    Dear Jen, I am happy I picked out the purple baby blanket for baby Ross. You had mentioned in a past video about maybe using some purples in the nursery so I thought the blanket may give you an insight on some colors. I am definetly a gifter, and I didnt expect an invite to your baby shower! LOL. My daughter is now 13 yrs old and I was 41 when she was born, everything we bought for her and the nursery was new, we had so much stuff that none of it even looked used when she out grew it all. We had no one we knew to give all the stuff too so we donated all of it to WIC, this is an organization for low income pregnant mothers and young children that live in your local community. It felt really nice to give these items to mothers and mothers to be that couldnt afford to go buy these baby items and clothing!.

      jannette wood I think it was very nice of you to give the purple blanket. When we watch and get to know a lovely person like Jen it is a natural feeling to want to get something cute for the baby. We haven't had any babies in our family for years . I have seen several cute baby things and have thought about Jen.

      +Maria Perez It is custom in my social network to give a gift to an expecting mother ,someones financial situation has nothing to do with it! Do you not want a gift at Christmas or on your Birthday or do you tell everyone that your capable of buying your own gifts?. Jen has given so much of her time to create these videos for our entertainment, its nice to give something back !.

      @dottieburd 9 лет назад +3

      Kurstan Wharton I agree with you Kurstan. If you click on Maria Perez name it will show you that every post she makes are negative and mean. I think there are some people like that, that only get pleasure from hurting other people. It's sad we have to see her posts at all. Jen deserves love and respect and shouldn't have to deal with that stuff.

    QUESTION FOR YOU AND DON: Are there any fun family traditions that each of your parents did with you as a child that you just loved and cherished that you can't wait to start with your daughter, holidays, matching pj's, surprise hot chocolate bar after school on a cold winter day etc.? I'm just 18 weeks today and I'm already planning lol. May sound silly to think about so soon but I would love some ideas. Thanks!

    The leg cramps are a lack of potassium. Cantaloupe or honeydew melon or really great for that. They are both really high in potassium. Hope this helps. Love watching your videos. I'm 30 1/2 weeks a long. Love being pregnant!!! I'm having my 3rd little boy. 😊

    On cloth diapers, a lot of cities have baby stores with cloth diaper classes. A lot of people find those very helpful when deciding. I also know a lot of people do a mix, cloth during the day disposable at night or disposable while away from home, etc... There are so many great resources out there. If you choose cloth, I'd recommend getting a few kinds because different ones work better for different babies and families.

    Jen after having 3 kids I would recommend to go with disposable diapers. When they are newborns I recommend Huggies because they have a curve for the belly button area so it doesn't bother the baby until it falls off. Then when the baby uses size 2 I switch to pampers brand because they smell so good, like baby power, and they are more absorbent. Then when they turn to size 4 I switch them to a brand from Walmart called parents choice they are good quality and less expensive. Hope this helps.

    My son is now 13 months and we have cloth diapered him from the day he was born. I did not do it for any particular reason, but it has been so easy and very enjoyable. My husband is even able to do everything that cloth diapers involve. We do don't use excessive water and the modern cloth diapers are extremely simple to clean. There's no extra stain removal. (FYI breastfed poop is water soluble and goes right into the wash) Just like with everything else, you just need to find the brand and type of diaper that works best for you. We used prefolds and covers during the newborn phase and we currently use bumgenius. I really can't emphasize how simple cloth diapers are. Plus they are absolutely ADORABLE and don't stink like disposables! Oh - and no diaper rash. Ever. I would LOVE to give you more information if you're interested.

    Question for Both: Do the two of you have similar views on how you want to raise your little girl or are there certain areas or ideas that you feel you will need to compromise on? Also do you think that having a child later on in your relationship is going to be an asset to you as a couple or change how you approach certain things?

  • @tlikia06
    @tlikia06 9 лет назад

    You should check out the modern kind of disposable diapers called the "g-diaper". There is the fabric outside, a plastic material inside that snaps to the fabric and then there is a pad liner that you can compost if there isn't any poop. It makes for a more eco-friendly, money saving and easy to wash that is in between the actual cloth diaper and a regular diaper. A few of the families I've been a nanny to have used them. They come in different sizes and colors as your child grows.

    Cramping / muscle spasms are usually related to a magnesium deficiency, which affects also your potassium and calcium absorption. Hmmm.
    Magnesium can also affect anxiety, depression, headaches and fatigue, among others, but the ones I've just mentioned maybe things you might be experiencing (teary and napping). Interesting thought. I also agree with the walking it out mentioned below, works for me.

