When this young man was alive in the 90's the legendary status of Death was already assured. In a time where we had no internet, the lack of footage and recordings of quality from Chuck and company gave an obscurity to the band, and with those records in hand everybody wanted to see the and listen how this music was performed. After his tragic passing, this gig and tour were the only chances to have a visual and good audio quality performance of his mastery. Sadly we have way less from previous incanations.

A godlike performance. You don't go to Death simply to enjoy, but to contemplate. It would have been nice to see it in person, I would have done the impossible

I had a VHS tape with a compilation of bands who played at Dynamo that year, and it had this version of Spirit Crusher. That was the part I've watched thousands of times. This sound was so fresh, so innovative to me, never heard something so progressive but so raw and aggressive at the same time. Even today I feel that most bands I listen have this sound somewhere in their DNA. And this snare sound is absolutely incredible for 1998.

His performance in the band is surreal. I won't even talk about chuck! Nowadays finding a good drummer is super difficult. I wonder how they played all that back then. Thank you for your comment!!! Big hugs.

2023 and still ass kicking! For sure one of the best band ever! Chuck was one of the people who can't be from this word! This music will be there thousand years
We used to have a thing called " Metal Offs " with my friends on drunken nights and the Game was you had to pick 3 metal songs that would " out Metal " your opponent, first rule of " Metal Off " was " No Death ". Why ? Cause it was a too easy win , anyone who put on say Human or Symbolic would instantly win , no one could out Metal Chuck , so they got Banned. Amazing performance from a beyond legendary band.
Saw Chuck during the Spiritual Healing tour in 1990. Wish we had Go Fund Me back when he was sick. It’s baffling that his healthcare wasn’t covered before he passed.

If I remembered corectly Chuck planned Symbolic as Death's last album, but label had a contract for another album, so Chuck did The Sound Of Perseverance (a lot of stuff on record were from his another band 'Control Denied'). So yeah, we probably wouldn't got more Death albums, but instead we could have a lot of new Control Denied albums or something completely different from Chuck, because he was a big fan of classic heavy metal like Dio, Judas Prest, Motorhead, etc, so we could even get a heavy metal album from almighty Chuck, but unfortunately we never will. 😢

My favorite band of all time My favorite album of all time since 1995 (Symbolic) Flawless Discography Not a single bad track in their entire discography Chuck is sorely missed, I always wonder what he would be doing nowadays
Was literally the template for an entire genre doing this 40 years ago, they were an incredible live band having been fortunate to see this in a smaller venue in Chicago no less powerful though
watching this has put a big smile on my face. to know that i was born on the same month this took place in 1998 makes it more special for me Death, one of a kind Chuck, forever unequaled!
Phenomenal set! So happy I got to see them live as a kid. Imo there has never been a better vocalist or technical guitar wizard in Death Metal. Chuck was the gd Bruce Lee of Metal and I challenge anyone to convince me otherwise. 😉
This was the best lineup that Death's ever had, which resulted in _The Sound of Perseverance_ , just the best release from the band! I wish people see this album through my eyes: pure masterpiece!
@@edmcbain71 Christy's performance on SoP was better than Gene's two Death albums, but overall, no, Gene is the better drummer. Being a better drummer doesn't necessarily deliver a better performance on an album---in a more extreme example, Lars is one of the worst professional drummers in metal, but he has created some iconic album drumming performances.
much love Schuldiner despite me been much more of an Doom Metal music maker, you will always be example of hardcore good Death Metal for me and someone i wish he lived his whole full human life same type of feeling i get with the ones such Cliff Burton etc

Thanks for posting this! The Death discography can go toe-to-toe with any band. 7 GREAT albums that somehow kept getting better. I would easily put them in my top 5 most important metal bands along with Sabbath, Priest, Slayer, and Metallica. But when I think about it, none of those bands had a 7 album run as good as Death.

Big hugs.

Are you saying they Christy is a better drummer than Gene Hoglan?
@@edmcbain71 Christy's performance on SoP was better than Gene's two Death albums, but overall, no, Gene is the better drummer.
Being a better drummer doesn't necessarily deliver a better performance on an album---in a more extreme example, Lars is one of the worst professional drummers in metal, but he has created some iconic album drumming performances.
I think the Symbolic line up was better
Give me the Human line up all day !

I would easily put them in my top 5 most important metal bands along with Sabbath, Priest, Slayer, and Metallica. But when I think about it, none of those bands had a 7 album run as good as Death.
