like the rawness of street dragsters and how its possble with some work to have a go yerself.
hey urban hillbilly request from my one daughter think you could do some track rescue response compilation my daughters Bri and Lily like their dad are very interested in vehicles and equipment including emergency responses we'd also like to see how they respond to incidents or crashes and honestly I'd also like to see a compilation of them responding and taking off after a crash perhaps you could also include tractors that recover the crashed cars or trucks as well if you can I'd like to hear your thoughts or opinions on this I think it be neat especially for kids to see how track rescue teams respond
5:44 -- I was pleasantly surprised to see the Mustang *NOT* crash (for once). Seriously... every time I see a video of dragster crashes and a Mustang is one of the cars, I instantly know, with about 99% accuracy, which car is about to crash. Honestly, if you ever want to take a bet on one of these videos -- as to which car will crash -- *ALWAYS bet against* the Mustangs. I've seen a Mustang spin out while the car was sitting still... without the engine running... still sitting on the transport truck, which was stopped at a red-light (they're really, really hard to control... is the point I'm trying to make).
The reason you see Mustangs crash is because there are so many of them drag racing and many of the one's you do see crash are no longer equipped with stock suspension anyway. Driver and setup play a much larger role than the make or model of car.
There was another drag race crash, which was a very old vídeo, but i recall the car was torn in half after launching itself in the air and in front of the other driver, i dont think it was fatal, does anyone recall such crash? Its. Very old vídeo on RUclips but i cant find it

+3DFLYLOW The track actually goes uphill to help the cars slow. Not all tracks are like this, but many are. They also have different distances past the finish line, so they can only hold cars up to certain speeds.
+3DFLYLOW it's called a shut down zone. The tracks are completely flat up until the finish line and then they slope up to help slow down the cars. Most older tracks lack this feature but is becoming more and more prevalent.
Clummzy Dummzy I'm just saying because it would piss me off if the other drag racer didn't control his car and it slammed into mine. Also it would save more lives and or help prevent severe injuries.

Do these cars have kill switches in the back? What're they doing to the back of the car?
Yes. Left rear.

It's amazing some of the cars are in trouble, traction wise during the burnout.

Awesome vid :)
I almost feel bad for clicking the like-button :-)
On a lot of these wrecks, a track personnel guy rushes over to the car, and switches off something at the rear of the car. What are they doing?
They are pit crew kill switches so that way the engine will stop and no more fuel will be put in the motor
Thanks!

Is there a quick shut down on the back of these vehicles? I see the safety crew on a few of them run to the back and touch something, then go get em out, is it an emergency cut off?
Many of them leave on yellow.. Do they get points or time deducted from them?
I'd say the two camaros after 1:50, the red promod and the 4th gen. At the speeds they were going it was incredibly lucky they got back under control.
what is the button or switch that they go to on the back of the car? is it a fuel disengager of sorts?

Nah def not
what causes most of these cars to suddenly go out of control? Is it the skinny front tires, broken suspension? I don't get it
any slight jerk of the tires at all causes you to crash.
A combination of antiquated technology being pushed to its limits, mechanical failures, shitty drivers, and poorly maintained tracks. But more often than not... driver error.
Why dont they put those safety wheels on the sides, So that it goes straight. Or did they already try that out and actually messes up the stability?
Need to move those cement walls out about another 1/4 mile.

6:25 that’s me in the red 😂
helloooo the NON-STOP crashes ENDED at 7:51
Wyat was the guy doing at 3:34 what did he turn off?
Electrical and gas.

What's the switch on the back of the car for that they rush to turn off before anything else
Kill switch. It cuts off power and or the fuel pump to prevent fires