  • @healthyeatingalways
    @healthyeatingalways 9 лет назад +1

    I have a few questions however, some may be too early to answer....1) Are you nervous or anxious at all about the delivery process? 2) Have you thought about what classes you definitely want to take before the baby is born? 3) How is Don feeling and adjusting to the idea of becoming a dad for the 1st time? This last one isn't really baby related, but do you have any plans to film on your Sept vacation?

    Everyone is so different. You're craving milk and getting help from dairy and for me, dairy is the worst. It gives me the most awful heartburn and stomach cramps. Eugh! I'm with you on the fish girl. I'm a vegetarian but I find myself craving steak now. I'm excited to hear about her kicking you! :) I'm 25 1/2 weeks now and the kicking is like non stop. You will quickly find out what works best for your family, so don't worry about the advice of others. We cloth diaper and it works for us, but I'm not sure it would've worked with our first-born because of how overwhelming everything is. I'm loving cloth with our second, though! Wanted to recommend a couple of books: Baby Bargains (rates all brands of all items using CSPC reports and customer reviews and gives recommendations for different budgets), Baby 411 (same authors as Baby Bargains but focuses on caring for baby), and Heading Home with Your Newborn. Best of luck to you and Don!

    On the diapering debate: I am not a mother myself but many of my friends are mothers. Of the mothers I know that started out cloth diapering, many of them have switched to disposable diapers just because of the convenience of the disposable diapers. It also depends though on if you are a stay-at-home mommy/work-at-home mommy or if you work outside of the home. It really it just what fits your lifestyle. Also, there is nothing wrong with choosing one option and then changing your mind as you lean more about your baby and your parenting style.
    Question for both: Have you talked about how you will balance sharing the baby excitement with friends and family while also having those special moments just to share between the two of you? My husband and I are trying to conceive and we are quickly learning that, as much as we know our families just want to be supportive and are excited for our family to begin, there are just some things we feel we want to keep as a special moment between the two of us.

    I really like G diapers. They are the easy to use and you don't have so much laundry. You can use disposable/flushable liners or cloth liners. You can just replace the liner in the pants throughout the day or use a new cover at every change. They have lots of different options.

    I experienced very similar leg discomfort when I was pregnant with both of my daughters. When I mentioned this to my doctor, she stated I was likely lacking in potassium. Although I generally dislike bananas, eating one slightly prior to bedtime really helped reduce the occurrence of them, nearly immediately!

    Cloth diapers can be such a hot topic, I used disposable diapers for one child and cloth for the other. I would have to say that both have pros and cons, but both ways worked well for me. I did love cloth diapers and that is probably the key to whether it works. If you love it, it works. If not, disposables are great too. There are a ton of options for baby.

    I'm not a mother yet but I've got quite a few friends who are cloth diapering, it's definitely worth reading up on even just because it's interesting! You can avoid stain remover if you hang the diapers in the sun! The sun is amazing haha. I think people get a bit too riled up about it though. You have to do what is comfortable for you guys! There are more eco friendly disposable diaper options these days anyway :) But I do know my friends have found cloth diapering rewarding :)
    Also, I love the potential theme for the nursery! Fairy tale hints sounds so great.

    I have a couple Q's for next week's Q&A (or whenever) . . . I am wondering how the grandparents are feeling about their upcoming new grandgirl! How many grandbabies do each set of grandparents have? (Which would answer the question about how many cousins your girl will have! But how many boy cousins are there so far ...? Any???) What about the great grandparents? What number will it be for the grands? (PS -- slightly off topic, but . . . I have such admiration for the way your two families mix together as one great big family. My side was never able to mix with his side and it has made for many years of stressful holidays and celebrations for us. Your family is inspiring in so many ways!) Thanks for sharing with us!

    Our first (and only so far) grandchild was born with a head full of dark hair and beautiful long lashes. My daughter-in-love dressed him in blue and very boyish blue clothes. She was ready to scream that people still asked her what her "daughter's" name was! So even if you do dress Baby Girl in pink, still be prepared for people to be clueless. lol Also, I was going to go the cloth diaper route. First time I went to change my son's diaper, that was it! It was like he was sitting in a sauna! So just my .02 cents. Loved this video!

    I laughed at your story about the gender specific colors. When my daughter was about 18 months (shes 28 years old now, so a while ago) I had her dressed in a frilly dress that was blue. She didn't have much hair and a very nice couple were behind us in line. The man (of course it was a man) said what a cute little boy. His wife smacked him on the arm and said "it's a girls, can't you see the dress and hair bow"!!! LOL My daughter didn't have significant hair until she was about 2 1/2 so it was a fun time letting people know she was a girl.
    I love your pregnancy videos (said daughter is now trying to get pregnant herself) and how much you are enjoying your pregnancy!!

    Jen, I laughed so hard at your comment about gender identification of your child by strangers. When my first son was born, I was in the grocery store and a lady came up to me and just went on and on about how cute my baby girl was. I had him dressed all in blue, and she was talking so fast that I couldn't even correct her that he was a boy and not a girl. Definitely leaves you with memories that you never forget. Also, yes that feeling is your uterus stretching. The more children you have, the sooner you will feel the stretch. With my 3rd child I felt the stretching within the first month of pregnancy. It is actually what prompted me to buy a pregnancy test. It seemed more painful (to me at least) the 3rd time also. It felt uncomfortible to sit down. I am also guessing that those gas bubbles you are feeling, are baby girl moving around. I am predicting you will really feel her within the next two weeks. Because my story is similar to yours, and I actually announced my first pregnancy (after years of TTC) in much the same way you did. Except that it was 5:30 am when I took the test. I had missed 2 periods, because I was honestly afraid to take the test. Fear of a negative test, kept me from taking it. After so many negatives, you hate to jinx a possible positive, if that makes sense. The two lines were evident immediately, but all of a sudden I couldn't remember whether it was ine or two lines I was looking for. LOL!! I ran into the bedroom and I guess I was jumping on the bed. I awoke my husband shoving the instruction papers and the pee stick in his face. He was groggy, and excited, and we just sort of sat in awe reading the test instructions to make sure the test was correct. So my question for Don is this: What were his first thoughts when you brought him the news that you were pregnant? In a blink of an eye, did his role in life seem different to him? Also, I am curious as to what kind of Dad he sees himself as being to a girl. Will he be the protective type dad? Her rescuer and protector, or a free-spirited type that is more excited to see her challenged and work through her own difficulties in life? We have all boys, so no girls here, but I asked my husband the same question when I was pregnant, but with boys (of course). His answer was a combination of both. I think he's done a great job so far. So I thought it would be fun to ask Don that question also, and if he's thought that far ahead yet. The most precious photo that I have of my husband is one I took from my hospital bed, right after giving birth, of him holding our first son for the first time. He just stared at him, so lovingingly, and you can see a bit of fear in his face as well. It is m6 favorite photo of all time. It really conveys what fatherhood is about so vividly. So happy and excited for you both!!

    Hi Jen! I also think oatmeal is a great color for the nursery walls... I'm thinking of the Aveeno brand bottle color which is very nice and neutral...also you can add pops of pastel pinks, purples, yellows and greens to give the room some gentle flair. :-) Thanks for sharing and God bless!

    For next week:
    Don, how do you continue to be so supportive during this pregnancy? What advice do you have for men as to staying supportive? Although we aren't expecting, I feel as though my boyfriend has a hard time sympathizing with womanly pains, discomforts and emotions during that time.

    team blue!! Also my favourite colour. (Also...side note, i really do not like pink anyway!) I was very intent on not dressing my baby in too much gender specific clothing, but yes, it's pretty hard to find other colours! So....i have a boy, and lucky I love blue so much. But I make sure he wears lots of other bright colours. Last week he was in a hand-knitted red sweater, and the lady at the post office said "SHE looks very cozy" I just smiled and nodded. I think people should make more effort to use "baby" instead of he or she if they don't know them! :) Enjoy your baby clothes shopping. And always buy the next size up, the baby tends to get more wear out of them.

    I got wickedly bad charley horses in my second trimester as well. Calcium definitely helps, as does drinking a ton of water. Your water intake is obviously impressive so try a glass of milk before bed! I couldn't stomach the idea of milk late at night, so my OB and GP both told me to chew Tums or Gaviscon right before bed, and the charley horses have pretty much stopped (I've only had one during my third trimester) since they provide a bit of extra calcium.

    Jen, I'm one of not many that did not and does not like baby gap all that much. The clothes are too wide and the sleeves are too short. I love H&M baby/toddler clothes and also Hannah Anderson both use lots or organic cotton.
    Lol I tried cloth diapers and hated it, so so so much laundry and my son could not stand being wet, I had to stop the car numerous times to change him!!! So I settled in the middle and used and still use Honest company diapers or Seventh Generation.

    Hi Jen! You should get used to the broken memory and to crying because it never fully goes away, I still get watery eyes all the time and can't remember anything and my boys are already 3 and 4 years old... ;)
    About the cloth diapers... Personally I didn't have a good experience with them because even with just pee they stink... the room stinks... the whole house stinks... So I gave them away. But if you do want to try them, I recommend the Gro-Via diapers, I did a large research before buying and I think those were the best in terms of functionality as you can change only the inserts and not the whole thing (if it's not that messy ;)).

    Hey Jen! If you see something that you like for baby, just get it. We got lots of clothes but they weren't our style so we ended up just purchasing what we liked anyway. Also, we cloth diaper at home & use disposables in public. Just enjoy the journey!
